Dell :: M4400 Ram Specs?
Nov 25, 2009
I need to know the specs of the RAM in my M4400 and was hoping someone here could help me out?
I know it has 4GB Ram, but how many actual Ram slots does it have and what speeds/specs Ram can be put in it? Basically,
i want to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB to give my VM's better performance without slowing down my base OS (Windows 7 Ultimate x64). I don't know which Ram to choose on newegg.

So before my initial thread got derailed, a couple of people wanted to know my final config for the system I ordered.
Studio XPS 1640
Intel Core 2 Duo T9800(2.93GHz/1066Mhz FSB/6M L2 Cache)
4GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz 2 Dimm
16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p FullHD RGBLED LCD W/2.0 MP
ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3670 - 512MB
500GB 7200RPM Free Fall Sensor Seagate Hard Drive
BluRay Combo Drive
Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11 AGN Half Mini Card w/ My WiFi

I will be recieveing my new m1330 this weekend (a replacement for my busted m1210) and have a couple questions.
1) are alot of people waiting on the system to get to them or are people just not buying them? I dont see many user reviews on the m1330; defenitely not as many as when the m1210 came out.
2) Is the 8400 GS > 7400 GO?

back in 2005 I bought an Inspirion 6000-D. A few days ago a cat spilled coke in it while I was out of the house. It was destroyed. Thankfully, I had the Dell accidental damage warranty (which I'd forgotten all about.) Here's the specs on what they're sending as a replacement.

I'm very happy with the LCD on my new Z555 and thought I would share the details after profiling the display. I was looking for this information myself and couldn't find much so here is what I've figured out:
The temperature of the display on it's own is about 6300K but deficient in green (too magenta). The color is consistent with either graphics adapter.
I have no way to measure the color gamut but it does appear to be at least as wide as my Electron Blue CRT and with more color contrast. As I found in another thread Sony is calling it the full range of the NTSC which is slightly larger than adobe RGB, though it's never stated clearly.
Since neither adapter's driver allows setting the brightness independent of the color I could only set the white point using the drivers and had to rely on the rather coarse range of the FN keys brightness with contrast at default. I tried to get more contrast out of the display by playing with the driver contrast adjustments but in the end it just complicated the color adjustments for no apparent gain.
The best black point I could get was .24 cd/m and the highest white point was almost 325 cd/m -- both excellent values for a laptop.
In the end the 6500K profiles I settled on had a black point of .37 cd/m and a usable brightness of 197 cd/m. This is over 500:1 contrast ratio (if I'm figuring this right) and is excellent for a laptop.
With a profile associated with each adapter (intel & nividia) Vista seems to correctly load the proper profile if the speed/stamina switch is changed though I need to verify that this is actually working. I'm sure Vista loads the correct profile from power on.
The display is sharp and crisp with a beautifully matte finish. There is some banding in large gradients, as I feared, but I'm sure it's typical for all 6 bit displays.
Loading the profiling software was no fun as there appears to be something wrong with the installshield Vista installation from sony but eventually I got it working. Next step is a clean install on a new disk but I think I'm going back to XP for that.

I want to buy a VGN-SZ433N/B (cheap with fault), but before I do I would like to get some info.
it has the following:
Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400
1gb ram
100gb HDD
13 in.
I think it has hybrid graphics, is that right?
I think the 7400 GPU is faulty, is it possible to still use the notebook with the integrated GPU (is this a BIOS option)?
what specs the AC adapter has, since I will need to buy a new one.

I was looking at the HP DV4T with specs:
-Moonlight white
-Vista 64bit
-P8600 2.4Ghz or I can up it to the P8700 2.53Ghz
-4 GB Ram
-320 GB Hard Drive 5400 RPM
-512MB Nvidia GeForce G 105M
-14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800) LED for better battery life.
-Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
-High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
I was wondering what you all think about this set up, or if I should tweak anything with like the processor.
Also how does this laptop run in your experience. Hot or loud? What does it score on performance index with these specs if anyone has them? Are there any concerns I should know about or tips. Like does the optical drive pull out if not using to save weight or add another hard drive? Maybe even steer me to another direction if you would like.
Also I have never owned a laptop before, but my friends use an external monitor when home. What do you all think about getting one?
This laptop will be for everything, school, entertainment, causal games.

My last computer was the HP DV5Z, which I LOVED. It was the perfect size, did everything i needed it for, and was an overall great choice.
Unfortunately, 1) My laptop was stolen when my apartment was broken into , and 2) they no longer sell the dv5z on hp.com
Now, I am for sure going to order my laptop from hp.com, so I need to know what you guys would recommend.
I will use my laptop for gaming, research, college, and DVD burning.
I am almost positive I want the slightly bigger dv6z, and thats my main choice.
However, I'm not sure how big of a difference performance in CPU is, if 4 gigs of ram is REALLY worth it over 3gigs of ram, whats the benefit of the wireless-N card over G, and how come all the coupons are used up

a laptop I returned to costco since it couldnt run some games. I went to Costco.com to see about building a laptop from HP through Costco. I went with these specs, its already almost $200 over budget and my wife might veto it haha but let me know if you think this could run fallout 3 at least on decent settings.
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz)
3GB DDR2 Memory
250GB HDD (good enough size, I rely on a server in my house for main storage)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GE
That comes out to $744.99 and it doesnt appear to have tax, which will help. I'd like to run simple games like Halo 2 PC, Fallout 3 and maybe even Gears of War if I felt frisky. I'm not looking to run anything like Crysis. Thats the only GPU I can choose other than the onboard. I upgraded the Processor from the T6600 for $51.00, would it make $50 worth of a difference?

I bought a toshiba, dual core pentium T3400, 2.16ghz, 3gb ram, 250gb HD...and it was lightning fast when surfing the web...but returned it because i got a killer deal on an HP DV5, core 2 duo, T5800, 2.0 ghz, 4gb ram, 250gb HD...
I was told by the salesperson, and a friend, that the new hp should be slightly faster than the exchanged toshiba. However, i noticed that the toshibsa was significantley faster than this one. I visited the same websites, and where the toshiba took 1 second to load a certain page, the new hp takes 3 seconds. Is this because of the 2.0 vs 2.16 ghz difference? bloatware?

I have a Compaq CQ61-220SA Laptop with a 1.8 GHz Intel Celeron DualCore Mobile Processor T3000 cpu and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD Graphics on which I have Win 7 32 bit.
I've bought a copy of Red Alert 3 which states that it needs an Intel P4 2.6GHz cpu for Vista and 256MB Graphics with a NVidia Geforce G800 or greater chipset or an ATI Radeon X800 or greater chipset.
The shop has said as long as I don't break the seal on the game I can return it if it's not compatible with my laptop and so I need some advice please as to whether the specs I've got are sufficient to run this game?
if this laptop will run this game?

I am an owner of the old Z series(690) and have loved it ever since day 1. I think my only gripe was the gpu felt at times a bit weak for me, but that was to be expected. In general, it handled nearly all my tasks fine.
I am going to now be purchasing the new Z1190 CTO series. Right now, my specs are set to i7-620m, Win7 Professional, Silver, 4GB RAM, 192GB SSD. Is there any options you guys think I should change, such as an increase in RAM, or a decrease in something else, etc.
The only reason I have not purchased the laptop yet is because of 2 things, firstly is the 1600x900 resolution. I love the resolution, and while, sometimes, I find some things a bit small, overall everything is readable and fits well. When I heard they were having 1920x1080, that definitely got me excited. While I do not want to opt for the signature series Z, I am sure 1920x1080 will eventually come after a refresh.
Do you think it is worth waiting for the high resolution?
Is it worth it..or do you prefer the 1600x900?
Are there any major pros or cons to switching 1080p or is there not a large difference.
Lastly, the nvidia 330m, I do not know too much about. Most of the things I do on the computer, are not very graphic intensive, (light photoshopping, programming, etc) but will the Z with the specs I listed be able to run some games at decent settings with not everything turned down like the 9300?

First take the battery out and remove the bottom part like so.
Then you have to take the fan off there are 3 screws to take out and unplug the fan connector.
After you take out the CPU heat sink "there is 4 screws".
Then the Video card heat sink 3 screws.
Once that is done I took the CPU out you don't have to take it out I just wanted to see it. You do have to take out all the extra thermal past from DELL from the CPU and GPU and the 2 heat sink like so.
I use a plastic card and paper towel to remove the extra paste and it workes grate.
Now for the AS5 put on each of the components you just clean as in the CPU and GPU and the 2 heat sink like so.
same go's for the CPU and GPU then jsut use a falt plastic card I just use a master card but any thing similer will do to even out the SA5 like don't try to get it all nice and flat just make sure it covers all the surface of contact of the CPU GPU and heatsink and you should be good, it soule look like that now.
Now just re insert the GPU heat sink and tight the 3 screws back.
After it's the CPU heatsink and it's 4 screws like so.
Now the fan 3 screws and one connoctor.
Close it all up and boot Hope it helps some of you.
Mine was 55 and idle and now 49/50.

Considering that this is a "heavy duty" notebook, how much would a 25W processor (e.g., P9600) increase battery life and decrease heat? In my experience, the difference has been very little for relatively similar notebooks.

I'm currently trying to decide between the M4400 and the HP 8530W. Please could any M4400 owners let me know their thoughts (happy or otherwise)?
The basic specs are as follows:
Dell: P8600 CPU, 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, Quadro 770M, 1920x1200 display, 6-cell battery.
HP: T9400 CPU, 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HDD, Quadro 770M, 1680x1050, 8-cell battery.
They're about the same price where I live, and both have a similar lead time. I've had no major problems with Dell in the past, but the M4400 seems to have been slated here and elsewhere for its build quality and design issues. The HP is by no means immune, but it does seem to come off lighter .....
