I had a good reason a few weeks ago to take out the option to control the wifi card for the switch on the side that turns on/off the bluetooth and wifi.
Now that I want to have it back, I don't know where to go in the settings
I got a 370 bluetooth card and for the life of me I can't figure out how to install it in my Studio 15 even after reading the directions on Dell's website. First of all did they send me the right card it measures something like 1/2" by 1 3/8"?
After taking the back cover off of the laptop there is a pretty big slot marked WPAN with a blue cable ran to that spot held down by a black piece of vinyl. The 370 I got doesn't seem to fit the plug-in connection unless I'm missing something. Also I don't see what would hold the card down because it isn't long enough to reach what looks like 2 screw down posts at the top of the slot.
I've never installed a mini-card before or even seen what they should look like, can anyone verify I have the right card or whether I'm just not smart enough to figure out to install it, I won't be offended if the latter?
Looks like atheros is highly recommended but I'm not sure if I have to be concerned about compatibility (meaning if drivers will be an issue)

When I put the card in the reader, W7 tells me to format the card. This I do not want to do, of course. If I open Disk Management, it takes ages to open, and eventually shows the card as "Unallocated".
I'm having trouble with my wifi connection on my SXPS 16 with the Intel Wifi 5300 card.
I will be downloading something then at random times it looses connectivity and i will have to turn off my wifi and turn it back on then it works for a couple minutes and stops working once again.
My Dell 1505 wireless N card is a constant headache, If I hide my ssid the card detects and connects to my router but I can never access the internet. It may work sometimes but most of the time my SSID has to be on.
I have tested this with two different routers and the results were the same, vista shows local access only

i just got my M4400 and from a first contact, i am very happy with it. i have a question about the WiFi Catcher.
it seems it does not recognize the wifi card (5300) although i am able to connect to the internet over wireless. when i press the button, a window that says radio is off appears.
Also in Dell Control Point it seems like there is no wifi connection in the DCP connection manager and all wifi related options are disabled. i can only see and use the dial up and ethernet connection in this software.
I installed the latest dell connnection manager, but the wifi-catcher switch is still not functional. Has dell abandoned this feature or am i missing something?

Problem:
Every time I boot up the computer and switch on the WiFi/Bluetooth button on the right side - only the Bluetooth light turns on above the keyboard.
Temporary Solution:
I go to Device Manager and find that the "Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN" slot has the exclamation sign next to it so I disable the card and then reenable it again, then the problem is gone (the WiFi light turns on and I can now finally see wireless networks in the "Connect" window) .....
I have a dell xps 15z, 8gb ram and I can't turn it off. The Power button is constantly flashing. However when I try to turn it off by holding in the Power button it would not react in any way. There is nothing on the display, the only thing that is running is the cpu or fan. The only way to turn the laptop off is to remove its cover and unplug the battery. However when I plug the battery back in it starts up again with no display and power button flashing consistently white.

I was listening music on my headphone and when I put it off the headphone jack, I didn't hear any sound. I realised there is a problem with the jack, a bad contact electronic contact.
Since then, the jack is more and more "moving". I always lose the sound and get it back and it's really disturbing.

So, I have just ordered the M1330, and it comes with the 1505. When I asked the dell rep about the 5300, he said it was not compatible with the M1330 due to the motherboard or something?

Over in the Wireless section I was told that my constant connection drops in Windows 7 are likely just due to the card (Intel 5100) and to replace it with something that isn't Intel. My question is, what is the best card out there to replace my current one that will support a Belkin N router AND fit in my computer? I was wondering what wifi card is in the MBP. I am speaking of the newest MBPs which have the Nvidia cards and the Intel CPU (late '08 and current '09 versions).
Also, do you think it is worth it to install a Linux OS on it? I think a dual boot of Mac OS and Linux would be interesting. But, does Linux work on it?

I have ordered E6400 but I have choosen Intel 5100 wifi card with two antenna port. I heard that this model isn't very good so I'm thinking about the upgrade to Intel 5300 with 3 antenna ports. I have a question about the antenna cables. How many cables are there near the wifi card in latitude with 5100? two or three? If there are only 2 cables, so the upgrade brings me no advantage.

Also, what is the best kind of RAM it will accept? I was thinking two 1GB sticks of pc2-5300, but I don't know if it'll accept that much? Yes, the wireless switch is on … but the “on” light does not go on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel PROSet Wireless Utility, and installed the newest update on the Sony drivers site.

View 5 Replies View RelatedTrying to upgrade my wifi card. The machine originally came with Centrino 2200 card. I wanted to upgrade to Centrino 6205. I thought that all I had to do was ensure that I get a card that has a known/authorized FRU, as per the X230 FRU List. So I picked a card with FRU 60Y3253, but upon installing it, I get the all familiar "1802: Unauthorized Network Card" error. Why? What else am I missing?

I have no restrictions "white list" because I use an unofficial bios. I'd like to know if the antenna is compatible with the 5Ghz. If not, is it be possible to change it with another model?
