Feb 11, 2009I know that the modded INFs from laptopvideo2go have supported this, but the latest beta drivers released today from nVidia actually support the 9400M out of the box.
These drivers support the screen brightness controls (I had probs with this using the modded drivers) AND more importantly I can now use an external monitor and resume from sleep mode. The Apple drivers would not resume after the video card turned the external monitor off.

First: I would like to update my Nvidea Geforce 9500M GS driver, i went to the site, downloa section. I found quite a list of files, but i don't know wich file i should download.
Secondly i'd like to know if it's possible to link the gemstone control to windows media player. Atm it opens Windows media center, but i think it's not very good to listen to music while gaming.

Notebookcheck.com claim that the card fitted to the Studio XPS 13 is the 9500M G, but the G is not a Hybrid SLI card (i.e. two GPU's):

Jun 16, 2009I tried playing a dvd for the first time (in PowerDVD and Media Player). It's extremely blocky and generally looks like crap. When using it in Hybrid SLI though, the video looks fine. The integrated card should be more than capable of upconverting a DVD so that it doesn't look so horrible. Notice the lip of the counter and see how much blockier it looks in the first picture than the second.

Nov 7, 2009I posted here a few months ago about a SLI problem in Vista that was resolved. I have recently installed Windows 7 and have been having more SLI problems. I've installed many different Nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go, from Dell, and from the Nvidia website.
My problem is that I have a huge performance increase under Power Save rather than Performance Mode.
What I believe is causing this is that when I am running in Performance Mode, it only runs off the 9200 which is slower than the 9400. It doesn't actually use both cards together.
I've noticed significant FPS drop and rendering issues while in Performance Mode while playing Call of Duty 5 and more recently, Dragon Age. However, when I go into Power Save, I get a significant boost in FPS and virtually no rendering issues .....

I would like to overclock my GeForce 9400M G video card just a lil to give me a better gaming edge.. For that I would need ur help I dont know what software to use and which one works best (had more options) or if I need to download custom drivers for that software..

Jul 26, 2009I am planning on getting the mbp with hybrid graphics. I wish to triple boot osx, ubuntu 9.04 64 bit, and vista business 32 bit( or maybe 64bit)
I read that the 9400m is unusable in windows, and the 9600m gt is the only option. I was wondering if I could use just the 9400m in 9.04 to get better battery life, as I do not need powerful graphics in ubuntu.

Oct 7, 2009i know theres a clear difference, but does the 9400 clearly blow the x3100 out the water? also; i heard the white macbook was being discontinued. why do the new whitebooks not have a 2.4 processor. How much difference is 2.0/2.1ghz vs a 2.4? Why isn't there a 2.4 + 9400m option? is it a heating issue?

Sep 27, 2009I've had my laptop since June and have not been impressed with the graphics performance of the Hybrid SLI setup.
I installed nHancer for the first time and started tinkering around with stuff and noticed that some of the games I was disappointed in weren't utilizing both GPUs by enabling the SLI Load Balancing Graph (Vsync has to be disabled for this to work).
Upon further tinkering I noticed that for both GPUs to be used, the game profiles had to be modified with "Hybrid SLI mode" set to "1". Thought I'd share this information so everyone can try and get the most out of their computer.

Aug 19, 2009Is there a way of disabling the 9600m gt and using only the 9400m? I mean i want to use the 9400m in windows bootcamp. I know in windows laptops with 2gpu's, users can disable one gpu through the bios. But is that possible on the mac?

Dec 2, 2009the 17 macbook pro would have poor batterylife due to drivers and the forced use of the dedicated gpu. now I got an idea: how about the 15 with intergrated graphics? I've heard that the 15 on dedicated graphics can hit 3-4hours(in windows) which isn't quite enough but VERY close.

Dec 28, 2008I managed to snag a minor graphics card upgrade for my laptop and installed it. I changed up my 9500m to a 9600m gt. Everything seems to be going great, just needed an HDTV to get it going For some reason it would only initially post video through the HDMI.
Anyway, my issue is, while the machine runs great in windows I can't for the life of me get it to display anything before that. Which includes the BIOS boot screen, the BIOS itself, the Boot Menu or even my Windows XP disc.
Like I said, games run great, windows runs great.

Nov 20, 2008here's the results of my 3DMark06 benchmarking.
All tests were run on a vanilla installation of Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1 with only RMClock and 3DMark06 installed on the system, and HWMonitor included to keep an eye on temperatures.
All tests run at 1366x768 (native res) with default options.
Only drivers with WHQL certificates for this series were included; which means two that supposedly had them, 174.74 and 174.93, aren't shown.
SUMMARY
- The 174 series of drivers is officially obsolete - they clearly benchmark lower than the newer 175 or 176 drivers. Upgrade if you want to.
- 175.61 continues to be an anomaly, with higher-than-average HDR/SM3.0 scores, both in my previous benchmarking before this comparison, and during it.
- The 176 series is probably your best bet overall.
- Temperatures never really were an issue - 73 Celsius was the highest I saw.
Here's the chart - focus on the GPU score instead of the overall 3DMark to remove the variance provided by skewy CPU tests.
Acer :: Overclocking GeForce 9500M GS On Aspire 7720G
Jan 18, 2010Over-clocking with RivaTuner. Right now I'm at 500Mhz for core, 1Ghz for shader and 425MHz for RAM.
On idle graphics card is at about 63C and processor at 33C with fan off.
To put some load on system, I used Intel BurnIn standard test and two instances of 64bit version of fluidsGL.exe from nVidia's Cuda SDK (acording to GPU-Z, the load on graphics card is about 93%). Mandelbrot.exe does put some more load on graphics card, but it closes as soon s application looses focus, so it isn't as convenient.
When I run tests, temperatures are around 85C for graphics card and 65C for processor.
I wanted to ask you how much should I overclock the graphics card and what are safe temperatures? I plan to use this laptop for few more years, so I do not wan to cook my graphics card.
Acer :: 9500M GS Aspire 8920/6920 Games Minimizing On Start
Nov 11, 2008I have a curious issue that has begun to pop up, I believe after I installed a few drivers from laptopvideo2go. Long story short I tried to reset back to the old Acer drivers and I spent a few hours trying to get my video to turn back on.
But here's the actual problem - some games will randomly minimize on startup and then not allow me to switch to them.
I first noticed this with Frets on Fire, where I would boot it up, it would look like it would work and then stay minimized for a while. Click on it in the taskbar and it would either pretend to go to the game or just sit there, moving my mouse to the top left corner. Alt-Tab, similar, sometimes works sometimes doesn't. If I do Switch To in task manager, it works a bit more often but sometimes takes a few times.
I've now noticed this with COD4, Fallout 3, and Trackmania Nations. Fallout 3 causes the game to crash. I've tried stopping as many open programs/processes as possible and it sometimes fixes it, sometimes doesn't.
If it isn't clear, I have an Acer Aspire 8920G with a 9500M GS. I'm currently using the relatively stock 7.15.1(1.7561) drivers.

Dec 29, 2008I recently got a Dell Precision M4300 from a friend and had a few questions.
When i got the laptop, I reformatted the Laptop and Reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2. I proceeded from Microsoft to Update to SP3 and so on.
Well I also Went to Dell's Website and downloaded all the necessary drivers (using the service tag) for this laptop and installed them.
Now here is where I ran into a problem,
When I installed the NVIDIA drivers for the NVidia Quadro FX 360M video card, everything seemed to go fine. Then I rebooted the Laptop, and now every time I reboot, my hardware acceleration is defaulted back to None, and it gives me multiple pop ups about this issue. I go into the settings and turn the Acceleration back to full and it goes away.
This is a major problem, and is really frustrating to deal with everytime the laptop is booted up.
My other problem, is when I open up Internet Explorer, It tends to lock up the browser for no reason when Loading a website. I then CTRL+ALT+DEL and attempt to close iexplore.exe via the task manager. It closes the browser but does not shut down the browser, making it impossible to browse, so then I have to reboot.

Apr 27, 2008So at the moment the most powerful single card is the 8800gtx 512mb correct? It has been out for quite sometime now. I know that some 9 series cards have been released for laptops but have no where near the power of the 8800.
What current 9 series desktop card would have to be released for laptops to out power the 8800? Also when do you think the new card would be released.? I know its all kinda speculation at this point but just curious what people think as I may wanna buy a new laptop in a few months.

This time it lasted about 8 months and coincidentally, it was a few days after i reformatted the computer.
Are there any other video cards that I could use in the computer without having to do any modifications?
Does anyone know of a place to buy a NVIDIA 7900GS or or equivalent card at a respectable price?

Dec 6, 2008I recently bought a laptop and before it ships I have been looking around at how the 8400m GS performs. The video card is labeled at 128 mb but many people have been posting on forums about how they're cards are telling them they have 256mb instead of 128.
More commonly, Youtube videos are all titled 8400m GS *256*. Is the 128mb version just really uncommon? Or is it really 256 mb. I also stumbled upon something called Turbo Cache (not sure if that's the right name for it) that has the GPU use some of my systems RAM...Isn't that what integrated chipsets do?
Anyway here's my system:
