Apr 2, 2009Anyone know what happened to this option? I remember speccing out a system a few months back and it was possible to upgrade the x3100 to geforce 8400, but its no longer there.

View 5 RepliesI am getting a bit bored waiting for the new SXPS 16 (and the free Windows 7 upgrade), thought I would start a new discussion.
How do you guys think about the Nvidia GeForce 9700M, 9800M, 160M or 260M in a Dell Studio XPS laptop?
I like the fact that Nvidia is constantly updating their drivers and I also like the Hybrid Power and Hybrid SLI features. Most importantly, with an Nvidia GPU, I can turn the SXPS into a hackintosh, making it the PERFECT laptop in the market.
I need help in overclocking my studio xps 1340!
I would like to overclock my GeForce 9400M G video card just a lil to give me a better gaming edge.. For that I would need ur help I dont know what software to use and which one works best (had more options) or if I need to download custom drivers for that software..
I also wouldnt mind over clocking my processor 2.4 Ghz p8600 intel core 2 duo...
I got all the drivers for XP off one of the the dell forum boards, and this is where my problem begins.
If I use all Dell drivers, I can install all the hardware, but I'll get a message about the 9200M GS not starting up.
Just over a week ago there there was an option for WXGA+ display (1440x900) WLED. I was on the verge of buying but I held out for a coupon which I got next day. Problem was the next day the WXGA+ was no longer an option.
I am left with the choice of base WXGA WLED (1280 x 800), the CCFL version of that or WUXGA+ CCFL (1920x1200) @ £100 more. That is too high for me (resolution & maybe price). I really wanted the WXGA+ WLED and am pissed off it has gone
Anyone with knowledge of how dell works have any ideas why they would not be offering it any more or any ideas if it might come back?
I'm considering buying a studio 15 with P8400 which definitely supports intel VT.
Question,
is there an option in the bios to enable it? Can anyone with a studio 15 and a VT supported processor confirm or deny this option exists?
Is this the same technology and amazing screen as the XPS Studio 16? Anyone have this screen care to comment? I'm looking for a very bright and high quality screen and the Studio 17 seems like a perfect replacement for my Asus W2V.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo far, the leather-trimmed Studio XPS notebook only comes in black. But that could change very soon.
Dell's designers are considering a red (or according to them, "Bordeaux") plastic/leather lid combo, pictured here. It is not, however, part of the (Product) Red line.
a) Does the studio xps 1340 have the option to get bluetooth?
b) Intel 5300 found in the studio xps 1640 vs Dell Wireless 1510?
c) Is the RGB screen in the 1640 really worth the upgrade to the 1640 from the 1340?
I have a dell xpsm1330 and the video card i have is the invidia 8400 video card. this is the problematic video card much talked about already.
dell had since replaced, under warranty, my video card and the attached motherboard twice already.
i was told by the technician that the new invidia video card has a model / reference no. 686 631 A2. The old defective vid card has model no. 686 630 A2.
my DV2500 with it's beautiful NVIDIA 8400GS died. I tried all sorts of little experiments like the Xbox towel trick... and nothing worked.
Well, I found a local shop who will take apart the laptop and heat the solder points with a "machine" and are going to charge me about $50 for it, which I think is reasonable.
I go to pick it up tomorrow... I am kinda excited. I am hoping it will last me for another year or something, crazy optimistic I know but... we'll see.
This is for me not really acceptable, we are almost in the year 2010 and i find it weird that there are still b/g cards sold....
I definitely dont want only b/g but i do want n (most of us around me now have 50+ Internet connections and i hope the have next year 60/6 or even higher)
I asked around and people said that the 8xx Series nVidia GPU is defective and its very high risk of bricking my PC if i do so, others have said that its possible but to a small boost which is more than fine for me, becuase when im playing games or whatnot, then my screen freezes for a second.like if im playing a racing game and i have the up arrow key pressed and turning right and have them both held the game freezes untili let go of both keys and it returns like it was just frame hiccup or something nothing major but its a bit bothersome.
It still irriates me ALOT that even though Sony moved up from 7400 GPU to 8400 GS then DOWNGRADED the video ram from 128mb to 64mb which really sucks. I just sold my SZ4 for a pitiful £250 and bought an SZ60WN/C off my uncle for 350, but I feel like the overall performance of the SZ4 surpasses the SZ6 I notice a good amount of slowness...im not gonna say lag but slowness in the things i do on normal bases whether its multiple tabs or photoshop or anything else.
Now I know OVERALL the 8xx cards are defective but I heard that only some models were defective does this affect the SZ6/7? and anything I can do to OC the GPU or speed up my system by anyway.
MY ram is PC-6400 667 bus speed would i get a good speed bump moving upto a 800Bus speed RAM?
anyone can confirm that the Studio 1555 supports Memory Remapping?
If not even Vista 64Bit won't be able to use the full 4GB of RAM..
How to enable SLAT on Dell Studio 1450 (Core 2 Duo CPU P7450 2.13 GHz) as there is no option in BIOS.
What option I have because I am not able to use my laptop for Windows Phone 8 application development.
How much Watt does the Sony Z with P8400 consumes less than the P9500

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron E1705, Core 2 dou, 2 GB Ram, Very powerful laptop. I have an ATI Video card in it that I've been trying hard to upgrade to a Geforce. I bought 6 till with no luck at all, I bought all of them off ebay, the last one was a couple days ago, when I got it, I installed it and everything was working perfectly, I was so happy cuz this is the first one that actually works, after 1 hour of using it, red flickers started appearing on the screen, I restarted, tried different drivers, tried placing it again.. no luck at all . Now I have different colored lines and blinking pixels all over the screen, the background changes colors.. yellow, red, green.. and its not just on windows.. Bios, safe mode, everywhere.. I put my old ATI back and everything is working fine. I'm planning to send it back again to the seller, I attached some pics. I have a 90 w adapter but I dont think its a heating or power problems.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell Inspiron 9300. Recently, I flashed my vBios and had to do a blind flash. I've got a flash drive with all of the things needed on it, but I'm not so sure about the ROM. It was the only one I could find on the net, and it hasn't worked so far. I left the flash drive in for almost two hours, and it finally did the two beeps. It was on full auto mode and it didn't restart; it just sat there.
I guess I'm begging someone to send me a default bios for a Dell i9300's go 6800 gpu (NV41, according to dell, not sure if it matters).
Also, for clarification, the "backlight" refers to the monitor emitting a glow while still being blank, yes? Because as it is, the monitor doesn't even come on, much less emit any light.
How crappy is the NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS really? I am using a 7800gtx in my inspron 9300. Just ordered a 1330--- is the 8400 superior to the 7800gtx?
on a related note, is there anyway to upgrade the NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS to a different video card? Is any other nvidia card compatible?
I have a precision m70 and I wanted to know if I can use the geforce 6800go video card that was for an inspiron 9300? Also, can I use the 17" screen from inspiron 9300 or XPS gen 2 on a precision m70? I prefer to use the XPS gen 2 screen because of the darker bezel.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy new laptop has the Nvidia GeForce GO 8600M GT 256MB graphics card in it according to the Dell listing.
I can find mention of Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT 256MB without the word GO in the title all over the net and it doesn't look to bad.
So I'm wondering, is the word GO in the title of my card suggesting that perhaps I have a down scaled version / cheaper version or are they the same thing and same performance?
what is the cost for replacing geforce 8600mgt , if it fails after warranty period??? does i have to pay for motherboard also or gpu only ????
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Dell M1730 with 4 gigs of ram and the Intel Core 2 X9000 processor.
It has the 8800m SLI video card(s) in it. I installed Everest and it consistently says that the GPU temperature is running around 160 degrees F. I am *not* doing anything other than surfing the web and haven't been. Is this normal? The harddrive and cpu temperatures both seem fine. They are 91F and 90F respectively. Any ideas why the GPU would be so high especially since I'm not really doing anything (playing games for instance) that would push it to it's limits? I did buy a notebook cooler but it isn't here yet. It's sitting on a flat surface with decent airflow.
I'm just a little concerned as I don't want it to burn up.
