I just got my Studio 17, and there's little things that really bother me:
1) My F keys act as a function+F in games and not the actual F key, so I can't cast spells that are bound to my F keys. Anyone know how to disable it so that if I want to see my battery status or Wifi status, it requires the function key to be held down?
2) Some of the games I play such as warcraft 3 have 2 black lines on the right/left of my screen. They won't let me go full screen no matter what I try
whenever I play a Dvd or a downloaded video the video plays with solid black bars on the left and right side..
I assume this is full screen! I want to watch everything in Wide screen ( black bars on top running horizontally) have gone into my settings etc..including my ATI ( Catalyst Control Center) and tweaked settings still no joy!
Even on sites like You tube the same happens! Any ideas? Also posted a while ago on a reliable free data backup site! Had Dell Data Safe on-line not impressed and dumped it!
I bought the studio 15 with full HD screen and blu-ray, I have read about some people saying at full 1080 resolution, the writing is wayyyyy too small.
Is this true, and is there no way to decrease the resolution.
I thought if I am getting blu-ray I might as well get full HD screen but I don't want to get my laptop and find that the writing is tiny, and I have to use a magnifying glass to do anything.
I have a Studio 1555 and keep getting the message that my drive "D" is almost full. Can I delete all these files and and let the system start backing everything up again? I'm also running Norton 360 which has a backup file on the same drive, is this double redundancy or what?
Whenever I try playing a Movie on my Studio's Blu-Ray drive & output it to my 26" LCD TV thru the HDMI, the picture on the screen is letterboxed on all 4 sides. It shows up as not much bigger than my laptop screen in size.
I have a studio xps 16 and whenever I plug it via HDMI to my tv (which has a 1080p resolution) there are black bars all around the image, meaning the image is smaller than the tv. I've set the resolution of the tv (from Catalyst Control Center) to 1920x1080 and it still won't do full screen...
pretty much that....I'm running is SLI, does that have anything to do with it? Also I'm going to try updating my graphics driver, but does anyone have a good driver cleaner recommendation .....
My problem is first i had clean my laptop yesterday with a cleaner for laptops l disable my laptop battery and clean it and put it with towel cover for two hours and i turned it on then the laptop work fine but the keyboard has a problem it type different thing than i typed then i disable it and put the keyboard under the sun for about 3 hours and the problem still founded then i open my laptop and extract the motherboard and i just clean it with caution with cotton and then put the motherboard in the laptop and connect all the wire with it thn i close the cover of laptop and turned th laptop on and just the fan run at full speed and the light works also the cd room but the motherboard not working my qustion is what the problem behind the full speed fan and blank screen is it a disabled hardware like cpu or gpu or ram...
i cant seem to get fullscreen on the monitor using 1920x1080p but if i lower the resolution to 1680x1050 it works full screen on the monitor but not full screen on my XPS.
I think the problem is in the laptop setting as I used a friends samsung monitor and that didnt go fullscreen either. My old Hp dv9500 did not have any problems with the fullscreen.
During recent travel I have noticed that while watching videos on fullscreen with VLC Player or Media Player Classic on the laptops own monitor, there seems to be a weird tearing-like effect on the screen.
That "problem" however does not exist with Windows Media Player, or on an external monitor (as at home).
Any ideas what might cause this? I'm running Windows XP SP3 with all the recent updates and my video card is GF 7900 GTX 512MB.
I have a year and a half old Inspiron 5010N and after about 5 minutes of being on (plugged in BTW) the screen goes dim for about 5 seconds and then comes back to full brightness. It only seems to do this once, then is fine for the rest of the use. Power setting is for "performance".
Any need to worry about an impending failure or any way to troubleshoot? It's just unnerving and doesn't seem right.
It will work fine for awhile then all of the sudden it will freeze.
I Googled this, and people said tick Enable Hardware Acceleration to off.
I did so but now the video is slow pretty much all the time. What is causing this? I upgraded my video drivers in the hopes of it solving this problem, but it did not
I have stuck it out with the RC 7100 RC. Got burned out by all the builds, although it was a hell of a lot of fun! I am looking to hear from fellow 1640 users experiences thus far with 7600.
I purchased a few 7's via pre order and am Debating just running the rc until Oct. 22. On the other hand I am very curious to have a go @ the RTM. Let me know how it is going for you.
do you find intel hd graphics performance for non intensive tasks sluggish like scrolling on certain sites and maximizing a youtube video, i see a white screen for two seconds before the full screen renders. not like this when i disable automatic graphics switching... i also used migration assistant to get my data back from my 2009 c2d i sold. happens with firefox not chrome or safari...
I am playing a game or watching a movie in Fullscreen, randomly it minimizes to desktop and I dont know what is causing this issue. I restore the window to Fullscreen again and everything is normal.
Points to note here - 1) It is completely random, happens once in couple of hours. 2) I use my laptop connected to a TV using HDMI. 3) I use USB mouse and keyboard (which have never been an issue with my old laptop) 4) I play Origin and Steam games and it happens with both of them.
Is there a way to detect, what program might be causing this? Otherwise, my system is completely stable and works great. Its just annoying, suddenly for the game to minimize when you are about to score a goal in FIFA (or the other way round).
Also, I have the AVG Free Antivirus.I will try to dig through its settings and check What can I disable.
My Studio 1555 is being replaced because of an overheating issue.I would be glad if someone could post any experience with Dell India regarding replacement. Are they efficient and do they make sure that the new one is problem free?
Also,I read on some other forums about them offering freebies with replacements...like an extended complete cover n stuff...now,now I'm not being greedy but the way I got a screwed up laptop from Dell,it wouldn't hurt to strike a good bargain the second time around
I have had my M1330 (yes the one with the NVIDIA 8400M chip) have had no major problems to date. However, two days ago I had some touchpad issues i.e. a sluggish, unresponsive touchpad so I decided to contact Dell. The experience was really good I go an agent by the name of Mr. Abdul Aleem who was really friendly and provided me with a form to transfer my ownership and then he fixed the issue.
Now earlier this year I contacted Dell about another machine and this wacko was telling me that since I bought the laptop at Best Buy I should go to Best Buy to deal with warranty issues despite the laptop having 1 year basic warranty from Dell.
So I was very pleased with the interaction with Mr. Aleem.
So this a thread to share your experiences with Dell's Customer Care.
I am thinking of buying a Vostro 1220 because I now need a portable computer to carry around with me all the time. However, I have only found one review and that wasn't very detailed.
I am particularly concerned about fan noise - I have a 17" Inspiron 9400 at the moment and it doesn't make any noise until it has been on for a long time, but I imagine that a smaller computer may have small heat sinks and therefore need to have the fan running at a higher speed all the time
I think it would be nice for us M1730 owners to share information as to wich dirvers you've tried, with what games and what your experiences have been with them?
I'm having a pretty bad headache getting a driver that runs all my games just as well. I'm playing DiRT, Gird, Race07, UT3, BioShock, CS: Source, Quake4, Quake Wars and so far I've tried 173.13's and 167.51's from DELL, 174.82, 174.90 and 177.35 from www.laptopvideo2go.com and I've had mixed results. Sometimes I'm getting games reset SLI mid-game and then reverting to low-power clocks without it returning back unless I either restart the machine or enable/disable SLI or one of the cards in device manager.
But when it's running a game smoothly its FRIGGIN AWESOME! I just want it to be stable.
For the recrod I always uinsintall drivers, install Standard VGA Adapter drivers, boot into safe mode and use driver sweaper to remove all traces of the previous driver before trying the next one.
So whats it gonna be? Anyone else sharing my driver pain?
