View 10 RepliesI am about to order a Sony Vaio FW490, and I would like to know how much of a difference visually that these 2 screens are. I know that the FullHD obviously looks better, but how much better exactly? And is it worth the extra $100 or so?
I have yet to see a FullHD screen at the Best Buy near me so it is difficult for me to compare the two. I have also heard that the FullHD screen is not adequate for gaming. Is this true? I am not a hardcore gamer by any means, but I did plan on playing some of my new games like Street Fighter 4 occasionally. In addition, a 1920x1080 resolution does seem quite large for a 16.4" screen. Can anybody provide some sort of screenshot of the FullHD screen?
I was asking about the difference between XBRITE-ECO and XBRITE-FullHD. To my surprise, the rep told me the XBRITE-FullHD is LED backlit (which I think it's not true). I ask her to confirm that and she came back with the same answer.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI dont get what the differance is.
All uk Sony vaio FW's and AW's have X black.
All US sony vaio FW'S and AW's have Xbrite.
is there any differance?
I am thinking about getting FW390 CTO. How does regular font look like on FW390 with XBRITE-FullHD 1920x1080? If you use Word or Excel in this resolution does it look too small?
I currently use 22" with 1680x1050 resolution and font looks good to me. I cannot imagine fonts on 16" with 1920x1080 resolution.
whenever I play a Dvd or a downloaded video the video plays with solid black bars on the left and right side..
I assume this is full screen! I want to watch everything in Wide screen ( black bars on top running horizontally) have gone into my settings etc..including my ATI ( Catalyst Control Center) and tweaked settings still no joy!
Even on sites like You tube the same happens! Any ideas? Also posted a while ago on a reliable free data backup site! Had Dell Data Safe on-line not impressed and dumped it!
Whenever I try playing a Movie on my Studio's Blu-Ray drive & output it to my 26" LCD TV thru the HDMI, the picture on the screen is letterboxed on all 4 sides. It shows up as not much bigger than my laptop screen in size.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a studio xps 16 and whenever I plug it via HDMI to my tv (which has a 1080p resolution) there are black bars all around the image, meaning the image is smaller than the tv. I've set the resolution of the tv (from Catalyst Control Center) to 1920x1080 and it still won't do full screen...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got my Studio 17, and there's little things that really bother me:
1) My F keys act as a function+F in games and not the actual F key, so I can't cast spells that are bound to my F keys. Anyone know how to disable it so that if I want to see my battery status or Wifi status, it requires the function key to be held down?
2) Some of the games I play such as warcraft 3 have 2 black lines on the right/left of my screen. They won't let me go full screen no matter what I try
watching videos using VLC every so often when going full screen i get an "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered." error thingy.
http://blog.stevex.net/index.php/200...has-recovered/
pretty much that....I'm running is SLI, does that have anything to do with it? Also I'm going to try updating my graphics driver, but does anyone have a good driver cleaner recommendation .....
I have XPS 1530 (red). I had made some changes to NVidia settings (video settings) and was able to view the movies full screen.
But after some days its not working. I checked the changes i made; its still the same, but movies are not viewed full screen.
So as the title indicates, i get choppy video when i try to watch some sort of online stream such as youtube or hulu in full screen view.
It's unbarebly choppy, just not as smooth as it could be.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Fullscreen viewing works fine on my XPS desktop (4 years old), so i dont think its the internet
im looking for a new laptop for my girlfriend.
The studio 15 caught my eye mainly because of the backlit keyboard and full hd screen option.
Do anbody have any experiences with this combination or atleast with the 4500 intel gfx card ?
She are mainly or only gonna use it for schoolwork, big excel sheets and movies so i guess its sufficient?
And whats the battery time with my choice, any info on that?
I want to know if it's possible to change the screen of my Z510 to a full hd!

View 5 Replies View Relateddo you find intel hd graphics performance for non intensive tasks sluggish like scrolling on certain sites and maximizing a youtube video, i see a white screen for two seconds before the full screen renders. not like this when i disable automatic graphics switching... i also used migration assistant to get my data back from my 2009 c2d i sold. happens with firefox not chrome or safari...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am playing a game or watching a movie in Fullscreen, randomly it minimizes to desktop and I dont know what is causing this issue. I restore the window to Fullscreen again and everything is normal.
Points to note here -
1) It is completely random, happens once in couple of hours.
2) I use my laptop connected to a TV using HDMI.
3) I use USB mouse and keyboard (which have never been an issue with my old laptop)
4) I play Origin and Steam games and it happens with both of them.
Is there a way to detect, what program might be causing this?
Otherwise, my system is completely stable and works great. Its just annoying, suddenly for the game to minimize when you are about to score a goal in FIFA (or the other way round).
Also, I have the AVG Free Antivirus.I will try to dig through its settings and check What can I disable.
i cant seem to get fullscreen on the monitor using 1920x1080p but if i lower the resolution to 1680x1050 it works full screen on the monitor but not full screen on my XPS.
I think the problem is in the laptop setting as I used a friends samsung monitor and that didnt go fullscreen either. My old Hp dv9500 did not have any problems with the fullscreen.
During recent travel I have noticed that while watching videos on fullscreen with VLC Player or Media Player Classic on the laptops own monitor, there seems to be a weird tearing-like effect on the screen.
That "problem" however does not exist with Windows Media Player, or on an external monitor (as at home).
Any ideas what might cause this? I'm running Windows XP SP3 with all the recent updates and my video card is GF 7900 GTX 512MB.
I have turned on full screen magnifier via Fn+Spacebar. But doing the same again does NOT turn it off. Is there a workaround?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a year and a half old Inspiron 5010N and after about 5 minutes of being on (plugged in BTW) the screen goes dim for about 5 seconds and then comes back to full brightness. It only seems to do this once, then is fine for the rest of the use. Power setting is for "performance".
Any need to worry about an impending failure or any way to troubleshoot? It's just unnerving and doesn't seem right.
It will work fine for awhile then all of the sudden it will freeze.
I Googled this, and people said tick Enable Hardware Acceleration to off.
I did so but now the video is slow pretty much all the time. What is causing this? I upgraded my video drivers in the hopes of it solving this problem, but it did not
problems with video playback on any site that uses flash as their means of delivering video content.
Some examples of sites are youtube, HULU, and abc.com
everytime i go into full screen mode the video becomes choppy, delayed and just unbearable to watch.
I have a geforce 9200m gs with 512 mb of vram running at 1920x1200, a core 2 duo 2.0ghz HP dv4t running vista x64 (though i had problems with both windows 7 beta and vista x86) and i have the latest nvidia drivers and downloaded the latest flash software.
I have also tried multiple browsers (IE, firefox, chorme) and also tried both enabled and disabled hardware acceleration in the flash setting..
Any full screen game shuts my computer down after 5 minutes of play. I have changed my antivirus to game mode, checked with the company that I was getting the majority of my games from. Is there any way to stop this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just tested my new European Z11 model with full HD and Core i7 for a couple of days and I'm a bit concernd about the full HD panel. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
+ very bright and sharp
+ very nice colors
+ viewing angels are good
Cons:
- visible areaways at the bottom of the screen
- uneven lighting
- very small fonts, even with DPI scaling of Windows 7 .....
I bought Full HD display, but I was dissapinted when I connected it to my laptop and found out that i cant set the full hd resolution and that only other 16:9 is 1366x768 which is the same as the laptops display.
Is this hardware problem (TZ240 does not support full hd resolution) or is something wrong with my video drivers?
My sister-in-law has a Vaio VGN-NR18OE and she is having major issues with the laptop. It's having trouble booting and I just want to restore it to the factory fresh state.
I am hundreds of miles from her so I can't see the screen and I have never even physically touched this laptop. I'm hoping somebody on here can help out. Below are some details of this laptop:
purchased at the end of 2007
Core 2 duo 1.5 ghz
1gb RAM (too little for Vista, I know)
Vista Home premium
200gb hard drive
did not come with any discs
Since it did not come with any discs, I'm assuming there is a recovery partition on the hard drive but I cannot find anything in the user guide (or any where else for that matter) on how to ACCESS this partition and start the restore process.
On my old Gateway laptop, I would just put a disc in and it would start the process using the partition. My Lenovo just has a second power button that directly accesses the partition.
What do I do with this Vaio?
For maximum battery life, can the Z run full 1080p Bluray on the integrated graphics card and not use the 'external' graphics card? This is query for both old and new Z.
