I am about to order a Sony Vaio FW490, and I would like to know how much of a difference visually that these 2 screens are. I know that the FullHD obviously looks better, but how much better exactly? And is it worth the extra $100 or so?
I have yet to see a FullHD screen at the Best Buy near me so it is difficult for me to compare the two. I have also heard that the FullHD screen is not adequate for gaming. Is this true? I am not a hardcore gamer by any means, but I did plan on playing some of my new games like Street Fighter 4 occasionally. In addition, a 1920x1080 resolution does seem quite large for a 16.4" screen. Can anybody provide some sort of screenshot of the FullHD screen?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about getting FW390 CTO. How does regular font look like on FW390 with XBRITE-FullHD 1920x1080? If you use Word or Excel in this resolution does it look too small?
I currently use 22" with 1680x1050 resolution and font looks good to me. I cannot imagine fonts on 16" with 1920x1080 resolution.
I was asking about the difference between XBRITE-ECO and XBRITE-FullHD. To my surprise, the rep told me the XBRITE-FullHD is LED backlit (which I think it's not true). I ask her to confirm that and she came back with the same answer.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a brand new customized Sony VGN-Z890FKB. The sales representative of the website where I bought it from, states all their models come with the Premium Carbon Fibre lid, however I find it very hard to tell the difference between the two.
Nowhere it is indicated that this one has the carbon fibre lid. On the side of the box it says B (Black) so I got confused.
The lid is black indeed, if I look close enough I see small silverish specs mixed with the black, even on the bottom side of the laptop. The palmrest/keyboard area is a darker black without silverish specs in it.
A friend of mine has a Sony SZ and there you can tell it is a black Carbon Fibre lid (black with a hint of purple in it - when you angle the laptop from one light source to the other + you somewhat see horizontal lines on the lid of the Sony SZ).
Also if you look carefully on the sonystyle site, you see those same horizontal-like lines on the Carbon Fibre Black lid of the Sony Z contrary to the Black plastic lid.
How can one tell whether his Sony laptop has a carbon fibre or black plastic lid?
I am aiming at buying VAIO P. I am thinking of the 2GHz as the 1.33 in the UK retail shops is pretty slow. I am thinking of Dynamism/conics?
Is there a performance difference with Win 7 or XP? or do you recommend
It seems only the 1920 resolution Z has the 96 percent adobe RGB. The screen seems a lot more colorful.
So first the SSD issue, and now this
I have a Sony VGN-AR190G that needs a motherboard replacement. Replacing the motherboard is something I can do easily, but I'm having trouble finding a reasonably priced replacement board.
I have found a board for a VGN-AR170P, but I was wondering what the difference between the two would be. Is the only difference just the hardware? Or is there something on the board that would prevent me from using it in my AR190.
My VGN-S1XP has today developed two unusual black spots on the screen, one I found this afternoon, and the other has only appeared within the last few hours.
But these are NOT dead pixels, the pixels are functioning correctly, and when viewed from different angles this is obvious.
The marks appear to be behind the pixels, at first when there was just one I wondered if an insect had found it's way in there. The other spot however, is decidedly not insect shaped
i just got my sony vaio FW 250JH two days ago. From the very start of using my pc, When i boot it up, shows me the welcome screen of vista,
and then, suddenly the screen goes black and only I can see is the arrow of the mouse
i have my dad has a sony vaio and about a month ago the screen just went black. we just now decided to fix it and so i thought it may have been the monitor so i bought a new monitor and it ended up not fixing it. but when u boot it up all u can see is sony vaio but it is very faint and u can hardly see it and u cant see anything after that.
View 6 Replies View Relatedfairly old Vaio laptop. Can barely get past start up screen. Half the time all i get is black screem when i turn it on. I can get into windows though after a few attempts. I would like to completely reformat it, preferably putting on xp or even the new Windows 7. But i dont have any boots discs. So i don't know how to go about doing it. A breif step by step on how to wipe my laptop would be perfect.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am on the verge of buying a Vaio Z690 CTO but have one final questions, if you had to choose between black, or premium carbon fiber, which would you pick? I am nervous that with black, I would feel as if I should have opt'd for Premium and if I get premium, I am nervous the notebook won't look as classy. I have seen black at the Sony style store however and it looked very classy.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Studio 1558 laptop running Windows 7. Recently, when I open an application (ex. Microsoft Word, McAfee, Excel), the screen fades to black, stays black for 2-3 seconds, then pops back up. It has happened at a few other times too, but I don't recall the specific circumstances. The laptop is 2 1/2 years old, unfortunately out of warranty ....
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a problem with my 2 year old vaio sz. Since some weeks, screen turns black in irrregular intervals. The system is still available, but i can't see anything on the screen. The only solution is to push the power button an switch to standby mode. Afer pushing the power button again, the system comes up again and the screen turns on! The problem only occured in battery mode.
I tried nearly everything to fix the problem. I reinstalled Windows XP, tried different power management settings... nothing worked.
I just recently purchased a used VGN-Z520n from ebay.
I noticed there is a small dent on the carbon fiber casing on the Keyboard.
I want to replace that part, but I actually like the black color on the new Z series. Is there a way I can purchase just the Black keyboard housing and replace it on my vaio?
I have my destop wallpaper/background set to change every 30 minutes, pulling from the entire picture library (which is a few gigabytes). I have noticed that every now and then...say, maybe 10-20% of the time. The desktop background goes completely black after the switch. This happens whether the switch is set to Auto or I manually flip the switch (which makes sense, actually).
The only thing that restores the picture to view is logging off and back on. None of the following have any impact or cause the picture to display:Right-clicking on the desktop and selecting.....
If my laptop turns on, it either freezes, BSODs, or black screens (could be anywhere from the windows loading logo to doing some work on word, etc.)
And if it doesnt turn on, well it does; the hdd light goes on (for a second), same with the battery light (the battery light is fine though), but the screen is black; i can hear hdd activity though and if i throw a cd in there, it spins properly and whatnot, but it just doesnt do anything past the blank screen.
An external monitor doesnt work, and reformatting seemed to have helped abit, but then it just got worse 2 days ago; I can't get past the black screen after I turn it on.
I'm 99% sure its a hardware problem, and I'd be willing to replace whatever it is if I knew what it was, but I dont know if it's the hdd, or the ram, or the video card, etc.
I've also taken the laptop apart; so reseating the ram and hdd doesnt work.
