Dell :: The 128GB SSD Speed Test
Mar 19, 2009I finally got around to benchmarking this thing... As this is my first SSD I really didn't know what to expect, or if it is that great in comparison to others. Anyways.

View 5 RepliesDoes anybody have HD Tune or HD Tach benchmark for 1.8" 128GB SSD that comes in E4200 ?
I originally ordered refurbished E4200 with 64 GB SSD because I read it has better performance compared to 128GB model, but canceled the order because I realiezed 4 cell battery might be too small and the one I ordered does not come with fingerprint reader and bluetooth.
I ordered another one with 128GB SSD, fingerprint reader, 6 cell battery and bluetooth for just $40 more. (at cost of a little slower processor and no DVD-RW and latitude on capability )
I found HD Tune bechmark result for 64GB SSD, but I don't see benchmark for 128GB model.
I will be great if someone with 128GB SSD post HD Tune benchmark or at least post its modem number so I can read specifications.
R173J Module,Solid State Drive,128G S2,Thin Micro Sata,Samsung,XLO
This is what it says on my order, which is not very helpful in figure out what this SSD really is, other than its samsung model.
I have a Dell N5050 which has the following erros on it:
Targeted Read Test, Error Alert Icon Failed,Critical Alert and SMART Short Self Test,Error Alert Icon Failed,Critical Alert.
What i can do to sort this problem out?
For the past two days LSC is alerting that Hardware scan has detected one or more hardware failures. The tests in which my laptop G505 59379534 is failing are given as Targeted read and smart short self test. Also against local connection test warning is shown. My OS is windows 8.1. Only couple of days back I have installed HP2545 printer on my PC. I do not know wheher this has something to do with present status of laptop. Also I am using Kaspersky internet security 2014. I am worried whether this alert message points to any serious impending problem for my laptop. Laptop is almost 9 months old. It is still under warranty.

Currently the program to check the hard drive by LSC, the error message is: Targeted read test Failed

SMART drive self-test Passed
The time machine is still time 8 months warranty. Hitachi Hard Drive 500 GB 7200 rpm / min
Is it due to the speed that new hard drive used for 3 months has been corrupted? In case of warranty, Lenovo does not provide a Windows license again, right?

Does anybody have any info on these? I looked around, but couldn't really find any.
I'm wondering if they studder at all, and just general impressions from anyone who has the one that ships from Dell.
I am planning to get a DEll E4200 and may I know what kind of 128GB SSD interface it is using within this laptop
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm getting the feeling mine is underperforming.
Here's mine:
how does the dells (samsung right?) 128gb ssd which they put in the studio xps 13/16 compare to 7200rpm drives like the WD ones. is a little/lot quicker?
the drive dell use is the old 90mb read/70mb write ones i think,
Does anyone know the part number/manufacturer for the XPS 16's 128gb SSD. I just bought the 1645 with it and would like more info when I present the computer as a gift for xmas.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAny firmware out for this yet? Or does anyone know of a workaround with another existing firmware?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a E4200. within a day i have used up the 64 Gb Hard Drive, is there any where i can find a compatible Hard drive for it other that the 128gb HDD.
if not, does anyone know where i can get the 128 GB hard drive from ?
I am trying to decide between the following 2 Z's which are approx. the same price.
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz / 4GB RAM / 128GB SSD / DVD±R/RW / Hybrid Graphics / 802.11AGN / WWAN / Bluetooth / GPS / Webcam / Windows 7 Professional [ SON VGNZ880GB ]
Intel Core 2 Duo P8800 2.66GHz / 4GB RAM / 500GB HD / DVD±R/RW / Hybrid Graphics / 802.11AGN / WWAN / Bluetooth / GPS / Webcam / Windows 7 Professional [ SON VGNZ850GB ]
I do everyday tasks like MS office,MS Streets, and use approx. 10GB for my multimedia files.
My first question is, will I notice the difference in speed? Will be the SSD with P8700 faster than the HDD 5400 RPM with P8800 in terms of boot,read-write documents etc?
If I go with the 128 GB SSD, how much free space can I expect to have on the drive after W7 ?
which drive is the better choice between the 128GB SSD (MLC) vs 320GB 7200rpm options currenlty on the Z690.
I've heard the MLC SSD's are fast in certain areas, but arent always the best options vs the 7200rpm drives yet... and have some issues with multi-tasking, etc. So basically, my question is how is the 128GB Samsung MLC rated vs the 7200rpm drives Sony uses?
I know Raid 0 is not very reliable, but can it be so unreliable that it dies after sitting shut for a day.
The laptop battery had 90% charge.
This was my third boot which I made to create a backup disk. I turned it on last yesterday and when I turned it on again today this is what I see.
1 .So I am left without recovery disks what to do?
2. Can we change the SSD's to Intel?
3. I tried a JBOD and tried installing Vista 64bit and it worked although I did not go
ahead with the setup.
4. Are Jbod drives slower than RAID 0? If so by how much.

Also post your laptop configuration to go with it...

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i woke up this morning one half of my screen was white and the other side was pretty dark.
So I decided to turn the computer off and kept it off for 30 mins. When I started it back up the backlight seemed fine but it still looks kind of dim on the left side.
how the media buttons stop working after a resume and how the eject button stays on.
i have been testing something and would like others to try this out. follow me here:
i notice the eject button light stays on when i close the lid and then pull the usb cable out (connected to a Dell 24" widescreen with usb port which connects: 2 mouse and 2 printers and a external drive).
*IF* i disconnect the usb first and wait for the full disconnect sound and THEN close lid, the eject button doesn't light up.
i'm thinking... and it could be completely wong here but the eject button might have something to do with shut down and boot up of usb devices and is going though some sort of a systems check? why? i dunno. it's been rather sporatic but i head to class 4x's a week and i shut down differently and i have experienced different results. testing a few things out.
Hey all,
I just got a coolermaster notepal infinite cooler today and have tried it out for 30 min playing left 4 dead. Usually my gpu would throttle due to high temps but it isnt anymore with the cooler, although it is still really hot.
max temps
gpu = 80 degrees c (still really hot!, used to throttle at 84)
cpu = 73 degrees c (much much better, used to reach 84 as well)
So the cooler has helped although not as much as i would like for the gpu. It gets me thinking that without the throttling that gpu could reach 90 degrees easily.
It also doesnt really decrease the idle temps too much, maybe 5 degrees ish.
Overall, it definitely helps, but this laptop is still damn hot, even with the cooler. I will continue testing with different games and will let you know the outcomes.
I am getting this from the outlet so I am a little more concerned about the possible issues. I am looking for guidance to look for typical issues people have seen so I can check them out as soon I get it.
Also looking for CPU and heat test software I can use to make sure it does not have heat issues.
Right now I have the Hmonitor and the Intel burnin test. Any advice on this front is appreciated.
My specs are
Studio 15 - 1558 Laptop
Certified Refurbished
64BIT Operating System CD .....
I got my XPS M1530 about 5 months ago and everything was fine. But today, while I was playing Test Drive Unlimited, I noticed that the game began slowing down etc.. so I opened up HWMonitor (ver. 1.10.00) to check the temperatures. Here they are:
ACPI - THM_ : 90 C
CPU : 90 C (Both Cores)
GPU Core: 90
I'm not able to start my laptop properly so I tried to resolve this problem as following:1. Restart my laptop, pressing F12 and selected Diagnostics.I got following message on screen:
Error code: 0142
Msg: Error code 2000-0142
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful.
Sometimes system stuck on Windows logo appear at just start up. Sometimes system become standalone after login and I cannot do anything. Even I cannot move cursor.Sometimes after login a blue screen appear showing message of memory dump. I just want to make sure that Hard drive is not crashed because When I run system in Safe mode I can see all drives. Does this means Hard drive is OK?
The Dell XPS 13 and 16 are not the successor of the hitherto existing XPS 1330 and 1530 notebooks, as you might assume. No, Dell declares that they want to position these beside the existing XPS models, whereas the current XPS range will coexist for the time being. The differences to the current XPS models are defined in the higher standard of manufacturing quality and in the design. Performance thoughts shouldn't dominantly be in the foreground anymore....
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been using my Dell Inspiron N7110 with windows 7 for a little over a year now and a couple days ago, I turned it on to find out it wouldn't boot up anymore. It works normally up until it gets to the windows logo animation, which does not occur anymore. It seems just stall here for a bit then show the wallpaper for the login screen but will not show the area to input login credentials. This happens the exact same way even when I choose to start up in safe mode or anything like that.
So I ran a diagnostic and everything checked out except for the hard drive. It gives me the error "Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N 6VER58HG, self test unsuccessful. Status = 79". The hard drive still seems to be seen in the diagnostics and such, but does not to be responsive I suppose.
I am getting failed targeted read test (WHD20-H7P) and SMART short self test (WHD16-H14) when I am running PC checck up.

In the interest of maximum (safe) performance, I will test both generic ATI drivers and official Dell drivers with real-world benchmarks (probably mostly video games).
I will test Dell's official ATI driver, the generic ATI 10.4 driver, and any beta driver available from ATI's website. I will not be testing third party drivers.
ATI recommends that Dell laptop users use the Dell drivers.
Dell recommends that Dell laptop users use the Dell drivers.
Which is actually better? We're going to find out.
The test should take place within a week. Right now I need to find a few games that can produce consistent results (i.e. number of fps when watching a pre-recorded demo). Any ideas or requests for games to use? (free game demos, please)
I will be testing Resident Evil 5 benchmark demo, set in fixed mode, DX10, default settings. It gives an average fps reading.
I might also test Quake Live (I think it has a good timedemo test, need to find out) and Starcraft II beta if I can find a way to average its fps reading (does FRAPS do this?).
When I find 3 total tests that I can perform, I will begin testing.
UPDATE: thank you to gaah for performing the driver comparison test.
Test Results: The Dell driver's performance is equal to the performance of ATI 10.4 driver. The Dell driver offers additional features such as the HDMI/DP Audio driver and AVIVO.
Actual test results: XPS 16: Performance Test of Mobility Radeon HD 4670 drivers
