I unplug my laptop and after 15 mins it says "your battery power is low (7%) if you don't plug in your computer soon it will hibernate automatically". I know its fully charged and i press the button on the battery and all lights are on..what should i do?

I have a question regarding my Dell Vostro 1000's battery.
To start off, I did the recharge and discharge method and after that, when I disconnected the AC-Power, it only shows the "Total Battery Charge 100%" but the primary, it doesn't say anything. Plus, when it was unplugged, it stays at 100%. Few minutes later, it will drop to 7% and the Battery LED will flash orange to tell me that the battery is low.
And my Battery health is good, but why is Windows 7 not detecting the battery charge properly??

Does anybody have Windows 7 running on the Vostro 1000.?
If yes, what are your experiences?
Did everything work after install ?
Do I need to install the 32 bits or the 64 bits on the Vostro 1000
My Vostro 1000 has recently been failing to charge the battery. There's no adapter warning, no battery warning, nothing. It'll indicate that it's charging normally, so I will leave it overnight to charge only to find it deader than a doornail the following day. I typically shut it down when I'm not using it, so it's charging with the power off anyway.
The battery is a nine cell Rayovac COM 10025 and the chargers are both Dell PA-90s. I know one of the chargers has a break in the communication line, but I can still get it to charge the battery if I hold the wire just right as I put the plug into the computer. The other charger, which is my main one, seems to work OK.
When this happens, the laptop will not charge the battery at all until I pop the battery out and back in. The battery is only three months old, so I shouldn't be having trouble with it. The last battery, which had to be replaced under warranty, was the same model and had lost 2/3 of its capacity in less than a year.
I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on my Vostro 1000. However, I've been reading conflicting information across the web (including some posts in this forum) which state that the maximum amount of RAM this system can take is 2GB ......

Really, I am not an idiot, but shouldn't that go off too? I don't want to power off, take my computer somewhere and there is no juice because the battery took over and ran down.
I have a Dell Vostro 1000 and my SD card slot will not work. My brother has the SAME exact one as I do and his works.
I tried my same card on his and it worked fine. We ordered the laptops together, added the same stuff just changed the quantity.
Having problem with fan. Fan comes on momentarily and quits at start up.
Doing diagnostic using Fn and power on the result displays err msg of 2000-8010.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my Dell Vostro 1000 which is equiped with a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H ATA DVD/CD writer, it appears I can't write to disk anymore. I can still read DVDs and CDs without errors. Just when I attempt to burn disks, the drive fails with unspecified errors. One thing I noticied is that when I recently used Roxio to burn an ISO image to a CD, the operation completed. But when I reinserted the disk nothing was found on it. It appeared to be blank when reading it from the Vostro laptop. So, I inserted the disk into another DVD/CD drive on another computer. The CD appeared blank but when I tried to write to it from the other computer the pre-write check reported that only 13MB of space was available. So something was on the disk but it ws not visible to either computer. Weird. I tried cleaning the optics but the write operation still failed. Should I consider the drive dead?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI opened my laptop to clean it using the manual on Dell website and when I got it back together it doesn't want to charge. When I plug it in the light on the charger goes off and a squeaky sound can be heard from the charger.
My friend has Vostro 1510 and mine and his chargers work with his laptop, but not with mine. So anytime I plug his or mine chargers the light on it just goes off and then it has to be unplugged and plugged again in the socket to restart it.
I believe there is some sort of protection in the charger, other than the fuse. Without the battery the laptop does not work
I've had my laptop for only 2 weeks (I bought it brand new), and I've never had this problem before. Starting today, my battery wouldn't charge past 82%. It charges fine until it reaches 82%.
Then, it just suddenly stops charging. After looking at an advanced battery monitor, I saw that the charge rate after hitting 82% was 0 mW (no charge...). Is this a battery monitor calibration problem? Or a battery problem? I've only had my laptop for 2 weeks...
I have a Vostro 1088 and it also have battery symbol on it function key F3. However, when pressing this key, nothing happens. I have installed all drivers and every devices are recognized in Device Manager.
I wonder Vostro 1088 does have the functionality to disable charge when plugging!

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that I use for work, it's about 1.5 years old and the battery just died a week ago. The computer wouldn't recognize the battery, the battery had no charge, battery light flashing, etc... I thought this was weird, but whatever...
I got a new battery, and it seems to work fine, I can run with or without being plugged in, although about 90% of the time I am plugged. Here's the weird thing, no matter how long I leave the computer plugged in it always says chgarging on the little taskbar with 99% charged... I don't think this is normal? I wonder if this is why the last battery died so soon?
Any sugestions? I have the latest bios...

So I have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 1520, the battery recently went dead. Cant charge and cannot hold a charge. Runs fine with the ac adaptor plugged in without moving it.
However I can not play games on it that I have been able to play before. Is this because I am running solely on the ac adaptor?
I bought a Vostro 1500. It has been fine and I got XP instead of Vista. 2GB of RAM.
It boots up fine with quick Dell screen, black XP start up screen with thermometer line at bottom, then light blue XP screen then Vostro.
Before the destop icons show up next after Vostro and I am all set. Now it stops at Vostro.
I can get to programs using task manager file open and browse. Not very convenient.
im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?
i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :
price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard,current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?
ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.
the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?

The HD in my Inspiron 1000 died and I am trying to install XP on my new HD.
The install process formats the drive and loads the system files but then it turns off. Always at the same point.
I can load and run Windows 2000 Pro with no problems.
I have tried a dell reinstall disk for XP Home, and XP Pro and they both have the same symptom
My computer has started doing a clicking noise. It isn't all the time but comes and goes and if very loud.
I have it sitting on a fan to keep it from overheating but that isn't helping the clicking noise which seems to get worse while surfing the net or things that require it to work harder
My grandpa gave me his old insprion 1000 and i wiped it clean and reinstalled windows xp on it. i was hoping to use this computer for my music (itunes, syncing ipods ect.)
but the speakers will not work. i go into the control panel and under the sounds and devices it says that there is no audio device.
i know that this computer has speakers build in and i can see them on the front on the computer. Also when i try and plus external speakers in it doesn't detect them either.
Everytime I boot up the laptop, I get halted with the blue box asking me for the bios password.
I know this laptop is quite different and that even removing the cmos battery for like a day is not going to help. There is no 24xxx chip that I can short on the mobo.
Then I found SST39VF040 bios chip on the back of the mobo and also found a 93lc86 bios chip too .....
