Dell :: Studio 15 Webcam Center "No Supported Webcam Driver Detected" SOLVED

May 18, 2009

A few days before I was going to shipping my Studio 15 off. I looked in the box and low and behold I found the Dell Webcam Center disk that I originally thought that Dell had forgotten to include.

Upon installation I found that the specific version of Dell WC that came with my Studio 15 is not the same one that you find at the downloads center on support.dell.com.

I could never get the downloaded Dell WC to work, even after numerous chats with technical support. No matter how many times I contacted Dell about this, they claimed there is only one version of Dell Webcam Center. Clearly that isn't true .....

Which version of the webcam driver allows for pan/tilt? When I first had the laptop loaded from Dell these features worked in the settings.

I formatted a few times since then and just used the Windows drivers. Now, if I move the slider nothing happens at all.

Dell :: Webcam Not Working? Studio XPS Try This FIX

Jul 25, 2009

To all of you who have had or still having problem in getting your webcam to work or get detected by your laptop try this.

Almost everyone who has formatted their hard drives and/or done a clean install of the OS has come into contact with this problem from what I have read...
Uninstall all Dell webcam software and download and install ManyCam webcam software, by all accounts the Dell webcam software is the villain here.

Once this is installed your webcam should now be detected by the system and now work. ManyCam is a freeware program I have no means of testing this due to the fact all my systems are M1330 XPS.

Dell :: Studio 15 Webcam Issue

Apr 9, 2009

This looked like a knowledgeable and friendly place to share my experiences with so I decided to join. =)

Bear with me, my laptop has quite a history for the 4 weeks I've had it. I bought this laptop from DELL outlet and I really like it. It originally had an AMD board and processor with the HD3200 graphics. To make a long story short the AMD board got too hot for my comfort so I sold it and bought an Intel board so here I am.

Onto the webcam. The first day I got the laptop the webcam worked great with the DELL Webcam Center .....

I hope this is the correct forum. I apologize in advance if I'm posting in the wrong spot or if this issue has already been addressed. However,

I have searched the forum and other spots on the internet and have had no luck with this issue.

I recently upgraded my Studio XPS 1640 to Windows 7. Everything seems to be working fine, except for my webcam. If I look at the device manager, it lists 4 highlighted areas as problematic under 'other devices":

1) Base system device
2) Base system device
3) Base system device
4) Unknown device .....

Dell :: Webcam, Bluetooth, And Overheating Issues With Studio XPS 1645

Jan 17, 2010

So my studioxps 1640 was replaced with a 1645. I was glad I got an i7 and a 1GB video card upgrade due to many other issues with the 1640, but I'm having a terrible time with the 1645.

First off, when I first used the 1645 for 15 minutes, the fan turned on full blast. I was just using firefox, so I ignored it and thought the laptop was just getting broken-in. But the heat issue appeared regularly. If I don't turn off the laptop, the whole laptop shuts down to either a bluescreen or it just powers off. Sometimes a weird clicking/crackling noise will come from the fan area near the heatsink even when the fan isn't on! It's like a bunch of metal balls are falling down a pipe.

I've left the bottom cover open to check if the heat sink was dissipating heat, but for some reason the metal area on top of the i7 was burning hot but the copper "pipes" were actually cool/cold. I'm getting a heat sink and fan replacement and I'll let you know how that works.

Next issue: webcam. On the 1640, running the webcam at 640x480 produced no lag and smooth pictures, but the 1645 constantly jitters at 640x480. Is this is a common issue?

Lastly, the bluetooth card is giving me a terrible time. I have used windows 7 x64 on the 1640 and bluetooth gave me no problems, but on the 1645 it is horrendous. I've switched bluetooth cards between the laptops so it's not a hardware issue. However, I'm trying to connect a bluetooth mouse and the card will detect a mouse, but it will never connect to it. I've tried numerous other techniques I saw on other threads. I ran the driver utility in compatibility mode, I've installed windows mobile device center, I've even formatted the hard drive. any help?

Dell :: XPS M1530 Webcam

Jan 31, 2010

My webcam wont power on, even when I open the Dell webcam console.

On other occasions, it will repeatedly turn itself on and off, with the "budup" noise, like the same noise when you connect a usb device.

It gets very irritating, and it can happen 50 times before it stops(like the other night when I was playing a game,

and was doing nothing in relation to webcams). Its as if im opening and closing the lid, but the lcd isnt effected(perhaps its the lid connection for the webcam wire, if that exists??)

I opened up the M1530, and checked the connection to the motherboard, thanks to another thread here ... M1530 webcam not working....

And the pic supplied here http://forum.notebookreview.com/atta...2&d=1223851321

That seems to be fine, and since reassembled, it wont turn on at all. That happened before I deassembled it, so its not a problem I caused, and could just start to repeatedly turn itself on and off again at any stage.

Dell :: XPS M1530 Gap Above Webcam

Mar 1, 2009

I just received my M1530 from Dell and noticed that there's a gap between the black border trimming around the webcam and the top of the lid.

If you have the laptop open like you're using, then at the top of the black trim above the screen it starts flush with the colored part on the lid of the laptop but slowly separates towards the middle (right below the silver notch to open the lid) and then goes flush again on the other side.

Is this a normal build? I can post a pic if it's not clear in the post.

I can't find it in device manager to update the driver or pretty much anything! the microphone still works perfectly, but its as if my camera ceased to exist, as if it were not at all connected to my laptop. I tried finding the driver online, but only managed to find the driver for the xps 17z, which I thought would work, but it wouldn't install as it gave me the message, you must have Windows XP SP2 or higher installed.

Dell :: Before Modding: DIY Built In Webcam

Aug 4, 2008

what I have here is an e1705 which I have been modding, externally it looks like a 1710, which one day it will be one when I can afford the prices, but what I want to do is I want to take a cheap USB webcam with a built in microphone, and build it into the bezel above the screen.

Has anyone done this before?

The only issues I'm afraid of are camera size, the rest should be fairly easy, tapping into a USB port, setting the mics and drilling holes etc.

Making room for a tiny cam will surely be the hardest part, and making room for it up there and having to cut apart at the lock system at the top to keep the screen from opening.

Luckily since I do have an XPS LCD back on this there is plleeenty of room for wires etc, the standard 1705 LCD back is nearly flush with the backlight making it hard to add any more wires, but the XPS LCD back has tons of room so i'm not worried about that, and I've opened this up enough to route wires down to one of the USB ports easily.

Dell :: M1530 Webcam Causes BSOD

Jan 19, 2010

So I've been having this m1530 since xmas of '08 and this problem has occurred since day 1. Basically, I bought this xps m1530 from the dell outlet and have loved it except for this d*** webcam. Originally had vista 32bit on it. Just upgraded to Win7 a couple days ago(loving it BTW), thinking it may solve it but nope. Everytime I try to start the webcam it sends my comp into a BSOD and then it restarts and functions as if nothing happened. No matter if I try using it through the webcam center, or on a video chatroom. I'm thinking it has to be driver related but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any idea? The Dell disasembly guide shows a short ribbon like cable going off to the right, but I find no port for it nor does the guide give more detail.
