what I have here is an e1705 which I have been modding, externally it looks like a 1710, which one day it will be one when I can afford the prices, but what I want to do is I want to take a cheap USB webcam with a built in microphone, and build it into the bezel above the screen.
Has anyone done this before?
The only issues I'm afraid of are camera size, the rest should be fairly easy, tapping into a USB port, setting the mics and drilling holes etc.
Making room for a tiny cam will surely be the hardest part, and making room for it up there and having to cut apart at the lock system at the top to keep the screen from opening.
Luckily since I do have an XPS LCD back on this there is plleeenty of room for wires etc, the standard 1705 LCD back is nearly flush with the backlight making it hard to add any more wires, but the XPS LCD back has tons of room so i'm not worried about that, and I've opened this up enough to route wires down to one of the USB ports easily.
I have Dell inspiron N411Z (2009). the webcam stoped to work after skype upgrade. I found out that windows doesn't recognize the webcam. I install the driver Creative live! 2009 or 2011. But it's useless.
i have been using my sony viao without any problems so far, and all of a sudden, my webcam is not recognized!
i tried to get it through skype, and it wouldn't work, i then went to the webcam software, and it also wouldn't work.
the error message said something like webcam not recognized, and then it said something like reinstall or might be in use with other programs. but for SURE, there is no other program running it!
i don't know how to install a webcam that is already inbuilt!
on a side, note, i also bought the really neat sony vaio mouse, the bluetooth one, and that too is not being recognized by my vaio
i am not sure if the mouse and webcam are related issues, or separte. if somebody has any idea of what i can try to do, i would REALLY REALLY REALLY appreciate it! thx, i need to connect to my family through webcam!
I just upgraded to windows 8 pro x64 on my Lenovo V570 and it can't find the driver for my built in webcam. My girlfriend is moving away for 6 months starting next week and the webcam is really important for us to stay in touch.
I just modded my quadro fx3500m into a geforce 7950gt using the rivatuner. I did this because i thought the card would perform better while playing games. However there was no improvement and some games like NfsProstreet became slower. My 3dmark06 slipped from 5867 to 5734.Has this happened to anybody else,or did i go wrong somewhere?
I'm wondering how hard it would be to add different colored LEDs under the keys. I have a feeling it wouldn't be possible to add multiple different colors, like in the speakers, so what I was thinking was simply 7 or so colors, mixed and matched under each key to look prettier
I've bought a brand new hp HDX 16 with a P8600 , reading on the HDX 16 lounge I've find the superb performance of the seagate 7200.4 500gb, and I've bought them too! But I've a question, my motherboard is a intel cantiga PM45? I can mount a intel core 2 duo quad Q9xxx series? or I can simply jump to a T9xxx series from the my P8600?
I'm working on modding the Insyde BIOS's included in most of HP's recent laptops. At the moment I have successfully patched the boot logo and ACPI tables. A number of people have mentioned they would be interested in this and in particular patching the BIOS so other PCI devices can be added. If you are interested in this and are willing to experiment (obviously there is some risk attached) please give me a pm. (Also note that the Insyde BIOS's actually have a great bad flash recovery procedure built in so in almost all cases you'll still be okay!).
EDIT: A bit more detail into how I'm doing this. There is a tool called EzH20 (official Insyde tool) that has been leaked. This showed how the BIOS's were compressed - using LZMA comression. Now we can decompress (and recompress) the BIOS. This tool also includes a feature to replace the BIOS logo. The BIOS is split into a number of modules that have unique GUID's. Unfortunatly there is no way to tell what module does what apart from that data in it (which is obviously mostly just randomness!). However there are certain things that can be patched if we know the format. Patching the white list of PCI cards for example, may be possible by searching for the device ID's and then finding which module they occur in.
What i mean by this is buying a stock low model Z (kind of like a barebone), then modifying each component by themselves. I'm looking into buying a Z690 or z790 and possibly adding my own T9900 3.06ghz intel chip and DDR3 with self selected SSD harddrive.
Do you think it's worth the time in doing this? would I actually be saving money or would it be more of a hassle?
Now with this in mind, I'm able to get a pretty high end Z series in Taiwan. VGN-Z48TD Platform Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo processor P9700 (2.80 GHz) 6gb Ram 320gb HDD $2,276 USD
By getting that model, all i have to do is upgrade to a SSD with something better.
I am having a very hard time getting Windows XP to install I have even downloaded the ata sata drivers for my hard drive! I used Nlite to mod the disk and add the drivers, I also tried loading the drivers via floppy drive and still no luck I keep getting the blue screen of death any ideas? Also I need to know how to fix the settings so I can install MAC OS Snow Leopard on it! I am currently running Bios That was just updated on April 19, 2010 !
A few days before I was going to shipping my Studio 15 off. I looked in the box and low and behold I found the Dell Webcam Center disk that I originally thought that Dell had forgotten to include.
Upon installation I found that the specific version of Dell WC that came with my Studio 15 is not the same one that you find at the downloads center on support.dell.com.
I could never get the downloaded Dell WC to work, even after numerous chats with technical support. No matter how many times I contacted Dell about this, they claimed there is only one version of Dell Webcam Center. Clearly that isn't true .....
I really want to see if I can exercise the "lemon law" on my computer or just to see if the XPS M1530 is just a poorly built machine.
This will be the 5th time I have to get Dell to come over to fix a problem. 2 times for the hinge snapping, one time I dropped it off of my bed, which is a foot high, and the hinges snapped off again.
Then another time because the guy who came to fix my screen broke the motherboard. Also, now my computer doesn't charge when plugged in. All it says is "plugged in, but not charging"...
Im having a problem trying to get my built in mic working. I have a new Studio 17 with the Creative Sound enhancement option, not the sound card just the Creative Audigy software.
when I try to record voice, I can barely hear my voice over the noise which sounds like a mixture of static, and buzzing mixed in. However, I can play mp3's perfectly with no hiss or static. So the playback is working fine.
When I plugged an external mic in the static is gone. I'd like to be able to use the built in mic when possible so I dont have to take the external one along with me.
I noticed on my system that I have an IDT High Definition sound package, as well as the Creative Audigy sound enhancing software with mixer console, including EAX special effects, etc, to enhance the sound.
Anyone know what could be causing the noise on the mic? I've searched the forum and cant find a problem identical to this so Im sorry if theres a post that explains how to fix this, I cant find it.
I can adjust my sound with both the IDT HD mixer console, and the Creative Audigy sound mixer as well. But I cannot eliminate or find the cause of this static.
I got a newer Sigmatel Audio driver but that didnt elminate the problem so I set the system back to the way I got it.
I thought about buying the X fi Xtreme sound card as I do a lot of karaoke singing and need to have the music mixed with voice so I can record it but this static problem has me baffled. And they want $80 for that little sound card. I could ignore it but the laptop is brand new and it should be static free. I eliminated ac hum as the source by unplugging the ac adapter and ran on battery alone, and static was the same it made no difference.
Yes that is correct - if you have the Dell wireless 5530 HSPA mobile broadband mini card you also have a built in GPS.
Pic attached showing the Dell mini driver and the wireless app running, have tested with mapsphere and all worked fine tracked me without any problems.
The above series of processors apparently have an "Overdrive" mode at that will allow the cores to jump to 2.4ghz from their normal working clock speed of 1.8ghz. However, there seems to be no way to use it or access it. The clock speed will not move above 1.8ghz no matter how much demand I put on the system. There are no obvious (or unobvious) BIOS settings that even reference AMD Overdrive. I'd like to be able to utilize the extra power, but I can't seem to find it. I'm running Linux on this machine, though I assumed that Overdrive would have been handled at the BIOS level.
My Dell Inspiron 15 (7537) simply does not recognize the built in touchpad for a couple of days now.
I did run all the tests even the ePSA test and all passed with OK, but never the less there are not tests for the touchpad.
If I unplug the external mouse the mouse pointer dissapears, as a sign that there is no device present.(I tried to install and reinstall the synaptics drivers - Input_Driver_15K08_WN_17.0.13.51_A02 ) but no luck at all.
Furthermore, I tried to boot the system using the windows 7 and 8 installation media, as well as Linux Mint, but there is no mouse pointer unless I plug in an external mouse.
It seams to me that the hardware is faulty.
I still have 1 more month left from the standard warranty, what should I do ?
when 3G for the Acer Aspire One is finally offered, new models, of course, will have 3G capability built in. Does anybody have a guess as to what kind of modification or accessory we will be able to use to get 3G on existing AAOs.
I would rather not have to go the route of the ATT USB DataConnect thingy, but will if I have to.
have found the keyboard on its own for a bargain price, however it does not come with the USB bluetooth adaptor, just the keyboard on its own.
My question is will the keyboard (and the mouse if I ever buy it seperately) work with my Studio 15's built in bluetooth?
I have googled for ages on this but can't get a definitive answer. There have been mentions of 'no' some people say yes but you have to change the bluetooth stack e.t.c.
I have a Dell XPS PP09L laptop and Windows XP needs a driver for the built-in network controller and when I do a search for it on the dell website nothing comes up. I even googled it and the links that came up led me to a no results page on Dell. What is the model of the network controller that's in this model and where I can get a driver for it?
Not sure how to check / fault find the built-in Bluetooth on my Studio 1558. I installed a Logitech Bluetooth mouse on it about two months ago, and mostly it works well. But this afternoon there is suddenly no response to the mouse. (It worked this morning.) It seems that the laptop's Bluetooth has disconnected for some reason - doing a Bluetooth search with my cellphone picks up the mouse but not the laptop. I've put new batteries in the mouse, made sure it's switched on, clicked it's Connect switch. I also rebooted the computer. I've tried the F2 comms on/off function key. None of this worked. The built-in broadband comms is working fine.
I thought it would be a good idea to flash the BIOS (latest version A24) before reinstalling Windows, but after doing that and installing Windows the on board mic isn't detected anymore! headphone jack, built-in speaker, work but the mic doesn't work. it worked right before doing the BIOS flash.
to remedy this I reset BIOS settings to Default, enabled and disabled Mic in BIOS settings, installed Dell Audio drivers instead of generic Windows drivers. nothing works.  in fact in BIOS diagnostic tests says Webcam/mic board not detected.
I was testing out my microphone and I noticed that the sound is really staticy. I figure its some electrcal interference coming from somewhere. I muted every other sound input and changed physical locations. But the recordings I make sound like old staticy records.
I also turned down the record level down to 40 and boost level of the mic to 0dB but it will won't go away.
