I just ordered a XPS 1340 fully loaded P9600/LED/4GB/Nvidia 256/256GB SSD/BT option.
I used my Dell credit card (logon to Dell.com/DPA5PERCENT)(evalue code 6M278-DYPDFP1)to get 5% plus a $150 gift card.
I started with a chat then they called me. After humming and hawing the rep was unable to to a better deal than my saved cart. I said thanks anyway but its out of my budget.
Is it true that XPS 1340 has a lot of problems? I was thinking about buying x1340 but many people including this forum are complaining about heat problems, fan noise and other hardware failures
well i have a dell latitude e6400 from the outlet and all of a sudden a ton of xps 1340s came in stock and i got a good one and im debating on whether i should keep i buy it or not and return my e6400.
so i was wondering how do u guys like it? how long does the 6 cell last and does it overheat alot? and do u personally think its durable and will last as long as my e6400?
I just talked to dell via a chat and they said that I cannot upgrade to anymore then 4GB of ram which I currently have. I looked at the specs on the build site and the Ram are all SDRAM at the same 1067 MHz. Am I missing something?
I just bought this new laptop and it froze on me during inital set up and dell had to reimage it on the phone with me. Now that I have it where I can use the machine after about an hour of web surfing it seems like the bottom is pretty hot and near the vent is so hot you could not hold your hand there. I was thinking of calling dell back and talking to them about it. Are other people experiencing a lot of heat with this computer?
I own a studio xps1340 with intel (p8600) 2.4 core 2 duo.
I want to upgrade my processor but i dont know if there are any faster than p9700 (2.8).... Whats the fastes processor with most cache available for xps 1340 motherboard?
I see the 1640 models have option for T9900 (3.0ghz) will this one fit my motherboard sockets or not?
I have an XPS 1340 on order, with the g210m graphics card. I have been reading about this computer, and while performance seems good,
I am starting to freak out a little bit about the heat issues people are reporting, even recently and with the new g201m.
I owned a laptop once with heat issues, and I don't want to go back to the bad old days of lockups and crashes related to heat.
I am thinking of canceling my order (or returning it if I can't), and getting the Vaio SR with the HD4570 graphics card.
What do people think of this as an alternative?
I lose the backlit keyboard and small amount of potential graphics performance, but also lose heat issues, fan noise, and potential problems related to the SLI configuration.
I think I have decided to purchase a Dell Studio XPS 1340, as I require a new laptop before the end of June and I'm not sure anything better in this class will be available before then.
I will be using it for a bit of everything, including work, portability, hooking it up for presentations, general surfing on the couch and some minor game playing. I have a few questions about purchasing it.
1. CPU. At the moment both the P9500 (2.53GHz) and the P9600 (2.66GHz) cost an extra $388.30. Shouldn't the P9600 cost more than the P9500? Am I missing something here?
2. Screen. I get a lot of glare on my current laptop at work. Does the XPS 1340 have a glossy or matte screen? Does choosing WLED or CCFL have any effect on this?
3. Deals. There is currently a $150 cash off deal which ends tomorrow (Thursday). This seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Should I take this or is there a high likelihood a better deal will be available soon? I will also be using the EPP code as I'm a full-time student.
Are there any other coupons I could use? In addition to being a full-time student, I am also a small business owner (strange combo I know), and have bought Dell desktops for employees in the past. Would I be able to get a better deal going through a small business sales channel .....
I have read threads about Skype and windows 7, Skype and Dell XPS 1640and IDT codec sound drivers having issues.
I have an XPS 1340 with IDT for sound software, I have had my machine running good for about a month now, after I did a complete system restore 3 times.
So, I was wondering can anyone recommend a Skype version that is pretty friendly with the XPS 1340. or can I use the IDT drivers for the 1640 that I read about working with Skype
Recently I bought a Dell xps 13 1340 with p8600 and a 9500GE.
I viewed all the discussions about it and I know it has a heating problem, even thou I decided to buy it - once I saw it I just couldnt look at anything else...
Anyway Im running it with the A07 bios and all new drivers from dell's website.
When Im running it on heavy load like a game the 9400 GPU reaches to 86c.
I have a new XPS 1340, That seems to be having issues with starting up in the wee hours. Monday morning 4:30am I woke up for work, looked over at the Laptop sitting on the desk and the side hinge lights were on.opened screen and saw the login page. I always shut my computer down completely I don't use the hibernate feature.
Several Times last week I noticed when I came home from work and powered up the laptop instead of "starting Windows" it said "resuming Windows". I really don't know if this just started or has been this way since day one. I do know that the battery level always indicates 100% when I shut down and when I start up it's down to about 92% from just sitting turned off? Again I don't use hibernate I "Shut down". using windows 7.
Are their scheduled tasks that can start my machine I have noticed about 34 scheduled tasks in the scheduler can't quite undertsand why so many tasks come pre loaded. Anyway, most have never executed can I just delete them?any help, suggestions, greatly appreciated.
Spent the past 45 min trying to talk to Dell, been on hold guess lunch time is a bad idea.
Could I have a Progrram that is trying to "auto run once" ?
The 1640/45/47 owners and the m1330 owners have their respective replacements threads. There has also been a concern about getting Alienware instead of XPS thread. So I created this thread because the Studio XPS 1340 has reached EOL and is no longer offered as a replacement. Thus, I would like 1340 owners' help in tracking and monitoring replacements.
Please specify experiences regarding:What are the specs of your current XPS 1340?What system was received in lieu of the SXPS 1340? Specs? New or Refurb? At what point were you aware of the system you were going to receive? How long did the systems' exchange process take?Did you attempt escalation or any form of negotiation? Are you happy with your replacement? .........
In the process of trying different nVidia GPU drivers I inadvertently uninstalled a bunch of other nVidia drivers from my SXPS 1340 . Managed to reinstall most of them, but I keep on getting an error looking for drivers for the SM Bus controller. Now all the advice on t'internet is that this is part of the chipset drivers, which I have reinstalled a number of times- all the other devices are fine now, but the SM Bus controller is still flagged up in the device manager.
I'm having troubles with windows 7 (build 7100 64 bits) and xps 1340. All Vista (64 bits) driver seems to work fine until the notebook wakes up from the sleep or hibernate mode. The Ethernet will not recover at all.
In the Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork Connections the Ethernet will display cable unplugged even thought the cable is plugged. It will start functioning correctly after restart. It does indeed bothers me as if i close the notebook it will go to the sleep mode then I open it and the Ethernet connection is lost !
Also I can't get the inbuilt infra-red working. I have installed the driver but can find any software to use it with!
I am going to Wales in about two weeks for university and i am looking for the AC unit for the 1340 Can any 1340 UK users please tell me which model their power brick is? or where i can buy them. In Canada we have best buy and etc. What type of big box stores sells dell accessories in the UK.
I've got a new power adapter which is 65w. When I plugged it a warning message popped up saying Im using a 65w adapter and my system will operate slower and that my battery will take longer to charge.
The part with the battery taking longer to charge I get but does my system will really work slower ?
I am trying to decide between XPS 1330 and Studio XPS 1340. So far, the differences are - * Better video card in 1340 (256 vs 128), *
Bigger hard drive in 1330 (500 Gb w/free fall sensor vs 320 Gb), * WLED display in 1330 vs CCFL backlit display in 1340, * Backlit keyboard in 1340. The price for both are pretty same.
I have been waiting around for the release of all these new notebooks but I find that this is more within my price range while having solid specs.
I would plan on this build:P8800 (2.66ghz)4gb ddr3500gb hdd (maybe 128 ssd)210m gs
For you owners out there: Are still any problems with heat or anything after the bios update? What battery life should I expect with the 6 cell? or the 9 cell?Is the P9600 worth the extra $150?Does the leather accent wear easily?
Am I better off with just standard glossy?Any other concerns? or reasons I should or should not get this?
