View 3 RepliesI remember reading a thread similar to this a while back but am unable to find it. The fellow had his laptop replaced several times due to the media buttons being too dim when pressed.
I am having the same problem. How bright are your media buttons when you press them? I can barely see them unless I'm right on top of them purposely trying to see what I've pressed.
Is there any way to adjust the brightness of these or am I out of luck? I'm not really in the mood to have the laptop replaced as university classes are about to start back up and I can't be without it.
I have had the laptop for three months.Every time it boots up it I get the message: checking media/media fail.
It then goes to a blue screen with error code 0xc0000001. I ran diagnostics and got the message error code 2000-0145 validation 100079.
This just recently started happening on my 3 month old inspiron 15r 7520.
It doesn't do much other then add another 2-3 minutes to boot up.
Once PC starts up (which takes a long time) it works like normal.
I've had my studio xps 16 for 4-5 months now.. never had a serious problem with everything is working the way i want it to but..
this morning when i woke up i turn on music.. while increasing the volume i noticed the touch sensitive LED above the keyboard wasnt working..
I have an Inspiron 5520 with Win 8 and for the last few days every time the system boots up I get the following message: "checking media (fail)". The message appears twice then the system boots normally. All the programs/apps work fine. The only "media" program I used was Windows Movie Maker and it works just fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can still change the volume, but that little graphic that pops up when you turn it up/down is no longer there, making it hard for me to see what the volume is.
Second, and more importantly, the "eject" button no longer works. I have to manually goto the disk drive, right click, and click eject............
is there a way to get them to do the exact opposite...instead of being off and lighting up when you touch can they be lit up and then go dark when you touch?....what would be really nice is if you could make them light up when you light your keyboard up and not light up when your keyboard isnt lit....

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Dell Studio 15 (1535) for nearly a year now, problem free. But last night, my touchpad moving extremely choppy,
and my CPU/RAM meters (on Vista) were at nearly 50%, sometimes even spiking higher; I've never seen them that high before.
Here's what was going on when it happened. I was using Facebook Chat, which I don't believe was the problem, but what I believe started it was when i tried to turn up the volume using the touch sensitive media keys at the top, and hit play on iTunes. When i went to turn the volume up,
it froze for about 30 seconds, and then turned the volume all the way up, and now none of my media keys work, my keyboard barely works, and my touchpad/mouse buttons don't work at all!
I opened up iTunes today and while you are inside it, the touch buttons at the top of the Studio XPS 16 work fine but if you are in firefox, desktop or anywhere else they do not seem to control the music at all? Is there a way to fix this?

So I was powering on my laptop just a few minutes ago, and during boot, the progress bar was going slower than usual and stopped at one point, about 3/4 of the way through. So, I wondered what was going on, and tapped the media buttons to see if the whole thing was locked up, and they all lit up.
However, they never actually turned off. Now, I'm booted into Windows and everything's working normally, but the buttons are still lit! And the best part is, they function like normal when pressed!
I wish there were a way to set this up to work like that all the time...the buttons are impossible to see in the dark.
Here's a pic. Sorry for the cell phone camera quality, but you can still see that all the buttons are lit up, along with the Wifi light on the far right:
So, does anyone know of a way I can get it to do this every time without an unusually slow boot?
With my recent acquisition of a Studio XPS 16, I am selling my Inspiron 1720 to a friend of mine (yep he's getting a good deal and I am throwing in 200 or 300 bucks worth of stuff to boot because he's a good guy),
but I've noticed that my play and volume up media direct buttons tend to stick as if they've got some buildup behind them.
I hardly ever eat when using my laptop and I've never spilled anything on it so I'm guessing it's just normal buildup gunk but I'd rather take it apart and clean it to give it to him as clean as possible, if it's a relatively easy task.
I can't find the driver for the media buttons on the front of the Inspiron 6000 notebook. I know the buttons work, but I need the software / driver for them.
Also can't find it on the dell.com drivers page (well at least, none of the descriptions match; I may be wrong).
The touch sensitive media buttons above the keyboard on my Studio XPS 1647 stopped working the other day. When I tried to turn my laptop back on the computer beeped a few times and the screen flashed a few solid colors and then went black. I had to turn the laptop off and on again and it booted as normal except the media buttons stopped working. They do not light up or respond to touch.
I have restarted the laptop, updated the Dell QuickSet drivers and the BIOS and nothing has fixed it. According to this post the media buttons need to be replaced. How can I do that and where can I buy the parts needed?
just got my Studio's palm rest replaced today since the touchpad freaked out after I accidentally spilled water on it, thank God for complete warranty.
However, the replacement palm rest seems to have the pattern on which came with my old Studio, the graphite pattern. Here are some before and after pics, and some pics showing what happens when the media panel does the all buttons stay lit glitch.
This an example of the later palm rests. However, I had this on my Studio before the palm rest change because I received a replacement which had the newer palm rest. So, this is the before picture .....
I have the Dell Studio 1537 and I have two issues :
1. Since I bought the laptop, the media (light) buttons aren't functioning properly. The media player-button isn't working at all, and after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 only the Eject-button does work. Earlier I tried some Registry tweaks, but they did not do the job..
2. The scroll line on the touch pad doesn't work, even when the driver for it is installed properly. How I can bring it to usefulness again?
I recently upgraded my Dell Inspiron 5520 to Windows 8 and now the media buttons don't work. Is there a Dell driver or update that I need to install to bring back this functionality in Windows 8?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone experience this issue? I just woke my laptop up from sleep and noticed the quickset buttons are stuck. The STOP (SQUARE) key is brighter lit than all the other keys and none of the touch sensitive buttons work.

Few days ago I've installed Xubuntu on my Acer Aspire 5920G notebook. I saw that blue media buttons (these on the right side of the keyboard) started to work as a mouse wheel. Using 'play/pause' with 'stop' I can scroll vertically, and using 'next' with 'prev' I can scroll horizontally. It's quite annoying, because I often use them accidentally. When I was using Windows, there wasn't any problem (buttons didn't worked). Is there any method to disable them (like in Windows)?

I installed retail Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on Studio 1537 (the one in the signature) So far whatever I have tested, except the touch buttons, everything works.
I wonder if anyone knows how to get those touch buttons working.
I have a question, isn't there a possibility to change the way how volume increases and decreases. If i press volume button once, then volume increases only 2 points, till 100.
