Dell :: XPS M1730 LightFX And Windows 7
Although I doubt many people use it, I still find myself attracted to the LightFX plugin when playing music. It makes things more entertaining =-P
My issue is that in Windows 7 when I use LightFX Plugin 1 or 2, the lights simply 'flicker' really weakly. They don't change color or anything. LightFx3 works fine.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and has been able to fix it? Does anyone know where maybe an updated version of LightFX is available? (it's nightmare to track down!)

Every time I turn on LightFX in media player it sounds all distorted. I heard that this was a problem in previous models, but I am unsure if it affects the 1730 as well.
Dell :: XPS M1730- After A Windows Update (Vista), My Screen Blacked Out And The Resolution Changed
Relatively soon after a Windows Update (Vista), my screen blacked out and the resolution changed from 1920x1200 to something like 800x600. After restarting the notebook, everything seemed to be back to normal, except my graphics card (GeForce 8800M GTX x 2) wasn't working, and upon looking in the device manager, it said the device wasn't working (code 43).
So, I tried uninstalling drivers/reinstalling drivers, etc. and nothing seemed to work. And now something I've done has made the main VGA drivers or whatever not work, and all I see is a big black screen on startup (but the mouse icon is on the screen and can move around).
Dell :: M1730 And Windows 7
the only thing i wanted to ask was what drivers should i be installing? i dont want anything to conflict since 7 isnt entirely supported yet. right now i just installed the touchpad pointer and nvidia drivers for windows 7 from nvidia's website.
the real thing i want to install is quickset, but i feel this particular piece of software would conflict the most.
Dell :: Windows 7 On The M1730
I'm about to pick up the XPS M1730, maxxed out on pretty much everything. Now I was considering throwing the Windows 7 beta on there, but I haven't really found anything saying if there are any problems with doing that, driver conflicts, software conflicts, that kind of thing.

I Downloaded Intel SATA RAID drivers from support.dell.com. Trying to install them from a floppy during Windows XP install but get a BSOD every time its trying to load the driver
If anyone was successful in installing Windows XP on M1730 (with RAID 0)
Dell :: Re-install Windows Properly On My M1730
Ive basically just bought an M1730 so its a machine i`m not familiar with, i noticed that no details were appearing in the small LCD window in the top right so i referred to the manual,
it said you go to Logitech in the start menu to change the settings. Now this is where the fun started, i had no Logitech option on my start menu, it simply wasn`t their.
I bought my laptop from a Dell Outlet reseller, seeing as i had the back up disc for windows vista and the Dell drivers disc i thought i would do a full install of windows as something was obviously missing, normally re-installing windows is straight forward.
Now i don`t know how i managed this, after re-installing windows my laptop starts in the normal way with the Dell logo appearing but i then get a black boot up screen which gives me 2 boot options and they are both labelled Microsoft windows vista, so basically i have 2 choices of the same thing to boot up.
I think i have somehow installed windows vista onto 2 hard drives, my laptop has 2 x 200GB drives.
With laptops ive had in the past re-installing the operating system has been easy, its basically put the disc in and it walks you through it, this wasn`t straight forward .....

Dell :: Replace M1730 For XPS 16
My laptop is still having heat issues and they told me I could exchange the M1730 for a new XPS 16 with the 4670 and 1080P screen... I asked about the M17x and he says they cannot switch brands (LIE!) So should I take this or push for a M17x?

Dell :: XPS M1730 Heatup
I could have more control over the Grx card fans , they are very frustrating , sometimes they simply seem to cut in when the cards reach about 73 degress cool it down to 58 degrees or so and then shut off , so the temp slowy builds back up to 73+ again and so the cycle goes round
Other times they seem to cut in, then bring the the temp down and then slowly idle keeping the temp at a constant 50-60 degrees , what gives!
What I would like to to set a much lower cut in temp so that the cycle is not to extreme or set the fans to run at a min low speed all the time and only increasing when the demand on the cards grows
Dell :: XPS M1730 Driver
I just reformatted my computer because after a year of internet browsing and downloading a bunch of games my computer wasn't preforming like it used to...
with that being said, I've been having some problems with reinstalling my drivers.
My Nvidia GeForce 9800m GT video card is being picked up by the computer but is encountering (error 43).
The other day, one of the video cards was working and the other had this error (error 43), now, since I've tried to reinstall the drivers both are not working. When the one was working I had downloaded the driver directly from the Dell.com website. I downloaded the drivers (that are currently not working) here [url] under The "Best" Drivers For Your Laptop. The two files under Windows Vista-32bit (my os) won't extract saying that no hardware was found that was compatible for that driver.
My Computer Specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.50GHz 2.50GHz
System Type: 32-bit Operating System

Dell :: My New XPS Toy... M1730
I used to have an Inspiron 9400 which I modded into an M1710, which is in this photo forum. I eventually managed to get some funding and bought the M1730 about 4 months ago and love it. Heres a basic photo of my setup:

I was worried this would be a slow processor but it's great does all my photo work and web design work with ease, and it's great for games ! Fantastic machine, love the light up keyboard.
In the photo it's sitting on an akasa 17" notebook cooler to help keep the temps happy.
I'll try and take some more photos of it at some point.
Dell :: XPS M1730 With The 8700m Card
I am looking at getting a Dell XPS m1730.
If I get it with the 8700m card, can I eventually swap the card out for an 8800m gtx? or are they not swapable?
Also, could I get the single card, then eventually put in an sli co0nfig?
Or if I get the SLI 8700s, can I put a gtx in?
Dell :: XPS M1730 Vista Reinstall
Today I will get my XPS M1730 (warranty replacement for my Gen2). I'll get it with Vista Home Premium 32bit and I have a few questions.
1. Is the installation by dell "bloated" with unnecessary stuff?
2. If it is, I plan to reinstall Vista with a retail Ultimate DVD my friend has bought. Can I use the serial on the backside of my computer for this installation to get a clean Home Premium installation?
3. Will I need to activate afterwards, like call MS or something...........
Dell :: One GPU Disappeared? (XPS M1730)
One of my GPUs is gone - my Windows 7 only sees on 8800M GTX (I have 8800M GTX in SLI). It has been gone since I applied an SLI patch from EVGA. My idle temperature for the GPU is about 75 degree celsius...
Do you guys know what is wrong with it?
The laptop's warranty expired about 3 months ago.
Dell :: XPS M1730 3dMark06 Scores
Here is my latest score. This score is different from my first as my first run involved me goofin up driver crap and not having physics card installed.... Not that the card matter, but the scores are different.
My first test was 6506 (sorry I dont have a pic)
Here is my score with plain dell drivers, no overclock, just plain old sli 8700's...
Theres not a doubt in my mind with different drivers and over clock ability, that the 8700m GT sli is not a bad vid card.... People have been stating theyve got pretty good game performace... Best part is, the upgrade for the 1730 can only get better! ehehe
I must be dumb, but if anyone comes across other 8700m GT drivers that can do SLi, I would really like to try them
Dell :: XPS M1730 Warranty Scam?
It's been a while since I last posted on these forums - simply because I haven't had any issues in a while. However, my 'R' key broke off my keyboard, which as you can guess is VERY annoying.
I extended my warranty for 3 years - £160, assuming everything was covered. I called up Dell, after waiting 20 minutes on hold in their 'Premium Warranty' Queue, I got through. After reciting my service tag I was told that my warranty had expired.
I told them my order number, and after another five minutes on hold they finally pulled it up. They then told me my battery and keyboard weren't covered by my warranty - it was only covered for my first year.
I was lead to believe that the warranty I was purchasing was exactly what I had last year - which clearly it isn't. Also, here is a quote from the email that the representative sent me to try and get me to buy the warranty .....
Dell :: XPS M1730 Overheating Fix
My XPS M1730 (Core2 Extreme, 8800M GTX SLI) started overheating about a year ago, especially if playing a game. I noticed that the air coming out if the back of the unit was getting extremely hot and it would lock up if I played certain games.
I ended up disassembling it ( **XPS M1730 Disassembly Guide** ) and found that the heat exchanger fins were completely clogged with lint.
I cleaned the layer of lint and dust off of them (it was like a layer of thin gray felt) and the laptop worked fine again. Since then I clean them every six months.
I just did it today and figured I'd post some pics of the fins after six months of use. At this point the laptop still works fine, but the air coming out of the back of it is noticeably hotter than it is with clean/clear fins, especially if playing games .....
Dell :: XPS M1730 Video Card
Both m8800gtx have an error code 43 in hardware device manager (vista32).
Well, here is what is going on. I have an m1730 that has been working A1 since I got until yesterday when I installed CoD:WaW.
It might be just a coincidence though because the game was playing good for a while until I got kicked out of the game and when I tried to launch the game again it said I had a DirectX corruption. So I took a look at directx diag and saw no problem, except for video card info showed nothing!
This is where I decided to look in hardware manager and saw the dreaded exclamation point (error 43) for both my cards.
I did a full video driver uninstall, then did a driversweeper and took out all nvidia stuff and tried to install my drivers again and still get the same error!
Are my video cards messed up? I will be attempting a clean install on another spare drive today to see if it really a driver/software conflict.
Dell :: Xps M1730 Bsod On Startup
I have had my xps now for almost 2 years without a single issue, other than software screwups here and there. Now without any indication I am having a problem with my xps. After POST I get the awesome blue screen stating the usual run CHKDSK blah blah and this little gem:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xBACCB524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I restarted and ran the full diagnostic suite, passed everything just fine. I then checked the HDD by pulling it and putting it in a spare D830. It started up fine. I even put the D830 HDD in the xps to see if anything different would happen; same error.
I took it all apart to check dust and connections, everything looks great.
Dell :: Xps M1730 Game Panel
I reinstalled windows xp on the m1730 system, the game panel (this is the little lcd panel above the keyboard on the right side) worked for a bit and now doesn't come on, I have downloaded and installed all the drivers from the dell website but it still doesn't work,
