Apr 1, 2009the m1730 has a slot for the turbo memory under the keyboard correct? if it does, would the 4gb turbo memory work with the m1730,
or is it limited to only 1gb? will the m1730 read this as having 8gb memory? will i see a difference in performance gains,
boot time and loading applications like Adobe Cs4? i have 4gb ram installed right now with raid 0 200gb HD.

Jan 2, 2010Has anyone tried this or even thought to try this? I want to know if besides differing capacities if there are different speeds/classes of the device that are faster than others. Is NAND flash super fast, or just USB drive fast? There's that extra internal WWAN slot that I wouldn't mind filling up with this stuff once I find out the details.

Acer :: Intel Turbo Memory Adapters For My 5920g- Will Any Work
May 5, 2010I have the blu-ray 5920g with bluetooth and a 8600, but no turboboost.
Not that its a massively great feature, but I'm guessing my motherboard has an empty spot where the turboost should be? and while these adapters are floating around I'd like to chuck one in there.
What is compatible withe the 5290g. I know turboboost never really took of, so was there only one type? or am I limited to the specific tuboboost adapter from another 5920g, or can I put in others?
Also how would it interact with readyboost and ram in 32bit and 64 bit OSes?
For example You can't go past 4GB of readyboost in 32 bit, even if your system ram is 1gb or 4gb, the max is always 4gb.
With 4gb of ram and 4gb of readboost will you still be able to use a further 2gb of turbooost in a 32 bit OS? Or are readyboost and turboost seen as the same as far as the OS is concerned, thus you will eiether have to use 2gb of readboosy and 2gb of turboost or 4gb of readyboost and no turboboost.

Dec 16, 2009So I just got my replacement XPS M1640, and luckily enough, the WWAN card slot can be used also for my 1GB 1st gen Turbo Memory card from my M1530. However, upon installing the latest drivers from Intel's website, the Turbo Memory Console indicates that only ReadyDrive is enabled, and that ReadyBoost is disabled. Is there any way to fix this? I know that Turbo Memory is always finicky, as I've dealt with it on my m1530 (but both have been enabled), so when on the 1640 I click the check box to enable it, then restart, it is still disabled, even if I wait 10 minutes in the hopes that it enables after a few minutes of logging in... ?

Aug 17, 2013My HP Envy 15-3040nr has an Intel i7-2670QM processor, which works with Turbo Boost just fine. My laptop goes to a maximum of 3.0 GHz when under full load (I render heavy gameplay videos), and underclocks just fine when in energy saver mode.
However, I want to know if it is possible to LOCK the processor's clock rate at a consistently high rate, say, something like 2.9 (or an unrealistic 3.1 GHz, the rated turbo high) GHz, assuming that heat is not an issue (yes, it obviously will be an issue, but let's just say it isn't).

Oct 4, 2009I'm just looking for information / opinions on how to get the best deal for an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.
I purchased my Dell Latitude E6500 direct from Dell USA Small Business on 2008-11-04, and shipped on 2008-11-21. It was pre-installed with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've seen that systems purchased more recently (~June or July) qualify for a free upgrade from Vista to 7. I'm guessing there is nothing to qualify me for such a free upgrade, but considering that I haven't even had this system for a year yet, should there be any other upgrade discounts or specials available - either through Dell, directly from Microsoft, etc.?
Especially with the scores of users who claim that Windows 7 is really just another service pack to Vista, and with Apple offering their latest OS upgrade for a mere $29, I would certainly hope I'm not looking to pay the $219.99 as listed at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/default.aspx - the same price as if I had never purchased Vista and upgraded a 7-year-old XP installation instead.

Sep 14, 2009Relatively soon after a Windows Update (Vista), my screen blacked out and the resolution changed from 1920x1200 to something like 800x600. After restarting the notebook, everything seemed to be back to normal, except my graphics card (GeForce 8800M GTX x 2) wasn't working, and upon looking in the device manager, it said the device wasn't working (code 43).
So, I tried uninstalling drivers/reinstalling drivers, etc. and nothing seemed to work. And now something I've done has made the main VGA drivers or whatever not work, and all I see is a big black screen on startup (but the mouse icon is on the screen and can move around).

Feb 22, 2013My xps was having start-up issues and when trying to run the Vista Start-up Repair disk I received an error:
'The instruction at 0x7336e159 referenced memory at 0x00000076. The memory could not be read. Press CANCEL to terminate the program'.
Then at re-boot I accessed the boot menu and ran a PSA Diagnostic and received the following error code while scanning the processor memory:
' ERROR CODE: 0142 MSG: Error 2000-0142 MSG: Hard Drive 1-Self Test unsuccessful STATUS: 79'.
I have installation disks as follows:
Dell Drivers and Utilities for XPS M1530, Dell Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT Reinstallation DVD, Dell Media Direct 3.5 for XPS Reinstallation Disk.
What can I do?

Nov 27, 2008I was wondering if anyone had tried putting those G-Skill 4GB memory chips onto a Dell m1730 laptop, and if so, did they notice any major performance gains in doing so.
I use a few simulators at home, especially a Cisco sim called Dynamips which is both a CPU and memory hog, and I also use VMWARE a bit, so I thought I'd see if it's worth the upgrade to 8 GBs of RAM.
Any comments on stability, usefulness, experiences in Vista, etc. getting the system to recognize the full 8 GBs of RAM, etc.

Feb 5, 2010I just bought 2x2GB (DDR2 667MHz) of memory for my VGN-C1Z laptop (unfortunately I did not check before if 2X2GB was supported). Now, as far as I understood the Intel 945PM should support this, but the laptop in itself was said to be 2GB limited.
Using Windows XPPsp3 with those 2X2GB success to boot but at the end I got black screen (I see the Windows logo and progression bar, it stops displaying some sec before the startup sound), then I success to remotely connect to the laptop through VNC, here I can see that Windows is reporting 3GB which looks "normal", and under driver tab I can see in system area a warning under the line "Mobile Interl(R) 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and Intel 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port - 27A1" saying "This device cannot find enough free ressource to work properly (Code 12). If you want to use it you need to unactivate one of the other system device" [message was in French, this is my translation], the version of the pilote is 7.1.0.1015. I'm using BIOS version R0035J4, in the BIOS only 3GB are reported. Running Everest I saw that PAE is supported and activated, and the memory is detected, you can see here the Everest report: [url]
If I boot with 1x2GB it's ok (so the mem slot works ok against 2GB). If I boot with 1x2GB + 1x512Mo, it's ok too, so It's above the 2GB limit announced.
I tried to change the video driver, and also switch to VGA with same black screen of course.
So... what can I do next to try to have 2x2GB working (even if only 3GB are available) ? Does it looks a driver/Windows issue ?

Oct 13, 2008A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?

Is there any limit to the storage capacity size of a notebook drive I can install? I typically use the Seagate Momentus 7200 drives on laptops.

I finally fired up my computer, and instead of Vista it installed XP. In the box is a Operating System CD for WinXP Professonal as well and a Application and driver recovery DVD for WinXP. That should be the right CDs and only the OS on the computer is wrong. There's a Vista sticker on it, mind.
And no spamware? I got a trialversion of Office 2007 that I need to kick off again and the installation created a tiny 1GB partition which only holds some HP tools. Convenient. And the IE contains a spambar with google search, lots of AOL and some HP stuff.
Now I feel slightly annoyed that they added a UK plug to the parcel and not a European one eventhough I will need it anyway soon and for a longer time. Or maybe that is standard when asking for a UK keyboard and English windows?
