Where i'll find the drivers.

But in this case i dont know how to install xp. and my next question is that can i play cd in DVD-Dual double layer.
I got my laptop but did not do a clean install. I just removed all the bloatware I could think of. Is there a guide to do just that though, get rid of all the stuff that shouldn't be there so that you essentially have a clean install without all the bloat or footprints of it?

I bought a XPS M1330 iwth Vista Home Premium Bios A07 in January 2008.
April 2008 I tried to install updates and it messed up my Microsoft Office 2007 so I got it back working and did not mess with anymore updates.
Around June 2008 I started having the notorious battery issues. The battery ran down while I was on it and the battery has never worked since. At first it said connected,
but not charging but then it eventually died while I was trying to fix the problem and now it says battery not detected and it says the ac adapter is not recognized (I have the original AC adapter sent with the computer) .....
So i have this XPS 1530 system, i have been using ubuntu for a while, but just craped out yesterday..
I thinking if i should wait and install debian 5.0 go back to ubuntu...
Whats the best os besides windows that will use the power of the xps system to the limits "_" and make it work like an xps
I've seen the recent commotion about the 9-cell battery missing from the m1530 configuration page. Just today, as I was looking at the m1530 again, I noticed that I could not get WUXGA on any of the configurations. I know that these may both simply be coincidences as the parts are out of stock, but do you think this is part of the slow death of the m1530, meaning that the XPS 1540 is coming soon?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Vostro 1540 , which I turn off every night - NOT standby or hibernate -- boots up at exactly 14:10pm every day.
If the power supply is not connected it doesn't --- that is until I plug the power supply in at anytime past 14:10pm then it boots up without touching the power button.
The bios is current - looks very basic - and there are no timers or wake up commands set anywhere I can see.
In fact I can't see ANY settings that can be altered by "time".
I have restored factory bios defaults with same result. Is there access to a hidden menu for power settings in the bios somewhere.
Just saw this on dell malaysia and its not 14z

its my dads laptop, a dell vostro 1540 just over a year old i believe and its running 7, in recent times it has been taking a good 10 mins (yesterday half an hour) to automatically connect to the internet, the router is downstairs and the laptop is used upstairs and its getting a signal of about 3-4 bars.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem with setting the admin password on bios A02 at Vostro 1540. Machine just doesn't switch to "locked" mode, after reboot it goes straight to OS, like bios password never been set. Is it defective machine/firmware or maybe I've missed something?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI received my new Inspiron 1720 on Wednesday, and was having really sluggish performance so I decided to reformat.
I put in my Vista Home Premium reinstallation DVD and rebooted, and formatted the hard drive in the setup menu but the install always gets stuck on either Completing Installation, or it goes past that to a black screen with the mouse cursor still showing. If I try to restart the machine at the black screen, Windows will not boot and it just shows the loading bar infinitely.
I tried re-seating both RAM sticks and re-seating the Hard Drive, also there are no external devices or anything plugged into the machine except the power cable. If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it, this is driving me up the wall and like I said I only got this machine on Wednesday so this is quite upsetting. When Windows was on originally, I had really long load times, a lot of "stutter" in games, no errors or anything like that so I am thinking it's a faulty hard drive possibly.
Also just on the desktop, everything was slow to load up but I thought this was due to the amount of bloatware and such, this is why I decided to reformat in the first place.
I just received my 64 bit cd from dell today and am pretty anxious to get it up and running.
Just checking in to see if there are any important things to note before I start.
Due to technical problems, I'm having my motherboard replaced by a technician tomorrow.
There used to be a topic on this forum about some sort of "special" installation of Vista on the M1530 (one driver was loaded during setup). Does this still apply to the new driver versions?
I did my registration with the original installation and then re-installed it on the 64 bit install. Do you need to re-install the software on the new 64 bit install or is it all done through the bios. I also called Lojack and asked about the bios setting since by default it is set to inactive or whatever and not active and I was told not to touch it. Does anyone know what is up with that.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI got a Dell a few weeks ago and I didn't want to be left without all the right drivers etc so I just went with the install they put on it and took out all the bloatware.
Should I create a 2nd partition, and install a 2nd copy of Vista on that and then gradually migrate all the drivers and programs over to that side and then just eventually delete the first side?
Would that improve performance as well?
Then when Win 7 comes out I can just upgrade to that as well.
Anyway of knowing if I would get any conflicts or missing drivers or anything? Any problems you can think of?
Dell Studio 1555
I'm getting my new E6400 next week.
It's good idea to install windows 7 64bit?
Someone wrote that there is driver issue and because of that the battery drain faster...
Can I use the reinstall CD that came with Precision M6400 to install on other systems ? Non- M6400, and perhaps non-dell ?
Can I use the same CD to install on multiple systems ?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy XPSM1330 got a serious trouble with the old Vista... Unluckily, I didn't have any image backup or recovery on it.. That's why I have to install a new Vista on my laptop... I got a full OEM Vista DVD which has been installed so many times on my desktop as well as my father's laptop.. No problems !!! But when I used it for my DELL... After the initial restart after installing updates... It cannot keep on the process.. Now the screen appears in black with Vista Boot Manager Error... I think the AHCI Drive is the main reason so I downloaded the new Intel Matrix Strorage with AHCI support on DELL.com and put it in USB and chose Load Driver in the installing page in Vista ... But nothing changed...!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI got this Laptop with Ubuntu to dodge being locked into only having Vista and hit my head during many attempts to install Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit.
First problem is I keep getting a "can't use this volume" or "can't find volume suitable for Vista" during partitioning.
Got the Intel driver on a flash drive for it but not sure if I need the flash cache driver or not. Vista 32-Bit hung during setup so..
should i just install it, and then use the drivers from the drivers disc and then update, and this it?
any programs that dell has that it is recommended to NOT install?
I had Vista 32bit on that notebook and bought 4GB RAM and 320GB WD Black Edition 7200rpm hard and tried to install Vista 64...
First mine hard drive was not seen by install DVD with message that CD/DVD driver is missing (I am sorry machine is not with me now so I can not write messages I got exactly, but I hope that somebody who has this problem understands me)…
I thought it is SATA problem so downloaded newest matrix driver, extracted and put on USB…
When I tried, it went into setup quick enough, decpomressed the files, and installed everything.
On the first re-boot, however, it got to the bista status bar, and continuously rebooted.
I thought maybe it was a 64 bit thing, but then used a 32 bit vista disk, and the same thing happened.
My new FW490 came installed with Windows Vista 64 Home Premium SP1. I've read that Verson SP2 is available from Microsoft, but it does not appear in Windows update or on the Sony Download site. Has anyone upgraded to this version on the FW490?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI decided to hold off on upgrading to Windows 7 on my Studio 1555 but I wanted to perform a clean install of Vista. So I popped in the Vista installation disc that came with the computer, partitioned the hard drive, and installed Vista. Now it is up and running but with a few problems. The problems are; (1)the ethernet controller is not recognized, (2)the intergrated camera is not recognized (when I open Webcam Central is says "Please plug in a supported webcam), and (3) the displays that used to show up when using the brightness and volume function keys no longer appears. I installed all of the drivers on the drivers and utilities disc that came with the computer but these problems are still there.

My typical use is :
2-3 large spreadsheets open
4-5 PDFs open
8 tabs of web pages on CHROME
VLC to play music in the background.
Access + VBA editor.

I just got a studio 1737 and want to do a clean Vista 64 Home premium install.
I was going to follow Les's guide in the main dell forum but it seems media direct 4.0 will not allow me to boot from the cd.
So I want to boot from Vista and reformat and install the OS.
