Dell :: Installing A New Video Card In I-6000
Aug 16, 2009I got a new video card for my Inspiron 6000, but I'm not too sure I know how to install it.

View 11 RepliesI'm working on this Acer Aspire AS7520-5311 laptop, on Vista 32, with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M. Trying to tweak some graphic settings last night somehow I guess I deleted the video drivers for the nvidia card. I went into the device manager and deleted all of the display drivers. When it rebooted it tried to install it again. For some odd reason, it installed a "Standard VGA adaptor". So my desktop resolution is back to the former settings but any remotely graphic demanding programs will not run. I've went to Acer's website and nvidias website and cannot find the exact NVIDIA GeForce 8400M driver. I've tried everything listed under the model number on acer's website and it will install, reboot, but when comes back up. It still only shows the same standard vga adaptor.
This did not come with a restore disk for some odd reason!
Now before I just blame Vista, transfer all of my data, erase it, and then put XP on it.
I'm sure If I could somehow find the correct driver for the video card it would help.
My problem however is that i cannot open my computer on the back with the screws.
Do you need some special type of screwdriver like a phillips one to open it?
Moving on, I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 from a guy. This one has the Mobile Intel Pentium M 760, 2000 MHz, 1015 MB (DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM), and the Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family (96 MB) onboard video.
So i noticed a lot of stuf was on the laptop and got tired of removing stuff and decided just to format. Got all the updates, etc stuff and went to intel for the video drivers for the onboard video. Well none will install period, the ones off dell is the only ones that will work. Fine i can live with it, it works good enough for now. But i cannot figure out why it only has 8mg shared ram. How the world do i change it from 8mg ram to something else. As in the bios i don't see any setting to change for this. And i'm not sure if dell has a hidden bios key or not.
I recently upgraded my processor from a Celeron 370 to a Pentium M 740 and upgraded my harddrive to 60 Gigs at 5,200 rpm. I now wish to upgrade my 6000's video performance for some limited gaming.
My current motherboard has integrated video. Are there external video cards
this is about the 4-5th time he helped me done it but the wireless never works nor wired with my laptop. The thing is my wifi card Intel Pro Wireless 2200 broke a few years ago somehow.
I ended up purchasing a wifi card on ebay named gigabyte pci card for my laptop. It worked when my other friend installed the drivers.
the wireless driver on the Dell website does NOT work. Googling this problem leads me to believe that I am not the only one with it.
However I have not seen anyone with a solution; most people are just linked to the Dell website and the Dell driver, which doesn't work at all.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad Edition laptop and currently the WLAN network card does not support dual band connection via WiFi. I wish to upgrade the WLAN card so that it can connect to the Dual band WiFi at my house.
Any whitelist of WLAN card that I can use to upgrade my laptop? Is there a list of supported WLAN adapters?
After uninstalling the MS Coporation - WDDM stock driver, I tried to install other better drivers, but none of them could be installed.
"The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware."
I keep getting this message.
I periodically check Dell's site for updated video drivers but they are always sooo old. (Dell's driver-Version 7. something, Intel's-Version 11.something) Intel's site is much more up to date. Anyway, I'll download the Intel drivers and attempt to run the installer. It'll extract all the files but then close and show a message stating that the driver isn't "validated" to run on this computer and that I must get driver updates from my pc maker.
Why are others able to install the drivers, even on other Dell systems? Is it a business notebook thing due to the need for stable system images?
I change windows vista to xp to my hp dv6500 laptop i find all drivers except nvidia video driver , when i try to install the driver " Nvidia setup program couldnot locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware.setup will now exit" .

I got a 370 bluetooth card and for the life of me I can't figure out how to install it in my Studio 15 even after reading the directions on Dell's website. First of all did they send me the right card it measures something like 1/2" by 1 3/8"?
After taking the back cover off of the laptop there is a pretty big slot marked WPAN with a blue cable ran to that spot held down by a black piece of vinyl. The 370 I got doesn't seem to fit the plug-in connection unless I'm missing something. Also I don't see what would hold the card down because it isn't long enough to reach what looks like 2 screw down posts at the top of the slot.
I've never installed a mini-card before or even seen what they should look like, can anyone verify I have the right card or whether I'm just not smart enough to figure out to install it, I won't be offended if the latter?
I ordered a Bluetooth card from Dell for my Studio 17, and I was wondering if anyone has installed one of these yet. I already have the WLAN card installed which is for the WiFi operations and Im wondering how hard of a job it is to install the Bluetooth card.
I already added a second hard drive to my laptop so going inside of it isnt a problem I know what Im doing but have no clue where the Wireless cards are mounted. Im hoping the Bluetooth slot is marked so I know where it goes.
I have inspiron 15r se with 1TB HDD.
I would like to add a mSATA card to my system to be able to use IRST.
I am skeptic because I have read online that systems which were not shipped with 32 GB mSATA card, doesn't have mSATA port for later installation.
When I purchased the system at that time dell had the option for adding 32 GB mSATA card in the customization section, but now dell has removed the whole customization section from the website. And in the pre-configured models, there is no option for mSATA card.
Does anyone know if DELL offers any laptop (besides the m1730) with a dedicated 256 bit video card with at least 256 Meg. memory

View 3 Replies View Relatedtook my 1730 apart to blow out the dust and quiet a noisy vid card fan. Upon re-assembly, I used a long screw instead of a short when securing the monitor back to the body of the laptop.
That screw pierced a resistor and killed my video card... POOR design Dell + idiot move me= dead 1730. The short of it is, I need someone who has had their 1730 apart to tell me the value of the resistor R12, which is under the rubber flap below the left lid support screw.
(UPDATE) I purchased a new card..I know, I know, but I had to as I had projects that I needed access too. I would still like to fix this card though.
The R12 resistor is a micro resistor with "2A2" printed on top of it.. Anyone have any idea where I can get one of these? I thought at first it was 202 but under the magnifying glass I am pretty sure its "2A2".
Both m8800gtx have an error code 43 in hardware device manager (vista32).
Well, here is what is going on. I have an m1730 that has been working A1 since I got until yesterday when I installed CoD:WaW.
It might be just a coincidence though because the game was playing good for a while until I got kicked out of the game and when I tried to launch the game again it said I had a DirectX corruption. So I took a look at directx diag and saw no problem, except for video card info showed nothing!
This is where I decided to look in hardware manager and saw the dreaded exclamation point (error 43) for both my cards.
I did a full video driver uninstall, then did a driversweeper and took out all nvidia stuff and tried to install my drivers again and still get the same error!
Are my video cards messed up? I will be attempting a clean install on another spare drive today to see if it really a driver/software conflict.
I believe my video card in XPS 1530 is failing, from time to time i get half inch by half inch colorful checkboard pattern on part of my screen, usually shows up in the same place.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I have a couple of Latitude 600m's both seemingly with Radion 9000 video cards.
Her HD has been on the fritz, and my mother board seems to have been on the fritz recently (not powering on), and seems to have finally died, so I put my HD in her machine and everything - except - the video seems to be working properly.
Basically the only two display options I have under the video properties are 1024x768 and 800x600... whereas in the HD's native machine, I can go considerably wider.

What video card or cards is this?
about a year ago my e1705's video card memory had a error and I had colored stripes on the screen. I researched a little and found that I could upgrade my card to a xps 512mb card and so I did. Now a few days ago my screen went black and I freaked out thinking my video card died but a few seconds later everything was fine again. Today, the same thing happened although this time the black screen turned to a blue error screen saying "***Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware vendor for support NMI: Parity check/ memory parity error ***The system has haulted***" I ran the diagnostic and the graphics card memory is showing errors. I checked ebay and another card is $300. What options do I have? I like my laptop but I'm kind of tired of this problem especially if I buy another card and expect it to happen again.

i recently purchased a dell xps m170 and i noticed the screen wasnt as crisp as i expected.
so i put the dell resource cd to install a video driver and when i started the driver install the screen went black and that was it the comp was still turned on but nothing on the screen. when first booting up i notice vertical lines during the dell screen and windows screen.
i went to the device manager and uninstalled the nvidia driver and rebooted, everything worked fine i was able to go on youtube and see a video, but when i scroll down it seems the screen is lagging i dont have a better way to describe it. i downloaded the driver for the video card from dell and installed it and immediately the screen went black
First off, hope everyone is having a great time during the holidays and lets not forget our fellow soldiers still deployed.
So I received my replacement on the 21st with T9800 but they are sending me another replacement with the QX9300 processor.
Scenario, lets say they decide to give me the 260's SLI instead of the 280's SLI (which is what they gave me in this replacement and this is dellienware)...
Could I take the 280's in here and put them in the 2nd replacement, obviously put the the 260's in here and return it like that?
So in short, I want to take these 280s out and put them in the new replacement. Take those 260s out and put them in this one and send it back to dell.
Any input would be great
According to a Dell Rep at least.. This is mostly for the people who have the SXPS 16 with the 3670. I was speaking with a dell rep today and she told me that if I were to buy a 4670 and called tech support.
I could ask for their help to install the video card without voiding warranty. I don't know if this is true..
but does anyone know where to get a 4670 besides Dell's site where it's $109
My M90 is out of warranty and I need to buy a video card. Don't want to spend $700+ on a new one so I was looking at the refurbished.
The question is, how reliable are they, and if anyone has use one before. I found some on ebay for $250, witch is ok. Also found one that the seller claims is:
