i want to completely roll back my computer to like it was when it was bought. how do you do that.
Dell latitude d600
I get my new "Vostro 3360" and I needed to do "roll back" to factory settings but I had some problem:
- I tried to do a "recover / estore" but there was nothing in the list - I already installed the laptop also installed many programs (e.g: office, winscp, irfanview etc.)
- I tried to go through the "help center" on the laptop and same issue - nothing, all empty
- I even try to reinstall from the disk I got with the laptop BUT it didn't found my hard disks... so basically, my question is how can I install the laptop from the included windows 8 cd that I got?
I just want to reinstall my laptop like it was as I got it from the factory
I have triedto install the Dell update for my Evdo card on a M1330 running Vista 32bit.
When I run the update the drivers unzip and then begin the install process and then immediately cease and begin a rollback.
I have tried eveything in the book and been on the phone for hours with Dell tech support.
The card works well otherwise but the driver is 2 years old.
My keyboard has stopped wanting to type any key back to back without a pause (whether it's a letter or delete or backspace). So if I'm typing a word with two letters that are consecutive, I have to pause or forget and backspace (which I can only do once also without a pause). It's also started this slight click/beep that happens usually in conjunction with the error although sometimes not. And, the click/beep isn't consistent (or at least I haven't found it's rhythm yet).
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter a having it sit around in bits, I've just put a new power connector on the motherboard of my Dell XPS Gen 2 as it was rather wobbly, put the laptop back together as per the dell service manual, but now that I have done so, loads of weird things have happened.
On turning it on, the screen went blank white, so i turned it off. I turned it back on and then needed to change the settings, then I had a message saying that I had an incorrect battery in and I would have to press F1 to shut down. I restarted, let unplugged the mains let the laptop get past the bios screen at the beginning, then plugged it in and got to the Windows screen.
The problem is that once in Windows, I had what looked like a disturbance across the screen, followed by the laptop crashing.
Everytime I have started the laptop, the same thing has happened, so could someone suggest how to fix this one?
i upgraded from xp to vista over the weekend. i'm now typing this back on xp. boy i tried as hard as i could to make it work, but i just couldnt break down and use it. i had so many problems with it from drivers, to programs, it was horrible. thanks to all that helped with my previous questions regarding my upgrade. i'll just have to continue to use xp until it dies, or is just no longer supported at all.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI ran Vista Ultimate on my M170 for about a month before I got fed up with it and loaded XP back on. I'm not saying that Vista is a bad system...I just had more problems with it in one month than I've had with XP since SP2 was released. I would have gotten rid of it sooner if I wasn't in the middle of Bioshock at the time.
The good: Speed wise, Vista was awesome. My system was plenty healthy enough to run it smoothly, though I think it only rated my system as like a 3.x in performance. Vid card was a 6 though...sweet. With Aero turned on, it was very pretty too look at, though not as much as Linux with compiz or other comparable programs. The file indexing system was just straight dope. I applaud the programmers for this: when Explorer would crash, it wouldn't require a system restart, it would just reload and the system was fine again. All of my hardware was recognized without the need to load drivers.
The bad: It would BSOD quite often. Went through multiple drivers for my hardware to try and curb the problem...even reloaded the OS, which seemed to have helped slightly.
Explorer also crashed more times than I care to count. Firefox crashed every time I closed it. And what happened to display properties? What a step backwards. What's wrong with a single window with multiple tabs? Why do you have to click a link that opens another window that needs to be closed when you're done with it? It also didn't like my dell quickset drivers for the touchpad. I liked that my touchpad had the sensors to scroll web pages...Vista had a different opinion on the matter. Vista also didn't care for my external usb WD 250gig hard drive, as it would start transferring data, and then the stream would stop and the drive would no longer be accessible until I plugged into a different port. I was afraid that my drive was dieing...nope, XP has no problems with it.
After removal and going back to XP...wow! You don't realize how fast an M170 and XP is until you've played around with a hog of an OS like Vista.
Overall, I'm not all that impressed with it. I think I'll wait to use Vista again when both the SP1 update has dropped, and I'm running a DX10 video card.
Specs: M170, 1.7 pin-modded to 2.2ghz, 7800GTX, 60gig 7200rpm, 2gig.
I just sent back my Studio 17... I bought the unit fully loaded with blueray, etc. I had hopes of using it to watch movies but the speakers are absolute junk. I have better sound out of my cell phone. VERY poor design... I am thinking about doing a HP HDX18t it comes with altec lansings and a built in subwoofer.
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhere can I find the settings for the keyboard backlighting? I would not like it to dim at all and would like the ability to adjust its brightness. Where is this possible
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my M1530 to A11 bios a few days ago. Also had high temperatures, so I rolled back to A09. Still had slightly higher temperatures, but nothing big.
I read about the possibility to upgrade to 64 bit vista, so I got home premium 64 bit edition and started following the installation guides.
I already formatted the partition with media center and started the installation, and the computer shut down in the middle. I think its related to heat problems.
Did anyone encounter a similar problem? Whats my best move from this point (No OS installed etc)?
I was going to buy a XPS, but I really have to have a back lit keyboard so I am most likely going to buy a Studio 15.
How bright is the keyboard back lighting? Is it as bright as the Macbook Pros?
i recently reinstalled windows on my Dell XPS M1730 but i have some problems. For some reason the lights on the lid of the case (the ones on top lol) dont come on anymore.
To get them on i have to open dell quickset and turn them off and then on again, then they will stay on, but after shutting down and booting back up they are still off. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Also another issue im having is that when i turn on the laptop my left speaker light is orange. I changed it in quickset to be blue but still during booting its orange and then once the laptop is fully booted it turns to blue. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I have a dell inspiron 1520, and I've recently made some improvements, so to speak.
1) Replaced screen (the other one was cracked)
2) Replaced keyboard
3) Upgraded my RAM from 1GB in only on slot, to 3GB in both (1GB in one, 2GB in the other)
4) After doing these things, I wiped my harddrive, and reinstalled all the necessary drivers and such.
Now, that brings me to the problem(s):
1) sometimes, randomly, it'll flash a blue screen that tells me my computer's crashing, and then turn off.
2) Won't warm boot at all. In order to restart it, i have to shut it down, and then turn it back on, cold boot.
3) When I turn it on, the visuals don't take up the whole screen, but just for the first part. There are black strips on the right and bottom of the screen, almost like the resolution changed during the first part of the boot. When Vista kicks in, it's completely normal. that's not a big issue, but it's kind of annoying.
4) I'll get random messages at times, saying things like 'Superfetch stopped working', 'Host Process for Windows stopped working', various parts of my anti-virus softare aren't working, things like that. all the time.
5) The final problem, is that i can't get into my Add/Remove Programs section of the control panel. When the icon is clicked on, the mouse scroller arrow has an hour glass for a split second, and then does absolutely nothing. Doesn't help to restart (as in (2)).
If anybody has any suggestions, it would be SOOO appreciated!! Thanks!
It has a windows vista installed and there is a sticker of windows vista below the keyboard.
But there should be a sticker too at the abck of products key, thats what everybody told me..but there isnt any on mines
Plus It came with a Windows XP CD. not windows Vista Cd.......
Only if I could change the one I have aleady
Anyway, it looks pretty nice and it is a $0 option..... Who's gonna pull the trigger?
I've been using my E6400 for a few weeks and I really like the backlit keyboard. Using the Dell Control Point interface, I have the backlighting adjusted to about 2/3 brightness (using the slider in Control Point).
I also have it set to remain lit for one minute with no activity.
Last night, the keyboard suddenly became much dimmer than usual. I double-checked in Control Point that the it hadn't somehow been dimmed and it hadn't.
I even maxed out the slider to the Brightest setting and it had no effect. I also tried using the 'Fn' and 'Right Arrow' keys to adjust it, no change.
Okay so to start off i just reformatted my laptop following the instructions that came with it and everything works fine.
The question i have is about the appearance of the desktop.
Before i reformatted it i had all the factory settings, this included that bar at the top including the media options and the internet explorer logo. My question is how do i get this again,
i want that bar lol. Also i lost all the dell XPS wallpapers that were included before. Is there a way to get all those factory options back
If I put the SIM card from my old mobile phone in the back, what will happen? The SIM card is from the Australian telephone company Telstra. Will I be able to access the data on the card?
Will I somehow be able to make cellphone calls? If not, is there a way I can do that?
so i got some good responses (thanks again slowdown117) from my previous thread about the temps on my 8600gt soaring as of late, and i figured the chipset was biting the dust. but turns out she still had some life in her.
decided i didnt want to wait on an order of arctic silver 5, so i went down to compusa and picked up some compressed air and a tube of ocz freeze thermal extreme conductivity compound. the reviews online for it are solid, and it was only 5 bucks, so i was sold ...
I just installed W7 and can not find Roxio Creator anywhere on any of my disks, I have all the disks that came with my 1737 I never had to install Roxio and never looked for it before.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I broke the screen on my laptop and I have purchased and received a replacement Dell Inspiron 15.6" Matte 1600x900 LED screen from an internet retailer.
The problem is that when I connected it to the laptop first time it did not work, I figured out there was a loose connection for my flex cable (my bad), then I made the connection firm and I got my new screen working perfectly! I got happy and screwed back the screen. Before assembling everything back, just tried it again and damn - the picture became very-very dark. I mean, no colorful details on the screen - I do see a picture but it is shades of dark grey - i can hardly see something there but again, the picture is there. I don't know much about LED screens but I would say it looks like there is no "backlight" or something like that.
Note, when I switch to the external monitor - everything is fine. First I thought the culprit is the flexible LED cable that goes from the motherboard to the LED screen. I just thought that maybe I broke the cable or its connection when I was disconnecting/connecting my LED screen. I figured out the cable part number (R267J) and ordered a new one from Dell. Once it arrived, I tried it - the same problem . So right now I definitely know the following:
1. The replacement LED screen must be good cause I saw it working and it is actually showing something, just there is a lack of brightness or "backlight"
2. The LED flex cable is good (I have the old and new one - they work the same)
3. The external LCD monitor connected via VGA works well - so it looks like the video controller is OK
Guys, what should I try next?
I have a wired problem on my 1340 using windows 7 64bit.
From time to time, not sure when but when Im on windows (desktop, surfing with firefox etc..) the screen suddenly turn black, I dont see anything thou the laptop still runs normally - if I press ctrl + alt + del, I do see the menu that lets me choose all the basic options but when I exits it I still see black. This problem solves itself after a min or two and I see everything back to normal - If I was installing something then the install just finishes (the computer works normally during this, its just the screen). When this problem happens something the screen flickers, I see windows back for a sec and then black again - and after a few times its back to normal.
Anyone knows how to fix this ? Its quite irritating.

Can anyone tell me how to get back the factory settings..
i have studio1537 model...i have some problem in my system to fix that i did formatted the system and deleted the recovery partition..
can i get back to the onginal settings which i got it from the factory.
When you recieve a laptop from dell brand new you turn it on it goes through
welcome options and account creation after that you are welcomed to windows with all drivers installed and fully up to date.
I've had my XPS 1530 for 16 months now and haven't really had any issues with it. But on Saturday, I removed the remote control and later tried to replace it, but it just wouldn't go back in. Normally, I just push it in and then it 'locks' in the 'in' position. But I can't push it in to the locked position now... Weird.
