However, my battery life has gone down to 2 hours instead of the original 3 and a half hours when I first received it. I got my laptop on march 28 so it's only been two weeks.
Is there something wrong with the battery i got? On average, I only use this laptop 2-3 hours a day and it's on sleep or usually shut down when i'm not using it.
I'm experiencing some strange problems with my XPS1340 and I think it might be related to a failing harddrive.
The computer hangs quite often during startup or if I am installing/running programs. However, it seems to handle file copying with no problems - at least for now.
When it hangs, the harddrive LED stays ON, but the computer doesn't freeze totally and no BSOD. I can still move the mouse, but I can't open any programs or browse through files. After a while I get a message that Windows is not responding and I have the option to terminate the process or wait for it to respond. I can't click on any, though.
The only thing to do is a hard reset, and then normally the computer boots with no problems. If it hangs during startup I have to do the hard reset again.
As mentioned - the problem seems to occur only when the computer is installing a program / opening a program / starting up. I have just copied about 20GB to the harddrive to test, and it did that with no problems at about 32MB/s. Also - I can do "light work" like typing (I'm typing this on the computer)
I have tried to format and do a complete reinstall AND - Windows installs just fine - the problems begin when I start to install all the programs.
So.. Is this harddrive related, or could it be something else??.. I really think it's weird...
I got the computer about six months ago and until now I haven't really had any problems. I'm running windows 7 64 bit and the harddrive is a Western Digital (WDC WD32 00BJKT-75F4T).
I feel that my 9400M G card is about to die, heres why:
When I upgraded to win7 I noticed a more blurry playback on same videos, and my card would always get stuck in a certain part of the video playing a sound "grrr wwaaa'' like microter, and then regain itself and very soon do the same again, and there isnt anything bad with the video because it would do it in different parts all the time.. Same even on dvd playback too...
So I tried all options, all drivers that are out, all codecs, then I came to conclusion that its win7 and the drivers arent perfectly made for it yet, So then I installed back Vista to resolve this issue once and for all.. Only today I find that the issue is back again... I cant watch any music video without it chopping the audio for like 2 seconds and playing a broken disk sound and freezing for those 2 seconds then playing again and about in another 30 seconds doing the same again.
So can some one tell me is this NVIDIA 9400M G that is gona die soon? The video quality of dvd's is perfect other formats gotten a lil worse! but the audio making a horrible broken records disk and video freezing for 2 secons happens in all videos even dvd's, youtube, avi, mp4, mpg, etc....
So to keep it as short as possible, I had many issues with my xps 1330 (it ahd the extended battery from start) and eventually ended up having the option to get the 1340 as my replacement of equal or better specs. I agreed and received a xps 1340.
First problem was that it did not come with the extended battery. I called and asked about it and they ended up sending me a replacement extended battery for the standard one.
On monday the 5th of october they received my old laptop (1330) and the transfer should of been done at that time. I was told the transfer will be done when my laptop is received, it hasn't .....
how long the 85 WHr Lithium Ion 9-cell battery lasts while surfing the web/word processing and how much it sticks out of the computer? I am probably buying one and I would really like to know.
Why is the Studio XPS 13 so terrible on battery life? ~2.5 hours on power saving mode, 1 on high-performance. I believe the Sony Z rates around 3-5 hours on power saving, as does the Latitude 6400. Is it normal to have this low of a battery life for a 13.3"?
What is draining all the power? How does the Z pull 4-5 hours on its battery life?
I don't want to shell out for a 9-cell and also have to deal with the added weight... but this is ridiculous.
Also, are there any new deals for the 9-cell batteries?
Just in case anyone wants it, you can get the 9-cell extended battery for the Studio XPS 16 for $59.99 on sale. It's on sale for $79.99 right now and if you apply this additional 25% off coupon it will be only $59.99. Great Deal!
On my new studio 1536 the battery seems a little messed up.
By this I mean that my laptop will be put into sleep mode over night (by me) with 80 or 90% battery, and when I wake up (6 hours later or so) it will be at 8-15%.
Note that this is a NEW battery and has been charged and depleted several times since getting it on may 22nd.
I purchased a refurb Dell 1737. I hope the refurb one is good and anyone can share their experiences about that?
I am actually wondering about the battery. The reviews mention long batter life but the description on buy.com said that the battery can go about to 6 hours and 39 minutes.
I am looking at this as one of my next buys. I have read plenty of reviews, but nothing recent. I have read that new BIOS and such had solved some initial problems. I was hoping someone with my configuration who has bought one recently can tell me:
I have one of the older Studio 15 laptops (aka the 1535) and the battery I'm using now barely lasts an hour and Windows 7 is giving me a notification saying that I should "consider replacing my battery."
I know that everyone has different configurations and such, so while that does have an impact, I still want to know what is the general ballpark battery life you guys are getting. From what I am seeing, 2 hours is the average for the 6 cell, whereas the 9 cell is only 3?
I ask because as strange as it sounds, using BatteryBar indicates that the 6 cell that came with my 1640 has a capacity of only 5100mWh! That sounds very strange, because I know that on my XPS m1530, the 9 cell had a capacity of nearly 86,000mWh. I am having a 9 cell sent to me for my XPS 1640, and hopefully that will fix things. Maybe the battery's circuit board is reporting the numbers wrong/shrug.
I am strongly considering taking my laptop onboard to try and kill off a few hours especially as i have a good 100gb worth of films & series on it, but i want to try and squeeze every last drop out of the battery!
I will obviously be turning the brightness right down and turning off the backlit keyboard, aswell as wifi etc, but is there a way to drop the cpu speed to 15-20%, or whatever the laptop needs to run a film?
I wont need the full 17" screen, is there any way to turn off 3/4 of it so that i am only using a portion of it? if not is there any colour to use as the background that wont draw as much power, as im guessing fullscreen will draw more power.
Does anyone have a studio 15 with the newIntel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor? Intel says it runs max 45W. I cannot seem to find how long the battery life this laptop is? Does anyone know?
so iw as installing a couple of things and all of a sudden when my computer restarted my screen is dim. LIke when you take the charger off dim. I tested it with and without the charger and it's still the same thing. any clues?
This might be a dumb question but, can I transport my Dell studio 1737 laptop without the battery in it? Is the tiny battery inside enough to keep everything okay (not sure what 'everything' is).
I based the size on specs from the Dell site plus answers to my questions from a tech support guy via chat. He told me that my new 9 cell battery would only stick out the back of the laptop by 1". I specifically asked him if it would stick out the bottom, he said no.
