Jan 10, 2009I have a 9cell on my Studio. On power saving mode, it really only last like 3 hours. I just want to compare what other's are getting on battery power.

View 9 RepliesLast Friday i received my new Studio 1749 with i3. As told by the documentation I put in the battery, put the power cable in the ac-adapter, pluged the AC-cable into the laptop and then pluged the ac-adapter into the wall outlet. I booted the laptop and once I was on the windows desktop had a look at the battery symbol. It showed that the laptop was connected to external power and that the battery was being charged.
I wen't away from the laptop to let it charge the battery for 12 hours as told by the documentation. After two hours i came back to have a look at the laptop and it was off. Curious I turned it on again. After booting up it showed the battery at 60% and the laptop running from battery. Yet the ac-adapter was connected to the laptop. I hadn't changed anything. I pluged the adapter cable in and out, but it wouldn't recognize that the was external power available. Turning the laptop off an on again didn't work either.
Now I feared for the battery. My guess is that at one point it started to run on battery power even though it was not charged for 12 hours. Then when the battery was depleted the laptop shut down. This might have permanently damaged the battery!
I guess as soon as the laptop was off the ac-adapter charged the battery again, and when I came in it was just at 60%.
So I turned it off removed the ac-adapter, removed the battery, put the battery back into the laptop pluged the ac-adapter back in and booted up again. Now it showed it was running from external power again. All fine. It charged the battery as well. Actually it charged the battery up to 99% and then out of nowhere the battery symbol changed and it was running from battery AGAIN! Even though it was still connected to the ac-adapter. This happens all the time. It is reproducable.
So I thought something might be wrong with the ac-adapter.
I powered down the laptop and removed the battery. Now with only the ac-adapter connected ,I tried to start the laptop. The control lights above the keyboard came on for 2 or 3 seconds and then the laptop turned off again. Trying to hit the power button again after that didn't give another reaction.
Conclusion: The laptop won't run just on external power with no battery in the battery bay.
I put in the battery again. AC-adapter still connected. Hit power. Laptop starts to boot. Then while booting I removed the battery. Laptop keeps on booting - finishes booting - runs nice and well at full speed not missing the battery - FOREVER.
So it won't boot with the battery removed, but it will run without it flawlessly??? Strange isn't it?
Next test: I put in the battery again while the laptop is running from mains. And now it charges the battery again until the point... you already know... it "forgets" that it is connected to the ac-adapter and starts running on battery power. So now I boldly removed the battery while the laptop was running. After all it was still connected to mains/ac-power.
Our Studio 1749 will retain a solid connection when the power adapter is plugged into the power board along the side of my laptop. I am unsure if the pins residing in the power board are pushed toward each other so as to not retain connection when the adpater in plugged into the laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was thinking of purchasing a Dell XPS 1530 for college. I have everything customized exactly the way I want it but I was wondering if the bluetooth option was absolutely necessary for college campuses? I really do not want bluetooth in my laptop if I do not have to get it as I hear bluetooth drains laptop battery power, but is it required by todays standards?

Recently, it can't power on. Assuming that it was a static-flea problem, having happened before, I did the "remove the battery & AC power, holding down the power button for 30 secs" solution countless of times. Yet, to my dismay, it still couldn't power on.
I did notice, however, that each time the battery and the ac power were in and the socket power on, the battery indicator and the ac power cord were both lit. With this, I am certain that the AC power cord is working, and probably the battery is as well. I have also tried directly relaying the ac power to the laptop without the battery attached but failed.
I have a HP Compaq 2230S business laptop, but this question could be put to any HP laptop. The fan is constantly running when the laptop is plugged into the power outlet, but as soon as I pull the plug to run on battery power the fan powers down and stops. I re-plug the laptop back in and the fan kicks up again.
This is not good as I almost burned myself when I picked up the laptop after an hour sitting on the table on battery power. The hard drive is right beside the processor, so the laptop gets really hot.
Vista x64 Ultimate is what I'm using at the moment and my power scheme calls for 1% minimum and 100% maximum CPU on battery power.
When my laptop is plugged into AC power, and I decide to move to another room and unplug it, the laptop suddenly freezes. All the programs do not respond and the only way to fix it is to reboot.
HP tech is trying to help my by telling me to test the battery life and resetting the bios, however this laptop is only 2 months old and I had the problem since the begining.
Its a dv3 Pavilion.
I have a Studio 1737 running Windows Vista Home Service Pack 2. I'm running the latest BIOS and all of my drivers are up to date.
When the AC adapter is unplugged and I'm running on battery power the whole system lags. It also turns of when unplugged without warning after about 15 minutes.
Also, I get these error messages in my event viewer a couple of times an hour:
Log Name: System
Source: ACPI
Event ID: 13
: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.
Am using Delll N4050 more than a year, now am facing some shutdown issues.
Computer details: My Laptop shipped with ubundu and I installed windows 7 home premium.
Processor: Â Intel core i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30 GHz
System: 64-bit
Problem: For past one year it was working fine but now am facing shutdown issues. When I shutdown my laptop it's not shutting properly (i.e.) power led keeps glowing and fan keeps running until i long press power button to shut it down. But restart works fine. Same problem occurs when I put in sleep mode and hibernate mode.
It functions exceptionally well, but i notice that the video playback for anything from avi files to dvd to even movies
in itunes when on battery power is fuzzy. As soon as i disconnect the power cable i see the video playback go from smooth to sort of reduced bit rate.
Its like looking at a youtube vid in HD and then going and looking at it in normal SD res.
It is horrible. Can someone help me. I am using the latest greatest drivers from dell. I hope this is not a MB/graphics card issue.
I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.
So I've owned my piece of crap Dell 1705 for less than 3 years now.
The cosmetics of the laptop itself is in perfect condition but everything inside seems to be busted.
Issues:
1. Battery is no long working .
2. Headphone jack broken, in return the speakers will no longer work.
3. ** Go 7900gs is busted leading to BSOD parity error every 5-10 minutes
My battery on my acer draws power at times when my laptop is plugged in  it will work ok then the on and off button will start to blink  It will go into  hibernation when plugged in when the battery gets to  low....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Dell Insipron 15R 5520 Laptop Windows 7. Last few days I am getting a long beep sound after I pressed the power button and the Dell progress bar loads. And if I press power button, its turning off. Later I've pressed F8 key to login in Wiindows Normal Mode, its opening Windows. So every time i've to press F8 key to login. Sometimes the beep sound continues and not logging in normal mode or in Safe mode.Â
I thought it might be RAM issue and I checked 'System Settings' in Control Panel, it shows the usable RAM is 2.77GB of 8GB.Â
I went to Dell laptop service center near by my location and they said its keyboard problem, they charging too much amount to replace keyboard. but my keyboard is working properly.
Laptop was working fine up until yesterday. Then this happened...
1. Pressed the power button to turn on the laptop
2.the fans run and the computer makes its usual whirring noises as it would normally do whilst booting up.
3.the screen however remains completely inactive. As if the laptop is off.
4. I turned it off and on again several times. Once it came on and worked as normal, I could access all files and backup everything.
5. This morning I turned it back on and it has done the same thing. Makes the sounds as normal but screen is inactive.
I have turned off and on again and connected an HDMI cable to an external screen but there is no signal.
I bought a Z in July and notice the battery time is short and short? in July it can last more than 2.5 hours even at 80% charge, now is 1 hour only, is battery care working? I think Sony is quite poor in battery management area, they should provide a application list thinkpad to test the current then tell you how long it can last.
View 10 Replies View Relatedhow long the macbook pro battery last. The 17" is 8 hours and 15 and 13 " is 7 hours. I would just want to know those who own a macbookpro. How is you macbook pro last according what it advertise?
I normally just want office work, web surfing, chatting, editing pic and youtubing and little game.
I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop which is currently four years old and out of warranty.
Currently, with or without the battery with AC adapter connected when I press the power button, the power light does not light up but the battery status light keeps on blinking until the power button is pressed. I don't see any boot up screen or hear any sound of CPU fan running in the mean time. Basically, it does not start at all.
I recently got new dell authorized battery as a replacement for laptop fearing that could be source of problem. However, the new battery does no good. I checked the battery health and status and its fine.
Before this issue the laptop would start and immediately on boot screen it would shut down. So, I got it fixed from a repair service center who cleaned up the clogged cpu fan. It worked fine for two days and then the issue resurfaced.
Now, it does not start at all. I even checked with another adapter and also changed the CMOS battery (as date and time kept changing on every boot) but the issue still remains.
Also tried removing and reconnecting the RAMs one after another and then trying to boot. Also tried draining the static charge if any after removing the battery and adapter and then holding the power button for 50 seconds. Reconnecting with ac adapter with or without battery then also does not start the system.
This might be a dumb question but, can I transport my Dell studio 1737 laptop without the battery in it? Is the tiny battery inside enough to keep everything okay (not sure what 'everything' is).
I based the size on specs from the Dell site plus answers to my questions from a tech support guy via chat. He told me that my new 9 cell battery would only stick out the back of the laptop by 1". I specifically asked him if it would stick out the bottom, he said no.
How long usually it take for Acer to service laptop?
i want to compare it with other country whether its faster or not.
my laptop go to service center at March, now its already May 2009 and my laptop is still on the service center. (the dvd drive wont eject discs, its slot-in type)
usually they (acer) only take 1 or 2 month but now it become 3 months >_>
last time when they change the LCD and Battery and DVD-RW Drive it only take about a month (yups, 3 parts are replaced by acer, for free)

I know some of you have been waiting to see one of these
I was wondering if anyone has orderd a Studio 1555 and if so, how long does it take to get it. I have been waiting since June 11th.
I have been in contact with Dell support, Executive Escalation and have now contacted Unresolved issues. I am about ready to cancel and buy an Apple or something that can be delivered in a resonable time.
So I got this laptop 3 weeks ago, it would take 10 seconds to boot. now it takes like 2 minutes, all i did was change my anti-virus. i just finished a system restore, but still the same speed. im starting to think its a hardware problem, but all the diagnosis test show no results.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 Ultimate, downloaded software/installed software the entire time, and browsed the internet).
Anyway, I plugged it in today, and it's been charging for just over 4 hours now and it's only at 78%...is this unusually slow to charge? Should I send mine back? I've never had a proper working battery take this long to charge, even 9 cells.
While I was almost a 100% certain my next laptop would be the asus ul30jc, I just saw the folowing laptop in a local advertisement and I must say i'm tempted (being a student, I use almost all of my free money on vacation, food and alcohol so every saved € counts):
Compaq Mini 311c
Intel Atam N270 (1.6ghz)
1 GB RAM
160 GB HDD
Nvidia ION LE (shared memory)
Wifi b/g
Windows XP home (service pack3)
Battery info unknown, though most sites say it has a 6 cell battery.
359€
So I have a few questions. First and most importent of all, I need to know how long the battery will last, if its +7 hours i'm content.
Second, I have no idea what kind of wifi I need, I use that white Belgacom Digital TV Router so perhaps my fellow Belgians can help me on this? When I use system information it says my wifi in my current laptop is A/G/N.
Third, will I be able to install the newest microsoft office programs (I have 2003, 2007 and will most likely buy 2010 aswell) on windows xp home?
Last but not least, will I see a big difference if I upgrade from 1gb of 2gb of ram? I noticed a big difference on my current laptop when I upgraded my ram, but since that hp compac has a very weak processor, it might be pointless since that cpu might bottleneck the effect?
When I pull the power cord to switch to battery power while in Windows my lcd goes to black. The only way I get my video back is a hard reset and reboot. Later on I tried this and everything was back to normal. Why is this happening? Is this some weird standby?
Dell Inspiron 1505 Bios A-14
After replacing the fan, I have a power up issue with the laptop. Basically, the laptop will only power on with the power cable disconnected at the motherboard. It was by mistake that after the fan was replaced and everything was put back together, that I noticed that the battery was not charging.
Â
I then reopened the machine and reconnected the power cable to the motherboard and nothing - no power.
Â
When plugging in the power source with the battery in place, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE then stays ORANGE and will not power up. No other lights, no fan noise, nothing.
Â
If I remove the battery, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE and stays white however will not power up either. Same agin, no other LEDs, not fan noise, nothing.
Â
I have now opened the machine back up and disconnected the power from the motherboard. Put it all back together and the laptop powers up as normal with the battery and it works fine. (Well until the battery runs out anyway).
Acer 5253 - Will not power on, battery or on AC power. Have tried all the suggested solutions but none have worked. Is it possible to get maintenace instructions (disassembly, where certain items are located, etc)?Â
View 9 Replies View RelatedLast night I was using my E1705 running on battery when the thing just suddenly zapped off. I had recently glanced at the battery meter which was 75% full. I pressed the button on the actual battery which shows 3 of 5 lights on the charge meter.
The battery itself is only 1 month old and has been performing flawlessly. I just thought it was something random so I plugged the machine in and it started up.
I didn't think anything else of it till today when I went to move my laptop, removed the power cord, and the laptop turned off. I checked the physical battery meter which still reads 3 of 5 lights .....
