Dell Alienware M14X :: Laptop Taking Long Like 2 Minutes To Boot
Mar 9, 2013
So I got this laptop 3 weeks ago, it would take 10 seconds to boot. now it takes like 2 minutes, all i did was change my anti-virus. i just finished a system restore, but still the same speed. im starting to think its a hardware problem, but all the diagnosis test show no results.
I have an Alien M14x that when turned on displays the message "checking media" then the message "no boot device found hit any key to reboot". Of course when you hit a key it restarts the messages. I followed another feed and hit F2 to reset defaults with F9 with no success. When I tried to diagnose with F12 it says hard drive not installed???!! Haven't altered or changed anything and it stopped working less than 2 years old but out of warranty.
I was trying to install a new SSD in place of my old HDD. But after I installed the SSD, there is no detection in BIOS. The old HDD works fine. I don't know how to solve this issue. Is it related to the firmware of my SSD? I got this SSD from a friend, it was installed on a server before.
I have an Alienware M14x R1, which I recently added a Samsung 840 SSD hard drive to. I have kept the original 750GB hard drive in the laptop aswell.
I have installed Windows 8 and the laptop boots and seems to work fine. When I access anything off of the second hard drive (the original drive) the laptop slows right down, occasionally freezing. I check the Event Viewer and there are warnings appearing about every 30 seconds, here are some examples:
The IO operation at logical block address 744a158 for Disk 1 was retried. The IO operation at logical block address 73bb0a8 for Disk 1 was retried. The IO operation at logical block address 7291ab8 for Disk 1 was retried.
I updated the driver on the laptop to see if that would fix the problem. After installing all the drivers I found my laptop would no longer boot. I would see the WIndows loading screen (with the spinning progress indicator) and it would continue to seem like it was loading for over an hour. I then powered down the laptop, and Window detected that it failed to boot. WIndows attempted to fix itself, but failed, and I was stuck with a laptop that could only attempt to boot then failed repairing itself.
I reformatted an started again. I was having the same slow access problems to the second hard drive and seeing exactly the same message in the Event Viewer. This time I installed the driver one at a time, rebooting after each. I found that when I installed the latest version of the 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' driver, my computer failed to boot.
Am I supposed to be using a different version of the Rapid Storage Technology driver?
I seem to be getting MS/Ping lags when playing on my Alienware M14x. Every now and then I get random spikes. It stays good for a couple of seconds and then it suddenly it spikes. I have tried running different games and I still get same problems. I uninstalled my WiFi driver and still same problem. I don't know what step I should take next, It is also not overheating, I manage to keep it at a steadt 50. I will now post some of my specs.
Intel Core i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.400Hz 2.4 GHz Killer Wireless-N 1202 Network Adapter 64 bit operating system 8GM RAM NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
sometimes when i boot up my laptop i hear 5 beeps and the screen stays black. computer doesnt boot just keeps doing that. Usually boots after turning it off and on after that. Also when it does boot up after having the beeping sequence the clock on my computer is reset.
This is from a brand new m14x rs laptop (alienware) that i just bought.
I bought one Alienware M14 x last month. However, I found it won't boot when the power adapter is plugged in. If I unplugged the power cord, then press the power button, it will start normally.
I was cleaning my computer and got it back together and had one of the HDD's die. I replaced it with a differany HDD, reformatted and installed the OS (Vista) but when I start it up the BIOS gets about 80% loaded and then next 20 takes 2-3 min. to load. It used to be much faster, within a matter of seconds. I tried reflashing the BIOS but that didn't change anything. Anyone have suggestions? Computer is the Inspiron 1720 in my sig.
I'm trying to understand why my new Inspiron 15 7000 series takes so long to start after being put to sleep as I don't believe it should take this long.
The power settings are configured to go into sleep mode whenever the lid is closed or the power button is pressed. If, after closing the lid, I re-open the lid within a short space of time, the laptop bursts into life almost immediately. However, if it is left longer, then when opening the lid, nothing happens and I have to (briefly) press the power button. It then takes about 30 seconds for the windows desktop to appear. This is simply too long!
I've also noticed that if the laptop is left idle and it "powers off", which is set to sleep mode then it again takes about 30 seconds to resume when pressing the power button.
The laptop is running Windows 8.1 64 bit and has 8gb of RAM and an i7-4510U CPU.
I have a 5 year old Acer laptop running windows 7, which is faster at starting from hibernate mode than this Dell Inspiron, which suggests that the Dell is actually hibernating, however none of the power settings are set for it to do this.
How to get this Dell Inspiron to start in a reasonable time from sleep mode as 30 seconds is not acceptable.
i am getting a message with AVG that it is taking to long for my computer to startup . is there a hp free download to monitor and clean up startup so it will load faster? i have an HP G60-125 NR Notebook pc.
I got the new aluminum macbook 2.4ghz and it is taking a long time to go to sleep. I cant figure out what it is. I close my lid and the apple logo takes about 4 seconds until is shuts off and another 30 seconds until the light starts to fade in and out. I've shut the lid of another macbook at an apple shop and they go to sleep instantly.
Alright, so early January this year I got myself a Y510P. I bought this cause I already knew I'd be transitioning to different locations and that a desktop wasn't going to be practical. I intended to work with on school, watch movies, game, etc. All of these went perfectly fine
At the end of January I studied abroad till the end of April. During this time I rarely had time to do a lot with my laptop as I was quite occupied with school and social life around it. The few times I did use it for things like watching a movie or play a small game were fine. Anyway, when I came back home in the Netherlands, I noticed that it had slowed down considerably. It tends to take long with simple tasks and unfortunately gaming has become something I can't do anymore, hell, in online games I get called 'wooden pc guy'. Obviously I'm not very happy with my laptop feeling like a machine from '98.
I tried cleaning out my disk, defragging, registry cleaning, scanning for viruses, etc. Nothing works, I want to reinstall my OS to see if it might work, but when I ordered my laptop, I never received an install disk for Windows 8 with it....
Until recently my Aspire M3802 desktop started immediately when the start button was pressed. For about a week it's been taking an increasing number of minutes before the the LED turns blue; today it was over ten. What is the likely problem? If accumulated dust how can I remove it? If not dust, what can I do?
My laptop is an alienware m17x r2, It have been 2 years Since I've bought it, my laptop shuts down after few minutes playing with any game.. And I've Dusted it off many time and it doesn't overheat, I've send it back to my after sales service twice. The first days, it was working like it should, I could play normally.. but Few days after, the problem come back..It is Working for everything! Except For the games.
I got my Ideapad y410p a week ago. It came with Windows 8 and many useless softwares installed. It was taking around 3 minutes of time and immediately i updated my os to 8.1 (x64). Even after updating to 8.1, the boot time didn't get any better. I unistalled useless softwares like Mcafee, Cyberlink tools and many and installed AntiVir and Visual Studio. Turn on Fast startup is also enabled. But what is painful is it still takes 2 minutes and 31 seconds plus to load my desktop. What is more painful to me is My old laptop (Amd Dual Core, 3GB Ram with Many softwares installed with windows 7) loads earlier than this.
I have a problem with my 15R. It shuts down "for no reason". Right now it takes him up to 20 s to shut down so there's no time for any diagnostic software:
it shutdown in BIOS too it shutdown with battery only and AC only it shutdown with HDD, CD, SD card reader, WIFI... and everything else that was unpluggable it DOES NOT shutdown without RAM it shutdown with any combination of my 2 RAM DIMMs after a long break it needs ~20 s to shutdown, 10 after a short break
I suspect it's a thermistor as the fan makes a lot of noise even in BIOS. So my question is - what could be the problem and where are 15R thermistors located so I could check if they are fine.
I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.
On on Dell Inspiron(14z)- 5423, I observe that the heating severe, it becomes severe within 15 min after boot-up. Is there any solution to reduce the heating of the deceive. Left side of the key board, in and around the power button and bottom side of the power button, near the fan outlet etc goes to high temperature.
Dell Inspiron(14z)- 5423 severe battery problems.
On on Dell Inspiron(14z)- 5423, I observe that the battery back-up is very very low, I think i get a back-up around 70-80 min. It very disappointing. Does Dell has any solutions to improve this?
Above two problems are really disappointing me and I think that these two issues are really major pros of Dell-5423. It really critical.
How long usually it take for Acer to service laptop?
i want to compare it with other country whether its faster or not.
my laptop go to service center at March, now its already May 2009 and my laptop is still on the service center. (the dvd drive wont eject discs, its slot-in type)
usually they (acer) only take 1 or 2 month but now it become 3 months >_>
last time when they change the LCD and Battery and DVD-RW Drive it only take about a month (yups, 3 parts are replaced by acer, for free)
I have a M17x R3 laptop since a few years. A few weeks ago I sent it to the shop to have a SSD installed and have Win7 reinstalled (Windows Explorer kept crashing all the time and I wasnt able to format for some reason). When it got back from the shop, I realized a problem that was not there before.
There are 2 horizontal lines, one at the top and one at the bottom of my screen that keep flickering. They dont appear when I'm on the desktop or playing games, only when I have a program running (iTunes, Steam, DivX, etc) in fullscreen.
Here are my specs
Alienware M17X R3 Windows 7 64 bit AMD Radeon HD 6870M (I also have Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 in my display drivers. Just noticed that the version for both is 9.3.0) 6GB RAM
Dont know if it has anything to do with this, but when I got my laptop back I tried to install Cataclyst Control Center and it messed up my graphics bad, I could only run 640x480 and the only way to fix this was to uninstall CCC.
I am having DELL Studio 1558 laptop. Recently, my laptop is getting overheating problem. Once I start it, gets overheated within 15 minutes causing my machine to respond slow and finally it gets stuck. Then I have to hard-shut down it and wait till it cools off.
My Dell Inspiron 17R laptop boots normally. I can use it for some time, until the entire screen turns green. I still see the mouse cursor and I can move it around. Ctrl alt delete doesn't work. The only way to shut it down is hard restart.
Configuration: 2nd gen i7,4GB RAM DDR3 1333MHz,750 GB(7200rpm) HDD, nVidia GT 540M 2GB DDR3 I bought a Dell xps 15 laptop with above configuration on August,2011 with an intention to play latest games.
I played Split/second, NFS:the run ,Max Pyne and recently NFS:most wanted. Split/second and most wanted runs on intel HD with sluggish graphics performance. But the run does not run intel hd,it requires discrete graphics. When I switched to nvidia graphics, every time the game computer hanged down after 5-10 minutes of playing the game. Computer screen froze and sound was looping. Control+Alt+Del didn’t work at this occasion.
I had to manually restart my computer. And a point here, there is over heat beneath the laptop though I use Logitech laptop cooler. Games run on nvidia on battery for about 20 minutes on battery power and heat produced under the laptop was also less. This thing happened with every game I listed above and some other graphics demanding games also. Same games worked fine on my friends Dell inspiron 15 laptop with an 2nd gen i5 ,4gb ram and nvidia gt525m 1gb ddr3 graphics card. And of course, these games were installed from same setup file those I used to install games on my computer. So,there can’t be problem with games file itself.
I called Dell xps premium customer support over phone. They told me to install all latest drivers and bios. I did all the things they told. They also remotely diagnosed my computer but nothing good happened. I then went to dell service Centre at Kolkata. I showed them the problem by playing games before themselves. They reformatted and installed all the things again and changed my harddisc. But my problem was not solved. I contacted service Centre again. But they found no problem after diagnosing my computer. But games did not run. In a nutshell, through a span of 1 year my problem could not be solved. And my warranty period has also expired.
I have 2 Dell Latitude E6320 laptop that is given by a friend, he mentioned that both laptops has been constantly hanging everytime he restart the device.
The OS for 1st laptop is Win 7 Pro SP1 and the other one is Win XP Pro SP3.
Every time i restart the laptops it will hang in the next 7 or 10 minutes. I still can move the cursor around but i can't open task manager, or any files.
I have dell inspiron 15R, 1TB HDD, i7 processor, windows 8.1. My C drive has 500GB(approx) memory out of which 200GB(approx) is free
It used to work fast but suddenly it became very slow. I tried restarting , it got shut down but was unable to start. So I ran diagnostic test which gave an error in hard disk with error code :2000-0142. The next morning I ran the diagnostic test again and it ran successfully without any error.
I formatted it from my recovery disk and it took me almost whole night as the formatting process was also very slow. My laptop still works very slow. It takes almost 15mins for start-up and my applications are also opening too slow.
Ever since i've wiped the machine, i've been having these two problems. When I close the lid, it used to go to sleep straight away, but now I can see the sleep light (and the power button) flash and flash, then it goes to sleep. When waking up it goes through the lenovo startup screen and resuming windows, then it asks for a password, before I used to open the lid and it would ask me for the password straight away. I know it was going to sleep because I could hear the beep straight away when I closed and opened it, but now it just takes too long.
Also, everytime I boot up into windows or resume into windows from a sleep state, I can hear the device noise, like something is being plugged in/out. But there is nothing being plugged in or out at the time. I can't get to device manager quick enough to see what it is that is causing it. But all drivers seem okay.
Also noticed, when the lid is closed, randomly the laptop turns off (hear the beep) an then turns back off again.
