Dell :: How Long Have You Had/will You Keep Your Laptop? (POLL)
Aug 16, 2009
I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.
How long usually it take for Acer to service laptop?
i want to compare it with other country whether its faster or not.
my laptop go to service center at March, now its already May 2009 and my laptop is still on the service center. (the dvd drive wont eject discs, its slot-in type)
usually they (acer) only take 1 or 2 month but now it become 3 months >_>
last time when they change the LCD and Battery and DVD-RW Drive it only take about a month (yups, 3 parts are replaced by acer, for free)
So I got this laptop 3 weeks ago, it would take 10 seconds to boot. now it takes like 2 minutes, all i did was change my anti-virus. i just finished a system restore, but still the same speed. im starting to think its a hardware problem, but all the diagnosis test show no results.
Since vista has come out, I have installed it three times to give it a chance, and all three times I was upset about how slow it seemed, but my new M1710 came with a license for vista ultimate and I just received the install DVD from Dell and was wondering. As of today, a clean install of vista with ALL updates and some tweaking, would it affect my FPS in games enough to notice? Would it help if I upgraded to 4gb? (3.2gb addressable)
What color is your DELL Studio 15/17? What other colors, if any, did you also consider? What color, pattern or trim options would you like to see offered on the Studio notebooks?
I took statistics and numerical analysis a LONG time ago in college, and I'm afraid my poll questions will not be as relevant as they could be, or could cross over from one group to another. Who out there has some expert advise? You can either post here or PM me. I will make a thread for each generation (i9300/xpsg2/m170, i9400/m1710, xps 1730, etc). Maybe having the XPS's on their own? I don't want to thin the numbers out too much. These are the poll questions I postulate:
-it's worked fine! (regardless of if you have an active warranty or not) -some parts are broken but I don't trust dell warranty, prob. end up on ebay searching for some. -i've returned bad parts and gotten good ones, and now it works -the computer died and I got a replacement which was better -the computer died and I got a replacement which was worse -the computer died and I have yet to get a replacement confirmation (not necessarily in your hands yet) -i'm out of warranty and SOL
Voices from others will be heard, of course. Like Galileo said, "In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual."
For those who replaced stock paste with AS5, without making any other alterations how significant was your temperature decline (average CPU and GPU decline).
For school, I am considering a Dell XPS M1330. I get a gift card from the school to purchase a machine, and I really want a 13" since I already have a 17" and an Asus netbook. The Dell falls right in the price range I'm looking for ... $1000US.
I can get it configured with the following for $948 shipped:
T6400 2.0GHz 4GB DDR2 320GB 7200RPM HDD 1280x800 screen 8400m GS 128MB Wi-Fi N Bluetooth 9-cell battery DVDRW Vista Home Premium 32-bit .....
There have been quite a few posts regarding the TT's touchpad. It would appear that most of the TT owners on the forums have not had an issue with it (myself included), though there are some people who have had problems -- so I thought a poll would hopefully shed light on how widespread the problem is or isn't.
For those of you who have had a faulty laptop and had it exchanged could you let me know how long it takes?
I purchased a Dell Mini 10v from the outlet well over a month ago. It arrived July 14 and was faulty straight out of the box (crackling, hissing noise). It was sent to the depot, returned several days later,
and when I turned it on the same problem was still there. It's some problem with the speakers not working properly. I call Dell again. The laptop was sent to the depot a second time--it just got returned a couple days ago .....
"Work In Progress" What does this mean & how long will it take?
Dell says: Work In Progress If you personalized your computer, it's being prepared for production. If you ordered an accessory, software or ink, your order is being prepared for packing.
Does this mean they are making it? Or does it mean its getting all the stuff (e.g hard drive) to make it?
I was wondering if anyone has orderd a Studio 1555 and if so, how long does it take to get it. I have been waiting since June 11th.
I have been in contact with Dell support, Executive Escalation and have now contacted Unresolved issues. I am about ready to cancel and buy an Apple or something that can be delivered in a resonable time.
For all you M1530 owners, how long have you had it for and is the 'defective' GPU still working fine?
For those that had the M1530 or had it replaced, how long did the GPU last before it died?
Also, please mention whether you undervolt/undervolted your CPU and use/used a notebook cooler as I think this would affect the life of it.
Had mine since April '08 and the current motherboard since December '08. Undervolted CPU and notebook cooler. Still working perfectly.
These questions are relevant to my big question here:
XPS M1530 - Keep or Sell?
The poll is just for summaries sake but an actual response with the details would be appreciated. Also, the poll is only for M1530's you bought new. i.e. not refurbished, second hand.
So I've owned my piece of crap Dell 1705 for less than 3 years now.
The cosmetics of the laptop itself is in perfect condition but everything inside seems to be busted.
Issues: 1. Battery is no long working . 2. Headphone jack broken, in return the speakers will no longer work. 3. ** Go 7900gs is busted leading to BSOD parity error every 5-10 minutes
So I just got my new 1647 replacement set up finally and one thing I keep running into is an INCREDIBLY long black load screen between the windows 7 animation thingy and when you actually log in..
Even the windows 7 animation takes longer to load than normal...Than I get a black screen for a good 2 minutes before my mouse then shows up then about another 30 secs I get the login finally...
Whats going on? I have my old 1640 side by side and it boots instantly!
