I'm going to be sending back my sxps 1645 to dell. It seems like this whole model is buggy and I don't feel like paying good money to be their beta tester. So I'm wondering what the best way to wipe my solid state drive is.
What is the best way to ensure private data is completely gone on an SSD before it goes back?
what some of you that have returned this model had to pay for restocking? i am planning on returning mine very soon and need to know what price im looking at as far as that goes.. oh and i purchased mine online straight from dell.
I received a new Dell Vostro 1510 a few weeks ago and have to say although the lid looks nice it's a major fingerprint magnet. What kind of an electronics cleaner can I use and what should I use to apply the cleaner directly to the lid with to help keep the lid clean and free of my fingerprints?
Also what should I use to help keep the LCD monitor clean? I certainly won't use Windex and a paper towel. MY monitor is the anti-glare entry level monitor which works great for web surfing and email but not so great for watching DVD's or online videos. It's too late now but if I had to reconfigure the laptop again which other monitor choice should I have selected for better viewing quality?
the way the F keys have been switched on my Edge 14", today I came across some time to fiddle around with it. I googled what I needed to do...and came across this question on yahoo, which is exact what I need. I bought Lenovo Thinkpad Edge several months ago, and I really like it so far. But I use MS Excel a lot and I always use shortcut keys which involve F1~F12. On my thinkpad, I always have to hit "Fn" and "F1~F12" keys simultaneously, and it is a little annoying since I've been used to using F1~F12 keys without hitting "Fn". So I went to BIOS keyboard setting, and enabled the Function key lock. It became a little bit better, because now I don't have to hit "Fn" and F1~F12 simultaneously, but I could press "Fn" AND THEN, F1~F12. But what I really want is the "Fn" key always on without pressing it. On the BIOS screen, it says hitting "fn" key twice keeps "Fn" key always on, but whenever I hit it twice and hit F1~F12, it doesn't function like F1~F12 key, but it just controlls the sound volume or display light. Is there any way to keep "Fn" key always on without pressing it everytime I want to use F1~F12 keys?"  In short, in the BIOS page, once "enabled", you are able to double tap the Fn key and have it stay on without you pressing it each time; however, it doesn't appear to work that way and turns off everytime you use a F key.
I’ve got a tad problem with my acer 5920 , just bought it. Love it but only 1 thing is bugging me. I normally dont keep the battery in as i just move it around in my room . However if i turn off my laptop and turn the mains off and then turn the mains on and the computer on again, The time will reset to the default 2007 time. I thought most laptops have a battery in them to hold time like computers. This does not happen with any of my old laptops, do you guys experience this?
Since vista has come out, I have installed it three times to give it a chance, and all three times I was upset about how slow it seemed, but my new M1710 came with a license for vista ultimate and I just received the install DVD from Dell and was wondering. As of today, a clean install of vista with ALL updates and some tweaking, would it affect my FPS in games enough to notice? Would it help if I upgraded to 4gb? (3.2gb addressable)
I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.
What color is your DELL Studio 15/17? What other colors, if any, did you also consider? What color, pattern or trim options would you like to see offered on the Studio notebooks?
I took statistics and numerical analysis a LONG time ago in college, and I'm afraid my poll questions will not be as relevant as they could be, or could cross over from one group to another. Who out there has some expert advise? You can either post here or PM me. I will make a thread for each generation (i9300/xpsg2/m170, i9400/m1710, xps 1730, etc). Maybe having the XPS's on their own? I don't want to thin the numbers out too much. These are the poll questions I postulate:
-it's worked fine! (regardless of if you have an active warranty or not) -some parts are broken but I don't trust dell warranty, prob. end up on ebay searching for some. -i've returned bad parts and gotten good ones, and now it works -the computer died and I got a replacement which was better -the computer died and I got a replacement which was worse -the computer died and I have yet to get a replacement confirmation (not necessarily in your hands yet) -i'm out of warranty and SOL
Voices from others will be heard, of course. Like Galileo said, "In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual."
I know that keeping a battery on charge after it is fully charged can decrease its battery life by 30%, but I also know that Apple's batteries automatically stop charging when they have reached 100%, wait till the battery drops to 97%, and then start charging again. I need to know if the battery life will degrade if I keep the laptop on charge...
For those who replaced stock paste with AS5, without making any other alterations how significant was your temperature decline (average CPU and GPU decline).
For school, I am considering a Dell XPS M1330. I get a gift card from the school to purchase a machine, and I really want a 13" since I already have a 17" and an Asus netbook. The Dell falls right in the price range I'm looking for ... $1000US.
I can get it configured with the following for $948 shipped:
T6400 2.0GHz 4GB DDR2 320GB 7200RPM HDD 1280x800 screen 8400m GS 128MB Wi-Fi N Bluetooth 9-cell battery DVDRW Vista Home Premium 32-bit .....
I was wondering as it's not super clear on the Dell site: Can you return a product if your within your 21 days and not be charged a restocking fee? Will Dell send you a shipping label to return the product or do you pay?
With HP if you were in your 21 days they would issue you a full refund and all you had to do was ship the laptop back and they sent you a label.
Well I almost feel "heartbroken" over this whole affair. I finally got the machine yesterday and have had 2 days of pure customer service horror.
The overall look of the laptop, the promised features, the feel of it - all FANTASTIC. I fell in love with the machine the moment it arrived. Then.. I tried to connect my WiFi.
The WiFi was completely defective. Unable to connect to any wireless network. After hours and hours with technical support, an in home tech, and more customer service headache .....
There have been quite a few posts regarding the TT's touchpad. It would appear that most of the TT owners on the forums have not had an issue with it (myself included), though there are some people who have had problems -- so I thought a poll would hopefully shed light on how widespread the problem is or isn't.
I seem to be the only one here with constant probs with my 6400 so after speaking to DELL today, im returning my laptop for a new one.
What I want to know is should I swap out my nVidia GPU for the Intel? I think thats whats causing my therma/fan issues and maybe overheating the system as well (being that I use two external monitors with a dock).
what does it mean by returning with credit? does it mean that i cannot get the full amount i paid, but instead i can buy other dell computer with the credit?
I just got my Dell Studio XPS 16 2 weeks ago. The optical drive of it is DVD drive, but I would like to change it to Blue ray drive. I made a call to Dell and asked if I could change the DVD drive to Blue Ray drive,
however, I was told that for the dell studio xps 16, once the DVD drive has been a part of the laptop, it cannot be changed as it is a slot loading drive .....
I bought a Dell Mini 9 from the outlet and its already shipped. I'm having second thoughts though because of the $245 deal through Sam's club for a brand new one when I payed $230 for a used one.
I'm also not sure if I even need a netbook since I have a XPS M1530 and want to hold off until the 09 Fall Semester to get a netbook (if I decide I want one).
So my question is this: Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee if I refuse delivery? Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee for returning through Dell? Does it depend on whether I open the box or not? Would I have to pay for shipping?/not be refunded shipping/taxes?
i received my brand new studio laptop and stupid me droped it in the first 20 min of taking it out of the box and now the left side plastic is stickin out and its damaged, but its working fine.
question is can i return it and get it replaced? since its been like 1 day i got it.
I purchased the XPS 1330 January 2008, and it has been giving me problems forever. I got my motherboard replaced 4 times, 4 new heatsinks, a new CPU, a new Monitor. Additionally, the service I have received was very poor.
Is there a department I could call to try and return this? Also, now finally, they agreed to do a swap, and to top it off, they are sending me the wrong keyboard layout. I purchased the laptop in Canada (US Keyboard layout) and I am currently in the UK. I have 3 years international warranty. When I filed the swap with the first technician, I asked specifically for a US keyboard; however, upon calling today, I was told, I would be given a UK Keyboard instead.
So, anyone know what I can do? Or better yet, anyone want to take this laptop off my hands (you will obviously get the swap).
