Dell :: Returning A Working Unit W/n 21 Days W/o Restocking Fee??

Apr 29, 2009

Well I screwed up.

I ordered a new studio 17, good specs and all for my girlfriend- but its way too big and heavy for her...and she absolutely hates the extra five finger key set...

So there is nothing physically wrong with the unit, but I would like to return it, without paying the restocking fee.

Dell :: Returning My 1645

Dec 9, 2009

I'm going to be sending back my sxps 1645 to dell. It seems like this whole model is buggy and I don't feel like paying good money to be their beta tester. So I'm wondering what the best way to wipe my solid state drive is.

What is the best way to ensure private data is completely gone on an SSD before it goes back?

1. Yes, I am returning it or already returned it.

2. Yes, unless the throttling problem is fixed.

3. I will keep it and use Throttlestop until DELL fixes the problem.

4. I love it, I will keep it either way.

Dell :: How Do I Avoid The 15% Restocking Fee?

Jul 29, 2009

So I ordered a Dell Studio XPS 1640 laptop and I tried to cancel it, but they already stated that it went into production and so not one person of any position and department would cancel it.

I recieved the laptop just a couple days ago and just got to calling Dell to return it.

I just called and the lady stated a 15% Restocking fee would apply to this return of the laptop that is over $300!

How do I avoid this 15% Restocking fee? I also ordered the 9-cell battery with the laptop, how do I avoid that Restocking fee?

Dell's customer service is sinking like the Titanic

Dell :: Sends Wrong Laptop Then Wants A 15% Restocking Fee

Dec 4, 2008

We bought a Dell Studio 1525 with the "Sea Sky" pattern off of the Dell outlet. We did not get a 1525 w/ the Sea Sky pattern.... it came with some sort of Red Swirl pattern.

Now, I call Dell... they tell me that it is the pattern that we ordered... what? I am not blind, I can read. Dell CONFIRMED we ordered the Sea Sky pattern and sent us something else.

Yes, I am pissed about the pattern on the laptop, not because of the pattern on the laptop, but because they sent us the wrong product and WILL NOT send us the correct product. If we bought one that had 3 gigs of RAM and they sent us one that only had 2, would they pull this same BS?

how to get the correct laptop?

Dell :: Charged Restocking Fee On Returned 1537 That Was Defective

Feb 10, 2009

I've discussed this machine in other threads, but it wasn't until now that I found out that a restocking fee was charged.

The machine in question had problems with a wavy keyboard and an eject button that would stay lit, then go off and eject a disc at random. This happened multiple times. I also had a problem at boot up, where the machine made a ringing noise for over one minute, then booted up. Given these problems, I called Dell to return the machine after having it for two days.

The machine was a "Previously Ordered New" Inspiron 1537 from the outlet. I think it's not too much to ask that it be free of defects out of the box. If there are multiple problems, then one should be able to return it within 21 days for a full refund.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, my advice would be to make sure someone in Tech Support logs in the system the problems you are having. I didn't realize that this was necessary .....

Dell :: Charged Me A Restocking Fee For Defective Studio XPS 1640

Aug 6, 2009

I received my Studio XPS 1640 laptop in July. I didn't open it and wanted to send it back because when I had submitted my order, literally new options for upgrades appeared. I called Dell and the lady I spoke with offered me credit for keeping the laptop, I declined and said I want to reurn it so she said a restocking fee of $343 would apply. I quickly said nevermind.

Later I called back after I OPENED the box and took the laptop out and it was defective, even my friend confirmed it. I spent like $2,700 on the laptop. The next person in the returns department didn't mention any restocking fee, understood I had a defective computer and sent me a returns label. Next day came, and the label didn't come as he said it was. Called back and told the lady in returns that I didn't get the label and she said "I will resend it" and she did. Then the label appreared in my inbox and all was set...at least I thought

I checked my Dell account on Dell.com today and noticed a "new" order being processed in the amount of $343 and the description stated it was a restocking fee charge! I quicky called Dell and the lady I spoke with said I was told I going to be charged a restocking fee, I corrected her and told her my defective computer was never mentioned to have a restocking fee attached. She checked her records and the only thing she would say is that "the restocking fee is non-refundable, I do apologize". Yeah right! I kept telling her what was said to me and I also told her that according to Dell, brand new defective computers DO NOT get charged a restocking fee. She kept saying "the restocking fee is non-refundable, I do apologize". I asked for a manager/supervisor, and she said she would do it but I would get the same answer, to which I DID get the same answer. I hung up!

Dell :: Returning A Vs HP

Sep 19, 2009

I was wondering as it's not super clear on the Dell site: Can you return a product if your within your 21 days and not be charged a restocking fee? Will Dell send you a shipping label to return the product or do you pay?

With HP if you were in your 21 days they would issue you a full refund and all you had to do was ship the laptop back and they sent you a label.

I'm referring to Notebooks on here.

Dell :: Returning Studio XPS 13

Well I almost feel "heartbroken" over this whole affair. I finally got the machine yesterday and have had 2 days of pure customer service horror.

The overall look of the laptop, the promised features, the feel of it - all FANTASTIC. I fell in love with the machine the moment it arrived. Then.. I tried to connect my WiFi.

The WiFi was completely defective. Unable to connect to any wireless network. After hours and hours with technical support, an in home tech, and more customer service headache .....

Dell :: Refusing Delivery Or Returning Through ?

Feb 15, 2009

I bought a Dell Mini 9 from the outlet and its already shipped. I'm having second thoughts though because of the $245 deal through Sam's club for a brand new one when I payed $230 for a used one.

I'm also not sure if I even need a netbook since I have a XPS M1530 and want to hold off until the 09 Fall Semester to get a netbook (if I decide I want one).

So my question is this: Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee if I refuse delivery? Would I be charged a 15% restocking fee for returning through Dell? Does it depend on whether I open the box or not? Would I have to pay for shipping?/not be refunded shipping/taxes?

Dell :: Returning A XPS 1330 After 1 Year

Nov 11, 2008

I purchased the XPS 1330 January 2008, and it has been giving me problems forever. I got my motherboard replaced 4 times, 4 new heatsinks, a new CPU, a new Monitor. Additionally, the service I have received was very poor.

Is there a department I could call to try and return this? Also, now finally, they agreed to do a swap, and to top it off, they are sending me the wrong keyboard layout. I purchased the laptop in Canada (US Keyboard layout) and I am currently in the UK. I have 3 years international warranty. When I filed the swap with the first technician, I asked specifically for a US keyboard; however, upon calling today, I was told, I would be given a UK Keyboard instead.

So, anyone know what I can do? Or better yet, anyone want to take this laptop off my hands (you will obviously get the swap).

But I can't live with the noisy fan that is on way too often when the laptop is docked.

I mean, I'm not using some CPU intentive programs here, I'm browsing the web and listening to music and the fan turns on!

Q&A: is Visual Basic returning to Office:Mac?
My post about questions we got at Macworld 2010 raised some questions, one of which was this one:

The biggest question in my mind is: will Office 2011 support visual basic for excel?

Yes. We announced in 2008 that Visual Basic for Applications will return to the next version of Office (you can read the blog post about it here: saying hello (again) to Visual Basic). And it's still true: Office:Mac 2011 will support VBA....

Acer :: Bypassing Program Installation When Returning To Factory Default

Apr 8, 2009

I'm trying to recover my friend's Aspire 5100 to factory default. I booted with the factory default CDs he had made. The problem i'm having is that when Vista starts up and the Acer programs are being installed (a 5 step process) the installation seems to freeze on step 4 (the eRecovery installation part)

I rebooted the computer and now when vista starts it begins trying to install the remaining 2 stages of the ACER setup.

Is there someway around this problem.

Basically, I'm wondering if i can eliminate this process and just install that stuff manually. Vista seems to have reinstalled fine, but i don't know how to get around the ACER setup.

I wrote Acer about the problem and all they could suggest was using the recovery on the hidden partition, which i'm pretty sure isn't there.

Dell XPS 13 :: Returning 8GB Hibernation Partition To Main OS Partition

Mar 11, 2012

I have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.

1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?

2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.

3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?

Dell :: XPS 1645 Vs. MBP 15.4''

Dec 27, 2009

I'm currently deciding whether to buy the XPS 1645, 6GB RAM, i7, 500GB model of the XPS.

Or a refurbished MBP for the same price. (The one with 256MB DDR3 VRAM)

My main focus is video editing in HD. I've been using Windows 7 and OSX so am familiar with both systems.

What it comes down too right now is the build quality and the potential out of both machines.

I've read numerous reports of "Heat" problems from the XPS1645 which kinda scares me from buying it, however the 1080p and i7 kinda interest me.

Dell :: No Bluetooth 1645

Mar 28, 2010

All of the sudden, bluetooth stopped working on my laptop.

I installed the Dell driver when I first got the computer and everything was going fine. I was listening to music through some blue-tooth headphones this morning, when suddenly they unpaired.

Now, the BT light is on on the front of the computer, but the icon disappeared from the task bar. I tried reinstalling the driver, but got hung up when it asked to turn on blue-tooth with wireless button. The button doesn't do anything for turning on/off bluetooth that I can tell.

So now I'm stuck.

In Device Manager, there is no bluetooth 370 card. But I do have errors in the USB category and the "other devices" category.

Dell :: Studio XPS 1645

May 4, 2010

I generally use my computer each day, and if I close the lid at night without shutting the computer off, in the morning the computer will be off.

That wouldn't be a bad thing except many times it'll shut the computer off so I lose everything that was opened up. But the only weird thing is that it won't happen every time.

I was just wondering if any of you have this problem and if there was some setting that I overlooked each time when I looked to change that. It's not a big thing, but I had a Dell computer provided by school and it would still be on in the morning after using it at night...........................
