Dell :: Adamo Vs Macbook Air Design Poll
Mar 20, 2009I was just wondering what the community thinks of design of the new Dell Adamo.
Please vote on the two based on a purely design perspective without basing your opinions on specs.

This is interesting; I'd love to see a "DellBook Air"...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm considering a Macbook Pro 15" or 17" for University. I'm studying Computer Games Design for 3 years, this includes Graphic Intensive work on Photoshop, Maya, 3DS Max and Importing models into Unreal Engine for level creation etc.
Do you think a Macbook Pro would be suitable for these tasks? Otherwise I'm going straight with a PC Laptop, as well over the majority of games are made on PC platforms. I was just interested in the MBP for the Battery life, OS X and all the little quality features it has.
Also would just like to know, how is the battery life on the MBP whilst running in Windows 7?
Since vista has come out, I have installed it three times to give it a chance, and all three times I was upset about how slow it seemed, but my new M1710 came with a license for vista ultimate and I just received the install DVD from Dell and was wondering. As of today, a clean install of vista with ALL updates and some tweaking, would it affect my FPS in games enough to notice? Would it help if I upgraded to 4gb? (3.2gb addressable)
View 15 Replies View RelatedThere was a poll for idle temps, but I am more interested in your values for max temp for the GPU.
Setting: 8 mins of running Rthdribl on a M1330; HWMonitor read-out for max. GPU temp in Celsius.
Mine would be 104°C. After another 2mins the GPU clocked down, resulting in "only" 98°C.
I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.
did you have any problems with the laptop when you first got it?
i figured it would be a good idea to do a survey and see what would be the ratio between defective laptops vs non defective ones.
When did your 8400M GS Fail, if at all?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAre you returning your XPS 1645?
1. Yes, I am returning it or already returned it.
2. Yes, unless the throttling problem is fixed.
3. I will keep it and use Throttlestop until DELL fixes the problem.
4. I love it, I will keep it either way.
What color is your DELL Studio 15/17? What other colors, if any, did you also consider? What color, pattern or trim options would you like to see offered on the Studio notebooks?

I took statistics and numerical analysis a LONG time ago in college, and I'm afraid my poll questions will not be as relevant as they could be, or could cross over from one group to another. Who out there has some expert advise? You can either post here or PM me. I will make a thread for each generation (i9300/xpsg2/m170, i9400/m1710, xps 1730, etc). Maybe having the XPS's on their own? I don't want to thin the numbers out too much. These are the poll questions I postulate:
-it's worked fine! (regardless of if you have an active warranty or not)
-some parts are broken but I don't trust dell warranty, prob. end up on ebay searching for some.
-i've returned bad parts and gotten good ones, and now it works
-the computer died and I got a replacement which was better
-the computer died and I got a replacement which was worse
-the computer died and I have yet to get a replacement confirmation (not necessarily in your hands yet)
-i'm out of warranty and SOL
Voices from others will be heard, of course. Like Galileo said, "In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual."
I cant find it on dell home website.

View 10 Replies View RelatedFor school, I am considering a Dell XPS M1330. I get a gift card from the school to purchase a machine, and I really want a 13" since I already have a 17" and an Asus netbook. The Dell falls right in the price range I'm looking for ... $1000US.
I can get it configured with the following for $948 shipped:
T6400 2.0GHz
4GB DDR2
320GB 7200RPM HDD
1280x800 screen
8400m GS 128MB
Wi-Fi N

9-cell battery

I'm a somewhat pleased (after months of displeasure) SXPS1645 owner *points to sig* but after 5 months of carrying this thing with me to my campus daily (and pretty much everywhere else I go) this machine is heavy and big and bit overkill since when I'm outside I rarely use it for video editing and gaming which I tend to do at home. So for the Fall(ish) I'm going to be in the market for an ultraportable, but after using this machine it's going to be hard to go to a machine with a wimpy atom processor or even a ULV C2D. So I found the Adamo XPS and it appeals to me in the same way the SXPS did, an eye catching design that isn't bulky and still performs well. However looking at the specs currently available for it I was disappointed. It's using a hodgepodge of outdated parts. I wanted to basically start a thread on potential component refreshes for the Adamo XPS, in the hopes that by the time I'm ready to purchase one some of these things will become reality. Also I'm curious about other brands of ultraportables (NOT netbooks) that people use/have used and would recommend.

They basically take it completely apart. Very interesting with lots of photos.
I was surprised to learn the battery can't be replaced by the user...
Apples and oranges, I know. I've done the "what should I buy?" FAQ and have had my options whittled down, and I'm between these two at the moment.............................................................
View 10 Replies View RelatedI really need your advise on which one to go with. I prefer to test them out at the store. Unfortunately, I can't find any locally.
Anyhow, I can get the Adamo Admire on Dell (the 1.4GHz version) for $899 (with $100 EPP discount).
The Vostro V13 for $700 (w/o SSD). In fact, if I go with the V13, I may get the base version to save even more, but just to make a comparison, let's consider the $700 version.
I don't use this laptop for much heavy work. I have the Latitude D630 for that. I like to add a sexy machine for documentation, web browsing, and business travel. Occationally, I will compile some C code, but not often .....

There have been quite a few posts regarding the TT's touchpad. It would appear that most of the TT owners on the forums have not had an issue with it (myself included), though there are some people who have had problems -- so I thought a poll would hopefully shed light on how widespread the problem is or isn't.

I started out with a M1210 and than moved to a MB Air. I like the Air but i really want to come back to Windows so would you recommend the Adamo or the Adam XPS ?
I really like that Adamo XPS but what do you think of the specs ? Will it preform well ? Would it preform as good as my Air with 120 SSD, Nvida Card and 2 GB Ram?
It is even thinner than the new Sony Vaio X.
I thought my Nokia E51 was thin at 12mm but this Adamo is just 9,99mm!Really insane.Take a look at the following links:
