View 10 RepliesI was just wondering what the community thinks of design of the new Dell Adamo.
Please vote on the two based on a purely design perspective without basing your opinions on specs.

Is there a Mystery Coupon from Dell in August every year?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with an HDMI port. While the port was hooked to my AV receiver, I hit a few buttons on the receiver and somehow disabled the HDMI port on the Dell.
I cannot figure out how to reactivate the HDMI port. I know this is what happened--cable, receiver, balance of computer is all fine. Somehow, the received "talked" to the Dell and turned off or disabled the HDMI port or its driver, is my best guess.
I have just bought an Aspire 5735 a few weeks ago and, to be fair, it's fantastic for the money; however, i've noticed that in spite of the screen being sharp it appears slightly grainy when i physically scan across the screen with my eyes?!! I have checked this against my 7 year old Sony Vaio but it doesn't have the same problem, it's a mystery...
I was kind of wondering if because the pixels where so closely produced (it is quite a compact 15.4" widescreen display) that it was a trick of the mind? The grainy effect is symetrical like a chequerboard pattern or herringbone!
If i stare at the screen without any physical movement the picture/graphics are pin sharp, it's only if I alter my viewing angle or scan the screen quickly with my peepers; maybe my brain just isn't sharp enough any more to de-code the data!
My exact model details are:- Aspire 5735, 4gb ram, 6400 intel core2duo, vista premium home edition.
I've had eye on Z Series for couple days, but there exists a mystery I couldn't figure it out.
I've searched this forum and the net, still no answers.
On the sony's official USA website (www.sony.com)
Sony claims VGN-Z790 CTO has upto 7.5 hours of standard battery life.
However, other preconfigured Z Series laptop such as VGN-Z790DND, VGN-Z798Y/X, VGN-790DLX, VGN-790DKX, VGN-Z790DMR, and/or VGN-720D/B has upto 6 hours of standard battery life. It's mystery I was unable to figure out.
what's difference between Z790 and Z720? (I mean fundamental differences like circuitry design or expansion limitations such as maximum ram support and so. Couldn't figure this out... probably one of those model number decryption wizard would know it.)
I have an Acer 5100, AMD Turion 64x2, with Windows Vista (OEM, not an upgrade (downgrade)), and Vista SP1 is installed.
I still kick myself for buying this, but too late to cry over that. Lesson learned: Get the HP, Compaq, Dell, or Lenovo. Nobody's perfect, of course, but not everybody stinks and sucks and has a pathetic support site without live chat the way Acer does.
From day 1, it has had surprise shutdowns when not in use (as in, overnight or during periods of not being used), about once every week or two. Sometimes, it's not a total shutdown, but it just doesn't recover from suspend (The suspend/recover issue appears to be quite a common problem, lots of similar sounding posts out there on various forums: The fan spins, lights are on, jiggling the mouse (laser mouse) lights up the mouse as if the computer's responding, but the screen stays black). There's nothing obvious in Event Viewer.
In other words, it hasn't shut down on me while using it, but after leaving it, coming back the next day, it will about once every week or two either have shut down, or won't come out of suspend.
The final question, is the BIOS update on the Acer website says "Windows XP", and there isn't one for Vista.
It's definitely virus free, spyware free, rootkit free. FYI, also up to date on patches, and Vista SP1.
Sorry for the seemingly multiple-problem post, but I think they might all be related from this intriguing comment in the BIOS update release notes:
"1. SLOVE UMA S4 OVERNIGHT BLACKSCREEN"
I'm pretty sure they mean "Solve", since some other comments for other fixes say "Solve". Not knowing what they mean, but certainly suffering from something that could be called an overnight blackscreen, I'm tempted to try the BIOS update.
QUESTIONS...
1. There's a DOS and Windows subfolder in the zip file for the BIOS update. Safe to run the BIOS update from a command window?
2. the shutdown or failing to come out of sleep?
I cant find it on dell home website.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a somewhat pleased (after months of displeasure) SXPS1645 owner *points to sig* but after 5 months of carrying this thing with me to my campus daily (and pretty much everywhere else I go) this machine is heavy and big and bit overkill since when I'm outside I rarely use it for video editing and gaming which I tend to do at home. So for the Fall(ish) I'm going to be in the market for an ultraportable, but after using this machine it's going to be hard to go to a machine with a wimpy atom processor or even a ULV C2D. So I found the Adamo XPS and it appeals to me in the same way the SXPS did, an eye catching design that isn't bulky and still performs well. However looking at the specs currently available for it I was disappointed. It's using a hodgepodge of outdated parts. I wanted to basically start a thread on potential component refreshes for the Adamo XPS, in the hopes that by the time I'm ready to purchase one some of these things will become reality. Also I'm curious about other brands of ultraportables (NOT netbooks) that people use/have used and would recommend.

They basically take it completely apart. Very interesting with lots of photos.
I was surprised to learn the battery can't be replaced by the user...
Apples and oranges, I know. I've done the "what should I buy?" FAQ and have had my options whittled down, and I'm between these two at the moment.............................................................
View 10 Replies View RelatedI really need your advise on which one to go with. I prefer to test them out at the store. Unfortunately, I can't find any locally.
Anyhow, I can get the Adamo Admire on Dell (the 1.4GHz version) for $899 (with $100 EPP discount).
The Vostro V13 for $700 (w/o SSD). In fact, if I go with the V13, I may get the base version to save even more, but just to make a comparison, let's consider the $700 version.
I don't use this laptop for much heavy work. I have the Latitude D630 for that. I like to add a sexy machine for documentation, web browsing, and business travel. Occationally, I will compile some C code, but not often .....
Glimpse into...

I am purchasing the original Adamo (not the XPS) with the following specs.
(Pearl) Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor Lv SL9600 (2.13GHz, 6MB, 1066MHz)
UK - Irish Internal Keyboard (QWERTY) - Pearl
45W Adamo (Pearl) Power supply with UK power cord
4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR3
Intel 5300 wireless card, 802.11 a/g/n
1.3 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera
13.4" (16:9) 720p WLED Display
Dell Bluetooth 370 Card
What is the graphics card?
And can you do some light gaming on the lowest settings?
Is anyone ready for the Dell Adamo 13 to be release..............................................
View 10 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to upgrade the ram from 2 to 4gb on the Adamo Admire.
can`t see why it wouldn`t be but i wanted to check.
I started out with a M1210 and than moved to a MB Air. I like the Air but i really want to come back to Windows so would you recommend the Adamo or the Adam XPS ?
I really like that Adamo XPS but what do you think of the specs ? Will it preform well ? Would it preform as good as my Air with 120 SSD, Nvida Card and 2 GB Ram?
It is even thinner than the new Sony Vaio X.
I thought my Nokia E51 was thin at 12mm but this Adamo is just 9,99mm!Really insane.Take a look at the following links:

This notebook is so vastly overpriced I do not know how dell can stay in business when coming up with new products like this. Look at this...

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs the title suggests I am starting to see small air bubbles form under the glass on my Adamo 13 laptop - along the edge of the LCD monitor and the black border. I cannot seem to find any other reports of this issue on the web.
This laptop almost never leaves the house, or even the desk it sits on, and is otherwise in perfect condition. It is run in a 75-degree house, low humidity (Phoenix, AZ) - really no reason I can see as to why this would be happening, at least not from anything I am doing.
I currently have all Windows 7 PC's in my house. I find that it is easy to share foles and filders through Windows 7's "Homegroup" thing.
My question is:
If I have windows 7 running through parallels on a macbook pro, will with macbook pro show up in my homegroup?
On a side note I am also thinking of getting a 27" imac. I have an extra monitor so I would like to have windows 7 running on the external monitor, and os x on the main 27" screen.
I just want to make sure I can still share files easily with all the computers.
I've heard you can't, but don't actually see anything excluding that integrated 9400 on Nvidia's page.
Anyone know? (Or if you can't, can you force install the regular or notebook drivers through device manager as you can on Nvidia hardware under XP?)
To start I should remind everyone that i'm not a mac user. I have never owned a mac or used OSX properly before today. As such, my opinions should be taken as coming from someone who has much knowledge and experience as far as PC's are concerned, but who is a total mac n00b.
First Impressions
When I first walked over to the Macbooks I was quite taken aback. The build quality is out of this world. In fact, I immediately walked over to the latest PC laptops to compare and immediately thought "manufacturing FAIL". Really, the Macbooks are italian sports cars, and PC's are 30 year old farm tractors to use the typical "car analogy".
The Macbook
I really only had any interest in the Macbook when I first went to the Apple stand, but came away with the intention of buying a MacBook Pro. Let me explain:
The MacBook's build quality is awesome. It's solid, no creaking plastic or flexable build, completely and utterly solid. Awesome.............
I have been speculating over this prospect giving the direction that Apple took with the starting price of the 24" iMac (upgrade everything else and downgrade the VRAM).
I mean, this is something I would like to see, but I wonder if it is a smart move on Apple's part given how much they make off the current MBP's with the so called Apple Tax.
And, if they made this move, one has to wonder if it still would be considered a Pro.
This is going to be my very first Mac. I'm really excited about it, but I don't know which one I should go for... I narrowed it down to these two models. Which one should I go for and why?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought a black macbook this summer and every night when I'm in bed trying to do work I can barely see which keys is which. Obviously this wouldn't be a cheap fix but is there a way or is it possible to install the new light up keys of the new macbooks onto a pre-remodel macbook?
