Jun 21, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with an HDMI port. While the port was hooked to my AV receiver, I hit a few buttons on the receiver and somehow disabled the HDMI port on the Dell.
I cannot figure out how to reactivate the HDMI port. I know this is what happened--cable, receiver, balance of computer is all fine. Somehow, the received "talked" to the Dell and turned off or disabled the HDMI port or its driver, is my best guess.

Oct 5, 2009I have just bought an Aspire 5735 a few weeks ago and, to be fair, it's fantastic for the money; however, i've noticed that in spite of the screen being sharp it appears slightly grainy when i physically scan across the screen with my eyes?!! I have checked this against my 7 year old Sony Vaio but it doesn't have the same problem, it's a mystery...
I was kind of wondering if because the pixels where so closely produced (it is quite a compact 15.4" widescreen display) that it was a trick of the mind? The grainy effect is symetrical like a chequerboard pattern or herringbone!
If i stare at the screen without any physical movement the picture/graphics are pin sharp, it's only if I alter my viewing angle or scan the screen quickly with my peepers; maybe my brain just isn't sharp enough any more to de-code the data!
My exact model details are:- Aspire 5735, 4gb ram, 6400 intel core2duo, vista premium home edition.

Jul 23, 2009I've had eye on Z Series for couple days, but there exists a mystery I couldn't figure it out.
I've searched this forum and the net, still no answers.
On the sony's official USA website (www.sony.com)
Sony claims VGN-Z790 CTO has upto 7.5 hours of standard battery life.
However, other preconfigured Z Series laptop such as VGN-Z790DND, VGN-Z798Y/X, VGN-790DLX, VGN-790DKX, VGN-Z790DMR, and/or VGN-720D/B has upto 6 hours of standard battery life. It's mystery I was unable to figure out.
what's difference between Z790 and Z720? (I mean fundamental differences like circuitry design or expansion limitations such as maximum ram support and so. Couldn't figure this out... probably one of those model number decryption wizard would know it.)
Acer :: Mystery Crashes, Suspend Problems, And BIOS Update 5100
Nov 11, 2008I have an Acer 5100, AMD Turion 64x2, with Windows Vista (OEM, not an upgrade (downgrade)), and Vista SP1 is installed.
I still kick myself for buying this, but too late to cry over that. Lesson learned: Get the HP, Compaq, Dell, or Lenovo. Nobody's perfect, of course, but not everybody stinks and sucks and has a pathetic support site without live chat the way Acer does.
From day 1, it has had surprise shutdowns when not in use (as in, overnight or during periods of not being used), about once every week or two. Sometimes, it's not a total shutdown, but it just doesn't recover from suspend (The suspend/recover issue appears to be quite a common problem, lots of similar sounding posts out there on various forums: The fan spins, lights are on, jiggling the mouse (laser mouse) lights up the mouse as if the computer's responding, but the screen stays black). There's nothing obvious in Event Viewer.
In other words, it hasn't shut down on me while using it, but after leaving it, coming back the next day, it will about once every week or two either have shut down, or won't come out of suspend.
The final question, is the BIOS update on the Acer website says "Windows XP", and there isn't one for Vista.
It's definitely virus free, spyware free, rootkit free. FYI, also up to date on patches, and Vista SP1.
Sorry for the seemingly multiple-problem post, but I think they might all be related from this intriguing comment in the BIOS update release notes:
"1. SLOVE UMA S4 OVERNIGHT BLACKSCREEN"
I'm pretty sure they mean "Solve", since some other comments for other fixes say "Solve". Not knowing what they mean, but certainly suffering from something that could be called an overnight blackscreen, I'm tempted to try the BIOS update.
QUESTIONS...
1. There's a DOS and Windows subfolder in the zip file for the BIOS update. Safe to run the BIOS update from a command window?
2. the shutdown or failing to come out of sleep?

Dec 18, 2009I'm having trouble finding out what is wrong with my computer. When I power it on, nothing happens, the LEDs just cycle through as if it is going to power on, but then it just powers down. (Power led stays on).
But, when i hold the FN key, and try to click the power button, i get some flashing lights.
from left to right i get

Aug 17, 2009Basically the hard drive (of my XPS m1530) has been going a bit slower than usual recently.
I figured it was just Vista been more sluggish than usual.
So I decided I'd back it up, wipe it and install my new copy of Windows 7 RTM.
After booting from the DVD, setup stopped halfway through giving me this '0x00000e9' error code.
I subsequently ran the dell diagnostics.
Which gave me this :
Hard Drive - DST
Test Results : Fail
Error code 2000-0142
Msg : hard drive 1 - Self test unsuccessful.
Status : 70

I had two 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-55-12 sticks of ram in my laptop.
I purchased 2 x 2GB 200PIN DDR2 SODIMM 256MX64 sticks to install.
When i put in the new sticks I get 2 short beeps and it doesn't finish booting the the OS.
Am I doing something wrong? I know that the OS will only recognize 3Gb but it should at least boot right?

Sep 1, 2009I have a Studio 1737 with Bluetooth connection. I have used it in the past to send data between PC and phone. Now it is not working.
Device manager says devcie cannot start code 10
Reinstalling drivers tell me to turn on the device using FN+F2 or radio on/off switch.
Dell XPS 12 :: Touch Screen Not Working - I2C HID Device (Code 10)
Sep 26, 2014My XPS 12 Duo touch screen stopped working one day.
My Device Manager shows that the I2C HID Device is not working (With a status of: This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE
I'm not sure why as nothing changed... that I know of.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, I have made sure all drivers are up dated (as on dell.com), and eventually I even formatted the HDD thinking some update must have caused this.
Unfortunately I have had no luck.
Just to add, Dell replaced my screen (due to ghost images) about a month ago - I'm thinking this could be the cause.
Dell XPS L702x :: Will Not Boot Up - Error Code 0146
Apr 8, 2013I am having a major issue with my Dell XPS L702x laptop at the moment, in that it cannot boot up at all, rendering it completely unusable.
When this first happened, the laptop used to progress through the dell screen, the 'starting windows' screen, and then just hang at a blank screen, or with a blank screen with the windows 7 background and a mouse cursor. This happened in both normal startup and attempting safe mode.
I have tried starting in best last known configuration, resetting the bios to default settings. I eventually got startup repair to work, but it didn't do anything, nor did system restore.
I run diagnostics, and receive this error right at the beginning of the test:
ERROR CODE 0146.
Msg: Error Code 2000-0146
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - self test log contains previous error(s).
I continue the diagnostics and everything else passes okay.
However, now when I try to boot my PC up in normal or in safe mode, I get past the dell and windows startup screen and instead of the hang I simply get a blue screen error:
BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO.
STOP: 0x00000074
I have also had the blue screen errors c000021a, and 0xc0000221. But primarily am now getting the bad_system_config_info every time.

Took fan out (it wasn't even dirty) and jumpered red & black wires (p.s. don't know what yellow wire is for) to a 5 volt dc power source - fan worked fine. Put laptop all back together - fan still not coming on...

Dell :: E6400 Blue Screen Code 9f On Sleep/shutdown
Mar 7, 2009Just got a new E6400 and even before VISTA had fully loaded 1st time, it had bluescreened and showed a minidump with errorcode 9F = DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
Error occurs very often when going to sleep mode, and sometimes when doing reboot or shutdown.
Computer then hangs for 5-10-15 minutes before rebooting and showing the VISTA error report. Now, 2 days after 1st power on, I've had probably 10 BSOD's during sleep / restart / poweroff operations .....

Jun 30, 2011I have an Inspiron 1505 about five years old. Lately my computer has been freezing and shutting down for no reason. I can be just reading and it'll freeze. This isn't the first time it has been happening. Back in April I had the same problem. The error message indicated that my hard drive was going bad so it was replaced. Now it's doing it again. This time I got error code M1004. From what I read, this is something about heating. What I have noticed is that the bottom of my laptop runs extremely hot. Will getting a cooling pad?

Feb 10, 2013PXE-E53: No boot filename received.The client received at least one valid DHCP/BOOTP offer, but does not have a boot filename to download. There are several possible causes:
• The 060 DHCP option is not set during installation, on Windows Server 2008 with the DHCP service, is installed locally. To resolve this issue, modify the following PXE configuration option if DHCP service is required to be installed locally: Open the PXE Configuration Utility, select the PXE Server tab, and for DHCP Server discovery select the No DHCP server installed on PXE server (Use DHCP port) option.
• The DHCP Server and the PXE Server were located on the same server, but one of them was moved to a different server. This would result in an incorrect PXE Server configuration. To resolve this issue, reinstall the PXE Server component of the Altiris Deployment Solution.
• The DHCP relay agent, either a Proxy DHCP Server or a switch configured with helper addresses, is not configured correctly. For example, if DHCP and PXE are on separate servers, the DHCP relay agent needs to have both addresses in its configuration. To resolve this issue, correct the DHCP relay agent configuration.
• If the Microsoft DHCP service is installed on the PXE server, but is disabled or unconfigured, Altiris PXE Setup configures PXE to work with the local DHCP service (even if the DHCP service is disabled). This causes the PXE server to not respond to PXE clients that get a DHCP address from DHCP services running elsewhere on the network. To resolve this issue, remove Microsoft DHCP services from the PXE server and reinstall the PXE Server component of the Altiris Deployment Solution.
• A firewall or network security software is enabled in the network environment.

Dell Inspiron M5010 :: Short Beep Code Upon Startup
Feb 7, 2013I recently went to turn on my computer, Dell's Inspiron M5010, today and was surprised to hear it beeping. After I got out from behind cover, i logged onto another computer in the house. Counting 7 short beeps, I have come to learn that there must be an issue with with either the processor or the motherboard. This is the point where I am at currently. I would like to know the next step to take from this point, whether buying a simple new part would do the trick, or if it is time to turn it into a scrap heap and get something new. I suppose there could be some further testing whether it is either the processor or the motherboard with the issue.

Dell Inspiron M5010 :: 7 Beep Code Even After Replacing The Motherboard
Oct 1, 2013I am reporting with the same issue where my motherboard was replaced for 7 beep code and still the issue didn't get resolved. Issue Reoccurred again--again i am getting 7 beep codes. When I checked the motherboard part no and it is the same motherboard which have replaced for this issue. As I informed earlier that the motherboard which was installed for the INSPIRON M5010 have bump cracks around the solder on AMD chip resulting in no post with 7 beep code. The onsite tech replaced the motherboard and it was working fine for 2 weeks and again I am getting the 7 beep code. I am dell customer for past one decade and I owned so many Inspiron and xps laptop but this laptop is giving me trouble. If I get HDD error or any other part failure I would say yes it is due to usage and I would pay for the parts but if I get issue due to manufacture defects than dell should find solution to fix it. How come I am getting same issue even after part replacement within 2 weeks? I would request you to take required action to come out with solution. I am ok with refurbished motherboard but it should not be the same Class or type of part as it is resulting into same 7 beep code. There are 2 types of motherboard in M501R---AMD(tm) RS880M/SB820. And I got my laptop replaced with the same part RS880M which has known issue. My computer <edited for TOU violation> . I believe dell should fix this issue for me as it is known issue with these models.
