Dell :: E1705 :: Battery Is No Long Working
Apr 30, 2009
So I've owned my piece of crap Dell 1705 for less than 3 years now.
The cosmetics of the laptop itself is in perfect condition but everything inside seems to be busted.
Issues:
1. Battery is no long working .
2. Headphone jack broken, in return the speakers will no longer work.
3. ** Go 7900gs is busted leading to BSOD parity error every 5-10 minutes

Last night I was using my E1705 running on battery when the thing just suddenly zapped off. I had recently glanced at the battery meter which was 75% full. I pressed the button on the actual battery which shows 3 of 5 lights on the charge meter.
The battery itself is only 1 month old and has been performing flawlessly. I just thought it was something random so I plugged the machine in and it started up.
I didn't think anything else of it till today when I went to move my laptop, removed the power cord, and the laptop turned off. I checked the physical battery meter which still reads 3 of 5 lights .....

I bought a Z in July and notice the battery time is short and short? in July it can last more than 2.5 hours even at 80% charge, now is 1 hour only, is battery care working? I think Sony is quite poor in battery management area, they should provide a application list thinkpad to test the current then tell you how long it can last.

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate, downloaded software/installed software the entire time, and browsed the internet).
Anyway, I plugged it in today, and it's been charging for just over 4 hours now and it's only at 78%...is this unusually slow to charge? Should I send mine back? I've never had a proper working battery take this long to charge, even 9 cells.

While I was almost a 100% certain my next laptop would be the asus ul30jc, I just saw the folowing laptop in a local advertisement and I must say i'm tempted (being a student, I use almost all of my free money on vacation, food and alcohol so every saved € counts):
Compaq Mini 311c
Intel Atam N270 (1.6ghz)
1 GB RAM
160 GB HDD
Nvidia ION LE (shared memory)
Wifi b/g
Windows XP home (service pack3)
Battery info unknown, though most sites say it has a 6 cell battery.
359€
So I have a few questions. First and most importent of all, I need to know how long the battery will last, if its +7 hours i'm content.
Second, I have no idea what kind of wifi I need, I use that white Belgacom Digital TV Router so perhaps my fellow Belgians can help me on this? When I use system information it says my wifi in my current laptop is A/G/N.
Third, will I be able to install the newest microsoft office programs (I have 2003, 2007 and will most likely buy 2010 aswell) on windows xp home?
Last but not least, will I see a big difference if I upgrade from 1gb of 2gb of ram? I noticed a big difference on my current laptop when I upgraded my ram, but since that hp compac has a very weak processor, it might be pointless since that cpu might bottleneck the effect?

I've got a Dell Insipron E1705, and about 2 days ago my Battery would charge fine with the AC Adapter plugged in.
I ran it without the Adapter plugged in yesterday, the battery got down to about 34%, and I shut it down. I got home and plugged in the AC Adapter to charge it, and it would say "Plugged in, Charging" but the battery has stayed at 34%. I shut my laptop down, and let the Battery charge while it was off. Today I turn my laptop on, and it is still at 34%, saying "Plugged in, charging." The Battery sign with the lightning bolt through it turns off for several minutes, then comes on for about a minute or so, and turns off again for several minutes, repeating that process.
I'm running on Vista home premium.

my E1705 has trouble booting whenever its on the battery. At first I thought it may be a defective battery but I just bought a new one and it still does the same thing. It will power on but the monitor will not turn on. Everything is perfect if its plugged into the adapter and will start every time, just not on battery. It will take about 15-20 times of on and off with the power button, and THEN it will turn on with the battery. After I get it to boot a few times, it boots everytime on the battery, its very strange, it seems like it needs to "warm up" before it works ...

First have 2 drives of course. main drive and a Optical 2 SATA or PATA.
my howto is for a 320 and a 250 raided giving you 250/250 =465 real gb of space.
first partition the 320 drive when installing XP PRO so that you have your main partition 70gb and the rest leave for later. also just leave the other drive for later as well.
Install windows XP pro on the 70gb partition.
get your drivers etc programs etc and all other shit that you want setup.
next hack the registry to enable Dynamic Drives on XP-PRO. Funny cuz they say that you can't get dynamic drives on notebooks. not even with XP PRO.
go into :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServices
and change the following
.
in the services dir there is each reg dir and the corresponding start value.
you must change the start value to whats below.
dmadmin: 3
dmboot: 4
dmio: 0
dmload: 0
dmserver: 2
after that reboot.
then go into control panel, admin tools, computer management and then disk management.
right click on the windows drive and click on convert to dynamic.
it will pop up with a list of drives you have *2 of course cuz thats all we have* so check the other drive. and convert to dynamic. just say ok to the next few things it asks you. and reboot.
after reboot go back into disk management and right click on the second partition in the windows drive and click "new volume" and choose stripped in the list for what kind of volume. click next until format and do a quick format.
bingo you just created a raid 0 drive which will not be redundant but will be UBER QUICK.
mine has a 8ms response time.
sorry for my crappy howto. but I really wanted raid in my notebook and there was no howto's so it took alot of digging.

i am using acer aspire 5600 xp/vista and LION battery.
my battery had memory effect once and could work for like 15-20 min.but its indicator worked fine at that time.
but now memory effect is gone and i am now facing a new problem.
At full charging, system shows that battery is not connected even it is connected.even if i unplug the AC supply still it thinks that notebook is running from AC supply.During this period i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad.I Can use only externally connected keyboard and mouse.
While notebook is using the laptop battery(Ac Unplugged),after sometime it detects the battery and the indicator shows 7% of battery time. Then my notebook keyboard and touchpad starts to work and then this percentage decreases to 0%. The time between shift of percentage is approx 10 min . Even On 0% the battery works fine and works for like 15 min. Overall Battery can work for like 1 hr 30 min approx(Low Performance).
My main problem is i cant use my laptop keyboard and touchpad while the battery is fully charged. i have to drain my battery in order to use keyboard and touchpad.

I changed my battery from original to an aftermarket one as the original battery died. But after changing the battery the monitor flickers for few seconds and everything goes blank.
I put back my original battery, not working (Before it was working with Mains on)
I removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10 seconds and then I put back and connected mains. Again the display flickers and everything goes blank after few seconds.

For those of you who have had a faulty laptop and had it exchanged could you let me know how long it takes?
I purchased a Dell Mini 10v from the outlet well over a month ago. It arrived July 14 and was faulty straight out of the box (crackling, hissing noise). It was sent to the depot, returned several days later,
and when I turned it on the same problem was still there. It's some problem with the speakers not working properly. I call Dell again. The laptop was sent to the depot a second time--it just got returned a couple days ago .....

Dell Studio not turning on? Â I've had this happen several times.
On previous times, I would take the battery out for a day or 2, put back in and it would turn on. Â Unfortunately, this time, no-can-do!

"Work In Progress" What does this mean & how long will it take?
Dell says:
Work In Progress
If you personalized your computer, it's being prepared for production. If you ordered an accessory, software or ink, your order is being prepared for packing.
Does this mean they are making it? Or does it mean its getting all the stuff (e.g hard drive) to make it?

I'm just starting my 5th year with my Inspiron 6000. Bought it in August 2005 for just under $800 out the door.
I was planning on buying a new one but I realized that everything in that price range these days isn't really a huge improvement over what I already have, and since the thing still works, there's really no need to upgrade.
I have had to make a few fixes over the years (upgraded HD, RAM, new keyboard, screen/inverter, battery, top bezel, power jack, power adapter) but at this point it's almost a matter of pride to be able to fix something for $15 or $20 by just buying the part on eBay and maybe spending 30-60 minutes with a screwdriver.

I was wondering if anyone has orderd a Studio 1555 and if so, how long does it take to get it. I have been waiting since June 11th.
I have been in contact with Dell support, Executive Escalation and have now contacted Unresolved issues. I am about ready to cancel and buy an Apple or something that can be delivered in a resonable time.

I just purchased an Acer Extensa notebook and had a couple of questions regarding working off the battery. I'll be using the notebook 99 percent of the time on AC, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a battery procedure the first time it's charged.
1. The battery is fully charged for the first time. Should I work off the battery to use a full charge, then recharge the battery and repeat the process to get the optimum performance from the battery?
2. To work off the battery, can I just disconnect the DC-in jack and leave the AC Adapter plugged in, then just reattach the DC-in jack when I want to work off AC again? Does this pose any risk to the notebook?

For all you M1530 owners, how long have you had it for and is the 'defective' GPU still working fine?
For those that had the M1530 or had it replaced, how long did the GPU last before it died?
Also, please mention whether you undervolt/undervolted your CPU and use/used a notebook cooler as I think this would affect the life of it.
Had mine since April '08 and the current motherboard since December '08. Undervolted CPU and notebook cooler. Still working perfectly.
These questions are relevant to my big question here:
XPS M1530 - Keep or Sell?
The poll is just for summaries sake but an actual response with the details would be appreciated. Also, the poll is only for M1530's you bought new. i.e. not refurbished, second hand.

So I just got my new 1647 replacement set up finally and one thing I keep running into is an INCREDIBLY long black load screen between the windows 7 animation thingy and when you actually log in..
Even the windows 7 animation takes longer to load than normal...Than I get a black screen for a good 2 minutes before my mouse then shows up then about another 30 secs I get the login finally...
Whats going on? I have my old 1640 side by side and it boots instantly!
