Nov 5, 2008I'm curious to hear what experiences you all have had with laptops from Dell Outlet (looking at Latitude D630). Was it a scratch-and-dent, refurbished, previously ordered new, etc.?
I would upgrade to 3-year Pro Support and Warranty and buy additional accessories (docking station, router, etc.).
Is it worth the risk? Will they take it back no questions asked or do I have to pay 15% restocking fee? (Dell was ambiguous about this).

Jul 30, 2009i'm looking into getting another studio 1555 to see if it has the same fan issues mine has.
If it does, i would most likely return it, but if it doesn't i'll keep it and sell mine. Was just wondering if they offer free returns or if there's a restocking fee.

I'm concerned that Apple's extremely short definition of (planned) obsolescence might be reflected in their product design and manufacturing... I mean, it's not uncommon to expect to get 5 years of use out of a Thinkpad, but I think I'd get weird stares if I told people I expected to use an MBP for 5 years
Dell :: Why/How Did My Order Ship So Quickly?
Mar 28, 2010I ordered the system in my sig early morning on 3/24. At the time of the order, it was estimated to ship on 4/2 with an estimated delivery date of 4/9. When I called to check the status the next day (3/25), it stated that the order was processing. When I checked again later that night, it said it was shipped on 4/6. I checked the status again the next morning (3/26), and this time it said it was shipped on 3/28 with an updated estimated delivery date of 3/31. Now today, on the 28th, I got the 'order has shipped' email along with the FedEx tracking number. FedEx's estimated delivery date is 3/30.
Anyone have any idea why or how my order could have shipped so quickly? I never did catch it in the kitting/build/testing/boxing stages...and these stages usually take at least a few days. Could I be receiving a recently returned system that just happened to have the same specs? It seems almost unheard of to receive a new system in less than a week after ordering it...especially when considering that they are built overseas and that I picked standard 7-day shipping. Is there any way I can tell if it is a returned system?
My friends and family somewhat jokingly said maybe it's because of my previous order history. I ordered the SXPS 1645 in late November, but later ended up cancelling the order in December due to the throttling issues it was having at the time. When I cancelled the order, it was already in the build stage for a day or two. Could Dell maybe have noticed my history and "rushed" my order this time?

Jun 25, 2009How accurate are the preliminary shipping dates posted when you are customizing a system online? If I select an option that may delay the ship date, is the estimated delay only a precaution or does it actually delay by that much?

May 27, 2009I ordered a Dell Prcision M4400 mobile workstation on April 27th. It is now MAY 27th and I STILL don't have my computer!
Every week, on the day the order is scheduled to ship, the shipping date is suddenly shifted one more week away. So far, this has happened to me 4 times!
When I call Dell they always assure me that such-and-such is the ship date, but then, yet again, the ship date is delayed another week. It doesn't matter if I explain what has been happening - they just repeat back like a parrot that the system says that it will ship on such-and-such a date.
I can see that for myself on the website! What I wanted was some kind of an explaination for the ridiculous delays and some kind of an assurance that I'll be getting my computer sometime within the current epoch

Jan 19, 2009Why does Dell play this whole game of "boxing"? Apparently they ship your finished product from Malaysia to the U.S., then after spacing out a bit they ship it to YOU.
Why not ship from Malaysia to the customer?? I ordered HP a month ago, they built it in 8 days (not "business days", human days).
And shipped it straight to me, then I received it 2 days later (with '5-7' day shipping)

Nov 13, 2008Has anyone encountered abnormally long ship dates for recently ordered laptops?
I ordered a Studio 15 / Mini 9 combo about a week ago and the ESD for the Mini 9 is next week, and the ESD for the Studio 15 is early December. In the past I've gotten my custom-ordered laptops within a week of ordering.
I also noticed that the Purchase ID info does not show billing or shipping info, although I did receive email confirmation with that info.
What's going on? Will I receive lemons because Dell is making everyone take unpaid leave?

Jun 6, 2009i'm considering buying an e6400 from the outlet and i've been trying for days to find a configuration that i'm happy with. i've noticed that the hardest to get "right" are the screen and battery which is where this question comes in.
when i get an outlet "scratch/dent" or "cert refurb" are the batteries the original ones or are they new? i ask because if they're the old ones, there isn't too much of a point in getting a 9 cell over 6 cell because the batteries have probably lost a bit of capacity already.

(instead of a 2.4 P from the outlet) but with only 30 days warranty! I hear that dell outlet offers 3 years warranty...
I don't know much about Precision station quality or reliability so I want to know your opinion about which I should go for. In my head
