Dell :: Outlet Business Down?
May 9, 2009
Pardon me if this is in the wrong section. But I was going to buy a refurbished Dell Latitude, but when I try clicking on check inventory button, it says sorry page not found.
Is anyone else having this problem? I know the home section works, only the business section doesn't

When Purchasing a Dell Latitude E4300.. Do I have to have a company in order to make a purchase for the Latitude E4300? I'm just buying it as a personal computer.. not a business.

I was attempting to buy a Dell Vostro 1510 yesterday, but Dell sent me an email saying they have declined my debit card due to incorrect details. Apparently this is something they've done to quite a few people.
It may be due to my having to supply a company name because I was buying through Dell business, and them expecting the company name I gave to be part of my official debit card address, which it is obviously not. I don't have an officially registered business.
In any case they are not being very helpful about it. I updated my details on my account on the website and removed my 'company' name and have asked them to try and redo the payment, but so far getting no response. I'm considering phoning them but I doubt that they will understand what I'm talking about and of course I will have to deal with the tricky aspect of my not really being a business, but ordering through dell business.
I'm concerned that they will ask me to repeat my order now that the special offer on the laptop is expired.

So, being a consumer, how would I go about buying from Dell Small Business without actually being a business?
Is there anything special one needs to do to be able to purchase from Dell Small business?

So my Dell XPS M1730 finally got shipped this morning! (Yay). The thing is the dell person expedited my order and gave me free next business day delivery.
Since it got shipped today, shouldn't it come tomorrow (Hence the name next business day)? The dell estimated delivery date says the 29th ( Which I won't be home on )

i have noticed on the dell site that they have replaced their high end systems with alienware...what a laughter for such a large company...cannot dell make there own systems anymore...even the high end desktops are being replaced with
alienware...its like chevy replacing there impala with a buick...bad move. lot of things dell had been doing lately that is non -consumer....sort of got to the point where i don,t look at the dells anymore...
so many notebooks that are non- configurable....no amd,s cpu anymore, no doubt intels are a bit faster in the desktop., but amds would be a nice second choice,,,,and they are not that much slower.
lot of bad decisions by the top brass at dell...when i buy a system,,,i want some configuration options....in a notebook, i usually want nivida, because i like to mess with linux...doens,t dell understand things like this...i don,t think they even think about it.

I asked Dell Tech Support to send me the install media for Vista Business 64-bit for my E6500. They said that since my System Type is "X86-based PC," I won't be able to run 64-bit. Is there no workaround? Is that really true? My refurb laptop came with XP Pro installed as a downgrade from Vista Business 32-bit. It has a T9600 processor. Does anyone have experience installing Vista Business 64-bit on a laptop like mine?

i wanted to buy a refurbished e6400 from the outlet and wanted to know how does the dedicated graphics card on it run? the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M With PC-Card. also how is the customer service and do they charge a restocking fee for the business side and do they pay for the shipping back to them?
also how is the build quality of them? are they that great compared to a lenovo y530/550, cuz i like the design of the ideapads but there not as reliable as the thinkpads.
also does dell usually have like free shipping or discounts for the business outlet cuz i know they did for home.
and the Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD With Express Card or like the ones WITH PC-CARD are they much different from the regular 4500mhd or x4500?

I browsed through both dell.com and dell small business and I was wondering what was the difference? Am I not allowed to order from dell small business if I'm not a business? Also which ones tend to have better deals if their inventory is same/similar?

But all the batteries I find online say they are only 11.1v?? So is there a wrong battery in here or are battery sellers just faking buyers out by upping their advertised Wh/Ah by listing a lower than actual voltage?
This is a common practice one sees all the time in RV battery manufacturer ratings - but a 3.7 volt difference is a lot if the system requires 14.8 to operate and it's only getting 11.1.
It certainly isn't a bargain to get "higher Wh/Ah" by starving the system's voltage because then all your getting is sluggish/strained performance for a longer period of time, and if they put out the required voltage than sellers are lying about the actual caqpacity...

About a month after I purchased my E1705 I received a call from Dell trying to sell me an extended warranty. I gave my normal 'not interested' response and they came back with a really good deal for a 4-year Next Business Day + Nights and Weekends extended warranty. I'm now covered until 2010, assuming I'm still using the NB by then.
I ran into a problem with the NB on Wednesday AM (Eastern US) and called them around 10:30. The system would briefly light the power and disk leds and then immediately shut off (about 1/3 second of time total). I went through about 45 minutes of troubleshooting before they decided that they need to dispatch a tech. During the troubleshooting they had me remove HD, memory, WiFi and CD-ROM and went through various combinations along with a 'hold the power button down for 30 seconds'.
The tech showed up Thursday PM and swapped the motherboard but the problem persisted. Because he only had the motherboard as a spare he had to call in and request a graphics card and processor sub-assembly. He told me he would be in on Friday by noon and that I would be his first appointment.
Today (Friday) I checked around 3:00 PM and the tech hadn't arrived. I called the dispatch number and they told me that the parts hadn't been shipped from Dell. I then called Dell and they told me that the graphics card (6800) was on backorder and that it would probably be another 2-3 business days but they couldn't confirm.
Am I incorrect in thinking that purchasing a 'Next Business Day / Nights and Weekends' warranty should get you a next day repair? Right now I'm looking at a next WEEK repair. After speaking with Dell it appears that next day applies to each individual step in the elimination process and that all bets are off if they don't have the part stocked.

I just got my e6400 and the first thing I see when I boot is this stoopid BSOD, "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer"
I have vista ultimate. I went into the bios and everything seems ok. I fear a memory problem. I am running the diagnostic tests but I don't have much hope on them.

I may be wrong but it looks like dell ireland have increased all the prices in their small business site by 10%! The base prices are the same but upgrading anything is now 10% more expensive.
Just from looking at precision laptops.
Upgrade to 64bit os was 50 euro, now 55 euro.
Component example, yesterday it cost 440 euro to update the graphics card on a m6400 from a FX2700M to a FX3700M, today it costs 490 for the same upgrade

I'm thinking about installing Windows Vista Business 64 bit (replacing the current 32 version of the same) on my SZ-483N.
Now my only concern is if in fact the drivers available for my notebook at the following website, will actually work on the 64 bit version of the windows. Any help or information in this regards will be duly appreciable.

Have Vaio K23, P4 2.8GHz, .5 GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, 15.25" screen. Like it alot and it has served me well for many years. Time to upgrade due to speed and need for more memory. Will not give up screen size due to sight problems.
Have spec'd new FW 390 w/Core 2 Duo P8600 processor @ 2.4GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD and 16.5" screen, direct from Sony at $939. Seems reasonable given the pricing I see on Ebay for comparable FW's, both new and refurbs.
Does anyone use their FW for business app's? I am told this is primarily a MultiMedia box. I will use it only for business purposes and could care less about Blue Ray, gaming, video, etc.. I only occasioanlly require mobility so size/weight do not matter but I do not want clutter of a desktop all over my desk top!

I have an Upgrade dvd Vista business to Win 7 that I received for my z790. Finally got around to install Win 7 and seems like I will need to install Vista first to be able to use the upgrade DVD. Any workaround?
My secondary objective is to install new SSD.The way I see it now:
1. Ghost XP on SSD
2. Install Vista on SSD
3. Install Win 7 on SSD
Is there an easier way to do it? Any more pitfalls to avaoid? Thanks!
the only Win 7 key that I have is the upgrade Vista to Win 7. Am I correct that retail/all versions install Win 7 disk will not let me use this key?

Are the products sold through the Dell Outlet as good as ordering brand new? I am interested in a Studio 15 laptop, but a new one is beyond my budget.
A previously ordered new can be bought in the outlet for as little as about $650 or so. What am I losing by buying from the outlet rather than new?
