Dell Alienware M14x :: SSD Can't Be Detected In BIOS?

I was trying to install a new SSD in place of my old HDD. But after I installed the SSD, there is no detection in BIOS. The old HDD works fine. I don't know how to solve this issue. Is it related to the firmware of my SSD? I got this SSD from a friend, it was installed on a server before.
Dell Alienware M14x R1 :: IO Operation Retries
Mar 5, 2013I have an Alienware M14x R1, which I recently added a Samsung 840 SSD hard drive to. I have kept the original 750GB hard drive in the laptop aswell.
I have installed Windows 8 and the laptop boots and seems to work fine. When I access anything off of the second hard drive (the original drive) the laptop slows right down, occasionally freezing. I check the Event Viewer and there are warnings appearing about every 30 seconds, here are some examples:
The IO operation at logical block address 744a158 for Disk 1 was retried.
The IO operation at logical block address 73bb0a8 for Disk 1 was retried.
The IO operation at logical block address 7291ab8 for Disk 1 was retried.
I updated the driver on the laptop to see if that would fix the problem. After installing all the drivers I found my laptop would no longer boot. I would see the WIndows loading screen (with the spinning progress indicator) and it would continue to seem like it was loading for over an hour. I then powered down the laptop, and Window detected that it failed to boot. WIndows attempted to fix itself, but failed, and I was stuck with a laptop that could only attempt to boot then failed repairing itself.
I reformatted an started again. I was having the same slow access problems to the second hard drive and seeing exactly the same message in the Event Viewer. This time I installed the driver one at a time, rebooting after each. I found that when I installed the latest version of the 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' driver, my computer failed to boot.
Am I supposed to be using a different version of the Rapid Storage Technology driver?
Dell Alienware M14x :: MS Spike Lag When Playing Games
Dec 7, 2014I seem to be getting MS/Ping lags when playing on my Alienware M14x. Every now and then I get random spikes. It stays good for a couple of seconds and then it suddenly it spikes. I have tried running different games and I still get same problems. I uninstalled my WiFi driver and still same problem. I don't know what step I should take next, It is also not overheating, I manage to keep it at a steadt 50. I will now post some of my specs.

Dell Alienware M14x :: Black Screen 5 Beeps
Mar 29, 2013sometimes when i boot up my laptop i hear 5 beeps and the screen stays black. computer doesnt boot just keeps doing that. Usually boots after turning it off and on after that. Also when it does boot up after having the beeping sequence the clock on my computer is reset.
This is from a brand new m14x rs laptop (alienware) that i just bought.

Jan 22, 2015I have an Alien M14x that when turned on displays the message "checking media" then the message "no boot device found hit any key to reboot". Of course when you hit a key it restarts the messages. I followed another feed and hit F2 to reset defaults with F9 with no success. When I tried to diagnose with F12 it says hard drive not installed???!! Haven't altered or changed anything and it stopped working less than 2 years old but out of warranty.

Well, let me explain. When I press the left button, it detects that BOTH buttons are pressed. And when I press the right button, it detects that BOTH buttons are pressed.
I temporarily got around this by going into the Dell touchpad software and setting the "Both Buttons" to "Click.

Feb 12, 2010Anyone experience this issue? I just woke my laptop up from sleep and noticed the quickset buttons are stuck. The STOP (SQUARE) key is brighter lit than all the other keys and none of the touch sensitive buttons work.

Sep 10, 2014Studio XPS 1647 laptop can't boot past POST and stuck at Dell splash screen with progress bar at ~80%. After holding down FN and pressing the power button, all three volume LEDS would flash twice, immediately followed by the volume UP and DOWN keys flashing, and then followed by just the Volume Down LED flashing.
Recently my Studio XPS 1647 has had overheat problems, and sometimes they would cause BSOD with broken screen images. The BSOD always came with bcode 116 error: this is apparently video card related. So last weekend I opened the case, removed the heat sink and the fan. The heat sink vent was completely blocked with a thick layer of dirt, so it's no wonder for overheating. I cleaned up the heatsink vent and the fan, cleaned up the top of CPU chip and the top of GPU chip, reapplied thermal paste and put everything back together. After that, the machine couldn't pass the Dell splash screen on boot. I've already checked the discussions here and followed suggestions on holding down the power button to remove static, reseating the memory card etc., but they are of no use.
Finally I followed the instructions on starting up ePSA. I've tried it repeatedly, and every time the boot always stuck at the Dell splash screen with the progress bar at about 80% with or without applying ePSA. The SPA screen never came up if I held down FN+Power button. The difference between a generic boot and a PSA boot is that if I held down FN+Power button, all three volume LEDS would flash twice, immediately followed by the volume UP and DOWN keys flashing, and then followed by just the Volume Down LED flashing.
I've read from a few discussions talking about all three volume LEDS flashing would be a motherboard problem. But in my case it's three LEDs flashing twice, followed by volume UP and DOWN keys flashing once, and then followed by just the Volume Down LED flashing continuously. What this PSA blinking code means?
HP/Compaq :: HP HDX 16Touch Buttons Faulty- Adjusts Volume/bass And Turns Off Wireless Randomly
Jun 10, 2009if anyone has had the same problem as me with the HP HDX 16. Randomly, even as I am typing here, the volume bar (with treble, bass etc) will appear on screen and will increase/reduce very quickly as if im pushing down on the touch buttons, this stops me being able to type, sometimes crashing the computer.
At the same time, this fault also occurs for the wireless LAN button to the far right, which will randomly disable (turn red) as if i'd touched it, sometimes causing the desktop to crash but more importantly causing me to lose connection and have to reconnect on a frequent basis.
I've had the notebook for over 6 months, and while i did have this occur on very rare occasions, since a couple days ago it has increased to a point where it happens all the time, including after a restart. I have tried searching through google to see if the problem is known, and i have seen a similar account on a customer review website. I have used HP health check and followed the updates supplied including that for the touch smart buttons and a BIOS flash.

Jan 1, 2014I've recently installed Windows 8 on an SL500 Lenovo ThinkPad. One of the three messages in Action Center is a problem with the hotkey utility. Lenovo's Support page recommended installing gevu65ww.exe. The current version is 4.22.1000. After this is installed, I click on "finish" and get the notice that "this program does not support this system. The volume/mute buttons next to the keyboard have not worked since upgrading to Windows 8. The Windows 8.1 has the same problem.

Sep 25, 2007I got my Inspiron 1520 and discovered a little chippng on top and a missing wireless switch. Also I was kinda misled by the sales representative into buying the 4 GRAM,which the system can't even fully recognize.

which is what the Dell sells for on eBay (where I'm shopping).
The Dell specs:
Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83GHz

No HDD
The Alienware specs:
Pentium M Centrino 2GHz
1GB RAM
ATI X1600 256mb
80GB HDD
So the determining factor of my choice is gaming. Yes, I know, they both suck for gaming, but I don't mean today's latest, greatest games. Plus I'm fine with low resolutions.
Anyways, the Dell's processor is a lot better, but the Alienware's graphics card is a lot better. I've researched them both extensively. I also plan on eventually upgrading the Alienware's graphics card to the 8600M GS (which is possible).

The studio XPS 16 has everything I want in a laptop minus a gaming video card. The alienware looks very slick and has a decent video card.

Jun 5, 2009I had virtually decided on a XPS M1730 with a X9000 Extreme processer, Bluray read and write drive, 6GB ram, 1920 x 1200 screen, 640GB hard drive of ram, Nvidia 1GB 9800M GT Graphics (2x512MB in SLI mode) etc
I then started to read this forum about Dell taking over Alienware and i read up on the Alienware M17X, i have natural concerns with whats going to happen with the XPS gaming brand now that Dell have taken over Alienware to be its gaming division.
1. What sort of XPS customer care will i get in the future now that Dell seems to be putting most of its gaming resources into Alienware, will Dell carry on to manufacture parts for the XPS M1730 in the future just incase something goes wrong and how long for ?
2. If you had the choice to buy at this present time would it be an XPS M1730 or would you save up and spend a bit extra on the Alienware M17X, i want to get it right and to have no regrets.

Feb 11, 2010So I ordered my Alienware Area-51 with a bunch of upgrades totaling at something like $5000 on January 22nd. It has been in the "In Production" stage for a while and today they sent me an email saying the delivery date was changed to February 23rd. It was initially supposed to be shipped by February 16th.
So I'm wondering if "In Production" means they have actually started building the computer, or if there is a chance they are still processing payment information. Is there any chance they haven't confirmed the payment at this point, I would consider canceling the order.
Secondly, when Dell gives you a delayed ETA, how often do they delay the system from arriving further? I'm worried that a week and a half from now I will get another email saying I won't be getting my system until March.
