View 10 RepliesI have bought a Battery for my Studio 1555 so how can I verify that
1. battery is Brand new and not tampered at all.
2. And any way to register the battery for the warranty.
3. What is covered under warranty..?
Dell uses a selection of display panels from different manufacturers on laptops, even if they are described by dell as being the exact same display when you ordered your laptop.
For example, if you were going to order an XPS M1530 with a WSXGA+ resolution, you have about a 75% chance of getting a Samsung screen, and a 25% chance of getting an LG screen.
(The samsung screen is usually very grainy, and the preferred LG screen has a great contrast ratio, is slightly brighter than the Samsung, and is perfectly clean with no grainyness). Dell pretty much builds your laptop with whatever screen they have left on the shelves.
The purpose of this survey is to find out which LCD panels are undesirable or have anything wrong with them, and which ones you should request when ordering your Studio XPS.
I cracked my screen a while ago, and ordered a new part off some dinky little website. I was aware that the resolution would be 1366x768 instead of 1600x900 on this new screen, but I was unable to find the exact part I broke. Now, many months later, I decided to search again. I found this page.
Would anyone be kind enough as to look over those, and let me know which screen would be the 'best' one to get, whatever that might mean. I notice they are all the same price, but have different specs in the names. I am more of a software guy, and rely on others help for hardware advice.
I 've just got a Dell Studio 1555 a couple of hours ago.
CPU T6500 2.1ghz, 2mb, 800
DDR II 3GB 800
VGA 4500MHD onboard
I installed Windows 7 Dell OEM 64bit (automaticlly actived)
Now i'm facing with one prob with the screen, sometimes it becomes blurry, espescially after I use Flip of win 7 (windows+tab)
I have tried to update the lastest driver but it doesn't work.
The first image you can see what happen with the desktop
The second one when I change the background:
It becomes blurry just after a moment when I use the laptop normally, not only when I use Flip.
And do you notice the circle I paint?
It's a P8600, 4 gig RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 512. Now the specs are great, I'm very impressed with this laptop, being able to play a game like CS Source in 720p with all settings on high with FPS over 100! (No anti-aliasing on though, but whatever, nevermind).
The screen, however, is absolutely atrocious! I'm actually shocked at how bad the screen tearing gets during videogames... honestly before I used to read complaints about screen tearing I'd always wonder what the big fuss was and now I know since I had never experienced screen tearing so bad before.
I paid a good £599 for this laptop and am seriously considering returning it. What's the point of having above average specs when they're horribly tainted by a -poor monitor?
Has anyone received a 1555 with 1080p screen? Can you comment on it? Is it very bright? What's the model? Do you think 1080 is too small for 15.6?
I just received a 1555 with 900p screen I ordered for someone else, and I am thinking to order one for myself with the 1080 screen. The 900 screen is very nice but I would want it to be brighter for 1080.
I somehow managed to drop my new Dell Studio 1555, resulting in a cracked screen.
With some hardware knowledge I felt that the best option would be a self-replacement job. However, the 1555 screens alone are over £100 on eBay
However, there are 1545 screens for just £60. Would one of these work OK on my 1555
My sister's computer inspiron 1420 got replaced with a dell studio 1555 after excessive blue screen of deaths and plagued bios problems that she keeps going thru.
I noticed on the dell studio 1555 i see sparkles stars of various colors in certain viewing angles. I remember my old dell e1705 was plagued with this problem also and was eventually replaced with another screen that no longer had those speckles.
Cause of these speckles or sparkles that i see on certain viewing angles the screen is impossible to look at in certain angles.
I received my Studio 1555 this evening (was away at class, mother signed for package) and upon opening up the box and booting up the laptop, the screen has a small 1 inch crack at the top of it, on the left side of the camera. I don't see any damage on the lid where the crack is on the screen. I have already tried calling the technical support line with no help from the indian speaking fools there. Does anybody know if I'm going to have to send it back to Dell to have it repaired or will they send a tech out with it? I only have the basic 1 year warranty on it since I had to keep the price to a certain minimum.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been doing more and more programming lately and am finding it increasingly frustrating flicking through a dozen windows on my 15.6inch Studio.
It already has a 1080p screen but it still is a pain and the prolonged hours staring at small texts is proving to be rather tiring for my eyes.
I've decided to buy an external monitor to solve this problem and use it as a dual screen but I'm unsure how to go about it.
But I'm encountering a big problem, my display is weird (there is some green filter added) in addition Windows 8 does not completely (it stop after the blue logo).
I can see something if I boot on my Ubuntu USB. Even the boot logo have the green filter.
On the others side if I come back to the original disciple screen, all is well. So, at a first sight I think it is not a connector problem or a graphics card problem.
It's a Dell Studio 1555 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 4500....
My studio 1555 plays 6 beeps and shows a black screen wen i turn it on.
when it was working i was having a few problems with the video card as i kept getting a blue screen saying about it being faulty but i had ignored it and now the laptop wont work at all.
I have read on the internet and it sounds like the video card is built into the motherboard.Â
how do i find out which motherboard will fit in to replace and will it have the video card inside.
I shutdown my laptop this morning and when I pressed power button aftr about an hour it wouldn't start.
The power light is on, there is no sound, even loadscreen wont show.
I tried re-inserting RAM, Cmos battery and hard drive. It still wont start.
My studio 1555 is not starting. When I press it, power button goes white, I can hear the HDD spinning but no beep or error appear. Screen remains black.
When I press the power button again it's turn off.
I've already tryed to take out battery and press power bottom for 30 seconds but nothing happens.
I just bought a brand new Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E and I have the following problem:
Because in normal stand the screen is very small, I enlarged it to x150%. Everything becomes bigger, but the following parts are blurry and absolutely not sharp:
-Pop ups, of programs and of windows itself (like advanced settings of something and then a new windows pops up, that one is then totally blurry; you can read it, but it is not the good resolution)
-Google chrome (and with that, all the internet pages)
-The google chrome on the desktop is also very blurry, while all the others, are still sharp (after the enlargement by 150%)
I have tried everything (32 bits colours is on, cleartype is on). I also did a system restore to the first days I bought the laptop and then it was on 100% so the resolution was excellent, but then I put it on 150% and again, the parts I mentioned above, were blurry.
I have just received today my new Studio XPS M1640 laptop (with blue ray drive and led screen) and so far all seems to be good except ... It can't play Blue-Ray movies. When I insert a BD disk, the autoplay only gives me the option to explore the folders with explorer. No option to play the disk. If I right click on the drive, I can select powerdvd but once in powerdvd nothing happens.
Notes:
1) I can see the folders on the BD disk in explorer
2) I tried it with the version of powerdvd dx that came with the laptop and also used the online update option of powerdvd dx to get the latest version (8.1). No change.
3) I'm trying to play to the built-in screen, no external monitor connected.
4) I've read somewhere about a blue-ray icon in powerdvd, I don't see this.
5) A long call with Dell support yielded nothing. I specifically asked if they might have shipped the wrong version (non-blue ray of powerdvd), the tech said that they only have the one version and that it has been tested to play BD disks properly.
6) Dell support says to try with other BD disks and if it still doesn't work to return the computer to have it fixed. (I don't really want to do that since it seems to be a software problem).
7) I ran the Cyberlink Blue Ray advisor and it tells me that all is fine except that it doesn't detect a blue ray software player.
Anybody else ran into this? Any solutions?
It would seem a bit strange to have to pay extra for a blue ray movie player on a brand new laptop that included a blue ray drive.
I just bought a new Dell Studio 1535 and encountered the following problem:
I inserted my windows xp installation cd (as the laptop came with no OS). Windows setup began running, installing a multitude of drivers and files as it should until a message, something in the likes of "starting windows" (up to this point the screen is still the dos-style setup program). After a few seconds, a MS windows blue screen appears, stating that it encountered a fatal error.
I just got a Vaio VGN-Z890 off the sonystyle website. As soon as i turned it on I saw a red screen with a pixelated windows symbol. When I got to the desktop screen it looks like there's a red tint covering the whole screen, kinda like someone put red cellophane over it. I thought it was the video card so I updated it from the drivers on the sony support website but I got the same result. I hooked it up to my 32" Samsung tv and it looked beautiful with the right colors. So this leads me to believe that it is a problem with the notebook's lcd. The funny thing is, if I go in and change the gamma and other display settings I can get the screen to change to a green or purple tint. I thought that a failing lcd screen could only be red?
-Also, although I am mechanically inclined, I'd rather let sony open up the laptop and check the gpu connection, lest they blame any problems on me in the future for tampering.
screen flicker when I turn my brightness to the lowest level, its a little but I didn't pay this much for something that could be broken,

Greetings,

Dell Studio 1555
I've been reading the threads for a while and wanted to get some more opinions on the 1555 vs SSE. I know the SSE is basically the 1537 with the edge to edge monitor.
I placed my order for the SSE last week with an estimated delivery date of 6/15
I could cancel my order and go with the 1555 with an estimated ship date of 6/01. what do you think. I have ~$1000 to play with ......
I recently had an HDX16 and tried out a DM3, but ended up returning the DM3 because I simply wanted a bigger and more powerful setup. Well, I had gone through 3 previous HDX16s because of various issues. Now I get one of the last ones they made (I got it about a week ago but was out of town for Thanksgiving.) Anyways, there's a huge crack in the plastic on the long roundish bar that connects the screen to the laptop. I don't know what to do. I can call, but they can't even send out another replacement, as the 16 doesn't exist anymore. To me the DV6/7/8 series isn't even comparable in my mind. What does everyone think I should do? I get the feeling they'll offer me say $50 which isn't worth the crack. I mean to me $200 is about where I'd say I'd be okay. But even then, I'll use it every day and think of the crack.....
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got my new carbon touch thinkpad today, and I couldn't be happier, until I closed the lid and reopened it a couple of minutes later. The screen froze for a while and then I got a BSOD with the notice CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. I hoped it would be just some coincidence, and updating my drivers and installing windows updates would solve it. So I did, and closed the lid again. After reopening it, I got the same error. So I figured I could just as well restore to my factory settings. Without luck. After updating everything for a second time, still no luck. I check the disk and did a memory check, but everything seems fine. The lenovo Solution center isn't reporting any issues either. I looked into the minidump created by the blue screen, and it seemed the process failing is called csrss.exe.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got it in November, sometimes when i go to ANY of my browsers to view pages with flash. The whole browser freezes and crashes, so i start it up again and go to the page, and crash again.. so i try to use another browser (i literally have chrome, Firefox, safari and IE) all of them do the same exact thing.. and once it crashes there's no way to get it back up unless you restart. It gets very annoying having to restart my laptop about 5 times a day. I've done everything, uninstalling flash player, reinstalling it, reinstalling browsers.. I've even reinstalled my OS because nothing else would work. I don't understand why this laptop has so many issues. Randomly freezes, crashes etc. Its basically brand new and i shouldn't have these issues. My old Compaq presario cq60-215dx NEVER ever did any of these thing this Studio laptop does. This laptop is about 400 dollars more than my Compaq.. Also, i dual booted Vista and Windows 7 and Vista is a hell of a lot faster, it boots up faster and never crashes.. It just seems as if Dell did something to this OS to make it a piece.. help?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just received my new Studio 1555 with Core2 P8600, 4GB RAM, Windows7 64Bit.
It freezes up on me at lease twice daily. I can't spot the problem, it has froze once when using excel, many times watching youtube videos and once using a tax software.
Everything just hangs and freezes. Can't do anything, have to hold the power button down. A few times when youtube froze, the sound stayed but in a frozen state.
What can it be?
Dell sent me some additional ram to upgrade to 8GB but that hasn't helped.
I have updated all drivers.
Please help. I'm tired of waiting on the phone and going through with Dell for hours and hours.
