HP/Compaq :: 9200M GE Or 9200M GS Locked- No Overclock
Feb 8, 2009
I recently bought this laptop
[url]
Specs
Intel Core 2 Duo 45nm P7350 2ghz
Dedicated Nvidia 256mb 9200M GE
Intel Penyrn Core 2 Duo 2Ghz P7350
15.6 screen size, RES 1366x768 (so 16:9)
250gb HDD
2GB RAM
So not to bad.. Ok heres my question, I tried to overclock the 9200M with the stock Nvidia drivers that came with the laptop, there version was 175.97.
I tried every program i could think off! Rivatuner, Ntune, Ati Tool... etc None of them would change the core or memory clock...
Then i thought it was the drivers, so i upgraded to Dox 182.something and the 9200m would still not overclock!
Also in the original drivers the card showed up as a 9200M GE, with the DOX drivers it shows up as 9200M GS any difference?
Do you think I could upgrade the 9200M to a 9600m ?

I understand that the dv4t has heat issues, but is 77 degrees Celsius normal for the GPU? The HD hovers at 60 as well. CPU temps are in the 30s at idle and 40s under load.
I've already had the laptop serviced once for heat issues, but they've returned.
Specs:
OS Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
CPU Type Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo P8700
System Memory 4096 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS (512 MB)
Disk Drive Hitachi HTS543232L9A300 ATA Device
Optical Drive PIONEER DVDRW DR-TD08HB ATA Device

Recently purchased DV4-1000ea as follows;
2.26Ghz P8400 Core2Duo
2GB RAM
250GB HDD
256MB Dedicated (1024MB Shared) NVidia 9200m GS.
I liked the idea of the laptop having a HDMI output to connect to my TV to watch movies etc downloaded on iTunes. I thought the graphics card was going to be ample given that my housemates Macbook with 32mb shared graphics works just fine.
However, I am really disappointed with the graphics performance playing High quality video, in particular, H264 Quicktime files.
For example, I have downloaded a few 720p trailers from the apple website and torrent sites and when playing, the videos are choppy in most scenes and speech is not in sync with video a lot of the time. This is true for display on the laptop screen, as well as display on TV via HDMI.
I have checked CPU usage whilst such clips are playing and it's running quite comfortably at 40-50%.
I have downloaded the latest NVidea drivers from the NVidia website (version 7928).
Also, even music video previews in itunes (and subsequent previews) are choppy and out of sync whilst playing. I have tried apples suggestions of turning off 3d accleleration for DirectX but it makes things worst.

Dv5t, the problem of having non-optimal /under par performance of Nvidia Graphics accelerator 9200/9600 used with Windows Vista.
I have done some troubleshooting myself, but yet to find a working solution.
My configuration is :
Pavilion Dv5t CTO Notebook.
15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ LCD.
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7350 (2.0GHz)
Current Running Resolution 1680 x 1050.
3GB system RAM.
NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS with 256 MB of RAM.
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
The degraded performance I am talking about is not specifically for games and 3D applications. Nor is playing games and running 3D rendering my primary purpose. The various benchmarks and tests mentioned at this site maybe more directed towards running specific games and other applications............

I got all the drivers for XP off one of the the dell forum boards, and this is where my problem begins.
If I use all Dell drivers, I can install all the hardware, but I'll get a message about the 9200M GS not starting up.

I'm already playing with the clock speeds i didn't bother with a full reinstall. i got rid of all the bloatware, fixed the stupid fn key function keys thing, and it runs fine.
i didn't get the 10.3 preview driver due to a lot of instabilities i keep hearing about. gonna wait for it to come out. i'm still using the original driver version that came with the computer. i got amd gpu tools, and oced to 520/1050 just to start. so far my temps never went above 70C how do i keep this clock speed when i restart? also, i notice the default settings downclock the gpu when it's not doing anything intensive, and they go up to 500/800 when they need to. if i lock in my oc when i restart (if i can), will it still downclock when it doesn't need the speed?

It has a Core 2 Duo T6400 (I know,), 4GB DDR2, and a 9600m GT. The BIOS is version F.2A.
I've been trying to overclock my GPU (through software only), though my efforts have been in vain. From what I can collect, the clock speeds are locked in the BIOS. I also can't install Nvidia Ntune because it crashes my laptop during installation.

I want to be able to scroll with my pointing stick using the pointing stick middle button, but no matter what I set it at with the synaptics software it will only perform the action which the touchpad middle button is set at.
Am I missing some check box I need to uncheck, or something else that I am not seeing. I already tried updating the driver and uninstalling it and reinstalling it, and I tried it with the touchpad disabled, but nothing has worked.

So do you over clock? I dont see the point too much unless your playing games though I could be wrong. And as fast as OSX is i see even less of a reason.

don't do this, unless you have the copper mod.
But I overclocked from 400/600 to 525/900, and the difference in performance was huge!
3DMark06 before: 1,700'ish
after: 2,077 !
RTHDRIBL 640 x 480 window before: ~ 50 fps
after: ~ 70 fps
----> around 40% increase!
W.E.I.: Aero/Gaming Graphics before: 4.1 / 4.7
after: 4.8 / 5.2
The good news is that my load temp has only increased a few degrees:
before: 72C
after: 75C

I've got a T7200 in my E1705. Is it even remotely possible for me to overclock it? Yes, I'm aware Dell locks the BIOS, but is there an unlocked version like JuanLu's mod?
Could a mod please change the title to like "E1705 CPU Overclock" or something? I just noticed how horribly vague Cpu is...

When I just had my XPS M1710 I flashed it with the "gsx" rom and stock gtx speeds...
Now I flashed my card with the unlocked roms (1,24V) but I think is running hotter now on the GS stock speeds...?
What should I do? I don't play games but I like the performance gain in windows Vista. I was thinking to flash my card again with the "oldfashion GSX rom"...
What would you do?
I just want to keep a cool system....

i recently upgraded my 1730 with a x7900 cpu.. when i overclock this cpu to 3.4ghz, as soon as the system reboots when exxiting the bios the fan speeds go to max speed and are very loud. when i get to the desktop i cant even turn the fans down or off using fangui.. does anybody else have this issue and is this the bios making the fans go full blast.. this is hard to use the lappy at 3.4 when the fans are blasting full throttle all the time..

I can't seem to get settings to stay in Windows XP with my new 1520's 8600m GT. I go to apply settings (in either rivatuner or ntune) and it just goes back to default settings.
In Vista, I can overclock fine.

is it a good idea to get a T9300 and overclock it to 2.6 GHz-2.8 GHz? The only difference (according to Intel's sheets) is the clock speed between T9300 and T9500.
I plan to buy a T9500/T9300 and put it in my Acer Aspire 6920G. Hopefully T9300 and OC.
