HP/Compaq :: Can You Upgrade Laptop CPU
Jun 25, 2009I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade a laptop cpu. If yes, has anyone done it.

View 6 RepliesI seen that on the dell 1720 you can upgrade the video card
I have hp dv6227cl notebook with a nv-6150 video card
I have a friend that has upgraded a card on the dell before and he says that if I can find out if the card is upgradable on my laptop he will change it for me.
we have both searched google to see if there is a upgrade available for this laptop but have found nothing. we have also called hp and had no luck with them.
i have a Compaq C500 (c501tu) laptop running winXP and want to upgrade to the maximum amount of ram.
According to CPU-Z, there's currently 2 x 256 pc2-4300 (266) mhz installed on the laptop occupying both slots.
i'm planning on buying 2 x 1GB DDR2 667 sticks.
if this is ok or can i upgrade 1 slot with a 2GB ram stick?
I have some issues with my video since I upgrade the nvidia drivers from the nvidia web site. I removed the drivers and I reinstalled the original ones with the same results.
Does the Windows drivers upgrade also upgrades the video firmware as well?
I'm upgrading my XPS m1530 CPU, i figured I'd post in this section.
Anyhow currently I'm running the t5750, 2000MHz dual core, with 2mb cache.
Ive got 2 choices for my upgrade (and I know they both will work for sure in the XPS m1530 as I've asked around) and here they are:
The T8300 with 2.4GHz dual core and 3mb cache and 800 bus speed, or
The T9500 with 2.6GHz dual core and 6mb cache and 800 bus speed.
Since I'm in Canada, the only good prices i can find are on eBay (otherwise I'm buying via Canadian newegg and whatnot, and they charge A-LOT for Canadians because of import and CAD currency exchanges).
The T8300 is listed at 173.56 CAD with +25$ Australian for shipping, which ends up being around 24 ish CAD, which means I'm paying roughly 200$ CAD for it.
The t9500 is listed at 253.56 CAD with free shipping to Canada.
In the end, my question is this: is the +0.2GHz/core and the 3mb extra cache worth the 50$ (considering the t9500 can go upwards of 350 on newegg Canadian, or rather used to, its not even listed there anymore). Although it may not be worth the straight upgrade, it may be worth the time i'll put off upgrading or buying a new laptop. What are your opinions?
the t9500 expires in 9 hours, and although I've been tracking the user since September, hes always re-posted the listing, but I don't know if the price will change a lot (its gone up 10$ since the previous re-post) so speedy answers would be .
I have a Sony Vaio S460 laptop.
Recently it had been lagging really bad, and so I was advised that it might be a power supply problem, or, another solution would be to upgrade the memory.
I went to my local computer store asking about it, and he recommended trying to upgrade the memory (I currently had two 256 MB memory sticks, for a total of 512).
I told him my model number, and he pointed me to a Kingston 1 GB memory stick, and said he was pretty sure that it would be compatible. Since it was only $10, I bought two of them.
so I went ahead and replaced the two 256 MB memory sticks with my newly acquired 1 GB memory sticks. But after I put the laptop back together, and I pushed the power button, nothing showed up on the screen (although the lights indicated the power was at least on)
I have a a vaio nw series with a blu-ray player and i want to upgrade a couple of things on my computer. I would like to upgrade the memory on my laptop to 8Gb and the processor to a t9900. On the sony website it says the laptop can max at 2.2ghz and 4gb but the chipset in the laptop can support the processor i want and the 8gb.

I just want to know if my laptop video card is upgradable? I have the 4745G core i3 330M with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 514 VRAM. I want to know if it is possible to upgrade it to 1Gb or 2Gb any brand of video card.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded my laptop from 4GB to 12GB (4+8). After the upgrade, the laptop boots and runs very very slowly. My laptop came with 4GB ram 1600 single stick. I upgraded the RAM by adding another stick of 8GB same bus and same manufacturer. The BIOS shows the total memory as 2288MB instead of 12288MB. Windows detects total RAM of 12GB but boots and runs very slowly.I have updated the BIOS from A06 to A07 trying to resolve the problem but with no luck. When installing each RAM stick alone (4gb or 8gb), everything works fine, but the issue comes back again when both sticks are mounted together even when switching the places on the sockets.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a DV6 1150ei
2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7450 3 MB Level 2 cache
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 512MB memory
3Gb DDR2 Ram running on VistaHP
3dMark06 gives me 3333
WEI has 4.7 for Win graphics,5.0 for gaming graphics, rest are 5.1 and over.
With the other card available with the DV6 the ATI Radeon HD 4650 it seems like i should be able to double the above 3dMark06 score according to [url].
What i'm thinking of doing is getting parts & changing to
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor T9900 - 3.06GHz (Penryn-MV, 1066MHz front side bus, 6MB total Level-2 cache. (Part # 570434-001)
System board (motherboard) - For model with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 graphics, 1GB memory (Part # 518431-001)
CPU fan and heat sink assembly
(Part # 518435-001)
I THINK the 4650 and the T9900 is as high as i can go without risking a bios issue as their both available on a DV6 CTO and appear to use the same bios(F.24A).
To stick to a "P" series processor i would need to go with P8800@2.6GHz.
4650 is still only 64bit so has anyone gotten a better ATI card to run in a DV6? (EDIT: wrong, the 4650 is 128bit)
I've got an HP 530 with a Intel Core2 Duo 1.60 GHz 2MB cache, 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM. I want to know how much RAM I can put in the laptop? I was thinking about upgrading to 4GB if possible. I can't find any support pages that tell me the maximum upgrades.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a brand new HP DV7-1232nr laptop.
-what does the "nr" suffix mean on this model?
-What caddy part number do I look for if I want to install a 2nd hard drive?
-I see there is a plug on the bottom side, under the cover to install a tuner. What can I install there and can I pop the small circular cover off where an antenna would connect near the power plug on the right side?
-What other options, upgrades, or mods can I do to this model?
4g ram, 320G HD, 2.2Ghz AMD Turion X2
I have hp8510p (intel gm965 chipset) with intel T9300 cpu. Can this be upgraded (at home)? Is this even possible to change notebook CPU?
If yes - what specs must be same old vs new? Socket is "P-478" so this has to be same, should the FSB speed be the same also?
One more question - I've got pc2-5300 333mhz ddr2 memory. can I put there something faster?
edit> is upgradit of the GPU possible? can I change the pci-express video card? I've got radeon 2600hd, could this be changed?
I'm just looking to the future because I want more processing power but I don't want to buy whole new notebook...
I was wondering what is the best CPU that I am able to upgrade to with my HP DV9305tx, T7200? And also what RAM is recommended? As I've still only got the stock 2GB.. Same goes with the hard drives. I'm guessing that's about all that I can upgrade?
Even though this laptop has suffered from heat issues, it's been a great work companion for the last few years, and is perfect for my design work, so I really don't want to upgrade to a new laptop, but I DO need a little more speed if it's possible.
two specific questions:
1) When my wife bought me this laptop back in 2005, it did not come with internal wireless, therefore no antennas behind the display. I see that the parts are on eBay for relatively cheap, so has anyone added Antennas behind their display? Or should I just get the antennas that stay in the base?
2) I just ordered a processor off eBay for $15 to upgrade from my Celeron M 1.4 GHz to Pentium M 1.6 GHz. I found the HP manual on how to replace the CPU, but I was wondering if there were any steps I could cut out? It has me removing the keyboard, key switch cover, and a lot of other things that don't seem necessary. Has anyone done this type of upgrade?
i am a DV5 (1009TX) user from Oz (but not aussie....so excuse language mistakes) .. i bought this laptop (against my better judgement...because i enjoy desktops for their upgradeability (not to mention the cost effectiveness of their upgrades) anyways....i wanted something along the lines of the DV5 (with the T9400/4GB/9600M GT [ouch] ) so that i could eke out some playability with GTA4..... which i am ...ok to say...that it is moderately playable till now on the low-middish visuals
thing is i wanted to modify this laptop to some degree (i do not want to rip out it's guts) and wanted your help
can we install a second SSD/HDD INTO the chassis of this laptop (DV5 aka 15"..ie would it have place to install another hdd internally)
if i were to install a 2/4GB SDHC class 6/4 card, would it be just as effective as a readyboost USB drive or a turbo mem from intel
is the turbo mem installable in this PC, i have 2 slots of PCIex1 available acc. to everest.. (i know HP doesn't like intel, and gave up support for this seemingly annoying tech....but just for mod's/bragging rights)
SSD as an express drive (any real experiences with it....cuz this would be a secondary option if i were not able to install it inside the chassis.... would it retain it's features (being bootable and fast) if it were to be used as such ( i have read a non techie review that PERHAPS it would not be quite so effective...
I have Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T5900 (2.2GHz)
What is the max CPU I can upgrade too?
My board is PM45 Northbridge with a 9600gt 512mb
I have a Hp DV2550se and 6 months back i upgraded my laptop from windows vista to windows 7 as i purchased it from my university. I did the upgrade myself and also updated the drivers all by myself.
My specs are as follow:
HD: 160gb 540rpm
RAM: 2gb DDR2
Microprocessor:1.5 GHz Intel® Centrino® Duo processor technology featuring Intel® Core ™ 2 Duo processor T5250 32 BIT
Video Graphics:Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (shared)
Video Memory:Up to 384 MB
I want to upgrade my laptop to 500gb hard drive and 4gb ram AND i also want to upgrade my video card to 1gb G-Force. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to such specs from what i currently have right now.
here is my specs;
Chipset: Mobile Intel Calistoga-GM i945GM
3D accelerator: Intel GMA 950
IDE controller: ICH7-M Family Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4
I think that is enough. Basically I want to know exactly what CPU's are compatible for an upgrade and also if it is possible also to upgrade my DVD drive (currently its a 6x MATA DVD-RAM UJ-842S).
I doubt this but worth asking: is there a chance that I can change the network card to a 802.11n?
I recently bought a DV7-2070ED with a T4200 cpu on board. Is it possible to replace it with a P8400 cpu?
I already replaced the T4200 with the P8400 (came from a broken down HP6730B notebook) but the thing won't start then. The P8400 is okay and working, so that should not be the problem.
Could it be the bios? I already found out that my DV7 is (almost) similar to the DV7t-series and they support cpu's like the P8600. Also the DV7t seems to use the same bios.
question for those that are knowledgeable in the area of upgrades. I have a nw8440 with a T2400 with 2 GB of 266MHz RAM and a 60GB HD. I would like to change out the HD for a WD Scorpio 320 GB and change out the 2GB of RAM for either 2GB or 4GB of 667 MHz, yes I am well aware of the 3 GB limit for 32 bit OS. As for the CPU I would also like to change over to a T7600 intel chip, the sockets are the same.
Is there any thing different in installing a new OS in this laptop compared to a desktop? In my limited time here so far I have picked up that I need all the drivers first before I install the OS, is that correct?
Have I forgotten anything? The HD and RAM would be first, with the CPU to come later depending on funds available.
is the first year when you buy the laptop consider a "HP standard warranty period" because i want to upgrade the warrenty for acidental drop warrenty for hp. Is it possible to upgrade if the "basic manufactory warrenty" didnt expire yet?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ordered an extra gigabyte of RAM for my Compaq Evo N620c figuring that it would speed the computer up and make it useful longer. I popped off the RAM cover no problem (under the palmrest in what is one of the worst design decisions I've ever seen) and installed one chip in the first slot with no issues. However when I went to remove the 512MB chip from slot 2 I saw the following:
The second chip is somehow blocked by a piece of the chassis in the top right corner. Consequently I can't figure out how to remove the chip and have no idea how it got there in the first place. Can anyone help out with this one? HP support was worthless, refusing to help even though the unit is under warranty (yes, you read that correctly. My Evo is still under warranty thanks to HP Care Packs).
I've seen slot for SIM card hidden by battery - are there any upgrades to use simcard in 8510p? Can this be installed as aftermarket upgrade?
