Dell :: Upgrade Old 700m Laptop To SSD (Solid State)?
Sep 5, 2009
Anyone know if it's possible to put a solid state drive in my dell 700m. I guess I will need a convertor since I know the interfaces are different. When I first bought the laptop, I changed out the 5200 rpm HD to a hitachi 7200 rpm ATA6 HD.
E6400 model i'm looking has 64 gb solid state drive and optical drive in the media bay. I'm leaning toward SSD since it's future proof and fast. (it's used one so it's not that expensive)
However, I wonder if its possible to add 2nd hard drive in the system without taking optical drive out. Basically I want to keep SSD, 2nd hard drvie and optical drive within the system all the time.
I'm trying to figure all this stuff out until my M6400 arrives. By creating this thread I hope others can benefit from this instead of searching and reading 100's of pages...
Since prices have dropped and they are more affordable now some will want to explore this options but not everyone is aware of advantages/disadvantages, benefit .....
I am looking into an E4200 with the SU9400 (1.4) processor. I understand that individually the high performance would be faster, however when assessing its speed as a whole system (the E4200), is there much of a "real life" value to getting the faster HD?
i'm thinking of getting a mac book, either pro or regular, and i wanted to know if i could get the standard SATA hard drive and just upgrade to SSD later on? or do I have to get it with the notebook directly from apple when i buy it?
I have a brand new Inspiron 5523 Laptop which came with Windows 8 on it. After using it for a couple of weeks I absolutely hate this new OS and want to downgrade to Windows 7 Pro so it matches the OS on my desktop.I have run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check compatibility and the following state "We do not have compatibility information about this device"
Question 1 - Is it going to be possible to get a Windows 7 Pro Compatible Driver for the above items?
Question 2 - Where can I find a step by step instruction guide to downgrading to Windows 7 Pro?
Question 3 - In addition to the SATA Hard Drive it also has a 32GB Solid State Drive which I understand is used for caching. Will the SSD also be compatible with Windows 7 and provide the same function automatically?
I recently purchased a Inspiron 17se and wanted to install a 256gb solid state drive as the main drive. I have created the Dell Recovery Disk set and swapped the drives. However, upon trying to recover the OS (Windows 8) the recovery disks/tool tells me the hard drive must be at least 916gb (size of the original disk) and cannot continue. The same thing happens with both drives installed (original drive in bay 1). It seems the recovery disk can't be used for the new drive. is the windows 8 standard downgrade-able with Dell to Windows 7?
It proceeds to boot as normal into Windows and I have connected to an external display to confirm everything else is fin.
When I switch back and forth from monitor/LCD I can see the laptop screen flickering as it did when it was working normally, and I think I can see the laptop screen very very faintly when I have it on dual display clone, which leads me to think it's a backlight problem...But I just never have encountered this type of issue in 5 years of my usage so I need your input ..
The LCD on my 700m quit working after I dropped it. But OK on external monitor. Got new screen on eBay. Part # slightly different but that's moot now.
After hooking up the two cables to new screen and putting battery back in, I pressed START button. The light would come on for a few seconds and then blink off, accompanied by a faint click. The data cable to screen got very hot in just a few attempts to start up.
Now nothing works (no more blinks and clicks) with either LCD, on either battery or mains. At this point I would be happy just with external monitor. Had I tripped an thermal overload device, and is there a reset button?
ok so my sister bought her dell inspiron 700m back in 2004. i went online to the dell site on her computer to check its default configurations and found that it came with 256 ram, however,
when i check, it seems that the system only recognizes up to 238 ram and 238 is the number that keeps showing up. this is extremely troublesome cause im trying to install ubuntu but many problems keep occurring cause i need 256 ram for it.
is there any way i can get the 700mto recognize the full 256 ram?
also im thinking of upgraded the ram, would this ram be ok? it seems compatible but i want to be sure before i buy it : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141207
I have a Dell 700m (and have for four years now). I recently decided to upgrade it instead of buying a new tiny laptop. What I would like to do is put two 320gb hard drives in it. Unfortunately, there is, of course, only one hard drive slot. However, there is the DVD/CD-R drive mount. What I'm hoping exists is an "internal hard-drive enclosure"--something into which I can put a 2.5'' hard drive (I don't care whether SATA or IDE) which mounts in the same way as the DVD/CD-R drive. I realize that this is a long shot, but it would be wonderful if it existed.
Where can I find 24co2 chip on system board of the dell inspiron 700m? Somehow the BIOS has been blocekd . When I run the laptop I can see a white inscription "Enter Password" on the blue background. After typing wrong passwords three times I can see an inscription "Please enter master password". I've tried to generate a master password but without success.
I have to restore my dell vostro 3700 to factory state, but I dont know how. I googled it and just found the instruction like "restart pc, then press F8>repair your computer>choose language>log in as administrator and then choose recovery tool> dell datasafe restore and emergency back-up
It would be ok, but I dont have there the option of "dell datasafe restore and emergency back-up" I have there just startup repair, system restore, system image recovery, windows memory diagnostic, command prompt and that's all... I miss there the 6th option.
I have been occasionally getting a BSoD saying Driver Power State Failure on my XPS 17 L702X. Sometimes, I am able to log in without the blue screen appeearing, but the browsers crash in a couple of minutes and I have to force shut down the system.
Ok, so, had my laptop for just shy of a year now. Everything has been working fine until yesterday whe I booted up, the screen rotated a solid green/blue/red for a few seconds then went black (backlight still on) and there it stayed, have re-booted a few times and each go, it goes straight to the black screen, I have plugged it into my TV via the HDMI which works fine can see everything and use as normal.
I am currently stumped on troubleshooting error code lights for a clients hp compaq cq62. I have tried the hard reset, reseating the memory, and even plugging the notebook directly into the wall instead of a surge protector with the battery removed. I cannot find any solution on the HP site or any other forum site for that matter as to what a solid caps lock light and a solid orange light on the f12 key.
Currently I am thinking the client is might need a new back light for the system or a new cpu.
I have Dell Inspiron 5521 bought recently. My WiFi is get disconnected intermittently. Connection would go in Limited state sometimes or would disconnect completely for sometime.
I have other laptops on the network and they don't disconnect. Im on my home network. Whats wrong with the network adapter?
