i was dumb and as i was trying to reconnect my speakers i had the battery in (yeah yeah...)
and i touched the thin pcb under the display with my screw driver
needless to say i got a small spark, no burnt smell tho.
now my lcd 'tries to come on' at boot but then nothing is displayed.
I bought new hp pavilion 15. i notice many time when i turn on or off my charger, screen turn off for few second then after few second screen turn on.

When I switch back and forth from monitor/LCD I can see the laptop screen flickering as it did when it was working normally, and I think I can see the laptop screen very very faintly when I have it on dual display clone, which leads me to think it's a backlight problem...But I just never have encountered this type of issue in 5 years of my usage so I need your input ..
The LCD on my 700m quit working after I dropped it. But OK on external monitor. Got new screen on eBay. Part # slightly different but that's moot now.
After hooking up the two cables to new screen and putting battery back in, I pressed START button. The light would come on for a few seconds and then blink off, accompanied by a faint click. The data cable to screen got very hot in just a few attempts to start up.
Now nothing works (no more blinks and clicks) with either LCD, on either battery or mains. At this point I would be happy just with external monitor. Had I tripped an thermal overload device, and is there a reset button?

ok so my sister bought her dell inspiron 700m back in 2004. i went online to the dell site on her computer to check its default configurations and found that it came with 256 ram, however,
when i check, it seems that the system only recognizes up to 238 ram and 238 is the number that keeps showing up. this is extremely troublesome cause im trying to install ubuntu but many problems keep occurring cause i need 256 ram for it.
is there any way i can get the 700mto recognize the full 256 ram?

What I would like to do is put two 320gb hard drives in it. Unfortunately, there is, of course, only one hard drive slot. However, there is the DVD/CD-R drive mount. What I'm hoping exists is an "internal hard-drive enclosure"--something into which I can put a 2.5'' hard drive (I don't care whether SATA or IDE) which mounts in the same way as the DVD/CD-R drive. I realize that this is a long shot, but it would be wonderful if it existed.

but it occured to me that my notebook screen does not turn off when I close the lid.
I installed all the latest drivers from the Dell website and everything works fine, besides this little problem. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? It used to work in Vista...
a few months ago, had the dell tech come in and replace the mobo on my overheating m1530.. in the process he had to take everything apart incl the screen and put it back after the new one was installed.

does your screen turn off after you close the lid while its on?
mine doesnt, and im wondering if it has something to do with the sensors on the lcd (if any).. or is the screen not supposed to turn off when you close the lid?
I installed windows 7 ultimate today on my studio 1737. I first as always install the dell drivers and update windows.
I was told by a dell tech to flash the bios. When I did this, the bios froze right near the end of being complete. I waited for about 15 mins and nothing, not even the mouse moves.
So I pressed the power button and hold it for about 10 seconds and nothing. The only thing left for me to do was to pull the power cord and the batterie so the computer will turn off which of course did happen.
I have a used Dell Latitude D820 .When I plug in the adapter and turn it on, the little lights on the computer come on that signify that it's charging and powered on, and I can hear 'something', probably the hard drive, spinning inside it, sounding normal. The only problem is that the screen will not come on at all. No Dell logo, no Bios, none of that stuff. how to get the screen to turn on.

From time to time, not sure when but when Im on windows (desktop, surfing with firefox etc..) the screen suddenly turn black, I dont see anything thou the laptop still runs normally - if I press ctrl + alt + del, I do see the menu that lets me choose all the basic options but when I exits it I still see black. This problem solves itself after a min or two and I see everything back to normal - If I was installing something then the install just finishes (the computer works normally during this, its just the screen). When this problem happens something the screen flickers, I see windows back for a sec and then black again - and after a few times its back to normal.
Anyone knows how to fix this ? Its quite irritating.

So I was using my Inspiron 1545 and everything was going fine, then suddenly the screen just went nuts. It was green and pink, flickering, and had bars flashing everywhere. I turned it off manually, and after that it would turn on a few times (BIOS graphics were fine) but the desktop would be messed up. Then soon after that, I couldn't even get to BIOS. I press the power, the fan starts for like 2 seconds, then the laptop completely shuts down. I've tried removing the power supply and battery, holding the power button, then putting them back to no avail. I've also tried having it only connected to the power supply. I've even tried removing one of the two RAM.

The Led on the battery plug (going into the computer) lights blue.When I press the power button the screen will flash white for a second and then nothing (no beeps either). I haven't turned the laptop off since this incident. I've been putting it in stand by/ sleep mode and everything was fine. I was also able to restart the computer with no problems. It's just when I power down when this happens.The keyboard recently froze (new issue) and I had no choice but to reboot by powering down. Now it won't turn on. I got the "ATI display driver has stopped responding and has recovered from an error" several times over the last couple of days where my screen would freeze for a couple of second and then start working again and would display that message. I thought little of it as it did always seem to work afterwards.
Last night however it got extremely frequent happening at least once a minute and i decided to try and restart my computer to see if that would work. Now when I try to turn the computer on the screen stays black and will not do anything. I can hear that the computer trying to work as the fans are going and the power light is on, it's just the screen that isn't working.

I found these guides on how to fix the error message but at the moment both are no good as I can't even use my computer to fix the problem as the screen won't work.
I am pretty sure the reason my computer is doing this is because of outdated drivers as I recently did a fresh install of windows and only installed the drivers that came on the CD I was given with my computer. I should have downloaded the latest drivers online.

I have a inspiron 1521 that i have been having problems with. It's an older laptop.
When i turn on the power, nothing is displayed on the screen. When i hold fn+power I get 2 flashing lights and one solid. The num lock and cap lock flash. I don't really know what this means. I have also done a BIST and the laptop seems to pass this just fine. (Different colors flash on the screen). I have tried removing ram 1 at a time but it always blinks the same lights. Could this be a problem with the motherboard?
I have an hp pavilion dv6. It was purchased at the end of 2010. My computer teens to get hot a little quicker than normal. While I was away, I took the bottom plastic screen off and put it back on (one of the sides had come loose and a tab was sticking out). I also tightened all the screws on the main cover on the bottom because some had come loose.When I got home and tried to turn my laptop on, the screen wouldn't turn on. I can hear the fan turn on. The light indicating the wifi was on, but showing that it was off- and it was on when I last used my computer. Also, the capslock light is blinking. I don't hear any sound from the speakers or anything like that. I tried hooking it up to a projector but never got a signal. I tried unplugging it and removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds but nothing changed when I tried turning it back on.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows 7 64bit, I got a new RGBLED screen as a replacement mid last week. Now I just realized that when I close the lid the screen isn't turning off. I've went through all of the power options and set it to "Do nothing" when closing the lid and that, for every single laptop I've owned has made the screen to shut off when closed. If I let it idle it'll dim and then shut down like it normally would during windows use. Is there a quickfix or some sort of driver needed?
Also grabbed a 9cell battery from a parts sort locally, couldn't believe they had a 9cell for $30! This thing looks brand new, but I'm suspicious that it might be some chinese fake, how can I determine if it's real? It only have 1.0% of wear on it according to HWiNFO32.
I recently got a Latitude D510 from a friend, he says it wont turn off unless you hold down the power button, I tried turning it off by the start menu selection (windows 7 home premium sp1)
And it starts turning off. Then a Blue screen pops up for at least 30 seconds and then it restarts.
I have the above laptop. It quit working, when I turn it on it goes to a blank screen. The mouse arrow still works

My Dell Inspiron 1525 has suddenly decided not to turn on. I get up to a Windows Vista screen where it says "Configuring updates stage 3/3" and then it restarts itself again and again. I can't get it to do anything else. Before it wasn't even getting that far and it was restarting itself and giving me the option to launch startup repair which I did. I tried to restore the system but I was told that there were no system restore points. I turned it off and on again and it then started to take me up to the configuring updates page but no further than that and I no longer get the launch startup repair option. I have also been having a problem with the battery where every time I turn it on it says "ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined" and then won't charge so I can only run it when plugged in but at the moment I would just like to get it to turn on!
