I'm about to buy two gigs of ram for my 700m.
There is lots of different brands availible at ebay.
It proceeds to boot as normal into Windows and I have connected to an external display to confirm everything else is fin.
When I switch back and forth from monitor/LCD I can see the laptop screen flickering as it did when it was working normally, and I think I can see the laptop screen very very faintly when I have it on dual display clone, which leads me to think it's a backlight problem...But I just never have encountered this type of issue in 5 years of my usage so I need your input ..
The LCD on my 700m quit working after I dropped it. But OK on external monitor. Got new screen on eBay. Part # slightly different but that's moot now.
After hooking up the two cables to new screen and putting battery back in, I pressed START button. The light would come on for a few seconds and then blink off, accompanied by a faint click. The data cable to screen got very hot in just a few attempts to start up.
Now nothing works (no more blinks and clicks) with either LCD, on either battery or mains. At this point I would be happy just with external monitor. Had I tripped an thermal overload device, and is there a reset button?
i have a dell 700m laptop. few yeas old.
only 2 usb ports psmcia card and cdrom and wireless card.
what is there to upgrade on that laptop?
can i upgrade a wireless card to a WiFi+ bluetooth? will it work with this model?
is there a battery that i can put instead of cdrom?
ok so my sister bought her dell inspiron 700m back in 2004. i went online to the dell site on her computer to check its default configurations and found that it came with 256 ram, however,
when i check, it seems that the system only recognizes up to 238 ram and 238 is the number that keeps showing up. this is extremely troublesome cause im trying to install ubuntu but many problems keep occurring cause i need 256 ram for it.
is there any way i can get the 700mto recognize the full 256 ram?
also im thinking of upgraded the ram, would this ram be ok? it seems compatible but i want to be sure before i buy it : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141207
i was dumb and as i was trying to reconnect my speakers i had the battery in (yeah yeah...)
and i touched the thin pcb under the display with my screw driver
needless to say i got a small spark, no burnt smell tho.
now my lcd 'tries to come on' at boot but then nothing is displayed.
Does anyone know where I can get the Windows 7 drivers for the Inspiron 700m? I can't get my Wi-Fi working on it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 700m (and have for four years now). I recently decided to upgrade it instead of buying a new tiny laptop. What I would like to do is put two 320gb hard drives in it. Unfortunately, there is, of course, only one hard drive slot. However, there is the DVD/CD-R drive mount. What I'm hoping exists is an "internal hard-drive enclosure"--something into which I can put a 2.5'' hard drive (I don't care whether SATA or IDE) which mounts in the same way as the DVD/CD-R drive. I realize that this is a long shot, but it would be wonderful if it existed.
View 10 Replies View RelatedCould anyone recommend a replacement hard disk for a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop. I am running Windows XP Pro SP3.
I would prefer a larger size disk greater than 250GB. I did search the forums and I found very little info for the 700m hard disk problem I have.
Anyone know if it's possible to put a solid state drive in my dell 700m. I guess I will need a convertor since I know the interfaces are different. When I first bought the laptop, I changed out the 5200 rpm HD to a hitachi 7200 rpm ATA6 HD.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhere can I find 24co2 chip on system board of the dell inspiron 700m? Somehow the BIOS has been blocekd . When I run the laptop I can see a white inscription "Enter Password" on the blue background. After typing wrong passwords three times I can see an inscription "Please enter master password". I've tried to generate a master password but without success.
Generated password was: hw4lha04
A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?
Who makes the touchpad for the E6500?
Alps, Synaptics, or someone else?
The Driver/Downloads page doesn't say.
I bought a new Dell D830 about three days ago for school. I connected to my schools wireless network just fine, and I did this for about two days until I headed back home.
Here we have a wired network and it even worked fine here for about a day. Now I cannot seem to connect to anything here.
I checked the modem, different cables, and I tried to run through the repair option but I still got the same message, 'There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer'. I do have Vista on the computer but besides that the only things Ive loaded are Trend Micro and Mozilla.
Will it effect both wired and wireless networks on this computer?
I have a dell e1505 for 3 years my adapter finally gave out. Dell is selling my old adapter for $70 something. I was wondering if non brand adapters will ruin my computer and where to find these adapters for cheap.
View 6 Replies View RelatedDell tech came out to replace my motherboard for the second time in 12 months earlier this week and left the wrong ac adapter (didnt notice until after well after he left).
So dell shipped me another ac brick which arrived today, but the laptop still isnt recognizing it. The battery is completely dead now, but before it went down I checked in BIOS and it was showing no AC adapter there either. It's getting power from the wall (green light is on) but I dont have a multimeter handy to check the voltage from the brick to the computer.
The light doesnt go out when I plug it into the computer like it did when the MB died. What are the chances it's a faulty adapter or do I have another problem? Anybody else had this happen? I'm getting really frustrated with this machine. TIA guys.
Received a new E6500 to demo at work since we are not happy with our HPs and it has been the worst I have seen out of the box!
The first time you go to the control panel after a boot it crashes Explorer. Then it crashed trying to install Windows updates the first time
I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!). It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. All set right?
Not quite. In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
i having the Acer TravelMate 6493, originally it have 2GB of Memory. Recently, i have addin additional 2GB, mean that currently the system is having 4GB of Memory.
in the BIOS, showing the system is installed with 4GB of Memory, but when come into the windows, it show 4GB installed (2.90GB Usable) .....
how do I tell what company manufactured my screen, as I know LG and Samsung both make them, and maybe some other companies as well?
View 10 Replies View RelatedDell uses a selection of display panels from different manufacturers on laptops, even if they are described by dell as being the exact same display when you ordered your laptop.
For example, if you were going to order an XPS M1530 with a WSXGA+ resolution, you have about a 75% chance of getting a Samsung screen, and a 25% chance of getting an LG screen.
(The samsung screen is usually very grainy, and the preferred LG screen has a great contrast ratio, is slightly brighter than the Samsung, and is perfectly clean with no grainyness). Dell pretty much builds your laptop with whatever screen they have left on the shelves.
The purpose of this survey is to find out which LCD panels are undesirable or have anything wrong with them, and which ones you should request when ordering your Studio XPS.
I got my brand new Studio 1558. 11 Hours later, internal screen cracked. Not even touched by myself, sat on my desk unwrapped (I was yet to set it up,
as it was late at night i got it). I turn it on this morning to find the screen was cracked internally, bleeding. Dell are picking it up tomorrow.
I am extremely angry at this. I'm mainly here to see if this is a common problem. I have literally done nothing to provoke this crack. It was opened once.
I did however notice a few mild streaks at the point where this bleeding started, the first time i turned it on. It was only noticeable with pure black.
From what I have read I am under the impression that new Dell systems often are delivered with many unnecessary programs that use system resources and slow down the computer.
I will be receiving a new Latitude E6400 with Vista Ultimate in the next few days and I am unsure whether or not I should reinstall the operating system or leave it as is.
I just received my new DELL XPS 16 from Dell by ordering online. I very much like this laptop, I even ordered it despite all its noted flaws but mine happened to ship with a flaw that now i'm not so happy about.
At first I thought my laptop had a bump where the audio controllers are but I figured that it was raised to be more accessible in the dark or something since you can feel it but after a quick google verification, it seems this is a trait that sometimes occurs when these laptops ship.
Anyway, enclosed is a relevent, high resolution pictures of my laptops raised touch sensitive strip area.
I have bought a Battery for my Studio 1555 so how can I verify that
1. battery is Brand new and not tampered at all.
2. And any way to register the battery for the warranty.
3. What is covered under warranty..?
I have just received today my new Studio XPS M1640 laptop (with blue ray drive and led screen) and so far all seems to be good except ... It can't play Blue-Ray movies. When I insert a BD disk, the autoplay only gives me the option to explore the folders with explorer. No option to play the disk. If I right click on the drive, I can select powerdvd but once in powerdvd nothing happens.
Notes:
1) I can see the folders on the BD disk in explorer
2) I tried it with the version of powerdvd dx that came with the laptop and also used the online update option of powerdvd dx to get the latest version (8.1). No change.
3) I'm trying to play to the built-in screen, no external monitor connected.
4) I've read somewhere about a blue-ray icon in powerdvd, I don't see this.
5) A long call with Dell support yielded nothing. I specifically asked if they might have shipped the wrong version (non-blue ray of powerdvd), the tech said that they only have the one version and that it has been tested to play BD disks properly.
6) Dell support says to try with other BD disks and if it still doesn't work to return the computer to have it fixed. (I don't really want to do that since it seems to be a software problem).
7) I ran the Cyberlink Blue Ray advisor and it tells me that all is fine except that it doesn't detect a blue ray software player.
Anybody else ran into this? Any solutions?
It would seem a bit strange to have to pay extra for a blue ray movie player on a brand new laptop that included a blue ray drive.
I just bought a new Dell Studio 1535 and encountered the following problem:
I inserted my windows xp installation cd (as the laptop came with no OS). Windows setup began running, installing a multitude of drivers and files as it should until a message, something in the likes of "starting windows" (up to this point the screen is still the dos-style setup program). After a few seconds, a MS windows blue screen appears, stating that it encountered a fatal error.
My FIRST boot trial:
Checking the media............................Error!
Contact your pc vendor (Dell Customer Service?) or something...
As I wrote in my previous posts: [URL] ....
and the other one
My recovery volume seems corrupted. I have no recovery cd or usb stick created because I never powered my pc on.
After reading great reviews about it, I took the plunge and bought the 6935G last week.
Its a fantastic machine and I'm really delighted with it apart from one major problem - I can't get Windows Media Player 11 to run at all.
The installation of Vista SP1 appeared to go well and the machine seems to be operating perfectly in all other ways (apart from the sidebar not displaying gadgets properly which does not bother me much).
I can see WMP included in the list of programs when I click on the start menu and I can also see it in my "C" drive under Program Files but when I attempt to run it nothing at all happens. The blue circle appears for 1 or 2 seconds then disappears - thats all that happens.
I'm not sure if this is related but when I go to the Music section of Windows Media Center I get the message "A necessary component of Windows Media Center is currently not available "
As I'm a "silver surfer" with limited computer knowledge, I'm probably doing something stupid (or maybe forgettiing to enable something) but I would really appreciate help in getting WMP 11 to work on this otherwise fantastic machine.
As I use WMP to manage my music, its important to me.
