I have an hp pavilion dv6. It was purchased at the end of 2010. My computer teens to get hot a little quicker than normal. It had overheated a couple times, but not recently.I recently went on a road trip and when I got back my computer screen won't turn on. While I was away, I took the bottom plastic screen off and put it back on (one of the sides had come loose and a tab was sticking out). I also tightened all the screws on the main cover on the bottom because some had come loose. When I got home and tried to turn my laptop on, the screen wouldn't turn on. I can hear the fan turn on. The light indicating the wifi was on, but showing that it was off- and it was on when I last used my computer. Also, the capslock light is blinking. I don't hear any sound from the speakers or anything like that. I tried hooking it up to a projector but never got a signal. I tried unplugging it and removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds but nothing changed when I tried turning it back on.
First of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook
To the problem now : A few days ago my laptops screen started out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completely.
Before this happens. This behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a random color (green mostly) then becomes black/shuts down.
NOTE: The laptop keeps running, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isn't a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.
Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past couple of days:
1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered ( on both amd and intel ).
2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving)
3. I tried installing 4 different drivers all with clear install. ( didn't work)
4. I tried to to recover system with restore point. ( didn't work)
5. I tried to lower the screen brightness. ( didn't work)
6. tried this trick: Turn off laptop.. Remove battery.. Hold the power button for 30-45 seconds.. Plug-in the charger ( don't put the battery in )Turn on laptop and see if it works.
Very Noticable details:
7. Since on of the rare fixes requires to move the lid i tried shaking the screen a bit or pushing it slightly to different directions. This actually does the trick and turns the screen back on ( i am right now typing this after using this "trick"
So, with this one as a hint there are a couple of stuff i have in mind but i am not sure ...
a) There is a loose LCD cable and when i type a little vibration moves it and ends up in a black screen. b) I read that if you use a flashlight and you cant see your desktop it means its a bad inverter. c) Can the inverter have a lose cabe instead of the lcd ?
Currently the screen looks ok ( maybe its the certain angle it has after i moved it. Tried to play a game for a few mins and i got the black screen again. Closed the lid so the laptop goes in sleep mode then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.
Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a bit and it worked but for the 1st time i get the message " Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" , Can it be that its the GPU after all or maybe drivers?
Tried to play a game again and it seem to trigger the issue . ( i am currently running the laptop with only the intel drivers installed) ...
I am pretty positive that my laptop does have a backlight. However, I didn't need it at the time and I shut it off. But now I can't turn it on. I originally remembered adjusting it through the power options and that there was a little slider to adjust the brightness of either the screen or the keyboard. I could have been wrong though, since I no longer see the second slider for the keyboard brightness. I have tried everything I could find to get the light to turn on. I used the mobility center but there is no keyboard option. I have tried the fn + spaacebar, fn +f5, and my keyboard does not have a specialized key to adjust the keyboard backlight either. How to turn on the backlight?
The fan, and I guess the system, does not turn off when going into sleep mode after the set 10 min of no activity but will if I go to sleep mode manually. I have already had to have a replacement fan after a year which I am sure was due to this issue.
I was watching a movie on Netflix, and all of the sudden the screen kept scrambling itself. I shut it down and now when I restart my laptop all I get is a white scrambled screen. I restarted it again and now I still can't do anything and it won't shut down unless I hold down the power button for a few seconds...
I applied the recommended bios update yesterday and now the touch screen nearly continuously activates when I'm not using it. which renders the mouse pretty much useless too. I know HP will release a bios that fixes this eventually but in the meantime how do I turn off the touch screen?
I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. The Display does not appear to be working. When I turn on the laptop the display remains black. No boot up screen, nothing. I can't go into the bios because I have no screen. The screen remains black. The harddrive appears to be working and all other functions appear to be working but I am not sure because I have no screen.
Is this a known issue with the Compaq Presario CQ60?
I recently got an acer aspire e15 for xmas and I've started to have problems with it like when i turn it on and adjust the screen or simply pick it up to move it the screen will turn off like a standby but take ages coming back on and sometimes it will just simple restart the laptop....
My pavillion g6 keeps crashes whenever I try to turn it on. It'll go through the start up process but crashes just before reaching the start screen and go blank.
I'm more of a desktop user but my husband gave me this laptop on January 2007. Since then, I think I only used it for less than 20 hours (we don't have a wireless)... when we got out of town.
The last time I used it, about a year ago, it turned off by itself. I tried to use it again when I got home but the screen is just blank whenever I turn it on. What could be the problem? I don't think it's a good idea to send it for repair to HP as the warranty expired already.
when I turn it on, all the blue lights turn on... but the screen won't therefore I can't use it. Ealier, I hooked up an external monitor but didn't work. Could it be an LCD problem?
The notebook doesn't have any scratch or whatsoever. It still looks like new, yet not working.
I have a x201 cto using 64bits Win 7. The wireless adapter is intel advanced-N 6200. However, I found my wireless always turn off suddenly and I can not turn it on anymore (even using Fn+F5) until reboot.
I installed drivers for GeForce and Nvidia, but when i try to play e.g . Battelfield 4 then laptop use only one graphic card (GeForce 755). How could i turn on second card during the game ??
If I keep game client running, the display won't turn off even if I set the time in power management. Is there another way to turn it off? I'm using SR model.
It's a old version MacBook Pro 15.4" 2008 Edition, Core 2 Duo 2.5Ghz (i think) 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD
The problem I encountered was that one day when I was using my laptop I forgot to turn it off and then my laptop went to 'sleep' mode, when I came back and tried to turn on my laptop I could hear the sound but my display was black.
I thought it was just a minor problem so I just restarted my laptop but the problem consisted...
Unfortuately my warranty ran out but still I still put my laptop through the checkup in the official Apple customer center and they said that I needed to purchase a new part PCBA, MLB, 2.5 GHZ, REV2.
Whenever I connect AC adapter, display on my laptop goes black and it remians black even after I remove adapter. If I poweroff laptop while adapter connected and power on it again, the lights on keyborad just blinks and it shuts down. If I remove adapter and turn it on then it works fine.If I connect adapter while laptop is powered off then it charges the battery as usual .
My laptop is a HP Envy TS 15 Notebook Product number: F5C62EA. When I press the mute button on my keyboard the light does not appear but the laptop is muted.
I just bought a Lenovo ThikpPad T540p as a replacement of my old Lenovo ThinkPad R61i.What i'm looking for, is to turn off the internal Display if Windows 7 is locked. On my old R61i, it was the Hotkey FN + F3. I was easy able to changing the function of F3 in the "Energy Manager 6" on the R61i.I did not found any similar option on the new T540p.Because i use is very often when i run the laptop during the night and i sleep in the same room. Then i usually lock Windows an turn off the display.
Went to turn on the laptop and walked away. A minute or two later come back and laptop is not past the BIOS, and a screen talking about a laptop being ran until the battery drained last time it was on. I didn't get a chance to finish reading the screen because the laptop restarted. Nothing shows up on the screen after the restart. I was running off the AC adapter when this happened.
Situation now is pressing the power button causes the power button, media quick play bar. Power notification light , light above mouse pad and the wireless slider to light up. If the AC adapter is plugged in the charge light will light as well. I also hear a fan and i think the HDD. The HDD light doesn't light though. Nothing will show on the screen. stays black. I have tried powering it with AC adapter only, charged battery only, and with a charged battery and AC adapter.
I use a high resolution monitor; therefore, I use display scaling. But for many programs I prefer to turn it off since the display quality is better. For 32-bit programs there is no problem with this: open program properties, then, Compatibility => Disable display scaling on high DPI settings. However, when I try to do this for a 64-bit program, I find that the corresponding check box is disabled.
I am quite bugged by the Caps Lock onscreen display, since I cannot find a way to only turn off the capslock display without turning off all displays.
This display drops my FPS from about 70 to 40 when I'm playing video games which is bugging me a lot. But I would like to keep my other displays like soundlevel and screen brightness.
And yes, I know that it is possible to keep the capslock display for only 3 seconds when turning it on too, but I want it to be not displayed at all. I have a green light on my keyboard which is good for me.
So is it possible to completely turn off the capslock display without turning off the other displays?
Trying to find a way/hotkey to turn off the built-in display whilst I'm connected to another external monitor with the Thinkpad S1 Yoga model. How to do it?
I could even remap any of the default hotkeys, how to do that as well, as the defaults are not too useful for me...
I have a HP Pavilion dv7 notebook with Windows 7 64-bit. Last week after I was attacked by some virus that's called Win 7 I installed a virus removal program Super Anti Spyware Free Edition. The problem went away but so did my ability to access the Firewall. I tried a few different options from the Microsoft site like trying to find it on the services menu, it wasn't there. I tried saving a repair sequence in Notepad then running as administrator from the desktop that didn't work either. Every time I try to reset the firewall an error code pops up. Error code- 0x80070424
Now I have to keep jumping around from different user accounts on the computer because the same malware/virus keeps trying to pop up. It keeps trying to make me buy the full version even though it appears to be nothing wrong with the computer according to other programs. i googled it and it's a scam to get you to pay for something you don't need.
my brothers been having problems with his HP comp, im not exactly sure on model, ill find out tomarrow. but his problem is, sometimes his screen will like, turn off. the laptop itself is still on, audio will go through and all, but the screen is just black. it doesnt happen too often, like once a week.
I just bought my HP Pavilion 360 less than a month ago and it's only been used for schoolwork and research. No virus or threats were detected. It was working fine today until I had to charge it. When it was fully charged, I turned it on and the screen just froze. I tried shutting it down by pressing the power button but it didn't work. Now, the screen's just black but the power button's lit up (meaning it's turned on). What do I do?
My Pavilion tx2000 doesn't open when i turn it on. And when I try system recovery options, it says that my password is incorrect and that it has been disbled.
