I applied the recommended bios update yesterday and now the touch screen nearly continuously activates when I'm not using it. which renders the mouse pretty much useless too. I know HP will release a bios that fixes this eventually but in the meantime how do I turn off the touch screen?

When she finished, I wanted to watch a video on YouTube so I got on the computer, but on the lockscreen I couldn't swipe and so I had to click and when I got to my password place, there was no touch-screen keyboard that usually pops up there. And now I can't play some of my games and I lost some of the abilities that this awesome laptop brings me.My mother said the only button she pressed was the f5 button at the top of the keyborad. View 4 Replies View RelatedI got this Notebook a couple of months ago at The Source in Alberta Canada. Worked fine for a week or so and then the touch screen began to stop working intermittently. Once or twice it seemed that cleaning the (not dirty) screen worked but not anymore. It has just stopped working completely for the past month or so. I've tried glass cleaner on a napkin and on a microfiber cloth..all the way to the edges and nothing. I've run all the troubleshooters, driver updates...everything is up to date and working properly or so they say.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an hp pavilion dv6. It was purchased at the end of 2010. My computer teens to get hot a little quicker than normal. It had overheated a couple times, but not recently.I recently went on a road trip and when I got back my computer screen won't turn on. While I was away, I took the bottom plastic screen off and put it back on (one of the sides had come loose and a tab was sticking out). I also tightened all the screws on the main cover on the bottom because some had come loose.When I got home and tried to turn my laptop on, the screen wouldn't turn on. I can hear the fan turn on. The light indicating the wifi was on, but showing that it was off- and it was on when I last used my computer. Also, the capslock light is blinking. I don't hear any sound from the speakers or anything like that. I tried hooking it up to a projector but never got a signal. I tried unplugging it and removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds but nothing changed when I tried turning it back on.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm more of a desktop user but my husband gave me this laptop on January 2007. Since then, I think I only used it for less than 20 hours (we don't have a wireless)... when we got out of town.
The last time I used it, about a year ago, it turned off by itself. I tried to use it again when I got home but the screen is just blank whenever I turn it on. What could be the problem? I don't think it's a good idea to send it for repair to HP as the warranty expired already.
when I turn it on, all the blue lights turn on... but the screen won't therefore I can't use it. Ealier, I hooked up an external monitor but didn't work. Could it be an LCD problem?
The notebook doesn't have any scratch or whatsoever. It still looks like new, yet not working.
First of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook
To the problem now : A few days ago my laptops screen started out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completely.
Before this happens. This behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a random color (green mostly) then becomes black/shuts down.
NOTE: The laptop keeps running, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isn't a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.
Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past couple of days:
1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered ( on both amd and intel ).
2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving)
3. I tried installing 4 different drivers all with clear install. ( didn't work)
4. I tried to to recover system with restore point. ( didn't work)
5. I tried to lower the screen brightness. ( didn't work)
6. tried this trick: Turn off laptop.. Remove battery.. Hold the power button for 30-45 seconds.. Plug-in the charger ( don't put the battery in )Turn on laptop and see if it works.
Very Noticable details:
7. Since on of the rare fixes requires to move the lid i tried shaking the screen a bit or pushing it slightly to different directions. This actually does the trick and turns the screen back on ( i am right now typing this after using this "trick"
So, with this one as a hint there are a couple of stuff i have in mind but i am not sure ...
a) There is a loose LCD cable and when i type a little vibration moves it and ends up in a black screen.
b) I read that if you use a flashlight and you cant see your desktop it means its a bad inverter.
c) Can the inverter have a lose cabe instead of the lcd ?
Currently the screen looks ok ( maybe its the certain angle it has after i moved it. Tried to play a game for a few mins and i got the black screen again. Closed the lid so the laptop goes in sleep mode then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.
Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a bit and it worked but for the 1st time i get the message " Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" , Can it be that its the GPU after all or maybe drivers?
Tried to play a game again and it seem to trigger the issue . ( i am currently running the laptop with only the intel drivers installed) ...
I have an envy m6 touchscreen that is giving me problems that i can't solve. It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

Recently I noticed that my touch screen sometimes starts to hits randomly at the bottom of the screen. This problem cause some windows became minimize and maximize on its own and when i'm watching video, the video keep pause, play and pause again. I tried to find any crack on the screen but found nothing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've buyed a new XPS12 convertible ultrabook, when I've received the PC, the LCD not working, then has been replaced the LCD, but after that the LCD working in proper manner, but the Touch screen not running (date 17 of jan 2013) since this time the Technical support can not be able to solve this problem, first istance said there was some firmware version problem, they replace another time the LCD, but not solve the problem.
Today 34 day after receiving the payed ultrabook no answer has been provided, the only solution is to receive a new XPS12 but DELL need anoter 50 day to try to send me another PC.
I ordered a Dell Studio 1558 in late Feb, to receive it in early March.
then one fine day, Engadget breaks the news that 1558 anf 1749 will be avaliable with full touch screen (initially it was a "slip" on Dell on-line catalogue here on page 5. What you will see now is only 1749, but originally (I have it printed) there was also 1558 for $999.
Bang, I cancel the order, waiting anxiously for 1558 Touch screen to apprear on the web-site. After a few days, only 1749 appears as available with touch screen, the 1558 is "purged" from the catalogue, "replaced" (the pictures seemingly stay the same) the descrition of a cheaper 1749, still the $999 remained.
Questions:
1. Anyone knows what's going on? Is 1558 Touch Screen for real or only 1749 will get the touch screen?
2. If 1558 will eventually get the touch screen, any idea how long do I have to bite nails? Will the 1558 touch screen be availble with the full-HD 1920x1080 screen?
Anyone have it and have any opinions on the touch screen.

I'm not sure if mt drivers are old, but my touch screen works sometimes then completely stops working and when I try to calibrate it, it tells me that there's no N-Trig duosense hardware on my computer. It says I DO have the hardware when it's in a 'working stage' though. Every time I try to download a driver, it says 'fatal error.'

The touch screen is nice, but when I'm operating in tablet mode, nearly every button and link I tap requires 14+ taps in frustrating repetition before any one registers. The screen responds to the fact that I'm tapping with the finger graphic, but it refuses to acknowledge that I'm clicking to open something. The windows 8 start menu works just fine, only one tap required for any tile. Everything else, however, program and internet sites, requires many taps before they register. Is there a way to fix this?
Not sure if it's a Windows issue or a hardware issue. I noticed a driver recently released called "Cottonwood LCD touch re-calibration (Dell Internal Only)." Should I try it???
