Dell :: E6400 With Solid State Drive

Jan 10, 2009

E6400 model i'm looking has 64 gb solid state drive and optical drive in the media bay. I'm leaning toward SSD since it's future proof and fast. (it's used one so it's not that expensive)

However, I wonder if its possible to add 2nd hard drive in the system without taking optical drive out. Basically I want to keep SSD, 2nd hard drvie and optical drive within the system all the time.

Dell Inspiron 5523 :: Downgrade OS And Solid State Drive

Apr 30, 2013

I have a brand new Inspiron 5523 Laptop which came with Windows 8 on it. After using it for a couple of weeks I absolutely hate this new OS and want to downgrade to Windows 7 Pro so it matches the OS on my desktop.I have run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check compatibility and the following state "We do not have compatibility information about this device"

Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230
Microsoft XPS Document Writer
Qualcomm Atheros AR8161 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (INDIS 6.30)
Synaptics SMbus Driver

Question 1 - Is it going to be possible to get a Windows 7 Pro Compatible Driver for the above items?

Question 2 - Where can I find a step by step instruction guide to downgrading to Windows 7 Pro?

Question 3 - In addition to the SATA Hard Drive it also has a 32GB Solid State Drive which I understand is used for caching. Will the SSD also be compatible with Windows 7 and provide the same function automatically?

Dell Inspiron 17se :: Solid State Drive Installation

Feb 12, 2013

I recently purchased a Inspiron 17se and wanted to install a 256gb solid state drive as the main drive.  I have created the Dell Recovery Disk set and swapped the drives.  However, upon trying to recover the OS (Windows 8) the recovery disks/tool tells me the hard drive must be at least 916gb (size of the original disk) and cannot continue. The same thing happens with both drives installed (original drive in bay 1).  It seems the recovery disk can't be used for the new drive. is the windows 8 standard downgrade-able with Dell to Windows 7?

I know they are still not cheap - but for right around $500 you can get 256MB SSD drives.

Has anyone done this? Have you seen any improvement in performance? I have been debating on doing this for several reasons.

1. Speed (is it really faster? I have read were some systems can boot up in 10 seconds)

2. Battery - has anyone seen an increase in battery life?

3. Heat & Sound - I assume the system is nearly silent with an SSD. How about heat - does it run cooler?

2. Has anyone ever done this? Is it hard to get inside the case? Hard to swap out the drive?

4. I noticed some are 16MB and some are 8MB. Does it really make a difference?

Apple :: New 13" Macbook Pro User - Hard Drive

Aug 25, 2009

I just bought my first macbook ever. I got the 13.3" MBP with the 160gb 5400 rpm hard drive.

I upgraded the ram already from 2gb -> 4gb, and I was considering upgrading the hard drive. Size isn't too much of an issue for me because I keep most of my songs/movies/pictures on an external, but I was planning on upgrading it to something faster.

I was looking at the 320gb 7200rpm Scorpio Black, and was wondering if anyone has it installed in their unibody MBPs. I was worried about whether it would cause it to vibrate more/be noticeably louder/generate more heat.

I was also considering the seagate momentus equivalent.

Apple :: 17" Macbook Pro - Hard Drive Upgrade

May 13, 2009

I have a 17" Macbook Pro, just prior to the unibody. I currently have the 250gig 5400rpm drive. I want to upgrade to a 320gig 7200rpm drive.

1. Which model HD do you recommend?

2. If you don't screw anything up on install, will the Applecare warranty still be valid? I get conflicting answers on this.

3. I would love to keep my current hard drive OS/Apps intact. I'd like image my drive and put it on my new 320 drive. Any tips or documentation on how to do this? What is required? I do have an external firewire800 drive I can use to store the image.

Apple :: MacBook Pro - How To Setup And Boot Off External FireWire Drive

Jan 23, 2009

I use my MacBook Pro for most everything except at home where I have a desktop system that's a few years old. The MacBook Pro should generally run rings around it except for disk performance and that's something that I'd like to fix. So I picked up a 1 TB MyBook and it's attached to the MacBook Pro right now but the MBP doesn't see the disk. I assume that I need to partition and format the drive.

The MacBook Pro currently has Mac OSX and Windows XP on the internal drive and they work just fine. What I'd like to do is to be able to boot Mac OSX, WinXP x64 and Win32 off of the 1 TB drive. I was hoping to partition it into three pieces and boot whichever OS I wanted at the time.

What I'd like to know is if it is possible to do this (3 OS on one external drive that the Mac could boot from) and how to go about setting this up. I would grab XP x64 and XP Win32 off another machine (that machine has three Windows licenses running) and move them to the MacBook Pro (with Microsoft's help if needed).

Apple :: Macbook V Macbook Pro (My Short Review Based On 2 Hours At PC World's Stand)

Feb 5, 2009

To start I should remind everyone that i'm not a mac user. I have never owned a mac or used OSX properly before today. As such, my opinions should be taken as coming from someone who has much knowledge and experience as far as PC's are concerned, but who is a total mac n00b.

First Impressions

When I first walked over to the Macbooks I was quite taken aback. The build quality is out of this world. In fact, I immediately walked over to the latest PC laptops to compare and immediately thought "manufacturing FAIL". Really, the Macbooks are italian sports cars, and PC's are 30 year old farm tractors to use the typical "car analogy".

The Macbook

I really only had any interest in the Macbook when I first went to the Apple stand, but came away with the intention of buying a MacBook Pro. Let me explain:

The MacBook's build quality is awesome. It's solid, no creaking plastic or flexable build, completely and utterly solid. Awesome.............

Apple :: 15" Macbook/Macbook Pro With Integrated Graphics For Less

Mar 7, 2009

I have been speculating over this prospect giving the direction that Apple took with the starting price of the 24" iMac (upgrade everything else and downgrade the VRAM).

I mean, this is something I would like to see, but I wonder if it is a smart move on Apple's part given how much they make off the current MBP's with the so called Apple Tax.

And, if they made this move, one has to wonder if it still would be considered a Pro.
