HP/Compaq :: HP 8710w CPU Upgrade
I want to upgrade the CPU in a HP 8710w, currently it has an Intel T7300.
Which one is the fastest compatible CPU for this?
Also I don't want to have any over heating issues.
Is this one compatible

HP/Compaq :: 8710w
I bought 8710w (KE191EA) and have some questions and issues:
- CPU and HDD don't get very high, when gaming, but the GPU and mobo get up to 80C and more. I understand that to GPU this is normal, but what about the motherboard?
- while playing games (L4D, COD4 - especially L4D) my laptop constantly locks up for several seconds (still image with looping sound). This problem is not that noticeable while playing UT3, TDU and other games. I never had these problems on my old Asus S96J.
- something is wrong with the HDD, because I can't make a new partition on it. Now it has the system partition (C) and HP recovery (E). When I try to make a partition using PartitionMagic8, I get error 1517 after reboot. CHKDSK should fix this, but it doesn't. Gparted also can't do it, because it shows ! icon besides C: and I can't resize the disk. The reason I want to do this is that I would like to have XP32bit and Vista64bit dual boot (laptop came with XP preinstalled).
HP/Compaq :: 8710w OK With 800Mhz Memory
I know the standard for this model is the 667Mhz DDR2, but I was curious if anyone had luck with 800Mhz memory on this model? I would like to upgrade the memory, but in case I cannot find a good deal on the 667 stuff, wondering if the 800 would work (albeit likely at the slower speed).
Also, any one get a quad-core processor working on this model? I know the T9500 is an awesome processor. I'm just curious.
HP/Compaq :: New 8710W- It Won't Boot Off The Optical Drive
The HP Compaq 8710W I picked up off TigerDirect when it was $750 last week arrived today...but I've run into a couple things that don't make me all that happy.
1) extremely long post. It stays at the BIOS splash page for several seconds more than I think that it should.
2) It won't boot off the optical drive unless I physically tell it to. If I have it set to just go through the boot sequence, it won't boot off the CD.
3) As a part of 2: I've replaced the DVDDL it came with with a BluRay reader/DVDDL. Both drives exhibited the issue.
4) Although this doesn't seem to be an actual problem, it keeps showing up as muted. If I click play in Winamp, it'll start playing. I don't know if it's Win7 related or not.
5) I can't seem to find a way to turn AMT off. I'm not using it in my Thinkpad, and won't be using it here.
HP/Compaq :: Either The BIOS Goes, Or The Laptop Goes Whitelist BIOS For An 8710W
I've run into an issue that has stricken every single laptop, regardless of OS, that I've ran that has an intel 4965N WiFi card. Dell Latitudes, Inspirons, Acers, HPs, Lenovos, Toshibas, Gateway, Sony, XP, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, 32 bit, 64 bit.
Transfers of large files to my NAS, such as DVD ISOs, system images, or VMware images, will result in a failed transfer 100% of the time.
The issue does not occur with Broadcom or Atheros cards, or intel cards such as the the 2915ABG, 2200BG, 5100N, 5300N, 5350N. Just the 4965N.
I have an intel 5100N card I bought for a friend to use in a laptop, but he opted to use a Broadcom card that was supported in OSX. I'd like to use it in the HP to fix this issue, but unfortunately, HP's current whitelisting of WiFi cards prevents me from doing so. find a BIOS that will let me use my 5100N?
HP/Compaq :: DV6 Upgrade
I have a DV6 1150ei
2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7450 3 MB Level 2 cache
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 512MB memory
3Gb DDR2 Ram running on VistaHP
3dMark06 gives me 3333
WEI has 4.7 for Win graphics,5.0 for gaming graphics,rest are 5.1 and over.
With the other card available with the DV6 the ATI Radeon HD 4650 it seems like i should be able to double the above 3dMark06 score according to [url].
What i'm thinking of doing is getting parts & changing to
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processor T9900 - 3.06GHz (Penryn-MV, 1066MHz front side bus, 6MB total Level-2 cache. (Part # 570434-001)
System board (motherboard) - For model with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 graphics, 1GB memory (Part # 518431-001)
CPU fan and heat sink assembly
(Part # 518435-001)
I THINK the 4650 and the T9900 is as high as i can go without risking a bios issue as their both available on a DV6 CTO and appear to use the same bios(F.24A).
To stick to a "P" series processor i would need to go with P8800@2.6GHz.
4650 is still only 64bit so has anyone gotten a better ATI card to run in a DV6? (EDIT: wrong, the 4650 is 128bit)
HP/Compaq :: HP 530 RAM Upgrade
I've got an HP 530 with a Intel Core2 Duo 1.60 GHz 2MB cache, 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM. I want to know how much RAM I can put in the laptop? I was thinking about upgrading to 4GB if possible. I can't find any support pages that tell me the maximum upgrades.
HP/Compaq :: DV7 Upgrade
I just purchased a brand new HP DV7-1232nr laptop.
-what does the "nr" suffix mean on this model?
-What caddy part number do I look for if I want to install a 2nd hard drive?
-I see there is a plug on the bottom side, under the cover to install a tuner. What can I install there and can I pop the small circular cover off where an antenna would connect near the power plug on the right side?
-What other options, upgrades, or mods can I do to this model?
4g ram, 320G HD, 2.2Ghz AMD Turion X2
HP/Compaq :: CPU Upgrade
I have hp8510p (intel gm965 chipset) with intel T9300 cpu. Can this be upgraded (at home)? Is this even possible to change notebook CPU?
If yes - what specs must be same old vs new? Socket is "P-478" so this has to be same, should the FSB speed be the same also?
One more question - I've got pc2-5300 333mhz ddr2 memory. can I put there something faster?
edit> is upgradit of the GPU possible? can I change the pci-express video card? I've got radeon 2600hd, could this be changed?
I'm just looking to the future because I want more processing power but I don't want to buy whole new notebook...
HP/Compaq :: Upgrade CPU, RAM, HD For My DV9305tx
I was wondering what is the best CPU that I am able to upgrade to with my HP DV9305tx, T7200? And also what RAM is recommended? As I've still only got the stock 2GB.. Same goes with the hard drives. I'm guessing that's about all that I can upgrade?
Even though this laptop has suffered from heat issues, it's been a great work companion for the last few years, and is perfect for my design work, so I really don't want to upgrade to a new laptop, but I DO need a little more speed if it's possible.
HP/Compaq :: HP V2000 Upgrade
two specific questions:
1) When my wife bought me this laptop back in 2005, it did not come with internal wireless, therefore no antennas behind the display. I see that the parts are on eBay for relatively cheap, so has anyone added Antennas behind their display? Or should I just get the antennas that stay in the base?
2) I just ordered a processor off eBay for $15 to upgrade from my Celeron M 1.4 GHz to Pentium M 1.6 GHz. I found the HP manual on how to replace the CPU, but I was wondering if there were any steps I could cut out? It has me removing the keyboard, key switch cover, and a lot of other things that don't seem necessary. Has anyone done this type of upgrade?
HP/Compaq :: Modify/upgrade The DV5
i am a DV5 (1009TX) user from Oz (but not aussie....so excuse language mistakes) .. i bought this laptop (against my better judgement...because i enjoy desktops for their upgradeability (not to mention the cost effectiveness of their upgrades) anyways....i wanted something along the lines of the DV5 (with the T9400/4GB/9600M GT [ouch] ) so that i could eke out some playability with GTA4..... which i am ...ok to say...that it is moderately playable till now on the low-middish visuals
thing is i wanted to modify this laptop to some degree (i do not want to rip out it's guts) and wanted your help
can we install a second SSD/HDD INTO the chassis of this laptop (DV5 aka 15"..ie would it have place to install another hdd internally)
if i were to install a 2/4GB SDHC class 6/4 card, would it be just as effective as a readyboost USB drive or a turbo mem from intel
is the turbo mem installable in this PC, i have 2 slots of PCIex1 available acc. to everest.. (i know HP doesn't like intel, and gave up support for this seemingly annoying tech....but just for mod's/bragging rights)
SSD as an express drive (any real experiences with it....cuz this would be a secondary option if i were not able to install it inside the chassis.... would it retain it's features (being bootable and fast) if it were to be used as such ( i have read a non techie review that PERHAPS it would not be quite so effective...
HP/Compaq :: HP DV2550se Upgrade
I have a Hp DV2550se and 6 months back i upgraded my laptop from windows vista to windows 7 as i purchased it from my university. I did the upgrade myself and also updated the drivers all by myself.
My specs are as follow:
HD: 160gb 540rpm
RAM: 2gb DDR2
Microprocessor:1.5 GHz Intel® Centrino® Duo processor technology featuring Intel® Core ™ 2 Duo processor T5250 32 BIT
Video Graphics:Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (shared)
Video Memory:Up to 384 MB
I want to upgrade my laptop to 500gb hard drive and 4gb ram AND i also want to upgrade my video card to 1gb G-Force. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to such specs from what i currently have right now.
HP/Compaq :: Upgrade My Nc6400
here is my specs;
Chipset: Mobile Intel Calistoga-GM i945GM
3D accelerator: Intel GMA 950
IDE controller: ICH7-M Family Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C4
I think that is enough. Basically I want to know exactly what CPU's are compatible for an upgrade and also if it is possible also to upgrade my DVD drive (currently its a 6x MATA DVD-RAM UJ-842S).
I doubt this but worth asking: is there a chance that I can change the network card to a 802.11n?
HP/Compaq :: DV7-2070ED Cpu Upgrade
I recently bought a DV7-2070ED with a T4200 cpu on board. Is it possible to replace it with a P8400 cpu?
I already replaced the T4200 with the P8400 (came from a broken down HP6730B notebook) but the thing won't start then. The P8400 is okay and working, so that should not be the problem.
Could it be the bios? I already found out that my DV7 is (almost) similar to the DV7t-series and they support cpu's like the P8600. Also the DV7t seems to use the same bios.
HP/Compaq :: Nw8440 Upgrade
question for those that are knowledgeable in the area of upgrades. I have a nw8440 with a T2400 with 2 GB of 266MHz RAM and a 60GB HD. I would like to change out the HD for a WD Scorpio 320 GB and change out the 2GB of RAM for either 2GB or 4GB of 667 MHz, yes I am well aware of the 3 GB limit for 32 bit OS. As for the CPU I would also like to change over to a T7600 intel chip, the sockets are the same.
Is there any thing different in installing a new OS in this laptop compared to a desktop? In my limited time here so far I have picked up that I need all the drivers first before I install the OS, is that correct?
Have I forgotten anything? The HD and RAM would be first, with the CPU to come later depending on funds available.
HP/Compaq :: Upgrade My Warrenty

HP/Compaq :: RAM Upgrade- On N620c
I ordered an extra gigabyte of RAM for my Compaq Evo N620c figuring that it would speed the computer up and make it useful longer. I popped off the RAM cover no problem (under the palmrest in what is one of the worst design decisions I've ever seen) and installed one chip in the first slot with no issues. However when I went to remove the 512MB chip from slot 2 I saw the following:
The second chip is somehow blocked by a piece of the chassis in the top right corner. Consequently I can't figure out how to remove the chip and have no idea how it got there in the first place. Can anyone help out with this one? HP support was worthless, refusing to help even though the unit is under warranty (yes, you read that correctly. My Evo is still under warranty thanks to HP Care Packs).
HP/Compaq :: Memory Upgrade- Low Fps
I have a m7750n HP Pavilion PC, it comes with 2 gigs of memory. I just purchased a GeForce 9800 gtx+ graphics card and installed it, it uses 1 gig of memory.
When I play games my psychical memory shoots up to almost 100% and have a very low fps. I was wondering if there is a way to improve this. Is my system eligible to get another gig?
HP/Compaq :: Vista 32 Bit Upgrade To 64 Bit
How would we go about upgrading the Vista OS to 64 bit? Apparently had no choice of ordering 64 bit when I took advantage of the free vista upgrade from xp professional.
Now I want the 64 bit instead of the 32 bit, but I have the 32 bit CD. Anyway to obtain the 64 Bit CD and use the 32 Bit serial I received with the Vista upgrade CD?
HP/Compaq :: HDX16 Possible Upgrade
I have an HDX 16-1140us laptop and wanted to upgrade the processor from the P8600 to maybe a T9600 or T9800. Any Ideas if this is even possible, would there be a conflict with motherboard and new processor like compatibility wise? Is there any major difference from P8600 and the T9600 or T9800?
Also is it a hard process to replace the processor myself. Was wondering if it is a complicated process.
HP/Compaq :: HDX9000 Upgrade
I have said laptop, with the ATI. I was wondering if anyone has performed a mobo upgrade to HP pn 464591-001 in order to use video card HP pn 454311-001. Love my comp, but would like a little more performance for L4D and what not.
HP/Compaq :: Upgrade V2010
I'm trying to upgrade my parents' laptop to a quicker processor (and in doing so, convince them to stop using their desktop). I can't figure out which ones would be comaptible with this laptop though. It's a Compaq V2010US with a Celeron M 330 processor
It would also be nice to know the maximum memory on this thing too.
HP/Compaq :: HP Nx9420 MXM III Upgrade
I’ve been scouring the web in between work looking for a master 3870 BIOS, but haven’t been able to find one. My wife killed her HP nx9420 vid card by leaving it on the bed, suffocating the old X1600. I figured if I'm going through the time, money, and effort to replace it, I might as well upgrade to a better GPU. I verified card dimensions, part numbers, slot types, etc before purchasing the Mobility 3870 as a replacement, but the brains of the system is another issue. I may need a couple different BIOS files to attempt this since the 3870s were never a native component on any HP notebooks and I may need to compare hex values and modify some features within it to get it working.
HP/Compaq :: Dv9420us 4gb Ram Upgrade
I've been looking around to make a ram upgrade for my laptop and I found this post [url] and it seems that someone has been able to make the 4gb upgrade even though supposedly the motherboard doesnt handle it. I've looked around on the net and some sites say that possibly the dv9420us may recognize the ram upgrade.
I need to know if anyone besides the dude from the post has been able to do this and still have a working laptop instead of a burnt one... Please any info regarding what type of ram, places to buy, etc.
HP/Compaq :: Cq50- Upgrade

HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion Dv5 Upgrade
I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1215ee with the following specifications:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6400
(2 GHz; 2MB Level 2 Cache; 800 MHz FSB)
My questions are:
1) Is my notebook capable of upgrading its processor from T6400 to T9600 (2.80 GHz; 6MB Level 2 Cache; 1066 MHz FSB)?
2) If so, then it would mean that it would be a decrease of its battery life, right?
3) And if I do upgrade, is the difference noticeable? I mean, if my RAM would still be 2GB DDR2, and if I do upgrade, is the change very noticeable?
HP/Compaq :: Notebook CPU And GPU Upgrade

Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53 GHz, Level 2 cache 6MB).

Nvidia GEforce 9600M GT
I have none experience moding a notebook before and i need some information.
-To begin with, how would i know if i can replace my processor, and what processors should be compatible with my system? Would a more powerful CPU cause problem to my system's cooling ability?
-The GPU is coming built-in with the motherboard? Can i update to any notebook-based GPU i want?

HP/Compaq :: HP TouchSmart Tx2 UpGrade
I own a HP TouchSmart tx2 with the following configuration:
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74 2.20 GHz
Internal Memory: 4 GB
Windows 7 64 bit Operating System
What I need to know is the largest CPU that could be used with this laptop. Also would you recommend upgrading to 8GB memory?
I use my laptop approx 12 hours per day as the internet is my job hence the need for speed and I really do not want to buy another laptop.

I have one more than 6 yr old HP Business Notebook, NC4010, lately I got one DANE-ELEC SSD (INTEL x18-M SATA 80G), and like to upgrade NC4010.
1. Mechanical form fit should be no problem ?
2. What else I need to be careful with ? (BIOS, Driver?)
My idea is to continue to use this NC4010 to be my "Netbook" in the office, and mobility + Office/INTERNET is all I need in the office.

Or does the upgrade kit only allow you to install windows 7 on the same laptop?

My roommate has a DV9000 with a wifiG card in it. We live in an apartment complex with 30-40 networks within our range. I am a Thinkpad guy so I don't know how easy it would be, but is there an internal WifiN card for this laptop so we could move to a 5Ghz network?
HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion Dv8229ea RAM Upgrade
I own HP Pavilion DV8229ea [url]
currently I have 1024 MB DDR2 533 MHz (2 x 512 MB) and I want to upgrade the RAM to 2Gb.
I want to remove the current slots that are installed and I will buy and install 2 new slots, each one is Kingston 1GB 667Mhz DDRII (2Gb in total).
My question is:
Will it work on 667Mhz or will it be downgraded to 533Mhz? Or maybe it will not work at all
On HP website it's not written that the mainboard supports 667Mhz FSB.
HP/Compaq :: How Do I Preactivate My Win7 Upgrade
When i was on vista i used orev's activation backup and restore whenever i made a clean vista install. Now when i got the windows 7 upgrade from HP i have no idea how to do the same. For now it's activated with the win7 home premium key on the upgrade dvd. Does anyone have any idea how to preactivate win7 hp?
As i understand 3 things are necessary for preactivation:
1. SLIC 2.1 bios with key - Got it
2. HP OEM certificate for win7 - Missing
3. HP OEM-SLP key for win7 home premium - Missing i think
I guess i need the hp oem certificate and hp oem-slp key for win7 homepremium - can i contact HP for it or can a good sole on this forum email me a copy?

HP/Compaq :: Windows 7, Is It Worth The Upgrade
Some people may remember me as not liking Vista too much, and going out of my way to keep XP or installing XP in place of Vista.
I have used Vista for some time though, and familiarized myself to it. I used it for about a year if anyone is interested (still have XP on my main laptop though).
I have been out of the loop regarding technology and software, and last week, I found out that Windows 7 came out. I remember reading about Windows 7 and heard its supposed to be this "GREAT AWESOME NEW OS YO" and "waaayyyy better than Vista... cant wait for it to come out". So I got excited, made plans to buy a new HDD and install it on my ancient but still running dv9500t. Before I actually make that sort of investment and commitment, I went to Best Buy to try it on their laptops...
To me, its just like Vista. It looks and acts just like Vista. Am I missing something here?
Are there supposed to be great improvements? If so, then what? And how true are these claims?
A quick look at the new Windows 7 site by Microsoft showed me that they are comparing the Windows XP from the stone age to Windows 7, rather than compare Vista and Win7... that makes me laugh and wonder. The things that they list about Windows 7, I noticed that Vista had them too, with the exception of "shake the window and only focus on it". Whats going on here?
