I bought 8710w (KE191EA) and have some questions and issues:
- CPU and HDD don't get very high, when gaming, but the GPU and mobo get up to 80C and more. I understand that to GPU this is normal, but what about the motherboard?
- while playing games (L4D, COD4 - especially L4D) my laptop constantly locks up for several seconds (still image with looping sound). This problem is not that noticeable while playing UT3, TDU and other games. I never had these problems on my old Asus S96J.
- something is wrong with the HDD, because I can't make a new partition on it. Now it has the system partition (C) and HP recovery (E). When I try to make a partition using PartitionMagic8, I get error 1517 after reboot. CHKDSK should fix this, but it doesn't. Gparted also can't do it, because it shows ! icon besides C: and I can't resize the disk. The reason I want to do this is that I would like to have XP32bit and Vista64bit dual boot (laptop came with XP preinstalled).
I know the standard for this model is the 667Mhz DDR2, but I was curious if anyone had luck with 800Mhz memory on this model? I would like to upgrade the memory, but in case I cannot find a good deal on the 667 stuff, wondering if the 800 would work (albeit likely at the slower speed).
Also, any one get a quad-core processor working on this model? I know the T9500 is an awesome processor. I'm just curious.
I've run into an issue that has stricken every single laptop, regardless of OS, that I've ran that has an intel 4965N WiFi card. Dell Latitudes, Inspirons, Acers, HPs, Lenovos, Toshibas, Gateway, Sony, XP, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, 32 bit, 64 bit.
Transfers of large files to my NAS, such as DVD ISOs, system images, or VMware images, will result in a failed transfer 100% of the time.
The issue does not occur with Broadcom or Atheros cards, or intel cards such as the the 2915ABG, 2200BG, 5100N, 5300N, 5350N. Just the 4965N.
I have an intel 5100N card I bought for a friend to use in a laptop, but he opted to use a Broadcom card that was supported in OSX. I'd like to use it in the HP to fix this issue, but unfortunately, HP's current whitelisting of WiFi cards prevents me from doing so. find a BIOS that will let me use my 5100N?
I've got an HP 530 with a Intel Core2 Duo 1.60 GHz 2MB cache, 160GB HDD, 2GB RAM. I want to know how much RAM I can put in the laptop? I was thinking about upgrading to 4GB if possible. I can't find any support pages that tell me the maximum upgrades.
I just purchased a brand new HP DV7-1232nr laptop.
-what does the "nr" suffix mean on this model?
-What caddy part number do I look for if I want to install a 2nd hard drive?
-I see there is a plug on the bottom side, under the cover to install a tuner. What can I install there and can I pop the small circular cover off where an antenna would connect near the power plug on the right side?
-What other options, upgrades, or mods can I do to this model?
I was wondering what is the best CPU that I am able to upgrade to with my HP DV9305tx, T7200? And also what RAM is recommended? As I've still only got the stock 2GB.. Same goes with the hard drives. I'm guessing that's about all that I can upgrade?
Even though this laptop has suffered from heat issues, it's been a great work companion for the last few years, and is perfect for my design work, so I really don't want to upgrade to a new laptop, but I DO need a little more speed if it's possible.
1) When my wife bought me this laptop back in 2005, it did not come with internal wireless, therefore no antennas behind the display. I see that the parts are on eBay for relatively cheap, so has anyone added Antennas behind their display? Or should I just get the antennas that stay in the base?
2) I just ordered a processor off eBay for $15 to upgrade from my Celeron M 1.4 GHz to Pentium M 1.6 GHz. I found the HP manual on how to replace the CPU, but I was wondering if there were any steps I could cut out? It has me removing the keyboard, key switch cover, and a lot of other things that don't seem necessary. Has anyone done this type of upgrade?
i am a DV5 (1009TX) user from Oz (but not aussie....so excuse language mistakes) .. i bought this laptop (against my better judgement...because i enjoy desktops for their upgradeability (not to mention the cost effectiveness of their upgrades) anyways....i wanted something along the lines of the DV5 (with the T9400/4GB/9600M GT [ouch] ) so that i could eke out some playability with GTA4..... which i am ...ok to say...that it is moderately playable till now on the low-middish visuals
thing is i wanted to modify this laptop to some degree (i do not want to rip out it's guts) and wanted your help
can we install a second SSD/HDD INTO the chassis of this laptop (DV5 aka 15"..ie would it have place to install another hdd internally)
if i were to install a 2/4GB SDHC class 6/4 card, would it be just as effective as a readyboost USB drive or a turbo mem from intel
is the turbo mem installable in this PC, i have 2 slots of PCIex1 available acc. to everest.. (i know HP doesn't like intel, and gave up support for this seemingly annoying tech....but just for mod's/bragging rights)
SSD as an express drive (any real experiences with it....cuz this would be a secondary option if i were not able to install it inside the chassis.... would it retain it's features (being bootable and fast) if it were to be used as such ( i have read a non techie review that PERHAPS it would not be quite so effective...
I have a Hp DV2550se and 6 months back i upgraded my laptop from windows vista to windows 7 as i purchased it from my university. I did the upgrade myself and also updated the drivers all by myself.
My specs are as follow:
HD: 160gb 540rpm RAM: 2gb DDR2 Microprocessor:1.5 GHz Intel® Centrino® Duo processor technology featuring Intel® Core ™ 2 Duo processor T5250 32 BIT Video Graphics:Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (shared) Video Memory:Up to 384 MB
I want to upgrade my laptop to 500gb hard drive and 4gb ram AND i also want to upgrade my video card to 1gb G-Force. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to such specs from what i currently have right now.
question for those that are knowledgeable in the area of upgrades. I have a nw8440 with a T2400 with 2 GB of 266MHz RAM and a 60GB HD. I would like to change out the HD for a WD Scorpio 320 GB and change out the 2GB of RAM for either 2GB or 4GB of 667 MHz, yes I am well aware of the 3 GB limit for 32 bit OS. As for the CPU I would also like to change over to a T7600 intel chip, the sockets are the same.
Is there any thing different in installing a new OS in this laptop compared to a desktop? In my limited time here so far I have picked up that I need all the drivers first before I install the OS, is that correct?
Have I forgotten anything? The HD and RAM would be first, with the CPU to come later depending on funds available.
is the first year when you buy the laptop consider a "HP standard warranty period" because i want to upgrade the warrenty for acidental drop warrenty for hp. Is it possible to upgrade if the "basic manufactory warrenty" didnt expire yet?
I ordered an extra gigabyte of RAM for my Compaq Evo N620c figuring that it would speed the computer up and make it useful longer. I popped off the RAM cover no problem (under the palmrest in what is one of the worst design decisions I've ever seen) and installed one chip in the first slot with no issues. However when I went to remove the 512MB chip from slot 2 I saw the following:
The second chip is somehow blocked by a piece of the chassis in the top right corner. Consequently I can't figure out how to remove the chip and have no idea how it got there in the first place. Can anyone help out with this one? HP support was worthless, refusing to help even though the unit is under warranty (yes, you read that correctly. My Evo is still under warranty thanks to HP Care Packs).
I have an HDX 16-1140us laptop and wanted to upgrade the processor from the P8600 to maybe a T9600 or T9800. Any Ideas if this is even possible, would there be a conflict with motherboard and new processor like compatibility wise? Is there any major difference from P8600 and the T9600 or T9800?
Also is it a hard process to replace the processor myself. Was wondering if it is a complicated process.
I have said laptop, with the ATI. I was wondering if anyone has performed a mobo upgrade to HP pn 464591-001 in order to use video card HP pn 454311-001. Love my comp, but would like a little more performance for L4D and what not.
I'm trying to upgrade my parents' laptop to a quicker processor (and in doing so, convince them to stop using their desktop). I can't figure out which ones would be comaptible with this laptop though. It's a Compaq V2010US with a Celeron M 330 processor It would also be nice to know the maximum memory on this thing too.
I’ve been scouring the web in between work looking for a master 3870 BIOS, but haven’t been able to find one. My wife killed her HP nx9420 vid card by leaving it on the bed, suffocating the old X1600. I figured if I'm going through the time, money, and effort to replace it, I might as well upgrade to a better GPU. I verified card dimensions, part numbers, slot types, etc before purchasing the Mobility 3870 as a replacement, but the brains of the system is another issue. I may need a couple different BIOS files to attempt this since the 3870s were never a native component on any HP notebooks and I may need to compare hex values and modify some features within it to get it working.
I've been looking around to make a ram upgrade for my laptop and I found this post [url] and it seems that someone has been able to make the 4gb upgrade even though supposedly the motherboard doesnt handle it. I've looked around on the net and some sites say that possibly the dv9420us may recognize the ram upgrade.
I need to know if anyone besides the dude from the post has been able to do this and still have a working laptop instead of a burnt one... Please any info regarding what type of ram, places to buy, etc.
i purchased a compaq presario cq50 model, and i already upgraded my ram to 3gb, and the hp site says i should be able to upgrade to 4gb. also i have a hdmi port blocked up, so can i add a hdmi port? what can i do to upgrade it more?
because i plan to have this laptop for 3-5 years but i also plan on buying a desktop replacement laptop this summer.
