HP/Compaq :: HP HDX 16 Is Slow When Set To "Power Saver"
Feb 9, 2010
I have an HP HDX 16 that has been giving me some trouble. The problem is that when I set the computer to Power Saver mode it slows to a crawl and I can't hardly move the mouse or type anything. This has happened to me ever since I moved to Windows 7 which is the official upgrade program from Arvato and HP. At first I thought it was a fluke but I previously had a clean install of Windows 7 with no bloat ware and it did the same thing. This has got to be some type of software issue becasue the laptop is rock solid otherwise and no crashing.
Also my remote stopped working after the upgrade. What specific driver update gets this going again?

I have an M1730
8700M GT SLI
2.4GHz C2D
2 Hard Drives....specs in the signature...
anyway, I'm wondering if there is any program, script, or something similar that will, when on battery power:
Turn off all LED lights (Monitor case, speaker LEDs, touchpad LEDs), turn off the NIC card, and turn off one of the graphics cards, and turn down the monitor brightness.
As of right now, doing basically nothing (writing this post) I get about 1 hour 22 minutes of battery life.
I know that Dell's little program Quickset can handle the LEDs, but I dont want to have to run that program in order to turn off the LEDs on battery. Also I know that some power options (screen brightness) is handled in the Power Options but I'd like it so that when I unplug the computer from AC power, it does everything mentioned above...and then when i plug back in, all the lights and gizmo's and graphics cards come back on.
Anyone know how to do this?..I just want everything to be automatic and easy.

I was wondering if the battery on the laptop is covered by warranty, i had my computer for about 9 months and i just ran a program to see my laptop battery life and it rated it at a 45% wear level
The laptop battery is 57720mWh stock and mines at 31402mWh now
I used to be able to run through 2- 1 hour classes on power saver with full brightness

In playing games the mouse either has a mouse lag or is slow when using battery power..
Works fine when the power adapter is attached. Tried different settings in the power. This happens for both wireless through USB or wired..

can anyone provide me with a link to download this, after upgrading to windows 7 I no longer have it.
There might be a possibility to get it from my data drive or one of the other partitions as I have only installed W7 on the C drive encase I needed to go back to vista.

I recently updated my Dell m4800 to BIOS A8 with Windows 7 64. I had been using a collection of older power adapters from my previous Dell m4400 without any issues. After the update, wow. A huge performance hit if I do not have the 19.5 volt and 9.23 amp adapter connected.
The m4400 power adapter is 19.5 volt and 6.7 amp. Pretty close right? Not any more.
I do have it connected to a Dell docking station almost all the time. Just checked. They are both 6.7 amp.
What changed in BIOS A8 and what the deal is with the performance? Looks like I need to request a new docking station, but I'm not sure IT will believe my story.

Sometimes when I leave my Helix alone the screen saver kick in. When I try to use the Laptop again after a while, it has turned on the (back) camera and the camera app is completely stuck. No swipe, no Alt-F4 or Alt tab can get it out of there. I have to hold the powerbutton down for a hard-power off.
Seems to me this is a software problem. I tried to install the new Settings app this morning. (this refreshes the camera sw and other drivers) but no improvements. Same problem remains.

I just bought a Sandisk 8GB USB 2.0 memory stick. I'm transfering 4.7 GB worth of music and its taking 25 minutes? There is no way USB 2.0 is that slow, should take close to 2 minutes.
I checked system settings and all drivers seem installed correctly.

it has 1 gig of ram and has a amd turion x2 tl-53 proc, yet it is so slow, i have another laptop which is a hp 6720s with an intel celeron 530 1.73ghz single core and that is miles faster than this dv? also has 1 gig of ram both running windows 7 beta. little update, when i first turn the laptop on and wait for everything to load up i then click firefox and this takes 28 seconds to open up, surely there is something wrong here, aquamark3 shows around 2000 for the amd cpu and around 7000 for the celeron.

when i first got it, right out of the box without messing with services or changing anything, startup was around 40seconds. i could crysis on super high at about 27fps.
Now, i installed GTA4, which is the only other thing i did after crysising, no messing with services or installing other stuff, and my startup = about 1min, even though i take out the rockstar social club from startup.
I got really ticked off, so i reinstalled vista. complete format, everything. didn't mess with services or startup or anything, just let it run on its own. my startup is now 1min 45 seconds! and i can only crysis on medium at 23fps.....which really sucks.
does anybody have any ideas why? I have posted this question in yahoo answers and i get all sorts of people who don't read and tell me to disable this service, disable stuff in my startup....i have the exact same number of startup items and services running on those 3 scenarios.....

Specs:
HP Dv2700
2 Tl-62's @ 2.1GHz
4gigs of Ram
64bit op system
NVIDIA GeForce 7150m/nForce 630m
Toshiba ATA 220gig HD (75 free gigs)
So I've had this problem for a while now and I cannot seem to get a fix for it. When I first bought my computer it was so fast. I would be able to run azerus, iTunes and Firefox with multiple tabs while watching HD videos on gametrailers with a perfectly good frame rate, and everything worked flawlessly.
However now I can hardly watch a video on youtube, the frame rate drops incredibly low and any video, unless is extremely low quality is hardly watchable. The fan is loud (which after reading a few threads found out was pretty common) and the laptop runs pretty hot. I've always ran Trend Micro AntiVirus (recommended from bestbuy) and even now there is no virus detected.
The real downer comes when I look at the task manager performance tab to try and figure out whats going on. I'll notice the processor speeds (on both) are very inconsistent and jump around. Also the physical memory never goes over 1.7gigs of usage. Even when the processor is running at 100% and I have multiple programs open it sort of peaks at 1.7 gigs. So right now I'm thinking that for some reason the laptop isn't accessing all of the available ram and is bottle necking the processor. HOWEVER, I ran Memory Test for 8 hour straight (overnight) and only then did the physical memory peak at 4gigs.

my HP dv4 1222. It's been like this since i got it like 4-6 months ago. Whenever there's a lot of flash going on, be it a flash game or a full screen youtube, hulu video etc, the computer skips frames and gets real choppy. I know these are all flash based, and wondered if the computer is just a POS cuz the amd processor cant handle flash well. It's a Turion x2 2.1 ghz with 4gb RAM, and the radeon hd3200 graphics, so i dunno what the heck is wrong with it.

I have a dv1000t HP Pavilion with XP home edition.
I have been trying to download Windows compatibility pak so Office 2003 can read office 2007 documents.
I had no problems download it on my z70va ASUS. It downloaded in just a few minutes.
But on the HP -- the download is taking over an hour.
When this first happened, I though there was some malware on it. I run AVG Internet security all the time. But just to be on the safe side I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy and checked with that -- nothing (though I did have it delete all my temporary files, Super AntiSPyware, nothing, Malwarebytes AntiMalware -- it found one registry infection Hijack.start. From what I read elsewhere that's a false positive but I deleted it anyway.
I also installed SP3 on the HP a few days before all this.
My internet is a high speed DSL and both the HP and the ASUS are on it. SO I don't think that is the explanation.
It seems a little bit like even IE is loading slightly slow -- but I am not sure if that is my imagination.

I had enabled quick boot option in BIOS but it seem doesn't work because the time needed for booting does not change, such as before a quick boot is enabled

I have an hp l2005co (lance armstrong edition) that has started to go extremely slow. I tried formatting and even downgrading to xp. The xp installation took 6 yes 6 hours. I ram memtest86 and it found zero errors. I also replaced the hd with a new one and I got the same thing. I got an application that tells me the temperatures and idle they would hover at around 60 degrees celsius. I took the computer apart and took the terrible little cushion off the heatsink and applied some thermal grease and now it idles at around 48 degrees celsius. Even after I did that, it's still running excruciatingly slow. Startup times increased drastically though.

My battery died a few months ago on my nc8430. It's not an oem batter, but was a third the price. When running on the battery power, the computer is very slow. I have to have NHC on MAX Performance to watch youtube @ low res, or even type without lag. Even with this there is lag on the system. With NHC set to Max Battery, the computer is nearly unusable. Now I've been using the computer for a while, at Max Battery, and AC power, with now problems. And if i plug in the power cable, but change nothing, the system runs at normal speed.
Can a battery cause this type of behavior? Should I return it?

My HP 6910p is doing extremely slow as long as the AC adapter is connected, but fine when only running on battery.
Problem remains when disconnecting the battery and only running with the AC connected.
Problem exists outside operating system (ie. also in BIOS).
When AC is connected the CPU load is constantly high, otherwise it isn't.
Booting XP with AC connected gives blue screen. Unable to see the error code before it reboots. Booting with battery only works fine.
Problem remains after updating BIOS+reset to default values.

i just disassembled my dv5t to fix an issue i was having with the screen. the screen seems to work fine now however it is running ungodly slow.
in order to get to my screen cables i had to take out the Following:
-hard drive
-WLAN module
-Switch cover & keyboard
-the display bezel
i'm not exactly sure what might be causing this because it was working just fine (except for my screen issue) before the disassembly
also it seems to run a little bit better in safe mode but its still slow
after playing with it for a while its main problem is booting and programs are crashing. it takes about 10 minutes to fully boot and then it runs at a normal speed however programs keep crashing like crazy.

I purchased an 8510p
It first started when I was doing a light activity (word processing). What happened was both CPUs shot up to 100 percent and everything became horribly slow. Left/right Clicking on an item or the Start orb might take 30 seconds or longer before it would work. Task Manager showed 100 percent CPU usage under performances, but sorting by CPU processes, only 10-15 percent was being used.
I restarted, and to my surprise, instead of the nice under 1 minute load time to the desktop, to took at least 15 minutes where both CPUs were constantly at 100 percent. Safe mode was also very sluggish, where I stopped non-essential processes with msconfig. So I yanked my HDD and did a backup just so I wouldn't lose anything. After a few hours of the 8510p sitting, I put back the HDD and the machine worked perfectly for about an hour, then both CPUs shot up again to 100 percent. Once the issue happens, it occurs everytime I reboot regardless of how I boot into Windows. After being powered off for 4 or more hours (or overnight), It might work for an hour or so and then become horribly sluggish, or it might start out being sluggish, too. (BTW, no viruses)
So I got on the instant chat with HP support and told them about my issue. My tech had me switch out my 2 gigs of RAM with another laptop, but that didn't fix the loading issue. He said it needed to be sent in, so I received my box last Tuesday. On Wednesday, I got a call from HP saying my machine was fine and the only problem was my battery was dead and that would cost me 212 dollars (I don't know where they pulled that number, because a new battery on their website is 109). Great, the time it would actually work for an hour, it works perfectly there. I told them that I didn't need a new battery (I pretty much use it as a desktop at home), but that there was some other issue. She said she would email the "advanced" repair guys to look at my machine...

I have an HP Compaq nx7400. I've had it for over 3 years now. I've never changed its battery ever since I bought it.
Specs: [url]
Over the past few weeks, I've been having an unusual problem. Whenever I plug the AC adapter to my laptop, the whole laptop performance - from the second I switch it on - is very slow. The moment I pull the AC adapter from the laptop, it instantly operates at a normal and fast speed again!
I figured that it must have been a problem with the AC adapter (it's had its fair share of use - being swung around and dragged to lectures...). So I ordered another one off Ebay. Today, I got the new adapter and when I plugged it in, the laptop only went on AC power. It worked fine - fast as normal. However, it was not charging - just on AC power. I am starting to question if the adapter was really as "genuine" like it was advertised on eBay. But anyway... after about 4 hours with the new adapter on AC power, it stopped recognizing the battery altogether and alerted me with a Critical Battery sign. Of course, a few minutes later, it went dead on me - the laptop switched off. It was as if I removed the AC adapter myself, only I hadn't. Now, I am trying to plug it in again (the new one), to see if it will be able to power up again and it just won't respond at all.
On the other hand, when I put the old AC adapter, the laptop switches on but doesn't charge. Again, it is extremely slow with the adapter on, and fast when I pull the wire out. Only for a minute or so until it dies on me again...

I had a friend bring me her HP DV6000 telling me it won't boot.
When the power switch is pressed, all the lights come on for about 4 seconds, then go off. The screen never initializes.
I have noticed that touching the pad near the on switch/speakers will have the same effect.
I popped the switch panel and it looks to be plugged in and all the wiring intact.
I borrowed a known good battery and charger and it makes no difference.
The existing battery and charger work fine in the other DV6000.
Is it possible I need a new switch or cable? or is the mainboard toast?

Several weeks ago I replaced the power socket on my dv6500t because I had to pull the power cord in a certain directions. (see the thread here: dv6500 Power problem) For a few days it seemed to help although I moving the laptop in a few directions still cased the AC power to cut out.
Now after a bunch of weeks, it's back to where it was before. i.e. I have to pull the cord in basically one of two directions to get AC power. I'm assuming with these symptoms either the power socket on my laptop is screwed up again or there is something wrong with my power cord. Could it be anything else?
At this point, I feel like it's probably the power cord, but I don't want to pony up 150$ only to find out I'm wrong. I could send it into HP for them to fix it. It's a nice machine (core2 2.4ghz, 4 gb ram, etc)
