HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion Dv9750ep And Windows 7 In Dual Boot

I own a HP Pavilion Laptop.
It says "HP Pavilion dv9000" on the screen frame, and says "HP Pavilion dv9700" and "dv9750ep" on the labels in the back. Guess it makes it a HP Pavilion dv9750ep?
It has 2 Hard Disks, each of 150GB; I believe it's 2 physical disks and not just partitions as in the device manager shows 2 ...

It came with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.
My issue is:
I'd like to try the beta of Windows 7, using the 2nd Hard Disk for that. I've been using it mainly for data backup, but as I have an external drive I guess I could make the 2nd dirsk free for trying Windows 7.
My reason for wanting to try Windows 7 is Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Some of my buddies tried it in Windows 7 and are reporting a noticeable performance increase.
When it comes to Laptops, and since this is my first one, I'm very reluctant to these moves - mainly because of the proprietary drivers... for instance, if I want to update my NVidia card drivers that must be made through HP and not through the regular channels - or so I think.
Questions:
Would it be possible to install Windows 7 on the 2nd Hard Disk and make it a Dual Boot system?
My notebook model is  HP PAVILION 15-n205tx  Click here for product details  My notebook pc is installed with Windows 8.1 and i would like to dual boot it with Windows 7 using a cd but when i try it ,there is an error saying windows cannot be installed in the selected partitions as it is of GPT format.  How to dual boot my pc.
I'm running Vista 32 bit on my notebook and desktop and I have an xps 1640 on its way with Vista 64. I've always been very happy with Vista but I would like to try Windows 7..
I haven't set up a dual boot system since Windows 3.11, so I was wondering if the process is pretty straight-forward? When I start up the Windows 7 install dvd, will there be an option to setup dual boot?..
I'd like to try this on my xps 1530 first, but I want to make sure that I don't do something that would crater the Vista OS currently on it. Would I be better off waiting for my 1640 to arrive to play with Windows 7?.
I have an Acer Aspire 8930G-7665, OEM Windows Vista x64. I want to set it up to dual boot between Vista and Windows 7, hence the thread title. However, I've had nothing but problems since the beginning.
Forgetting all the issues getting it partitioned, which I've done, I can't get the computer to boot off the DVD. This is strange because the same DVD worked fine on a Dell unit previously.
The first hurdle is that I can't get it to present me an option to boot from CD. The workaround is to change the boot order, which I've done. But now when it accesses the DVD drive to read the DVD there, the computer simply stops responding. There's a flashing cursor in the upper left corner of the screen.
purchased a Compaq 6735s notebook. It came with Vista installed, but he wanted XP as that is what he is familiar with. Also wanted to have Vista to become familiar with that os. I partitioned the drive changed the SATA setting to IDE in CMOS and installed XP Home on the drive. On reboot it now defaults to XP but doesn't recognize the Network Controlller and several other "unknown devices" Of course I am unableto connect to the internet to download new drivers etc. So my questions are: What information is necessary to diagnose this problem? Where can I find that? (and) How can I choose between OS's at startup and avoid device compatibility issues?
If I buy the windows 7 upgrade (only $49!) do I have to upgrade my vista or can i keep vista and have windows 7 at the same time in a dual-boot situation? Does anyone know if this is allowed?
My dell laptop is dell inspiron 14R with preinstalled windows 8.I want to install ubuntu 10.04 side by side. I switch to legacy boot option too.But could not install it through disk since during partition table creation, it is not showing any os that is preinstalled.Its imp for me to install ubuntu.
Hp envy 6 sleekbook 6z 1100  I have already disable the secure boot in the BIOS  But I still cannot install the ubuntu 13.04  The installation was good and smooth  But after reboot, there is no boot menu appear for me to choose which OS I want to boot  I wonder if HP locked something......... or should I turn on Legacy support in the BIOS? But ubuntu 13.04 should support EFL BIOS  I need Ubuntu for work!
I got my W540 recently with windows 8.1 pro on it. but as all engineers worst nightmare windows 8 has hard time with engineering softwares (for my case TIA Portal for PLC programming software which only support windows 7). so i need to have a windows 7. i prefer to keep my windows 8 and have dual boot system with windows 7 added. But i can't install windows 7. initially due to disk type (GPT), then i changed it to MBR without losing my files (which only was possible if i had deleted the recovery partition- now my recovery is on my flash drive). But there are already 4 partitions on the system (1 for C: drive and 3 for recovery and system files which came originally with the product) , how can i install a windows 7? i can't add another partition because that makes my disk a Dynamic disk. i really need windows 7 on my system ASAP.Â
I own a Dell Inspiron N7110, i7 processor, 4GB of RAM with a Nvidia Geforce 525 optimus/intel integrated GPU. I need to install a Linux distro (preferrably ubuntu or debian) and dual-boot windows7. Is it possible?

I formatted my XPS M1530 using this guide (How to: Step-by-step guide for installing Windows XP on XPS M1530) and everything worked perfect.
But when I rebooted, I realised that the computer booted directly to XP and didn't let me choose between XP and 7. Normal, I thought, so I stuck in the W7 CD and selected the "repair" option. This did the trick very neatly, repairing the W7 install. The only problem was that now it will boot ONLY to W7 and I still have no selection screen for the OS.
I am trying to dual-boot Windows 7 on my XPS M1530 which is currently running Vista Ultimate - BUT I stumbled upon a problem. As I understand it, Vista will only allow you to have 4 partitions and magically I have 4 already.
I reformatted the laptop right after purchasing and no longer have the recovery drive. Here is what Vista says I have:
I burned two ISO files(Memtest86+ & latest DBAN 2.2.8 CD bootable ISO software ) onto two different blank CD-Rs on two different ocassions by using the in-built Windows burner in my system, also used Cyberlink ISO file burner/Mount as Virtual drive.
Tried booting from CD by following Step 1 to 4 given in this MS link . After that clicked Select a USB Device, then boot from Internal DVD/CD Drive, then OK. It took some time to process & after that I got this screen:  When I entered BIOS Setup clicking F10 and there on Boot Device options, I got this screen:
I'm not able to understand why I can't boot from any CD.
Me and my cousin cant convert it into gpt diskBecause i need to restore it into windows 8 again .Because of the 2,usb ports are not working but the 1 on the right side usb port is working. And the lock button on the mouse is not working either.My previous operating system is windows 7 ultimate sp1 64bit. But the available download drivers on hp.com is for windows 8 and windows 8.1(Hp pavilion G6-2270dx)
I partitioned my HD and installed Vista on e: drive. Vista worked fine, and I have the option to boot either XP32 or Vista 64. However, both OS can see C: and E:. Therefore when I do an install I have to make sure I don't install anything on C: when running Vista.
I had XP installed on my dell1640, but a pirate version. I had so many trouble with that software i went and bought a original xp software.
I messed the booot manger while deleting xp..so i did a full format of the machine and reinstalled vista...and then i partitioned the hard drive...so i can install XP...
now I instered the XP disc and and restarted my laptop and try booting i from the cd...it starts of fine.. and it gets to a point where it says Windows Will Start Setup or somthing along that line....and then the blue screen of death comes up and i have to restart....
I'm wanting to install XP on my Vista machine so I can play games better on it later on. What do I need to do other than get a copy of XP to make it work? Do I just install them both and then boot whatever one I like when the computer starts up?
I wanna dual boot Vista with XP. Will I have to reinstall Vista? Can the computer handle both in a dual boot? Also, what programs could I use for this?
I dont own a mac but and thinking about getting one and i have a few questions. first off im not a fan of OSX so i would like to use win7, so how much will it cost for me to dualboot (cost of dual boot program plus win7 plus any other software i need free or not free)? also i know you can get 5-6hours on OSX (so ive been told, correct me if im wrong) how long of a battery life would i get with win7?
At first I thought perhaps the backlight went on it, but since then i've noticed a few other issues.
When I power on the laptop everything lights up and I can hear the DVD drive and HDD startup normally. But I get no HP splash screen and the monitor doesn't seem to power on either. Which I'm guessing means it's not posting, cause I even plugged it into an external monitor and it doesn't even pickup anything and goes to sleep mode.
After about 10-15 seconds it looks like the laptop reboots itself and starts up the DVD and HDD again but nothing...it just loops.
Is there something wrong with the motherboard ? I checked the monitor for a loose connection and the laptop in general for any internal loose connections and everything seemed fine.
My guess is the motherboard went and maybe the backlight at the same time...I have no idea...
Note- Vista has ability to manage and shrink partitions->Start->right click 'Computer"->manage->Disk Management->click drive (C)->shrink volume If you have XP or need to partition a space bigger than Vista will allow, follow this walkthrough with MEPIS:
Step One

Step Two..
(requires DVD/CD burner -/+ R/RW) Burn it to CD/DVD as an ISO image Vista's Default burner does not include ISO imaging software, It can be downloaded here: 32-bit version 64-bit version
Step Three.. Boot from the CD drive, put Linux CD in drive and boot. It will run Simply MEPIS from the CD, but it will not install
Step Four.. Sign in as: root, password: root
Step Five.. Click on "Run QTParted"- that will open a box showing your partitions. The main Windows partition is usually /dev/hda1
Step Six.. Right click on your Windows partition, and choose RESIZE
Step Seven... In the box labeled FREE SIZE AFTER, type the size (in MB) that you want the new partition to be. That will create free space.
Step Eight.. Right click on the free space, click on create
Step Nine.. Select partition type (NTFS or FAT32), click OK
Step Ten.. Click on file(top left), then commit- changes will take effect
Step Eleven.. Click close, then click on the K in the lower left of screen and logout, restart computer Step Twelve..
remove CD and it will boot to windows, check your partitions. Insert Vista OS to install on new partition
Dell sent me a 1647 as a replacement for a faulty 1640 but they didnt install the bluray drive like my 1640 had, and now they said that they are not going to
I'm running a dual boot on my m1530 with Vista and XP. I used a link I found on these forums to find the XP drivers, put them on the disc, and install them that way. I tried to find the link again, but I cant.
Anyways, the problem is that when I close the laptop lid in XP (the problem does not occur in Vista) the screen goes black (maybe into hibernation?) and I have to hold the power button down to shut down the computer and restart it. I've tried fooling around with settings and that doesnt help.
Maybe it's a driver issue? Can some one lead me to the correct driver...or tell me what else may resolve the problem?
I Have a XPS M1530 with windows 7 and vista installed on the hard drive. My sound has stoped working and then it restarts randomly when playing a dvd or a video file on the system.
So i Phoned up Dell, and i tell them that i think the problem may be an hardware problem. As it happens on both of the operation systems, but plays fine through the headphone socket.
My XPS1530 came with Vista 32 Home Premium when I bought it, since then I have received a Vista 64 Home Premium disc from Dell (for free). Right now I am running the 64bit version of Vista on the laptop
