View 1 RepliesI own a HP Pavilion Laptop.
It says "HP Pavilion dv9000" on the screen frame, and says "HP Pavilion dv9700" and "dv9750ep" on the labels in the back. Guess it makes it a HP Pavilion dv9750ep?
It has 2 Hard Disks, each of 150GB; I believe it's 2 physical disks and not just partitions as in the device manager shows 2 ...

It came with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.
My issue is:
I'd like to try the beta of Windows 7, using the 2nd Hard Disk for that. I've been using it mainly for data backup, but as I have an external drive I guess I could make the 2nd dirsk free for trying Windows 7.
My reason for wanting to try Windows 7 is Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Some of my buddies tried it in Windows 7 and are reporting a noticeable performance increase.
When it comes to Laptops, and since this is my first one, I'm very reluctant to these moves - mainly because of the proprietary drivers... for instance, if I want to update my NVidia card drivers that must be made through HP and not through the regular channels - or so I think.
Questions:
Would it be possible to install Windows 7 on the 2nd Hard Disk and make it a Dual Boot system?
Would I have problems with HP-specific drivers?
I burned two ISO files(Memtest86+ & latest DBAN 2.2.8 CD bootable ISO software ) onto two different blank CD-Rs on two different ocassions by using the in-built Windows burner in my system, also used Cyberlink ISO file burner/Mount as Virtual drive.
Tried booting from CD by following Step 1 to 4 given in this MS link . After that clicked Select a USB Device, then boot from Internal DVD/CD Drive, then OK. It took some time to process & after that I got this screen:
When I entered BIOS Setup clicking F10 and there on Boot Device options, I got this screen:
I'm not able to understand why I can't boot from any CD.
Me and my cousin cant convert it into gpt diskBecause i need to restore it into windows 8 again .Because of the 2,usb ports are not working but the 1 on the right side usb port is working. And the lock button on the mouse is not working either. My previous operating system is windows 7 ultimate sp1 64bit. But the available download drivers on hp.com is for windows 8 and windows 8.1(Hp pavilion G6-2270dx)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv6-1107X Entertainment Series notebook. When I turn it on I get an inconsisent series of very loud short beeps nearly always in 3 groups. First group can be 4 to 6 beeps. Second group can be 1 or 2. Third group just goes on and on until the Windows Boot Manager pops up. Once I select the Vista operating system everything appears to start working as normal.
Here is what I have done:
1. Replaced motherboard and CPU
2. Checked and tested hard drive by diagnostic and in another machine - okay
3. Have used a known good hard drive in this machine - same symptoms, no change.
4. Checked and tested RAM stick in both slots, by diagnostic test and on another machine - okay
5. Did a Factory Default recovery - Operating System (OS) behaved erratically.
6. Did a Clean Install using another machine - OS works but same symptoms as above with beeps and Windows Boot Manager.
7. Installed all required drivers as required in Device Manager (after a LOT of problems trying to find the HP driver download support - I had to search for HP Compaq Pavilion dv6-1107AX to find a site that linked to the driver downloads).
8. Have run AVG anti virus, and 3 x anti spyware (Malwarebytes, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware). Nil bugs founds.
9. Reset BIOS to defaults.
Am also having problems from time to time access BIOS. It takes several attempts but can be gained by pressing F10 immediately after the first screen with ESC option on it. Also have problems access Safe Mode using F8 but perseverance is required and it will work eventually.
it would be pretty slick to be able to do that, i guess it isn't possible, but MAN they should get on that.
View 4 Replies View Relatedjust received my new E531 Edge Thinkpad from Lenovo.
Right now I'm not able to boot from CD, it will always boot into the preinstalled Windows 8.
I've tried the F12 method to select a different boot device during startup where I can see the installed DVD RAM drive and select it, but no effect it returns immediately to the select screen.
I've played around with the various BIOS setting disabling the secure boot option and changing the boot order so that the DVD drive is first. Then the system will check for the the CD (you can hear it spinning during start up) but will start into Windows 8 right afterwards again.
I checked with various bootable CDs as well as DVDs but always same effect.
What am I missing? Any other BIOS or Windows 8 settings I need to change for that.
I have other Lenovo notebooks running like the X230, the T520 or an older T61 where booting from CD never seems to be an issue.
As the DVD drive is working correctly within Windows 8 I assume that it is in general functioning and shouldn't be broken.
I have an acer laptop e1-571 with windows 8. the mb failed ordered a new one installed it. on boot now i get no bootable device. The bios shows the hard drive and its the first in the boot order. If i hit f12 after powering on to access boot options the 3rd choice is efi device windows boot manager. If i select that it boots normally and runs fine. is their a way to boot the machine without having to hit f12 every time and selecting efi device to boot to windows? i tried updating the bios as well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to diagnose a friends laptop.
At first I thought perhaps the backlight went on it, but since then i've noticed a few other issues.
When I power on the laptop everything lights up and I can hear the DVD drive and HDD startup normally. But I get no HP splash screen and the monitor doesn't seem to power on either. Which I'm guessing means it's not posting, cause I even plugged it into an external monitor and it doesn't even pickup anything and goes to sleep mode.
After about 10-15 seconds it looks like the laptop reboots itself and starts up the DVD and HDD again but nothing...it just loops.
Is there something wrong with the motherboard ? I checked the monitor for a loose connection and the laptop in general for any internal loose connections and everything seemed fine.
My guess is the motherboard went and maybe the backlight at the same time...I have no idea...
why my laptop don't show me the CD option in (F9) Boot Menu.
I have to reinstal my windows (8) and I really don't have time to find an USB (I don't have one anyway..), so I have to make it to boot the windows from CD. I don't really understand why it doesn't work, after all, it worked first time when I instaled windows 8.
I search online for solution, but i find only the USB solution. This is not a solution for me I need to instal it from CD.. What if I will format all my partition disk ('till local disk C will delete a part of windows and it will colapse...) -> then will probably boot from CD?..
Safe Boot it's disabled in BIOS (anyway, it don't let me to enable it). Legacy Boot, i tryed with it enable and disable, I didn't saw a chage.
The keyboard is usb and is put in the Main usb port that's connected to the motherbord,i wanna install windows 8.1 but i cant boot from Cd/Dvd cuz of that problem. Dont tell me to try another port i tried all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my HP dv2200 notebook since Vista came out and yes I've had problems with it, but I've never had this one.
Since two days ago, every time I boot up, my CPU is running at 100%. This is from a full start-up or even out of hibernation mode. After 10-15 it dies down to 5-15% but occasionally goes back up to 100% even when idle.
Besides going to the usual sites I go to, I didn't download anything or visit any sites I'm not used to going to. There was a Windows Update I had in my task bar for several days that I finally installed, but it didn't require a restart.
My anti-virus software is avast! free version (latest version w/ definitions updated).
Under task manager there are two svshost.exe's that jump around from 30 to 50, and Firefox is at 50 or so when I try to run it (which takes 30 seconds to open during the 100% cpu). And when the CPU does die down to 5-15% it says that 'System Idle Process' is jumping up to 95 which doesn't add up.
any specific reason to that...cuz i had a single core processor and it would start vista faster but this is c2d and still slower than that at startup.....

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have owned my new HP Pavilion 17 17-f114dx for only a month and it has worked great up to today. When I start it, it now takes slightly longer to boot up and log in. When I log in, I should see my desktop, but instead, I get a blank screen. I am able to see my cursor. I pressed control alt delete to see if anything looked abnormal and I am able to get to my task manager. Things looked fine to me. I am also able to right click a process and select "show location in folder" by doing this, it does bring up the folder. I can navigate to my internet browser from there, and still get online to post this, but my desktop is not there.
I have not installed any new hardware. The only software changes that I made were an installation of a game and I tried to update my version of Adobe Flash Player which was unsuccessful for some reason. I have tried doing a hard reset twice with no luck and also tried plugging it into my TV and nothing has worked.
Daughter's Pavilion dv6 Notebook will not always boot up beyond the HP screen if battery if fitted
Product number: WR498EA#ABUSerial number: [Personal Information Removed]
Operating system: Windows 7
Symptoms are that with a battery installed, the laptop does not always progress on start-up beyond the initial HP screen, which can be fuzzy at the top. A solution is then to remove the battery and restart on mains, which is fine, but not convenient to always only rely just on mains power. conducting battery test indicates requires calibration

I have HP pavilion dv7 which won't let me in BIOS to change boot order.
I have windows 8 32 bit installed and it keep booting normally no matter which key (Esc,F9,F10,F1,F2 etc) at start up, is pressed or keep pressed.. it wont stop booting and wont let me in BIOS. All it does it that if keys are pressed it will start beeping but then boot anyway.
I want to boot it from USB and install WIndows 8.1 64 bit.
I have an HP Pavilion 11-h013dx x2 pc running windows 8 and this weekend all of a sudden my computer shut down. When I restarted it I was given a blue screen which gave me the option to restore and refresh. I tried both options but the computer shut down when it got to 15% of restoring. Then when I turned on the computer it gives me a black screen saying boot device not found. I hit F10, enter, F9, enter, then exited and saved, that did nothing. I ran the hard disk check which passed. I ran the memory check and that failed with the code RQDATS-6T079C-MFPWWK-002103. I can't remember what other screen I was on when I got a different error code, but this one came up as well at some point and I wrote it down RQDATS-6T079B-MFPWWK-001H03.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Problem: Can't boot from second drive by default
I have an HP Pavillion dv7 1451NR, product number NV204UA#ABA.
I have two drives installed. I have Windows 7 64-bit installed on drive 0 and Ubuntu 32-bit installed on drive 1.
I can successfully boot either operating system by the following procedure:
Power up
Press escape-key to get to BIOS
Press F9-key to get to boot menu
Boot menu shows two drives named “Internal Hard Drive”
If I select the first entry named “Internal Hard Drive” I boot to Windows 7.
If I select the 2nd entry named “Internal Hard Drive” I boot to Ubuntu.
I power up if I do NOT press escape, the machine boots to Windows after the timeout. My Problem: I want to boot to Ubuntu by default.
I've checked the HP bios and I don't believe there is any way to do this by changing the boot priority in BIOS. The BIOS doesn't seem to differentiate between the two hard drives. I only has one entry for “Internal Hard Drive”.
I believe an approach that should work is:
Use bcdedit or easybcd to create a BCD record that points to GRUB.
Create a GRUB config file that “chain” loads Ubuntu.
Use bcdedit to move the GRUB entry as the default.
I've tried various permutations but can't get it to work.
How do I discover where the initial boot image is for GRUB?
2 year old DV7 will not start up it just continually beeps, there are no stuck keys, everything has been unplugged, there is nothing connected. i've tried esc, F8 and F12 nothing happens....

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that the dv6000 is one of the worst laptops but I still tried to repair it and got a new motherboard.
Initial problem: fried motherboard.
Got a refurb one off ebay now my issues is as following:
Press the on power button, fan spins for 2 seconds and computer remains on with no boot posting. Hard drive light is OFF and I can't hear the harddrive but I don't think it is the hd because I should still be able to access the bios and monitor should still light on. screen doesn't display anything. cd drive works and when I put a cd such as a windows disc you will hear it work for a couple minutes.
I tried everything from resetting the power cycle, removed the memory, harddrive, connected an external monitor, changed the little battery inside the motherboard. all power cables and ribbons are connected. keyboard won't respond though (fn light wont light on and ctrl alt delete produces nothing) ! I hate HP. after opening the computer I realzied what a piece of junk.
Today I tried to turn on my laptop but the power on light only blinked.
I have tried hard resetting it by taking out the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds.
The button power button, f12 key, and cd button keeps blinking unless i take the battery out.
The ac adapter is working and I think the battery is ok because the led is blinking while i have no ac connected.
