HP/Compaq :: HP Mini 2140 Resolution And 6 Cell Battery
Apr 5, 2009
On the HP site the 2140 is listed to have a higher resolution screen coming soon. Does anyone know when this is? I thought it was supposed to be sometime in February, then March and now the last I read was April 1 but it looks like it's still coming soon.
Also does anyone have the extended 6 cell battery? From pictures it looks like it sticks out at a 90 degree angle to the body. When I saw it I thought it was incredibly dumb. That seems like it would affect portability a lot.

I'm trying to figure out the difference between the two other than the casing (one's metal and one's plastic). The 2140 uses a SATA connector vs a PATA connector. So for $25 extra(lowest config 2140 vs highest config 1000) you get a metal case and SATA connector?
Why would anyone buy the 1000? Am I missing something? Oh and the 2140 has a higher volatage adapter for 'fast charging'...what's left for the 1000?

I am ready to buy the HP Mini 2140 (maybe the 6 cell too). Where can I buy this right now in Vancouver, Canada? I can't seem to find any major retail stores with these in stock.

Basically I'm interested to buy an HP Compaq 6730s and a Mini 2140 netbook.
What I'd like to know is if these things will play HD content?
I have a few Matroska encoded videos of which my PIV desktop refuses to play back smoothly. The sound and video are totally out of sync and on my Centrino based laptop I don't even get sound, all be it I am trying to stream these things off an NFS mount via 54Mbps wireless. I am guessing not enough bandwidth is my issue as the connection tops out at round 1.36MB/s x 8 gives round 11Mbps which minus the overhead on the half duplex wireless connection doesn't leave one with much even though the AP is a Cisco ISR based router!
Well that said I'd also like to know why the netbook, the Mini 2140 has not been released in HD guise in the UK? This is so weird that HP would release this everywhere around the world but here!
As a network and UNIX engineer I am generally consoled into things all the time, meaning SSH sessions and serial tty lines, and I am a bit concerned that the 1024x576 res of the Mini isn't going to be enough. Also for use with the odd video and lots of web stuff browsing/email. No no YouTube :-P
The thing is that the Mini would make a great compact tool in the field so I can take it around to different sites, connect up and use it for my purposes, as mentioned but also network sniffing and scanning to identify and debug faults.
On top of that I would like to know finally about the heat dissipated by these machines.
How much or little it is?? In the past I have had 2 Acer Ferrari laptops and a Hi-Grade Notino 12" which all seem to overheat. Currently my laptop is running at 200 degrees F and although I haven't checked the vent of this system I did check one of the Ferraris and very little dust had collected in between the vent and fan area. That's why if these machines run cooler it would be great, baring in mind that they will be running Sun Solaris and Linux as a dual boot which usually tend to take up more cycles then MS and Apple based OS's.

One of the features that attracts me to the HP Mini 2140 is the availability of a 1366x768 display (rather than 1024x576, which is standard- on the 2140 and on almost every other netbook available). But the higher resolution display just shows (Coming Soon) when I click on the Specs for the Mini 2140....
when the high-resolution display will actually be available for ordering on it?

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000. When I purchased the laptop, I chose a 12 cell battery, and it has a sticker on it that states: Replace with 451864-001. My battery went bad, and I purchased a replacement at the HP Parts Store online. I specifically chose a 12 cell replacement, which brought up the same part number, i.e., 451864-001. However, when it came in the mail today, the battery looks like a 6 cell, as it's about 1/3 the size of the old 12 cell, despite my purchase receipt which states that I ordered a 12 cell and the packing slip which also states that HP shipped a 12 cell. The model number of the old battery is HSTNN-DB32, and the model number of the new battery is HSTNN-DB46. Unless they were able to shrink the 12 cell to make it resemble a 6 cell, I'm pretty sure I received a 6 cell, despite the notations in the purchase order and packing slip.
This is a long way of asking, is there a tool that I can install that will tell me how many cells are contained in the battery? The battery, itself, does not state how many cells it contains. If it is a 6 cell, as I suspect, HP will be getting it back.

Couple of questions:
1. Does the 9 cell PROTUDE out the back and is it thicker than the normal 6 cell?
Would love to see a photo comparing both if possible.
2. Practically, in terms of percentage, how much more run time? 50%? 60%?
3. How much more weight?

I have until Monday to return my AA1 to walmart. So far I do like it and find the netbook really useful. I'm debating whether to return it and spend 170 bucks more for the hp minii 2140. The AA1's keyboard IS a little cramped, but I can still type good on it.
As biased AA1 owners, what do you think and what made you choose the AA1 over others?

I have an XPS m1330 (T7500, 3 GB RAM, 8400M GS GPU) and had a bad 6-cell battery that wasn't holding charge.
Dell sent me a replacement, but they've sent me a 9-cell which I don't want b/c it's heavy, adds bulk and most importantly, the angle on the laptop REALLY hurts my wrists... but apparently they won't send out 6-cells as replacements anymore, just 9-cells.
I'm wondering if there's anything I can tell them to get them to send me a 6-cell without having to put my 9-cell on ebay or something .....

I'm looking to get the Studio 1555 and the only thing I'm not sure on right now is which battery to get.
Is it true that the 9 cell sticks out the bottom a little bit? I would just go for the 9 cell, but I use my current laptop on my lap a lot and I'm worried that if the battery sticks out the bottom it would be uncomfortable since the laptop would be resting on two points rather than the entire bottom

my gf and I went out and purchased the HP G60-126ca laptops to only return them a few days later due to their incredibly short battery life.
I took the serial number into work(I work at HP) and ran the serial number to find out that the 6-cell battery was 2200mAh which would equal about 1 hour 30 or so min.
Now I'm about to order a dell but looking at some other higher priced HP laptops I was wondering what the battery life on some of them can be? or if any of you have some of these notebooks.
I can't run them in the system because I need a serial number to get the battery information, or else I'd do this at work
Does anybody here have any of the following notebooks?
HP Pavilion dv5-1140us Entertainment Notebook PC
HP Pavilion dv5-1250us
HP Pavilion dv5-1159se Special Edition Notebook PC
I'm just wondering what the mAh is of these 6-cell battery's. (I work for desktop support so I don't have too much access to the detailed laptop information unles I have serial numbers)

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 for about 4 years almost. I have 512MB but am going to buy the 2GB ram from newegg because it is very slow.
I am also formating my laptop as well as my desktop. Most of the time i use my desktop but for my laptop i bought a charger that was CHEAP and i think it messed up my battery life a bit.
I just purchased a new charger from Dell and will throw away the bad charger i have.
My battery life in my 6000 is about 40 minutes. It used to be 2 hours and 30 minutes when i first got it. A few months ago it was actually 1 hour and 20 minutes. My neighbor has a e1505 and his battery lasts like 5 minutes now so all he does is use his charger.
I see on Ebay from reputable sellers that the 6 and 9 cell battery price is pretty close. 6 Cell is about 44 dollars and 9 Cell is about 48 dollars.
6 Cell one

i am having a hard time deciding my configuration for a inspiron 13"
i noticed that the Refurbished laptop have a Great price $609, 2.0 intel core 2 duo,4gb,320gb,6cell,Dell 1395 802.11G Wireless Mini Card.
For that price it seems to good to be truth, but i have no experience with refurbished laptop.
What is causing me confusion is, if i should go for a new laptop that has ,2.0ghz(same cpu), 3gb,250gb,intel next gen wireless N, 9 cell battery
for $779, all because the $10 for the wireless and 70$ for the battery
and it has a 195$ discount already of the original price.

My year old 12-cell HP extended battery for my dv6870 is draining really fast. In 10 minutes it went from 100% down to 70% and all I am doing is browsing. Is the battery shot or is there anything I can do to save it?
UPDATE: From 100% to 7% in 25 minutes. It used to last 2-3 hours!

The DV5T is one of two notebooks that I'm considering and I have a question related to the heat while gaming. Many have recommended a cooling pad, and many also suggest simply raising the notebook .5-1" in the back. With the natural lift of the 12 cell battery, would the cooling pad still be necessary for long gaming runs? I don't want to pay the extra $20 for the 12 cell only for minimal cooling gains and still needing to buy a cooling pad. Or is it cooling pads are highly recommending for all laptops when gaming?

I am buying a dv5t off ebay but none of the laptops on there come wit the high capacity 6 cell battery offered on HP's website. Is there any place I can buy one? I've tried ebay but it doesn't appear there are any on there.
Also, model number or serialnumber for the high capacity 6 cell so I can check online for it that way.

I have 2 extra high capacity 6-cells (compatible with dv4, dv5, and several other compaq models) that i don't need because hp will be sending me my replacement dv7 soon and they dont fit. i want to sell them but i don't even know what a good asking price would be(hp does not even sell them individually on their website). they've been sitting in my fridge for the last month and have hardly ever been used, one of them i believe is still 100% capacity.

to prolonging my 6-cell high capacity battery that just came with my dv4t? My previous laptop which was a Sony Vaio(purchased new in Jun of 08) had a battery life of two hours. In December of 08, it all of a sudden only was able to last 50 minutes, and this became a huge problem. Are there any tips for prolonging a battery's full life as much as possible?

I've been looking at the 12 cell battery to go along with my dv5t for the extra battery life. I know that the 12 cells battery raises the back part of the dv5t up quite some bit. Would that negate or 'contradict' the use of the colling fan (Zalman NC1000). Since the battery pack is elevate, the full laptop wouldn't be able to make contact with the cooling fan, correct?

i have a generic battery being used in a G60-249WM laptop and any time the laptop is left and placed somewhere else while on, such as a table or desk, the battery i believe may be losing contact, as the computer just shuts off. what repair can i do, so that my 12 cell battery will work ? oddly, the genuine 6 cell fits and doesn't cause a poweroff when moved.
there is slight wiggleability with the generic 12 cell. for small, but still.

Does anyone know if it's relatively easy to install your own SSD into a 2140...I like everything about it except the $575 charge for upgrading the drive to an 80GB SSD.
Having said that I don't need anywhere close to that much storage, even a 16GB would probably be enough for me and Newegg has them for

My sister wants to buy a netbook and likes the Mini 10. We both prefer to buy from the Dell Outlet (and I've got a coupon right now) and they've got quite a few of the regular Mini 10 units (not the 10v) in stock.
My instinct is to go for the higher resolution (1366x768) display vs. the standard-issue netbook WSVGA (1024x600) display. But I'm wondering if the 10.1" display is too small for the high resolution?
How do the two displays compare in terms of brightness, contrast and overall image quality?

I ordered my SXPS on 7/17..
it hasn't shipped yet, so I can probably still take advantage of the 9 cell free upgrade.
I am concerned though, about the size it adds to the laptop - i don't like the bulge much. But I just read elsewhere that the 9 cell fixes some heat issues with the laptop..is this true? And is the difference significant (heat-wise)? I'm reconsidering now..
