HP/Compaq :: When Will The 1366x768 Display Be Availabile On Mini 2140
Feb 7, 2009
One of the features that attracts me to the HP Mini 2140 is the availability of a 1366x768 display (rather than 1024x576, which is standard- on the 2140 and on almost every other netbook available). But the higher resolution display just shows (Coming Soon) when I click on the Specs for the Mini 2140....
when the high-resolution display will actually be available for ordering on it?
I'm trying to figure out the difference between the two other than the casing (one's metal and one's plastic). The 2140 uses a SATA connector vs a PATA connector. So for $25 extra(lowest config 2140 vs highest config 1000) you get a metal case and SATA connector?
Why would anyone buy the 1000? Am I missing something? Oh and the 2140 has a higher volatage adapter for 'fast charging'...what's left for the 1000?
I am ready to buy the HP Mini 2140 (maybe the 6 cell too). Where can I buy this right now in Vancouver, Canada? I can't seem to find any major retail stores with these in stock.
HP is about to release their new netbook which is successor of HP Mini 2133. It's called HP Mini 2140. On their website it say it will be available later this month. There is more info on their website: [url]
Basically I'm interested to buy an HP Compaq 6730s and a Mini 2140 netbook.
What I'd like to know is if these things will play HD content?
I have a few Matroska encoded videos of which my PIV desktop refuses to play back smoothly. The sound and video are totally out of sync and on my Centrino based laptop I don't even get sound, all be it I am trying to stream these things off an NFS mount via 54Mbps wireless. I am guessing not enough bandwidth is my issue as the connection tops out at round 1.36MB/s x 8 gives round 11Mbps which minus the overhead on the half duplex wireless connection doesn't leave one with much even though the AP is a Cisco ISR based router!
Well that said I'd also like to know why the netbook, the Mini 2140 has not been released in HD guise in the UK? This is so weird that HP would release this everywhere around the world but here!
As a network and UNIX engineer I am generally consoled into things all the time, meaning SSH sessions and serial tty lines, and I am a bit concerned that the 1024x576 res of the Mini isn't going to be enough. Also for use with the odd video and lots of web stuff browsing/email. No no YouTube :-P
The thing is that the Mini would make a great compact tool in the field so I can take it around to different sites, connect up and use it for my purposes, as mentioned but also network sniffing and scanning to identify and debug faults.
On top of that I would like to know finally about the heat dissipated by these machines.
How much or little it is?? In the past I have had 2 Acer Ferrari laptops and a Hi-Grade Notino 12" which all seem to overheat. Currently my laptop is running at 200 degrees F and although I haven't checked the vent of this system I did check one of the Ferraris and very little dust had collected in between the vent and fan area. That's why if these machines run cooler it would be great, baring in mind that they will be running Sun Solaris and Linux as a dual boot which usually tend to take up more cycles then MS and Apple based OS's.
On the HP site the 2140 is listed to have a higher resolution screen coming soon. Does anyone know when this is? I thought it was supposed to be sometime in February, then March and now the last I read was April 1 but it looks like it's still coming soon.
Also does anyone have the extended 6 cell battery? From pictures it looks like it sticks out at a 90 degree angle to the body. When I saw it I thought it was incredibly dumb. That seems like it would affect portability a lot.
I have until Monday to return my AA1 to walmart. So far I do like it and find the netbook really useful. I'm debating whether to return it and spend 170 bucks more for the hp minii 2140. The AA1's keyboard IS a little cramped, but I can still type good on it.
As biased AA1 owners, what do you think and what made you choose the AA1 over others?
A few weeks ago I cracked my glossy 1366x768 display on my Envy DV6 7227SA (product number C4V06EA#ABU). I have found a replacement online (part number 682089-001) but I was wondering if I could replace it with a matte 1920x1080 display (Part number 682090-001). I'm running Windows 8 64 bit  EDIT: This is the part I currently have in my notebook (broken) - [URL] ....  And this is what I'm wanting to replace it with - [URL] .....
My sister wants to buy a netbook and likes the Mini 10. We both prefer to buy from the Dell Outlet (and I've got a coupon right now) and they've got quite a few of the regular Mini 10 units (not the 10v) in stock.
My instinct is to go for the higher resolution (1366x768) display vs. the standard-issue netbook WSVGA (1024x600) display. But I'm wondering if the 10.1" display is too small for the high resolution?
How do the two displays compare in terms of brightness, contrast and overall image quality?
Does anyone know if it's relatively easy to install your own SSD into a 2140...I like everything about it except the $575 charge for upgrading the drive to an 80GB SSD.
Having said that I don't need anywhere close to that much storage, even a 16GB would probably be enough for me and Newegg has them for
dell, lenovo all use 1366x768 resolution screens which are perfect 16:9 widescreen. I personally find them much more visually appealing than a 16:10 screen. Why does hp stick with 1280x800 which is 16:10??
HDX16t and I'm having issues deciding between different models.
The difference in the screen resolution would cost me around $100. I would never really use the 1920x1200 for gaming, but it would come in handy while doing homework with multiple windows.
I currently have a DV9500 and a DV5. The DV9500's 1440x900 is excellent for me and I would see no reason to go above that resolution. However, the DV5's 1280x800 is just too small for me (almost even for internet browsing). It just doesn't seem like the 1366x768 would be much different. So for those who have the lower res HDX16t model, would you upgrade to the larger resolution if you had the chance or are you happy with your current setup?
The extreme glare of HP's Infinity displays and lesser glare of glossy screens in general has a cure: antiglare films, which also provide scratch protection. I found a very comprehensive review of the options here:
Screen Protector Shootout Results
Photodon LCD protector sheets were highly rated, and since Photodon is in my home state of Michigan I ordered from them. I went with a larger than normal custom cut for my HP dv4z's Infinity display, figuring (correctly) that I'd want the film to be a little larger than the LCD panel since there's no bezel. I got the width right, 310mm, but I guessed low on the height. 194mm should be about right. Being mechanically disinclined I did a poor job applying the film but it still looks good. Some pics:

Everything works great with the adapter except for one thing. Once I wake the Macbook up from sleep, the TV doesn't detect it and stays "asleep". I would have to unplug and replug the wire. I've also notice that sometimes my TV would be full screen, sometimes it would have a black bar on the left and right side.
As an experiment I just installed WIN8 on my HP210 Mini. It seems to work just fine, except for the apps. WIN warns me that they cannot run because they require a resolution of 1060*768 wheras the original driver for the HP210 only supports up to 1060*600. Â Question: is there a way to cope with this problem and get the apps working?
At university, there are projectors which are used when doing a demo or presenting our software. I wanted to know if the mini display port to vga converter works flawlessly with projectors.
I'm trying to hook my aluminum macbook up with my TV. I've gotten all the wires but it isn't working, is there something I have to do on my Macbook? Something to press?
I bought a miniDisplay Port to HDMI and 3 HDMI Cables and a HDMI splitter from seller mambate on eBay. Surprisingly it was all really good quality, the audio works well, I wish I had a surround sound system to test it on but I use optical audio for HT. So my Hanns G 28 Monitor is really the only thing I could test it on, and it works.
The Splitter comes wit a remote too which I thought was cool.
This is my MBP13 and he Hanns G
Funny side note, the MBP quicktime plays better 1080p vids on the HannsG dont know why. either way plex is the best program for videos.
I have a 13.3" MBP and a HP LP3065 monitor. At times, I would like to use the monitor for more real estate. I know there is the Apple mini display port to dual-link dvi adapter. Are there any other options that I will be able to use my monitor at 2560x1600 resolution with the MBP?
The reviews for the apple adapter suck and basically all of them have flickering issues. I would hate to buy it, return it, and waste my time on something I know that has a great chance of failure.
I also have Logitech Z-5500 speakers that I would like to use with my Macbook. Would a toslink to mini-toslink cable work?
I use Hp dv2700 laptop (windows vista). My laptop display got split into 6 mini screens after I recover it. Please see the jpeg image: [URL] ..... I did try to update the Bios but it's not success.
HP Mini 210-1000 ... Actually it's HP Mini 210-1060EV PC   From product specifications: Display: 25.6 cm (10.1") Diagonal WSVGA LED HP BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display BID (1024 x 600)  Battery has been dead a long time. My display drivers  and BIOS have recently been updated from HP website. After a power failure and a restart, the display looks weird. It was shifted about an inch downwards with a black border at the top, over which the mouse will not go, and the taskbar is not visible as is off the bottom of the screen.  When I go to Screen Resolution from Windows by right clicking on desktop resolution is set as 1024x768, when I click on Advanced Settings, Monitor tab,  Monitor is set as Generic Non-PnP Monitor (1024x768 60Hz). When I change to 1024x600 it looks blurry and stretched vertically, but the screen is still shifted downwards with black border on top. When I enter Intel Graphics Settings I can do the same changes as in the Windows dialog box (640x480, 800x600,1024x600,1024x768). Â
In the Aspect Ratio Options when I select Fullscreen (No-Border) the  Black border is fixed but the screen still appears streched vertically but the screen is cut off at the bottom with no Taskbar visible. Re-installed graphics driver as well as a few Monitor Type Drivers from windows, nothing changes. When I turn the notebook on, the HP Quickweb screen also appears as a 1024x600 stretched vertically with no black border at top but going off the display at the bottom.  It appears that  Windows and Hp Quickweb see the display as 1024x768 60Hz after the power failure. Before that, I had installed some Windows Updates but nothing related to Display drivers. I only had a System Restore point from earlier that day (very low free hard drive space?) but that didnt do anything.  Guessing it's a registry/driver problem since no pixels are bad and the black border on top is fixed in Aspect Ratio Options when I select Fullscreen (No-Border).
