View 4 RepliesOn the HP site the 2140 is listed to have a higher resolution screen coming soon. Does anyone know when this is? I thought it was supposed to be sometime in February, then March and now the last I read was April 1 but it looks like it's still coming soon.
Also does anyone have the extended 6 cell battery? From pictures it looks like it sticks out at a 90 degree angle to the body. When I saw it I thought it was incredibly dumb. That seems like it would affect portability a lot.
I'm thinking of purchasing a 15" MBP and am debating between the standard screen and the high resolution screen. I had a studio xps 16 with the 1080p screen and though it looked great so I would ideally like to get the high resolution screen. However, I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on the readability of the screen, is text readable? Does Mac OS contain a feature like Win 7 where you can increase the text size? I really liked the look and extra space higher resolution screens offer but did notice on the studio xps that without increasing the text size text (which it did by default) text and menus were too small. What are your opinions on the macbook's high resolution screen, which do you prefer?

Having said that I don't need anywhere close to that much storage, even a 16GB would probably be enough for me and Newegg has them for
Dell says the 8700 is an upgrade, but I'm seeing lower framerates across the board. Is there any resource / testting / review that would prove that at 1600x1200 and up the 8700 just doesn't have the nuts to push the pixels like the 7950?

View 10 Replies View RelatedBasically I'm interested to buy an HP Compaq 6730s and a Mini 2140 netbook.
What I'd like to know is if these things will play HD content?
I have a few Matroska encoded videos of which my PIV desktop refuses to play back smoothly. The sound and video are totally out of sync and on my Centrino based laptop I don't even get sound, all be it I am trying to stream these things off an NFS mount via 54Mbps wireless. I am guessing not enough bandwidth is my issue as the connection tops out at round 1.36MB/s x 8 gives round 11Mbps which minus the overhead on the half duplex wireless connection doesn't leave one with much even though the AP is a Cisco ISR based router!
Well that said I'd also like to know why the netbook, the Mini 2140 has not been released in HD guise in the UK? This is so weird that HP would release this everywhere around the world but here!
As a network and UNIX engineer I am generally consoled into things all the time, meaning SSH sessions and serial tty lines, and I am a bit concerned that the 1024x576 res of the Mini isn't going to be enough. Also for use with the odd video and lots of web stuff browsing/email. No no YouTube :-P
The thing is that the Mini would make a great compact tool in the field so I can take it around to different sites, connect up and use it for my purposes, as mentioned but also network sniffing and scanning to identify and debug faults.
On top of that I would like to know finally about the heat dissipated by these machines.
How much or little it is?? In the past I have had 2 Acer Ferrari laptops and a Hi-Grade Notino 12" which all seem to overheat. Currently my laptop is running at 200 degrees F and although I haven't checked the vent of this system I did check one of the Ferraris and very little dust had collected in between the vent and fan area. That's why if these machines run cooler it would be great, baring in mind that they will be running Sun Solaris and Linux as a dual boot which usually tend to take up more cycles then MS and Apple based OS's.
One of the features that attracts me to the HP Mini 2140 is the availability of a 1366x768 display (rather than 1024x576, which is standard- on the 2140 and on almost every other netbook available). But the higher resolution display just shows (Coming Soon) when I click on the Specs for the Mini 2140....
when the high-resolution display will actually be available for ordering on it?
Update your Chrome browser to Version 37.0.2062.94 m and above ... It works fantastic with the Y2P and the text is so sharp now for high res laptops running Windows ...
I've just updated mine 15 minutes ago, haven't come across any bugs or usability issue.
Touching on the screen when typing still does bring up the OnScreen Keyboard ...
Oh well ... At least the text is much sharper now compared to the previous versions of browsers ... I have a Y2P (i5) ...
Does Microsoft Office take advantage of Ultra High Def or QHD screen resolution? Or, do you have to downgrade resoution to 1080p.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out the difference between the two other than the casing (one's metal and one's plastic). The 2140 uses a SATA connector vs a PATA connector. So for $25 extra(lowest config 2140 vs highest config 1000) you get a metal case and SATA connector?
Why would anyone buy the 1000? Am I missing something? Oh and the 2140 has a higher volatage adapter for 'fast charging'...what's left for the 1000?
I have until Monday to return my AA1 to walmart. So far I do like it and find the netbook really useful. I'm debating whether to return it and spend 170 bucks more for the hp minii 2140. The AA1's keyboard IS a little cramped, but I can still type good on it.
As biased AA1 owners, what do you think and what made you choose the AA1 over others?
My TV's native resolution is 1366 x 768. My VAIO FW-190 has Intel Chipset and both the Windows built in software and Intel provided graphic card settings software do not show the 1366x768 resolution. I can't find a way to set the Vaio's HDMI output to that resolution.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI currently own a dv5-1235dx. The native resolution for this laptop is 1280x800. However, when I connect the HDMI cable to my laptop, the maximum resolution my display settings will allow is 1024x768. This makes it look awful on the TV, stretching a 4:3 display across a 16:9 screen.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I have had a few hp laptops now. My G60-125NR is the hottest one I have. I ran speed fan just to see if it would work on it, it came up with a high temp of 95+*C and a low of 57*C. Is this normal? The temp is at 80*C while I'm typing this right now. Its on a hard table, with clean vents...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having an issue with my laptop and it's the fans not going high or fast. I don't know when this started happening but the odd thing is that the fans are not broken because when I boot it up I can hear and feel the fans going fast but as soon as the screen gets to the Windows Loading Screen the fans go back down to normal or slow speed, which is normal but when I'm playing my games I expect it to speed up so it can cool down my laptop, nope instead at 97 Celsius it's still the same speed and doesn't even bother trying lol. This is getting quite annoying because I need a fan sitting on the ground pointing up at my laptop just to keep it cool so it doesn't just turn off on me now I'm debating weather I should take it to my local Future Shop seeing as how I still have it under there 2 year warranty but I kind of look at that option as my last resort till I can be sure I can't fix it.
If any of this information helps heres what I'm running:

1.90 GHz AMD Athlon X2 64 Dual Core Processor
256 MB of Video RAM (Taken from the 2GB of ram)
Running Windows 7

I am using dv6570er for about year already, the problem is in core?acpi?gpu temperature; while typing this post speedfan shows temp1(acpi?)71*C; core0&core1 71*C; GPU 61*C.
About an hour ago i disassembled him, cleaned motherboard, fan etc... then assembled, i was really happy when see speedfan showing 51*C but this doesn't last too long when i switched power plan (was "power economy") in mobility center to "High performance" temp scaled to 60*C same when changed to "Balanced" (before disassembly notebook i was getting 90*C in three seconds after swithching to Balanced/High perfomance plan and 65*C in power economy). When i bought this laptop he was showing only 35*C, what can be the reason of so high temperature?
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (preinstalled with HP tools etc updated to sp2)

View 10 Replies View RelatedAlright, so to start off I'll just say that I love the DV2. I bought the dual core version loaded when it first went up for customization at the HP site. I have, however, noticed that it can run a tad hot.
When I first got it, without a cooler, the CPUs usually went from between 41c-45c from light usage, and the GPU from between 51c-55c. Even when propping the back up I only saw a drop of 1c total. I bought a small cooler for it and saw a fairly good drop. The temps of the CPU where down to 36c-39c and the gpu was down to 45c-49c with both sometimes even going lower depending on how much the AC in the house was on.
I did try some gaming on this, playing some HL2. The CPU got to 60c at the highest and the GPU also only got to about 60c while on the cooling pad.
So, a few days ago I updated my BIOS to the latest on for the DV2 from the HP site. I noticed right away that my temps where higher. The temps while on my cooler where the same as they used to be without it, and with the cooler off the GPU was getting up to 60c while at idle. I tried a few things, like setting the GPU to low power mode with the Catalyst controls, but that didn't help.
Not sure what to do I noticed this morning that I hadn't gotten SP2 for Vista yet. So I decided to get it in hopes that it would help.. now my DV2 is even hotter. On the cooling pad my CPU was at around 60c and GPU was at 65c while at idle. I've had it on all day, with all the vents in my room open and the AC up high and the lowest it's gotten is to 50c for the CPU and 55 for the GPU.
Im looking into a laptop I should choose.Which resolution is better 1440x900 or 1600x900 and what is a good size screen?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI get an almost constant high-pitched noise coming from what sounds like the left side of the Envy15. The sound is probably in the 16khz range, probably goes undetected by a lot people but I always pick up on it. I've noticed the sound is interupted when I scroll a webpage so I thought it was crappy power regulation for the display or something. However, when same effect is there when using an external monitor and the laptop lid closed.

model details
there are couple of temperature issues with this lappy ( ambient temp 25-30C):
1. at idle ( just media player or maybe a pdf file open), the cpu temp is at 43C, northbridge always above 50, gpu always above 55.hd also tends to operate at 45-48C. this is inspite of the fact that i am running this thing with no vents blocked ..and in fact the RAM, cmos battery and hd covers removed to allow better air circulation.
2. at normal load ( game like burnout paradise, with utor going on in background), cpu tends to reach 60 C, gpu at 80 C , northbridge at 70C and hd at 60 C.
3. cpu temp never seem to change really. tried using various s/w' like realtemp ( shows 28 C for gpu..which i dont think is feasible). only when i reboot after a high load session, the s/w' show higher temperatures ( and the notebook shows erratic behavior with display artifacts!).
4. the only fan in the machine never appears to speed up or down. i don't have an issue with the noise, as long as it helps this thing run cooler.......
I downloaded CPUID and ran it to see what it would report for GPU temp. It's running between 80 and 84 degrees C. My notebook is sitting on a cooling pad I bought a few months ago; it has two small fans, powered by USB. I don't the cooling pad helps much, only a slight benefit. CPU temps (two cores) usually run in low 50's, fluctuating from high 40's to about 57, as notebook fan kicks on and off. The notebook fan does not run excessively, in my opinion; it usually only needs to run a few seconds before it stops and the frequency of it kicking on is not too high, I believe. Actually, with the high temp reading for GPU, I'm surprised the main fan does not run more often and for longer durations. Again, the cooling pad makes little difference in frequency and duration of main fan.
The GPU in this notebook PC is nVidia GeForce Go 6100. I bought this computer is July 2007. I've never checked GPU temp before. The video driver was updated at least once since I've owned it. I could roll back the video driver and see whether that would make any difference. Or, I could update to a later version; Windows Updates has been showing a video driver as an optional update for quite some time but I have not installed it. Or, should I visit nVidia's website and search for a driver update.......
I've got a 1080p screen on my Envy 15, and I'd like to be able to play some games at 1366x768, but I cannot switch to that resolution by default. Does anyone know how to set a custom resolution of 1366x768?
