View 3 RepliesI live in the northeast. Unexpectedly we got a snow storm and I left my laptop in my backpack in my car for 6 hours. I didn't realize how cold it was going to get. I got laptop just now and it won't boot. It reaches the HP screen, the hard drive looks at as if its going to boot and after about 3 light flashes, everything stops working.
I press F10 to get in bios, it doesn't go in, it just hangs. I press ESC to get to the start up menu, same thing.
What did I damage here? My hard drive, motherboard?
I have important files here I need for my accounting classes until the semester ends.
I removed the battery to just use my plug in outlet to see if battery was damaged, same thing occurs.
Trying to load XP on to the above mentioned machine. Getting BSOD within minutes of inserting the XP disc while drivers are still loading. Read through a huge thread on here about XP drivers but the seem to be talking about wanting to downgrade from Vista to XP.
Anyone know the procedure to dual boot instead of just downgrading?
I'm trying to boot from legacy boot from my new dell 7000 series. however when i change from uefi to legacy i have no boot option. the whole boot list is empty.
i have called dell and the support desk told me dell has no support for legacy :S that means no windows 7 on my dell or any other os that uses non uefi...... i think the bios is corrupt is the whole list is simply missing.
due to virus infections in my hdx 18 i hav formated my c drive.while the recovery drive is intack as it is in the d drive.i was didnt create my recovery discs as well.now during boot time when i press f11.it doesnt boot to the recovery drive in the HDD.it says no partition table found, i think i may hav deleted the mbr during format
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got this laptop a few days ago, I currently have 7 and XP installed on it and kind of have vista...(read further down).
My 7 seemed to break today after playing around with a program called powerstrip trying to get my external monitor to show the right resolution (I've realised now the cable vga was broke, but meh) but this is not the full problem, after windows 7 failed to boot I tried to boot xp after turning it off during the windows 7 splash screen and now im stuck with a dash when I turn the laptop on (I dont know if its actully related to something I've done or not).
If I turn the laptop on a flashing dash comes on in the top right, it then stops flashing and turns into a none flashing dash further up the screen and just locks here and I cant do anything at all other than trying to restart it. When I had this problem previously (at least I think this problem) on my desktop it usualy turned out to be something usb related but I have everything unplugged (all though the bluetooth adapter light is on when it is doing this) so I realy dont know what to do...............
My Ideapoad P500 is approximately 16 months old (so the warranty period is out, obviously!) A couple of nights after a reboot I got the message "Repairing Hard Disk errors. This could take an hour or longer."... or something very similar. The laptop hung up at that message for more than 18 hours.
Â
I did a hard reboot and now get the message "Checking media" followed by the error "Boot failed." This leads to the message, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed."No I don't have any recovery media.Yes I have pretty recent backups so that is not a problem.I've got an enclosure that I can use to hook my laptop hard drive up to so I can see if the drive is even readable.
Â
Now here is the 64 thousand dollar question... how do I get the hard drive out of the laptop? I have taken the five screws out of the back. At that point, I think the DVD drive should slide out, but it does not.how to get the hard drive out?
I have a y500 Lenovo gaming laptop with Windows 8, and for the past couple of days, each time my laptop is put in hibernation or powered down, whenever I turn it back on it gives me this message:
"Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed Insert recovery media and hit any key Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device to boot or recovery media."
Then it brings me to a page with 3 boot options, and only the Windows Boot Manager works. I'm doing scans and hardware scans but so far nothing is being found. This laptop is less than 2 months old so I really don't think it's a hardware problem, and I haven't downloaded anything recently that may have messed this up. I would contact Lenovo but I'm unsure if this is an issue with the laptop, or Windows 8.
I have a Acer E1 522-3657 computer, which my son set-up for me but did not make the recovery disc(s). The unit is just outside of the warranty period when the hard drive failed. The hard drive just makes a clicking noise and after the logo screen appears it goes to a blue screen with a box that has the following message with in, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert recovery Media and Hit any key.....Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.
Â
I have installed a brand-new Western Digital 1T Sata3 harddrive to replace the Toshia 750 GB original Drive. After turning the computer on and at the logo screen I press and hold F2, this takes me to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Screen. I see under the "Information" menu that the installed harddrive model and serial number appear. I see in the "Boot" menu, Boot Mode: "UEFI" and Secure Boot: "Enabled".
Â
Under the "Exit" menu, Exit Saving Changes is highlighted. When I press F10 a "setup Configuration" box appears asking to save configuration changes and exit now? "Yes" is highlighted to which I hit Enter and are returned to the "Default Boot Device.......page. I then hit ecs twice and are at a black screen with the message No bootable device -- Please Restart system_appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. I then push and hold the power button until the computer shuts off.
Â
I have ordered from acer the "Acer E-recovery Media Disc Set", which is specific to the SNID of my computer. I have not attempted to format the new hard drive in any way. Â I assume the E-recovery Media Disc Set will handle that operation due to the multiple partitions required.
Â
In view of the above situation, do I need to set up the computer in any way before I start to utilize the E-recovery Media Disc set. I assume the Media will be on CD's. The computer was running Win 8.0 which was updated to Win 8.1 and was running very well, very stable.
Where is Boot from USB option in UEFI boot device list in Inspiron 17r SE?
Mine only shows Network in UEFI boot list?
Acer V5, spilled coffee on keyboard. no problem at first, then lockup, and on restart get the No Boot Device or Boot Failed. Am using my old laptop now. Can I get a download, save it to thumb drive, and use it to restart/reboot my Acer?
View 2 Replies View Relatedit would be pretty slick to be able to do that, i guess it isn't possible, but MAN they should get on that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI get the error in the Title after i tried to flash the latest BIOS update for the Z510. I can press ok and then get into the boot manager but i cant choose anything there. Also I cant boot from a Disk with e.g. XP on it.
Â
I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).
Everyone: Absolutely cannot boot from CD-DVD even if I turn OFF Secure Boot and UEFI and my machine lists my CD-DVD as a boot option. When I then try to boot from the CD-DVD, I get an error message. (Optiplex 7010 Mini-Tower with Win 8 Pro 64-bit, an Intel i5 3470 processor, 8 GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive. It has BIOS version A16 right now.)
I started a thread on this issue in Desktop Hardware Forum - [URL]...
just received my new E531 Edge Thinkpad from Lenovo.
Â
Right now I'm not able to boot from CD, it will always boot into the preinstalled Windows 8.
Â
I've tried the F12 method to select a different boot device during startup where I can see the installed DVD RAM drive and select it, but no effect it returns immediately to the select screen.
Â
I've played around with the various BIOS setting disabling the secure boot option and changing the boot order so that the DVD drive is first. Then the system will check for the the CD (you can hear it spinning during start up) but will start into Windows 8 right afterwards again.
Â
I checked with various bootable CDs as well as DVDs but always same effect.
Â
What am I missing? Any other BIOS or Windows 8 settings I need to change for that.
Â
I have other Lenovo notebooks running like the X230, the T520 or an older T61 where booting from CD never seems to be an issue.
Â
As the DVD drive is working correctly within Windows 8 I assume that it is in general functioning and shouldn't be broken.
I ran the diagnostics test as instructed prev and all passed. I then loaded BIOS defaults as instructed and saw "2nd boot priority hard drive"Â What does this mean and can I fix?

View 8 Replies View RelatedHP gave me a dv5 as a replacement for a zd7000 laptop that quit.
Now the dv5 has quit. It won't boot. It gets to the HP Logo screen and freezes. It never makes it to the BIOS screen.
I chatted online with HP support. After performing a few tests (the fan runs, etc) they concluded its a hardware problem. They want $400 to fix it.
The unit is 16 months old. It has seen VERY light usage.
I've sent an email to the people who handled the replacement of my zd7000.
How in the heck do you make this dang thing boot off the CD-ROM?
It keeps wanting to load the operating system, regardless if the Windows XP cd is in there or not. I've tried pressing F12, F10, F1. Changing the boot options to load the "Multibay" first then the hard disk. It even pops up asking me what I want to boot from; multibay or hard disk. Choosing the multibay does nothing, it still loads the operating system regardless.
How do I make it boot the CD-ROM? I just need to get Windows XP Pro reinstalled on this thing.
I have a HP Pavilion DV5-1235dx(model) that I bought 1 year ago.
And 1 week ago its got out of order! Broked! Don't BOOT! I don't know why, but I tryed a lot of ways to do it! But doesn't work!
I have a medium knowlege of computers, but other people said me that can be the Motherboard! Really? I think that maybe the problem is other...
I'll explain what I did to try fix it.° I'd took out the HD, and tryed turn it on in SATA/USB adapter. But my Desktop doesn't Recognized the Removable Disk! (The adapter is working I tested with other HD) ºI'd tryed boot without HD. ºI'd tryed to put other HD with Ubuntu that I have working.ºI'd tryed boot with WinCD (XP/VISTA/7). Didn't work either. My BIOS lists the CD-ROM Drive but didn't anyone of HDs that I installed then.
The START is ever the same. Doesn't matter what I do, the "HP Start BOOT Screen" load, enter in a black screen and doesn't load the OS.
got a Presario V2000 that will not boot whatsoever.
Upon pressing the power button, the machine starts up and displays the standard "Windows could not start properly" screen. Every option I choose, from the three Safe mode options, to the Last Known Good Config, to Start Windows Normally will not work.
I choose an option and everything goes smoothly, the Windows XP splash screen pops up & stays there for a few seconds, then goes blanks for a slightly longer length of time before a blue screen pops up. I can't remember the first few numbers, but the rest I'm pretty sure is accurate:
(a series of letters/numbers is here) (Registry File Failure)
The registry cannot load the file
SysCommandSysCom32ConfigSOFTware
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, (something I cant remember), or not writable
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical assistance.
.....and it pretty much repeats over and over in a continuous cycle like this until I power it off.
What I'm wondering is where exactly the problem lies? On the Hard Drive--where the drive itself needs to be replaced or the OS just wiped and reinstalled fresh.......or is this indicative of a hardware failure...which would mean this lappy is pretty much dead?
I have a compaq nc6230 that was working fine over the years and suddenly when the power button is pressed, the unit powers on and displays the HP splash screen for about 30 seconds, then I get a Non system disk or disk error. The unit then shuts off its self.
I have swapped known working RAM and Hard drive with same results.
Also, when I enter in setup the hard drive diagnostic option is grayed out ( with or without hard drive installed ).
HP Compaq 6735s
I had some Malware and ran Avast to remove it. Once I was done with that I decided just to back some things up,and do a clean install.
I chose to boot from Optionla bay, I assume that is the CD/DVD drive, then put the XP disk in but nothing. It tries to boot and goes to the black screen with choices, like start in safe mode and a few others, none of them work.
I hit "esc" to just boot from HDD like normal and it still will not boot.
owner of DV5T 1009TX, i have a singular 320GB WD on this system, with dual boot enabled (WIN 7 and VHP) thing is i would like to triple boot this systm with an instant on OS (i know presto but it's a paid subscription and sadly does not allow me to access NAS/ battery profiles) so i was thinking of (and do have) a 8GB SSD 34 express slot flash drive (which has a USB 2.0 bus on te motherboard) to install a third OS Ubuntu
can't do any of the termainal , scripts based stuff
but i would need to know how it won't bother the MBR shared by M$ OS
i have the CD from cannonical featuring the latest 9.04 distribution of ubuntu
My HP DV2310ca laptop wont boot. I've had this problem before. When I had my warranty, I took it back to the store where I purchased it and they told me that it was a simple problem where the HD was not connecting properly to the board, so they simply reconnected the HD back to the board and it started working again.
Yesterday while in class, I had that problem again. I opened up the HD case and reconnected the HP back to the board but the laptop still wont boot up. I screwed the HD back into the casing and made sure everything was nice and firm, but it still wont boot.
Another question I have is that the BIOS screen is not coming up either. Even though my HD might not be detected correctly, shouldnt the BIOS screen at least come up when I boot the laptop?
I have an HP xt125 laptop that has a bad hard drive. I installed a new hard drive, but found that someone previously had monkeyed around with the cd drive, when i try to boot all I get is cruching and grinding. I installed a drive from a Toshiba laptop which is marked M/S (master/slave), where the original is marked CSEL(cable select). The bios won't recognize it and tries to boot from the hard drive. I have also tried a brand new DVD/RW drive (liteon DS-8A1p) with the same result. If I put the original cd drive in it tries to boot, but the drive is too damaged to spin the disc up to speed. I can't find any settings in the BIOS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy daughter has a Compaq Presario 2100. She said she got a virus! I don't think she did. But the problem is it will boot and not run! I ran a test for Hard Drive and it didn't show one. I also tried to repair from disk, it said it didn't have a hard drive. Disk is the reinstall XP. Is this a virus? I think it is hard drive gone bad.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using my laptop normally when suddently it began to freeze. No blue screen, no reboot, just freeze under Win7.
I did hard reboot to Win XP, same problem. And I re-tried to reboot under Ubuntu, same problem, freeze...
So, I tried a memtest because at this moment I was expected a ram problem, but nothing, 3 pass OK, no error.
BUT after that, next reboot, even no Bios...
Black screen, no bip, JUST the hdd led blinking in red.
So I tried to change the hdd (by a one I'm absolutly sure it works)
Same problem.
I tried to boot on a cd as well, it doesn't work.
What the meaning of red blinking on hdd led? (Normally this led is always white)
Someone knows the errors codes of the HP hdx 18t?
I'm supected a cpu or motherboard failure.
Well my HP dv6000 is still acting up.
Sometimes the laptop will not fully start/load. Meaning it never fully reaches the point when you can surf the net.
When it is not fully functional my mouse will not work when I click on IE or even the start button it can't activate them. It moves but does not activate any icons.
So I'll have to manually shut the lap top down by pushing the power button.
Next time it boots, It may not get to the point where the wireless is not up and running so I can't get IE to run it seems to fall short on booting to that point.
Then I have to hold the power button down to get it to reboot and start again.
Most all the time on the third reboot everything will work fine and run normally.
Time to reinstall my recovery discs and start clean ?
