HP/Compaq :: Still Doing It- 23 Times To Boot Up Properly
Jun 19, 2009
Well my HP dv6000 is still acting up.
Sometimes the laptop will not fully start/load. Meaning it never fully reaches the point when you can surf the net.
When it is not fully functional my mouse will not work when I click on IE or even the start button it can't activate them. It moves but does not activate any icons.
So I'll have to manually shut the lap top down by pushing the power button.
Next time it boots, It may not get to the point where the wireless is not up and running so I can't get IE to run it seems to fall short on booting to that point.
Then I have to hold the power button down to get it to reboot and start again.
Most all the time on the third reboot everything will work fine and run normally.
Time to reinstall my recovery discs and start clean ?
I just got a few parts replaced on my M1730. After about an hour of it working perfect, the computer froze and crashed. After that,
I could not boot up properly -I couldn't even boot into safe mode.
I have wiped the computer, and I'm still having issues. Sometimes it freezes on the Windows 7 bootup screen, sometimes it freezes on the password screen.
Sometimes it lets me use it for 10-15 minutes before freezing. However, it keeps freezing. No bluescreen, nothing. Just completely frozen. I have *NEVER* had freezing issues before.
I bought Hp Pavilion dv6 about 11 months ago. When I tried to turn it on today morning, it didnt boot and Caps Lock light is blinking 3 times.I searched on internet and found out that its a memory problem.
I'm having a problem with my IdeaPad Z585 laptop. When I boot it, it clicks exactly 16 times before it goes to a black screen. It does the same thing when I attempt a restart, but it will eventually restart normally after 10 attempts.
I am having some real issues with a Latitude E5420. It will sometimes boot no problem, maybe 40% of the time.
Most of the time it goes to the dell splash screen and the bar goes to the top then i get a blank screen. No blinking cursor or anything. No HD activity, no CD drive activity.
I can press F2 and get in to the bios, i can press F12 and get to the boot menu but even after selecting a boot option from the boot menu i will still get a blank screen most of the time.
Once the Laptop boots up it runs fine and doesn't report any errors. A memory test has shown no errors. I have replaces the CMOS battery, which was a bit of a nightmare, i have replaced/swapped the memory modules.
I just purchased a refurbished Thinkpad Yoga, and all was great for a little while. Then I decided to shut it down and set it aside for a few minutes.
Current Status: System responds in no way other than the 'i' light (in the Thinkpad logo) blinking three times when the charger is connected, or the same when the reset button is pressed while the charger is still connected. Nothing else illicits any sort of beep, light, or otherwise.
I have a acer 1414 notebook, when i plug it in and try to get it to post the battery light blinks orange around 8 times, and then stops. i get no beeps, other other lights,.
My Dell Inspiron M501R will no longer boot up - its shows a black screen and repeatedly beeps 7 times. I understand this means the mother board has failed. The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> - its waranty has recently expired.
Interestingly, if you google "Inspiron M501R" google suggests "Inspiron M501R 7 beeps". So I'm guessing this laptop has been designed to fail soon after the waranty expires.
I have written a letter to BBC Watchdog asking how long a laptop can be "expected" to last and whether this would be covered by the UK Sale of Goods Act.
Now that the new Sony Z is out, I think it would meaningful to get a sense of the boot time for this system under various scenarios.
If people could post the boot times of their Z with this information:
- Whether you're calculating the boot with all the bloatware untouched (factory settings), with the $50 Sony Fresh Start (which still has a couple unnecessary programs), a Clean Install, or a Manual Uninstall of all programs.
- And the size of your SSD or HDD. If it is an SSD, it would be nice to know if you can tell us have many SSDs are in the RAID 0 configuration as that affects the speed.
I think this would be very helpful not just for direct comparison, but as another factor to consider in whether to do a clean install, which takes more tech-savvy than some may have.
My brother has got an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop. When he tries to start the laptop he gets a blue screen with the error message contained in the attached file. When I try restarting and pressing F8 to enter Safe Mode it just continues to this screen.
It started happening after HP requested that he download some new software to his machine. He did so and this problem started. It was a popup on the screen which asked him to install new software.
I have a HP dv6-1133ea (in my sig). It has the broadcom wireless card. It is running windows 7 64 bit.
Just recently the wireless has started acting up. It can see my home network fine but just won't connect properly saying "no network connectivity" etc. I know that the network is fine as my partner's vaio (and incidentally my old Toshiba A30 that I am using to write this post) can connect fine.
I have tried re-installing the vista 64 driver from HP's website but that makes no difference. Turning the wireless on and off or restarting also doesn't change things. I have also tried re-adding the network key but that did nothing too.
Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas what to do?
I've had this HDX since January, and have had nothing but problems whenever i tried to burn a dvd or cd.
The version of Nero i had isnt compatible with Vista, and im not getting the new one, so it took me forever to find some free soft. I've tried Astroburner, CDburnerXP, and Infrarecorder.
Astroburner: Constantly locks up, sometimes cant even see my drive, and if i CAN get it to burn something, it never completes it. it just sits there.
CDburnerXP: Is not compatible with my drive at all, it doesnt see it.
Infrarecorder: has given me the best results, i've burnt a few data CD's, that went smoothly. But today, i wanted to burn a DVD data disc with a whole bunch of AVI's, it spun up the disc, and then just sat there at 0%, disc spinning for 1 hour. Drive was locked, program locked, couldnt end task, NOTHING.
I had to hold the power button down to get it to stop.
so my compaq presario cq57 running windows 7 has had this problem where when every i try to reboot it, it powers down the screen but the power button light is still on and a couple other lights too. then it just stays like that and it doesnt turn off or on unless i hold the power button. everything is up to date as well.
Got a new HP battery for my laptop and it failed the battery test from the HP Advisory program. It telling me one of the cell is not working and that I should replace it.
Did I get a defective battery or I didn't charge it properly?
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-417SA Notebook PC operating on Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop freezes at random times, sometimes minutes into use or an hour into use. It is not caused by clicking a certain program or file. I suspect freeze issue maybe caused by hardware failure, possibly the HDD.
Here's a few observations of the laptop and the things I've tried to diagnose or fix it. During a typical hang the HDD LED light is constantly lit. Have also had both blue screen and black screen freeze. No error messages. Hard drive gets very hot. Entered BIOS and run both Primary Hard Disk Self-Test and Memory Test using InsydeH20 Setup Utility but it passed both.Laptop has been fully reset to factory settings so it can't be because of high CPU usage.
While idle the CPU usage is usually in the range of 13%-25%, with a rare spike of 53%The hard drive is a Western digital Scorpio Black 2.5" 320GB SATA. The laptop is unused so wiping it back to original settings wasn't an issue but I would like to get it back to a useable standard.
due to virus infections in my hdx 18 i hav formated my c drive.while the recovery drive is intack as it is in the d drive.i was didnt create my recovery discs as well.now during boot time when i press f11.it doesnt boot to the recovery drive in the HDD.it says no partition table found, i think i may hav deleted the mbr during format
I'm trying to boot from legacy boot from my new dell 7000 series. however when i change from uefi to legacy i have no boot option. the whole boot list is empty.
i have called dell and the support desk told me dell has no support for legacy :S that means no windows 7 on my dell or any other os that uses non uefi...... i think the bios is corrupt is the whole list is simply missing.
To start off, here is some background information. I've had the xps m1530 since June/July of last year and haven't had too many problems, except the one I am currently having.
The laptop was working fine this morning, but sometime around 2:00pm, it stopped working propely. The internet at my house is retarded and goes on the fritz every so often,
so I restarted the laptop in hopes that it would help (I didn't think it would, but I wanted to try something). Well, when it was coming back on, it suddenly stopped working.
It came to the screen where you type in your password, and when I entered it, it said "Welcome" for like 5 minutes. It just sat there on the login page with "Welcome" as if it were loading, and then after about 5 minutes it went to the desktop.
It sat here for 5 minutes or so and wouldn't allow me to do anything. I couldn't click any icons, or go to the program bar, or do ctrl-alt-delete or anything. It was frozen, but I could still move my mouse around.
After attaching my Sansui receiver to my new e6410 i noticed that Skype causes to audio to stop; switch to the internal speakers for an alert message and then switch back to the external speakers
I have a 17" MBP 2.16 Ghz. I'm having problems with the Lid latching properly. I think my issue is that the magnet on the Right Latch is not strong enough. The hook on the left swings down from the magnet o the right, but the hook on the left does not. It will swing out if I put a magnet close to it.
I used a nail file and can feel magnetic pull over where both magnets should be. I just think the left one is a little too week. This causes only one hook to engage the latch.
Does anyone have pix of these magnets?
Can you purchase them somewhere?
Is there room there to put in a stronger magnet?
If there are any threads out there that show how to repair this, I would love to see it. I've been searching for hours and can't find a thread addressing the magnet issue.
The other thing this does is make it appear the LCD is warped because only one latch grabs, but really the display may not be warped, it just looks like it is because it is only being held by one Latch.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and for some reason, on the Pavilion g7-2320dx, and I have both a USB keyboard and mouse.the only port that the keyboard/mouse works in is the one by the charger (I think it is usb 3).Before I downgraded, I used the USB ports on the left for the Mouse, and the one on the right for the Keyboard.I know there has to be a driver for it somewhere.
