View 9 RepliesI have a dv5t with an extra mini-pci-express slot open. if anyone's tried this 64gb SSD and used it to run Windows XP or Vista?

It's 149, but I think it's worth the price. I'll have the 64gb for the OS and applications, while the installed hard drive (500gb) will be used for all my personal data.
I'm currently looking at SSDs and found those neat mini PCIe SSDs.
Seeing that my HP 2710p has got a second mini PCIe slot, I'm wondering whether I'd be able to plug in such a SSD.
I have a spare PCI-e slot in my dv2700 (originally for evdo card) and I was wondering if its possible to get a mini-pcie ssd (like from a dell mini) and boot from that.
I am aware there won't be much speed increase, perhaps even a decrease but might be nice to be able to just use the hdd as secondary.
i'm a heavy 3G data user and I've made a mistake buying a 2530p without WWAN.
Can anyone tell other WWAN card supported besides UN2400 (FN556AA) ?
The Antenna, SIM Slot and Mini PCIE slot already there...
I'm thinking about picking up a usb wireless n adapter; which means I won't be needing the internal wireless nic. Since that's a mini PCIe slot, I was wondering if anyone has tried replacing that with one of the many SSDs floating around the web...
2 main questions I have about those:
If they're mini-pciE, why are there sata versions and pata versions out there? There's no sata or pata connector on these cards it seems, the pci-e connector is all there is. Do they somehow use the sata/pata controller on the motherboard via the pci-e bus?
2nd question; would there be any way to boot from one of these? The bios has a bunch of options for booting up, network, usb, usb floppy, etc... but none for mini pci-e or anything like that...
Laptop is a presario C500, more precisely c551nr, broadcom 802.11b/g nic, 80gb toshiba 5400rpm slow ..... hard drive, and a celery 440 running the show..
dv2000 second mini-pciE connector (next to hdd/bios battery/flash)
Has anyone tried to mod the MINI2 solder point (next to hdd/bios battery/flash)
like the ones done for the Asus EEE pc?
It says "MINI2"
If I wanted to put a mini-pcie SATA SSD in the WWAN slot of my dell latitude D820 and *boot* from it what should i buy?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI finally convinced my employer to spring for a new Precision M4500. In order to do so,
I had to pare the price down to around $2k, which I did by opting out of the 64GB SSD MiniCard. I figured I could always install it later.
It's later.
Just found this and was wondering if it can be used in a regular minipcie slot. With every connector of course.
Or something like letting the X-FI chip doing all the work , processing etc. and lead the output through existing onboard audio.

There is a REAL X-Fi chip on board not those lower end ones used in usb and pcmcia solutions.
just received a Dell 5530 WWAN Mobile Broadband HSDPA KM266 PCIe mini-card which bought from a vendor on ebay today
Owning an XPS M1330, it took a little trial & error finding compatible drivers and the appropriate SW, but I managed it by feeding Dell's website with various Notebook models in order to get to said drivers & SW.
The SW (Ericsson) came from the Dell Mini 9 section (because the ebay vendor told me that's where he got the card in the first place):
Title : Communications:Dell Wireless 5530 HSPA Mini-Card Application

I have aspire ethos 5951g with a 750G HDD and this laptop have a one empty mini PCIe slot and i want to mini PCIe storage for system  installing  .......
Â
May I use this slot to add mini PCIe SSD ?
Â
And if i may what is the type recommended for this model ?
my question is about the empty mini-pcie slot inside the 5102wlmi. I plugged in a sprint novatel e725 wwan card, but windows doesn't detect anything. Is there a modded bios that detects it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was wondering how far out an installed SD/SDHC card sticks out of the slot on the Mini 9? It seems a common thing for people to buy a big, fast card and leave it in there for permanent additional storage. I've got one on order thanks to all the fun with the Dell Outlet this week (missed the 15% off deal but managed to score a 512/16GB with no OS (have spare XP Pro, Vista, and Ubuntu I'm going to try) for only $329).
I ordered a 2GB stick of G.Skill 4-4-4-12 from Newegg but haven't yet picked up an SD card - I had one in my fiancée's e1505 but in her taking it places it apparently got knocked out, but since that was just for ReadyBoost, no big deal. However if I have an 8GB+ SDHC card in my Mini 9 I don't want it disappearing for obvious reasons.
I have a dv5t without the TV tuner, leaving the open PCIe slot. Can I use a mini PCIe SSD in this slot, and if so, can I boot from it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of building a new del on the website, is has really been sometime since I did this and there seems to be alot of new technology that i am not familier with...
the first one is the graphics card.. i have 4 options...
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD With Express Card
Mobile Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD with PC-Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With Express Card
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M, 256MB With PC-Card
i would assume that the following cards have different perfomances, but what is the difference between a Express card and a PC card... and what is the better one to have?
And what card would be better for some gaming.. "i am a command and conquer addict"...
I'm trying to figure out the difference between the two other than the casing (one's metal and one's plastic). The 2140 uses a SATA connector vs a PATA connector. So for $25 extra(lowest config 2140 vs highest config 1000) you get a metal case and SATA connector?
Why would anyone buy the 1000? Am I missing something? Oh and the 2140 has a higher volatage adapter for 'fast charging'...what's left for the 1000?
I see theres a lot of hype over some vendors removing the Stereo Mix Recording option from their sound cards.
So Im wondering if current Hp models (Such as but not limited to the HDX 16t) have also implemented this new restrictive and annoying feature?
HP approved wireless cards in their computers, due to a whitelist in the BIOS. Is that problem still here today? Reason why I'm asking is because I might want a EliteBook 8730w that comes refurb with no wireless. I was thinking the card from my nx9420 should do the trick.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was just experimenting with some drivers and found something interesting. Default Hight Definition drivers from microsoft deliver an absolute clean an uncolored sound.
Yes, IDT drivers somehow modify the equalization providing more bass, even when natural bass is disabled in the control panel. I can assure you this because I'm running my sound with studio monitors.
has anyone tried putting a SSD in the PCIe slot designated for the WWAN in the M1330? Something like this one:[url] ...specifications
And then having a normal hard drive in the 2.5" HDD area for storage or games and stuff. Hopefully they will make these PCIe SSDs much faster and cheaper.
Will the Dell Latitude D830 have any trouble supporting an Intel WiFi Link 5300 WLAN card?
I know its a generation newer than my laptop but the interface is the same so it should work without any issues, right?
Im basically looking for a wireless g stable, low power, wlan card that will work with this laptop and think the wifi link 5300 may fit the bill.
HP 2000z-400, S/N: [edited], P/N: A1L49AV. Clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64BIT.
ALL Windows Updates done.
Go to: Device Manage. See: "Other Devices"/PCI device = not installed.
Go to HP site for this model/download and install ALL software available for this machine. No change.
Thought WebCam software would do it.
I have a windows 8.1 64 bit HP Pavilion G7 2270us. I have had nothing but trouble with the Bluetooth since the 8.1 update. I used to be able to reinstall the driver and get it working again, however lately nothing works. I have installed sp59632, 58515, 64041, 58944, and 64825 and none are working. My computer does not even show the option to turn the bluetooth on from the pc settings menu. I am adding some pictures to show you what my computer shows in device management and troubleshooter to see .....

I've been looking at the Mini 311 on Amazon, which is selling for $399. I'm going to send my (slow!) dv2 to my daughter for a spare laptop as soon as the Windows 7 upgrade arrives (which won't be real soon from what I'm reading!! ) Amazon says their Mini 311 has the Ion LE graphics. On the HP website though, they are selling the same system for the same price - but it doesn't have the "LE" qualifier listed. Do the newer direct-from-HP editions have the "full" Ion - or is this just an oversight by HP on their website?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know that this has the new ION chip, but how far will that go? Like what kind of games will that let you play. I know that this is far from a gaming machine but do you think it would be able to play like d2 and tf2 on low setting pretty well?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to get the HP Mini 110, but am curious as to how long the battery actually lasts, and if anyone has the 6-cell battery, how long does that last as well?
I've looked at a few netbooks already, including dell/toshiba/asus/acer, but I've fallen in love with the HP keyboard and want to go that route.
Also, i know the N270 and N280 processors are 'almost' identical, does the battery life differ on either?
I've been thinking about getting a netbook for a long time now, ever since the firsts Asus EEE was released. I was so sure to get the Sony Vaio P but now after seeing how sleek this machine is (and cheap!) I just can't get it off my mind. @_@
Here's an unboxing vid I found - [url]
The 5101 seems to have just about everything I was looking for in a netbook. It is currently available for $399. Is that a good price or are there discounts (student, etc) that would drop the price even further?
Also, is there any reason to wait? Some new hardware about to be released? Or is Windows 7 going to be worth the wait for a netbook?
